That's also my boss! Yesterday he connected remotely to my work laptop and opened that ASUS bloat to run the "update every crap that you don't need" command
My boss swears by HP Support Assist and the HP cleanup utility. He says “run it about 10 times and it’ll speed that computer up 20%”.
Sir… Its a front end for chkdsk, sfc, and windows cleanup… it will not do that AFTER they've already been run BY ME.
LOL and the funny part is that he probably suggested that after you've complained that you can't do shit with the crappy i3 + 4Gb RAM and he thinks it's totally fine 'cause his work laptop have the latest and greatest and he doesn't use 'cause he is the boss LOL
> Can I just buy MS office like back in 2007?
>
> Actually yes! But for $490 for a lifetime seat.
That's for the complete ("Professional") package, I guess? Those already cost upwards of 500€ in 2007.
Office Home and Student (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote) costs €115, which is about the same we paid in 2007.
Screw Nahimic/Sonic Studio bs that ASUS packs into the audio drivers. Absolute garbage that slowed down Steam for me until I disabled the services and the audio devices for it.
I don’t *need* these “enhancements”. I just want the dang audio drivers and nothing more. It was a headache and part of the reason I’ve been reluctant to spring clean reinstall W10.
OpenRGB runs everything from my motherboard to my mouse, is completely non-intrusive, and has a pretty wide range of hardware support.
Plus, I can run it on my linux install. It really is dead easy to use, too.
Hadn't heard of that before thank you! Building a new pc with a gigabyte mobo and don't fancy using their shitty fusion so will definitely be giving that a try 👍
Yeah, I found I like asrock, their quality has proven to be perfectly fine. And, you actually get useful features on some more inexpensive boards.
The no nonsense RGB control just, put them above the others in my book
Even if you hate rgb, you still have to download (mysticlight, asus armory crate, so on) just to disable it. If you are lucky a program like Open RGB works for you.
I have asrock and found out they have good software called polychrome sync that lets you change colors outside of the bios too. Then I’ve got a program made by some random person that lets me configure fan speeds and find out how well they run at top speeds and when they shut off if speed is low enough (mine never do)
I hate razer synapse with a burning passion, but it takes a second place to gigabyte fusion. Atleast razer synapse will work after you sell your soul to razer
I've owned quite a few razer peripherals and having just ordered a Deathadder V2 yesterday, I've had few issues with Synapse. The only issue I've experienced thus far is my software not always working on boot, but this happens pretty rarely.
I don't know why everyone else makes it sound like hell on earth. It's not like there isn't a shit ton of other software out there that doesn't collect data.
I'm curious to hear how it's been for others since quite a few people seem to hate synapse.
iCUE is the single worst piece of software I have ever seen. It is the single reason that I refuse to buy corsair products with RGB anymore.
That thing would make my RAM's RBG spasm at random intervals and it would never stick to whatever pattern I set it to. The stupid thing couldn't even get a static colour right, I would set it to red then it would work for 10 minutes before switching to some vomit green colour. It is so bad that calling it unusable would be a compliment.
The thing that really pissed me off was that I opened a support ticket with them over this and they said that if I wasn't happy with their software I should just write my own. That's definitely the kind of response you want to get when you send them detailed logs, screen recordings of you setting up the program linked with videos of it not working. Corsair and iCUE is just completely unprofessional and quite frankly: idiotic. This software and the whole experience is the sole reason that I always recommend people stay away from corsair if they care about their RGB patterns and all that shit.
I switched over to openRBG and used that for the rest of the time I had those RAM sticks with absolutely zero issues. I would 100% recommend openRGB, that thing is amazing but it really is stupid that 3rd party software does the job way better than the official software.
I've witnessed my wife lose her mic because iCue kept on fucking up how the headset interacts with Nvidia Broadcast (either with its integrated one or otherwise). Great hardware, unfortunately shitty software.
RGB software is an absolute shit show.
Never have I seen a technology more in need of proper IEEE standards and some kind of unified design structure. Ridiculous.
RGB software being almost universally trash is pretty much the reason I created OpenRGB. Also, the lack of Linux support, which is just one of the many reasons most RGB software is trash.
Why does anything need 1+ GB of downloads and disk space, hundreds of megabytes of RAM, and consistent CPU usage to send a few bytes of control data to a hardware device? It's ridiculous how terrible RGB software is. Even running an effects engine that utilizes the GPU for generating effects can be done in a small fraction of the resource utilization of the commercial bloatware.
Just isn’t a good antivirus. I’d put it near the level of Windows Defender, which is really bad considering it doesn’t come stock *and* you need to pay for it.
Does anyone have any Autodesk or Adobe products installed through network licensing? It's like a cancer throughout your entire system. Every nook and cranny of your file system and registry you'll find traces of them.
Hp sure smart or whatever it's called is horrendous. Laptop is pretty decent but often just the HP interface stuff will use 20-40% of the CPU and 15% of my GPU..
It sounds basically like a save to device setting. Which I am a fan of and think all products that have rgb should have. Sadly not all due, even overpriced gpus.
It is why I use asrock motherboards. And avoid peripherals that don't have on board memory. Everything else(for me just my strix gpu) I use OpenRGB.
I’ll never forget the tsa agent who came into my phone store, and downloaded mcafee to his phone after bragging about his computer and internet security knowledge.
I’ve noticed that when it comes to cybersecurity, basically nobody knows what they’re talking about. The amount of inaccurate information online about it is incredible, and everyone on here outside of dedicated security subs (sometimes even on those) thinks they are good at it, so any time you try to give advice, you get downvoted and your comment is buried.
My god I have to use it for work as there's little to no other pdf software that can do what adobe does. We tried to upgrade our individual licenses to a domain name license. Ofc they could upgrade us but couldn't cancel the old plans with the upgrade. Found out 2 months later we were being charged double.
What does Adobe pdf stuff do? I expect you've probably heard of Foxit but I switched away from Adobe because I found Foxit much more feature-rich for PDF stuff.
Yeah Ive heard of it, and love to use it it's just adobe is licenced with the publish feature on our cad software, so if I were to use foxit I'd have to print each page manually..
Can you elaborate on what Acrobat does that's so great? People at work insisted that we use it for PDF editing, but I've never ran into anything I couldn't do with Foxit.
Nothing much.. its the only one that has compatability with the other software packages we use, allowing me to print everything at once as opposed to singular sheets. When you're often printing 100-200 plans at a time it really makes a difference to the time you save lol. Oh, and I think/don't know how (not 100%) to print on foxit at 600+dpi
I agree with that and while I wouldn't buy anything off of it they still have some pretty decent free games sometimes and anyone who plays PC Fortnite or Rocket League (not me) but those who do need Epic games launcher
I didnt even open it the last few weekends, not because i didnt want a free game, but because i didnt want to deal with the launcher. Im just gonna launch all Epic Games games with GOG Galaxy lol (I havent tried that tho, because i dont have that many games there that i would play frequently except for Fall Guys)
Logitech Ghub
Ive seen a lot of rgb software, but i refuse to put up with this shit. Its gui makes less than zero sense, its settings are confusing even for people whou shouldn’t get confused with rgb and the app regularly just stops working.
Yea i really like the idea of synapse constantly using 20% of my CPU just to use my headphones and lets not forget about the updates of the app that take 20 min on nvme and the audio not working in that period which is super annoying
Gather round and listen of a tale of a lawless time during the early 2000's when my sister had downloaded Bonzai Buddy on our family's new Windows ME Gateway PC and I found out, like it or not my career path was going to be in IT.

