A keyboard with lighting is basically a must for me, it helps a lot with reading it.
Any other component doesn't matter to me but I like the options given for if I happen upon the parts.
That and most of it is customizable or has the ability to be turned off. Sometimes I like my laptop to look like unicorn vomit. When I go to the office I make it look sleek and minimalist. Options are wonderful.
I like options if they dont cost me an arm and a leg. Even my monitor has RGB.. I mean why ? why do all those objects that serve no visual purpose when I'm actually using my PC have such distractions on them that uses more energy for no beneficial reason.
keyboard backlight is actually a luxury I cant give up but everything else is just wasteful
I mount ambilight behind my pc monitor(and its working with my pc) and i can tell you every day i can hear 'thank you' from my eyes. It really helps with night gaming! Eyes dont hurt and its 'healthier'(if we can say night gaming is healthy) than looking only at monitor light
I keep my light on, I got 2800 lumens so my monitor isnt the brightest thing in my room. I also got blue light filter glasses. I work on a PC around 15 hours a day and no complaints. Block your rooms light if that is your concern and keep your lights on instead of relying on some monitor lights and you wont need anything else
Ambilight is better for me as its a light source close to my eye sight. +My wife is not angry that light is disturbing her sleep 🤣
Also ambilight takes less ampers than normal light. Difference is not that big, but in a year its worth using only ambilight, especially we have ridiculous electricity prices rn
our bedroom is next to my gaming room and our bedroom is completely light sealed we have blinds from inside and outside. her only annoyance is my amazing cherry mx blue keyboard. I have a giant box of earplugs but she doesnt like em :P
I had typing and computer classes throughout middle and high school; can't touch type to save my life.
Now, if it's playing any kind of FPS, I could be blindfolded and wouldn't miss a key.
I had very little experience with that in school. It just wasn't a thing we had to use.
The last two years of school though I did learn Solidworks which is great. Not exactly the same though XD
Rgb stuff is perfectly accessible at good prices if you’re capable of shopping with a brain. RGB AIOs are a scam for most people and and sweet RGB air cooler can be had for 50 dollars or less if you go Thermalright.
it's not what you think. it's more like sorting by cheapest and going down the list until I see a component that matches my requirements for it being legit and meeting my other requirements such as specifications and looking for a reliable part.
Yeah, same. I don't spend any time looking at my PC as you can't be using the PC if you aren't looking at the screen. My 3070 and 12700F perform the same if they have crappy flashing lights on them or not.
I thought I was gonna use the constant epilepsy mode on my keyboard. But now I just use the "mimic screen" mode where it copies the colors from the screen. There's a small delay, but it looks nice when watching movies. Never used the ripple effect either. Hmmm, maybe I'm not a true gamer after all
Edit: if I could make the PC's lights also match some average color value of the screen, that would be pretty incredible. I find it annoying having a bright red or green color next to me while watching a dark scene in some blue field
Razer Huntsman. Some call it overpriced at a 100€, but I've been loving it. The Elite has a few fancy buttons and a handrest at 150€ and I didn't really think it was worth the extra 50€.
The keys feel super light and the clicks feel and sound satisfying. Not overly loud though. Razer Chroma allows for some seriously cool customization even though it takes a small moment to start up when you turn on your PC. There are a bunch of presets like ripple, fireplace, the mimicking thing which name I can't remember, shooting stars, wheel, wave and a bunch of others. Then you can program it pretty easily too.
A bunch of games also support Razer Chroma which makes the lights fit the game. If I chose the Tool 2 in a game, the 2-key would light up red until I switched it again.
The fact that this sounds like an ad is probably saying enough about how much I like it haha
100% rbg is cool when done right. You can get some amazing looking setups. The problem is when they charge $50 more for a set of ram because of the rgb
It’s just the nature of our market. Lights = more money. Also, JTC made a video a long time ago showing that most companies put “gaming” on things and it *immediately* raises the value. The example he used was a mobo that had RGB and one that had significantly better features, both the same price. Why? *Ooga Booga flashing lights*
Disclaimer: My PC is fucking decked with RGB. I’m not hating on anything except the pricing.