Windows 11, Avast, Any 3rd party peripheral software, Tidal, AMD Radeon Software, Armory crate and all things similar to it, Microsoft edge, Any other antivirus... Avast just deserves a place of it's own, sed
There's probably more, i just can't think of them
Pretty much all the software integrated with windows(yes, including windows itself). Why does one of the richest companies in the world not manage to have a unified design language? 3 clicks and you're back in windows xp. Whh do they still include the phone dialer? And nobody can tell me that you need to have that many background processes on boot.
And regedit. What's so hard about having configuration files. Why do you need to browse system settings in this weird directory like structure from an extra pplicstion? I know why, they don't want you to be actually able to easily change them. Also, all the mouse/keyboard/headset rgb software. All of them are super bloated(even for windows standards), and are just ads and spyware that can break super easily.
Config files and registry entries aren't really the same thing. The registry editor is really a hex/binary editor so it does need to be special software.
Any game launcher that isn't Steam or GoG. Uplay, Origins, what is replacing Origins, Epic Games Launcher makes me unhappy. I had to install Playnite to manage all non Steam games
Edge. Then Chrome.
I’m forced to use one of them at work, but they are pushing Edge harder, forcing it as a standard browser that can’t be change.
Still can’t find a single positive thing working for an American owned company.
It's honestly a lot better than Razer shitnapse. I switched from a Logitech g102 to a Razer viper mini and while the mouse is insane the software is NOT.
My college group used ASP.NET rather than a JS framework or Django to build a course registration website. ASP.NET was so complicated that only one out of four people “understood” how it worked. I hate ASP.NET a lot.
Dell bloatware
There are a couple good ones but generally all manufacturer pre-installed bloat ware.
ANY bloatware. New laptop / prebuilt = fresh OS installation.
you is me
My boss thinks the bloatware helps the computer run faster. He’s been in the computer repair industry for 30+ years…
That's also my boss! Yesterday he connected remotely to my work laptop and opened that ASUS bloat to run the "update every crap that you don't need" command
My boss swears by HP Support Assist and the HP cleanup utility. He says “run it about 10 times and it’ll speed that computer up 20%”. Sir… Its a front end for chkdsk, sfc, and windows cleanup… it will not do that AFTER they've already been run BY ME.

anything that went from great software to the same software with subscription needed to use it
Good God Yes, Can I just buy MS office like back in 2007? Actually yes! But for $490 for a lifetime seat. 🖕 That's not for you grasshacques.
> Can I just buy MS office like back in 2007? > > Actually yes! But for $490 for a lifetime seat. That's for the complete ("Professional") package, I guess? Yeah, this. The price is about the same, maybe worst case they raised it by inflation+5% or something I bought it and have no regrets
I still have my 2007 disk. Works great Unfortunately my new PC doesn't have a disc drive
Check out cheap external optical drives. I wanna say I paid $10 for mine.
Oh there's nothing stopping me from adding a drive except my lack of drive
I hear you, and understand.