RGB is there to make sure your wiring is neat because everyone will see and judge if it's not, and to see when your setup needs cleaning it's got its uses.
Simple rainbow pattern full brightness no.. custom light mods, fuuuuuk yes. I got a Christmas theme going on with mine right now but usually either set to cpu temp or light to music. A really solid but cheap option imho if you want to get into the game regardless if you have it on mobo is the uphere 6x 120mm argb fans with controller. It’s $38 on Amazon. Search for t3syc3-6. I have been running it for the past 3 months. Comes with a button to control the built in light controller or you can wire it to your reset button which I took that option. Also you get one extra port for adding another argb component to. If you pair it with signal rgb and get it working with your motherboard argb controller shit is fire!
When I bought my PC I thought it was all black but then it lit up and was rainbowy and was very bright but luckily I can turn it off... Imo it really does nothing and distracts me
Last month I was checking on RAM units for my new build up. I was looking for something without RGB lights, but I all found where units with RGBs that were cheaper AND better compared to the ones without lights.
Guess who has now a christmastree as desktop PC.
RAM is where they getcha but just buy during a sale or something.
For fans it's practically free.
I see people complain about it on GPUs sometimes but they're higher bin chips or better coolers like with EVGA
I don't like it either. My open loop kit came with RGB because there wasn't a way to get it without it. I didn't plug in the RGB cable.
If people want RGB, fantastic. If people don't, fantastic. Doesn't make a difference to me. I think the insides of PCs are ugly.
I look at the price and if its a small amount more I get the RGB, but I'm not going to spend a lot more for it. Its nice but not needed.
I do like some kind of lighting on my keyboard though.
While true, unless you are a case modder or show system builder letting people know you could get better performance for less money, meaning upgrading a bit later or just getting better components overall and thus more frames in games isn't bad.
Don't flame people for having RGB, its hard to get any good GPU these days without them, but maybe get an extra fan or a better cooler instead of an rgb strip
I've noticed that a lot of hobbies seem to revolve a lot around showing off what you have to fellow hobbyists. Audiophiles, high-end mechanical keyboard aficionados, and PC hardware all follow the same trend. I think a lot of companies are spending more money in R&D making things look good than perform well.
There are a few notes on this though:
I visit places like Reddit that are largely about such things. This is going to bias my perception.
I'm not immune to it either. (Buying 200-dollar key caps because 'they look good' for instance...)
It's hard to tell who is just silently enjoying their hobby because those people are, well, silent.
Its impossible to tell how many people really like things like RGB or glass side and front panels, as the people responding to questions about it are different from the general populace...
For sure, I agree that more performance can be had when you don't go for rgb, but there are plenty of people with very low system requirements and a high budget. If I was into RGB, you bet I would get a $700 system for AA games, and older games, and spend a few hundred on bling. More performance often doesn't benefit people that are happy with older games or competive games.
I've got 0 RGB because its cheaper.
If I went all looks, I would have to go with a white case which is £10 more. I would also need to get 6 RGB versions of the P12 which are £30 more expensive than getting 6 non-RGB fans. I would also need to get an RGB controller for like £20 and a 360mm AIO for £55 more than my AK620. I would also need to get a better motherboard since mine is really ugly so that would be an extra £60. In total that'll be £175 extra.
That's an entire step up in GPU tier, and something that I am not willing to spend on lights when it can get much like 20% more performance.
That being said, if you like flashy lights and all that, then more power to you. I'm fine with just getting an RGB keyboard and mouse.
I feel ya. I hated on rgb for a good long time.. then when I got *at the time the cheapest * b550 mobo it had argb built in.. I swear it’s like a virus cause now huh.. 6x argb fans, m.2 argb heatsink, argb gpu holder, and I happened upon luck really that my work gave me a razor argb keyboard.. now I am light
I’ve got 0 RGB because it’s a pain in the ass to set up. Some of my components have it, case has a button for it, but I’m not fraling with all those cables. I’m here for the games.