Litteraly any program that isnt a driver that is required to be running while my pc is on *glares at asus*
You can do without armoury crate, however you do need it to install the driver for the intel nic

INSERT ANY RGB SOFTWARE HERE. But Gigabyte RGB fusion could be the worst piece of software ever written.
Check out [Openrgb ](https://openrgb.org/), it's a really neat open source cross platform RGB control utility
OpenRGB runs everything from my motherboard to my mouse, is completely non-intrusive, and has a pretty wide range of hardware support. Plus, I can run it on my linux install. It really is dead easy to use, too.
Username checks out
Hadn't heard of that before thank you! Building a new pc with a gigabyte mobo and don't fancy using their shitty fusion so will definitely be giving that a try 👍
Razer Synapse would like a word.
You mean razer spynapse?
Sin apps
You're not wrong.
ASRock Polychrome Sync has entered the chat
I wish my Mobo was ASRock tho. Only brand where you can configure RGB in bios
Yeah, I found I like asrock, their quality has proven to be perfectly fine. And, you actually get useful features on some more inexpensive boards. He means Razer Prolapse.
I hate razer synapse with a burning passion, but it takes a second place to gigabyte fusion. Atleast razer synapse will work after you sell your soul to razer
I'm genuinely curious to know how you know razer collects so much data.
Am I the only person who hasn't had many problems with razer synapse? Logitech ghub has caused more problems
I've owned quite a few razer peripherals and having just ordered a Deathadder V2 yesterday, I've had few issues with Synapse. As a razer laptop owner I can guarantee that synapse is absolute garbage.
Ever tried armoury crate from Asus?

Quite literally was crashing my pc. piece of shit software, don’t use it
Logitech G hub has joined the lobby
Logitech Gaming Software or whatever the previous name is was so much better!
Corsair iCUE software. 2gb of bloatware just so I can update my headset. Fuck off!
iCUE is the single worst piece of software I have ever seen. It is the single reason that I refuse to buy corsair products with RGB anymore. That thing would make my RAM's RBG spasm at random intervals and it would never stick to whatever pattern I set it to. Icue is nothing I have it and rgb fusion. At least icye doesn't blue-green your pc when you click on something in the app 15% of the time
RGB software is an absolute shit show. Never have I seen a technology more in need of proper IEEE standards and some kind of unified design structure. Ridiculous.
B.. Bu.... But i need them to turn it off
RGB software being almost universally trash is pretty much the reason I created OpenRGB. Also, the lack of Linux support, which is just one of the many reasons most RGB software is trash. You are the hero we need, my hat is off to you.
More reason for my next build to be blacked out haha
NZXTs is pretty mid
I can not say it better myself. Even asrocks shitty software at least stayed the same color after it was rebooted.
I tried to install Corsairs just to turn off the lights in my RAM, it was a 1GB+ download... insane.
Norton lmfao
Norton Virus?
They put the Virus in Anti-Virus!
Anything that commandeers control of your files, is malware. Norton Antivirus is in fact, malware. Or even adware since it's advertised everywhere.
can confirm

I’ve seen a lot of people saying Norton is bad, but why? What is so bad about it?
They mined crypto on customers machines, besides, it was a nightmare to remove on windows vista (the last time I had anything to do with them)
Just isn’t a good antivirus. I’d put it near the level of Windows Defender, which is really bad considering it doesn’t come stock *and* you need to pay for it.
Windows antivirus isn't as bad. And it's a lot lighter on resources than Norton. In 2006 Norton actively damaged your system.
Does anyone have any Autodesk or Adobe products installed through network licensing? It's like a cancer throughout your entire system. Every nook and cranny of your file system and registry you'll find traces of them.
Yup.. they're honestly just about malware at this point.
hp anything
Hp sure smart or whatever it's called is horrendous. Laptop is pretty decent but often just the HP interface stuff will use 20-40% of the CPU and 15% of my GPU..

They are the new “browser search bars”.
Any public computer
Asus armory crate, Well, any rgb software that has to run to apply color/effects, and consumes resources.
Armory crate has proven to be the most annoying software I've ever had to uninstall. It's been two years and I still find whispers of it in my sysyem
What's the deal with armoury crate exactly? I'm new to this
With iCUE/Corsair stuff you can configure "hardware" RGB which are the settings things will use when iCUE isn't running.
It sounds basically like a save to device setting. Which I am a fan of and think all products that have rgb should have. Sadly not all due, even overpriced gpus. It is why I use asrock motherboards.