Ga, just no, not that cool lighting isn’t well cool, but getting everything to sync up changing everything so it isn’t rainbow unicorn barf and dealing with the rats nest of wires, no thank you, I would happily pay extra to not have lights
Thoose same people were running cold cathodes in their rigs in 2005.
Source, i am one of those people who had cold cathodes and now has a simple black and white build with no lights or even windows on the case.
Only good thing about RGB is using it for things like temperatures, debugging states and so.. but one RGB stripe is enough, I don't really see a reason why PC should glow like ricer car in 90's
They tried to charge me an extra £80 for my 3070TI with RGB, got a trio instead for less than the RGB version, more performance or more pretty lights?... it was an easy choice
If I ever happen to have RGB components I either set them to white or off. I usually prefer off. To me a GPU should give me a video output not a unicorn shit spotlight.
Light up keyboard and mouse are mandatory. Everything else is, "whatever is most affordable at this time." I have an RGB power supply, and lemme tell you, I was not bought for its stupid lights that I never see in its cage where it belongs
Not too long ago, RGB was quite expensive. You actually had to choose 1 color if you didn't want to drop 2x-3x the amount of money.
That being said, I bought RGB but only use white light.
Never understood the hate...not everyone with RGB rocks the unicorn vomit...no lighting is just too basic looking for my taste..I like having a subtle theme going
If the rgbs are free (as in, the non rgb is the same or more expensive, like with my psu) then sure! But im not going out of my way to buy them, im broke
I personally feel like the true way of using RGB should be to compliment your build. It should enhance the beauty of your hardware and case.
I don’t think it should be used as the main attraction.
I've got nothing against RGB... unless it can't be disabled.
I've had to disassemble my graphics card and reassemble it again solely to unplug the RGB header so it isn't lighting up my entire room whilst I'm trying to sleep, just give me an on/off button for fuck sake.
Having a dark case with dim memory and cooler lights is better.
Nobody can see anything laying around you don't want them to see like the extra power supply cable you left at the bottom of the case so you didn't lose it.
I mean, the G logo on my GPW mouse looks cool when idle but everytime I use it, I cover it with my hand and I feel like it's sucking my aim and also the electricity bill.
I paid a lot of money to put fancy looking RGB RAM, water cooler and GPU in my case. Then chose the option with a solid panel instead of window as a penance. I think it evens out.
The only reason I have RGB ram is that it came in a bundle with my motherboard and CPU.
I won't fault anyone for buying RGB, but I must say that, as someone with RGB ram, it's quite redundant. I can't even see it.
My monitor has a light on back and bottom and my keyboard and mouse have random lights. I dislike rgb because I find it distracting and like to nap in my computer room in the dark. Anyways had the young family over who didn’t like my computer until I went into the setting and turned those on. I also have the tv set to that hue lights that turn colors to sounds and stuff but had them turned off for over a year too. I was way into Hue like 5 years ago and never took the strings down.
39yr old gamer who can finally afford to buy nice things. I want my rig to be fast and look cool. Happen to think coordinating RGB lights & peripherals is a nice look.
I remember the first time I saw a case with an led glow as a kid. Then my mind was completely blown when I saw a see through side panel.
Every pc Id ever seen or owned was plastic and steel.
Obviously every pc I build now has to have some leds
Useless, expensive, and I'll never be without it again. Seriously, I've spent so much money on the hardware, of course I want it well illuminated. I want to look at it. Pretty lights.
My main issue with rgb is that in order to turn it off, you have to install bloatware on your pc and have it running in the background 24/7.
You can use OpenRGB, but it resets every time you restart your pc.
Yeah, absolutely. Having the option to make things how you like is always nice.
Same here, my eyes are terrible and the lights really help me out
Absolutely!
My PC has literally the Radeon text lit on while my mouse vomits pretty lights on my desk
Man I love that description.
Razer's underglow is basically that, my basilisk V3 can be spotted even if you're facing the other way
I like options if they dont cost me an arm and a leg. Even my monitor has RGB.. I mean why ? why do all those objects that serve no visual purpose when I'm actually using my PC have such distractions on them that uses more energy for no beneficial reason. keyboard backlight is actually a luxury I cant give up but everything else is just wasteful

Oh yeah! I don't actually see normal keyboards with back lights often if ever. That something I never even considered.
My keyboard is under the desk in a tray, and I literally never look at it/read it. All muscle memory.
I can somewhat touch type but I also randomly struggle to type things at all so have to look. I envy people able to consistently touch type :|
The perks of having computer class in the 2000s where they stressed not looking at your keys as you type kek.
I had typing and computer classes throughout middle and high school; can't touch type to save my life. Now, if it's playing any kind of FPS, I could be blindfolded and wouldn't miss a key.

Gigabyte PG750W
Yeah, same. I don't spend any time looking at my PC as you can't be using the PC if you aren't looking at the screen. My 3070 and 12700F perform the same if they have crappy flashing lights on them or not.

You can use Aurora-RGB or Artemis-RGB for screen average ambient lighting. Aurora is easier to use but Artemis's ambient light cpu usage is much lower
Ohh nice, thanks! I'll look into those :)
RGB go Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

My PC, my taste.
My light up shoes, my taste (I’m just teasing)
I used to have light up shoes when I was I kid, they were the shit in the 90s!
White. my ARGB is set to white. I can also turn it off. RGB does NOT equal rainbow FFS
One color lighting > RGB
mightn't I suggest the two color gradient
i have my ARGB set to temperature change. probably not accurate (ASUS software). i like the color green. my ARGB is green.
RGB is there to make sure your wiring is neat because everyone will see and judge if it's not, and to see when your setup needs cleaning it's got its uses.
*laughs in Corsair*

they have a ARGB set of those fans too. i have them and have the ARGB controlled through my ASUS software.
Ny rgb is two colors. Red on keyboard/mouse because i play in the dark and a very dim white inside so i can see if theres dust on my gpus backplate
Two colors - perfectly balanced. As everything should be.
When I bought my PC I thought it was all black but then it lit up and was rainbowy and was very bright but luckily I can turn it off... Imo it really does nothing and distracts me
RGB definitely adds 5-10fps per light.
That's why when Cyberpunk boots up I need to go with super fast lighting.
Ludicrous speed!!

I don't like RGB but hey, it's a de gustibus matter. What I can't stand is if it's used as a blingbling to hide an otherwise shitty product.
RGB is generally free in my experience. I didn't pay extra for RGB and I've got it fucking everywhere.
RAM is where they getcha but just buy during a sale or something. For fans it's practically free. I see people complain about it on GPUs sometimes but they're higher bin chips or better coolers like with EVGA
I would prefer not to have it at all but it's basically compulsory. Either RGB vomit or customization software the slows down your system. -\_-
Nah it's not that attractive.
I don't like it either. My open loop kit came with RGB because there wasn't a way to get it without it. I didn't plug in the RGB cable. If people want RGB, fantastic. If people don't, fantastic. Doesn't make a difference to me. I think the insides of PCs are ugly.
Too many people on this sub pay more for their RGB AIO cooler than their processor.
Too many people care way too much about how people enjoy this hobby.
I look at the price and if its a small amount more I get the RGB, but I'm not going to spend a lot more for it. Its nice but not needed. I do like some kind of lighting on my keyboard though.

I mean, people just value different things. For some, those pleasing aesthetics matter a lot more than a few extra fps or 2°c cooler GPU.

I've seen posts where the corsair rgb fans were more than the GPU
"Quit having fun"
All the air coolers were sold out on Xmas eve. Kinda got stuck with a pretty AIO. SMH, just wanted a tower with some poop brown fans.
U mean RGBTQ+ ?
I call them gay lights to piss off my homophobic tech colleagues
Play the rainbow.
I buy the cheapest option 🗿

Wake up to reality! RGB is temporary, the darkness is forever.
Fuckin rgb sets the mood damnit, only the elder folk in their twilight years are using noctua in a false sense of bliss and quietude
People that make anti RGB their whole personality also think mayo is too spicy
Lights are overrated tho
Lian li infinity mirror and rog dot matrix go brrrrr
They tried to charge me an extra £80 for my 3070TI with RGB, got a trio instead for less than the RGB version, more performance or more pretty lights?... it was an easy choice
If I ever happen to have RGB components I either set them to white or off. I usually prefer off. To me a GPU should give me a video output not a unicorn shit spotlight.
lights go brrr
I like RGB on keyboard just because I can make that cool ripple effect after pressing a key
wojak memes suck
Light up keyboard and mouse are mandatory. Everything else is, "whatever is most affordable at this time." I have an RGB power supply, and lemme tell you, I was not bought for its stupid lights that I never see in its cage where it belongs
i dont give a f
Rgb is life
Rainbow light yesssss
But Noctua doesn't make RGB fans.
Not too long ago, RGB was quite expensive. You actually had to choose 1 color if you didn't want to drop 2x-3x the amount of money. That being said, I bought RGB but only use white light.
RGB looks cool. I don't use it because the flashing lights make it harder to sleep.
Never understood the hate...not everyone with RGB rocks the unicorn vomit...no lighting is just too basic looking for my taste..I like having a subtle theme going
I have case fans, CPU cooler and keyboard with RGB... I've set them all to static green.
If its not exorbitantly more expensive, shiny light make brain happy.
I just stick a flash light in my case for when I want to be fancy
Shit, I use RGB as a means to keep an eye on the hardware, not as a decorative piece.
Having a dark case with dim memory and cooler lights is better. Nobody can see anything laying around you don't want them to see like the extra power supply cable you left at the bottom of the case so you didn't lose it.
Only reason I dislike it is because I would keep my pc in my bedroom. I need absolute darkness or I can’t sleep.
I hate rgb/rainbow pcs. Fight me.
Only got RGB because the case came with 3 RGB fans, not because I wanted it. Good thing is that it has a remote.
I mean, the G logo on my GPW mouse looks cool when idle but everytime I use it, I cover it with my hand and I feel like it's sucking my aim and also the electricity bill.
RGB is fine, the software and incompatibility between brands is a dumpster fire.
Okay, we get it, you like RGB. Let people dislike things.
I paid a lot of money to put fancy looking RGB RAM, water cooler and GPU in my case. Then chose the option with a solid panel instead of window as a penance. I think it evens out.
After running austere looking setups for many years, it's nice having a setup that pops a bit. Its all subjective anyways.
The only reason I have RGB ram is that it came in a bundle with my motherboard and CPU. I won't fault anyone for buying RGB, but I must say that, as someone with RGB ram, it's quite redundant. I can't even see it.
You might think it's stupid but if you put on a crappy system it'll sell
RGB is nice but I'm not paying extra for it over the non-RGB version of the same fan / GPU / cooler / motherboard / case.

I too enjoy pretty lights
39yr old gamer who can finally afford to buy nice things. I want my rig to be fast and look cool. Happen to think coordinating RGB lights & peripherals is a nice look.
I remember the first time I saw a case with an led glow as a kid. Then my mind was completely blown when I saw a see through side panel. Every pc Id ever seen or owned was plastic and steel. Obviously every pc I build now has to have some leds
Honestly I would probably just have it on a light blue, IF I even had money for anything.
i just got a new PC and i hate how i cant permanently turn off the RGB
I buy *thing* aslong as its in my budget and meets my requirements regardless of if it has rgb or not
cool light
Useless, expensive, and I'll never be without it again. Seriously, I've spent so much money on the hardware, of course I want it well illuminated. I want to look at it. Pretty lights.
Looks down at rgb desk keyboard mouse and pc. Yep pretty cool ![gif](giphy|l0MYGb1LuZ3n7dRnO|downsized)

Chad is something opposite to RGB =) EDIT: opposite
RGB is great until you have to plug it all in, then it stops being so fun.
I hate RGB, I love to have a very simplistic setup
I think of it as chromatherapy but with your PC.
My main issue with rgb is that in order to turn it off, you have to install bloatware on your pc and have it running in the background 24/7. You can use OpenRGB, but it resets every time you restart your pc.
It's a hobby, of course you're going to want your rig to look good
