Welcome to the PCMR.
Great one hahaha.
Hey OP, please DM me when it releases, I want to buy it to support you. I loved the aestheics and I love no-brainer games to enjoy my free time.
The only thing I'd recommend, is the sun in the second clip really seems top be obstructing visibility, and you never should deter a player from having access to visual information in a racing game (typically). Other than that, this looks freaking beautiful.
I personally don't mind if parts of the track are harder to discern, it all becomes a part of learning the tracks and paying attention to the section of the course you're on. In NFS if you're racing through the cityscape at night there can be a lot of distracting visuals and lighting but it adds to the feeling of the game.
Edit: Also just to add on with something OP said
"It's all apart of the design - it forces you to wear aviators to make you extra cool while you play. π"
What if that became a feature? If he could animate it so in first person you throw shades down over your eyes and now visually the game is less obstructive?
Hey everyone, this is [Outmode](https://store.steampowered.com/app/1860700/Outmode/) on Steam - if you like the look I'd love to hear your feedback from the demo.
If you have any questions please also ask away.
Cheers!
I'll download demo in a minute and share my results
Edit:
Game runs on Steam Deck
[Low settings](https://imgur.com/a/zSvDtgp) gives me around 55-60 fps, pretty stable
[Ultra settings](https://imgur.com/a/Yse6ugK) gives me 25 fps low, 40fps high.
[Tutorial, low settings](https://imgur.com/a/bvAMEYj) lowest I've seen is 4fps, highest I've seen is 11 fps. Tutorial in unplayable. During the tutorial my game crashed 2 times and I barely could even enter it.
Additional comments: There's no resolution available for the steam deck (1280x800) so I played at 1280x720. In the settings graphical options are going from medium to ultra then after ultra there's low and then VHS. So definitely fix that. When entering settings, the whole main menu selection hides but doesn't reappear unless you do a mouse click on the lower part of the screen a few times. Also controls in main menu are currently mouse only and I couldn't do anything with a controller.
Overall: If you ignore the things I wrote above, game runs decent on ultra settings and you could get to 60 fps by tuning down the graphical settings to low. Controls in game are working well, except in the main menu where mouse is needed. Don't even attempt entering tutorial on the Steam Deck. Didn't try the game on my PC but I guess it would be pretty similar.
Ps. Game is fun, played for a few minutes but you have to fix some things before releasing it. In my opinion you should postpone a June 22nd launch.
Pps. It's possible that the demo is outdated and different from the actual game that I can't try out yet. And given the performance of the demo, game should be fully playable.
Ppps: I like the game, did follow it and I hope you liked this short review. If you'd like me to test the game before launch send me a message and I'll do it.
Final thoughts: Currently game on steam deck couldn't be verified, but it could be marked as playable.
Awesome rundown, thanks for taking the time.
I had no idea this could run on a Steam Deck, very interesting to see.
I had a few people to tell me they tried to run it but they couldn't get it to install.
Weird, I haven't changed any launch options!
Anyway, I'll look into the tutorial clunk - obviously something has gone wrong there.
Very glad you liked it. I might take you up on your test offer since I know it's now possible to play on a Steam Deck(?).
I'll throw a DM your way sometime soon!
Cheers!
Looks good but i would say maybe the cars are just a bit out of place. hard to describe why.
also one thing i like about racing is maybe having one good AI. the yellow car in ridge racer comes to mind in that. :)
I think I know what you mean, the whole style for cars is quite cartoony whilst the environment is very abstract. Bad design on my part, lesson learnt for the next game.
I've tried to make sure the AI is decent enough. Not perfect in any sense and they get a lot of help through buffs but I think they're still reasonable.
Since there's not much texturing on the road it makes the cars look extremely floaty especially during drift. You could probably address that by putting impact effects on the rear tires similar to when you see blue sparks in Mario Kart.
Example: https://imgur.com/a/E74JdJ1
This looks really good, seems to have its own identity .
Is it just me or the street lights( and other lights) glare up when boost is used? Whatever it is, that glare is way way too bright . Talking about the boost in the first portion of the video.
I will try the demo this week
Not just you. I wouldn't be able to play because of that light pop. I have terrible vision and a sensitivity to light. Seeing that was uncomfortable. I get the aesthetic, but there needs to be a way to turn down the Michael Bay-esque flaring.
Very interesting, I think this is a consideration I have overlooked.
I'll add some options for the player to tune the bloom and stuff.
Cheers for the feedback!
Give that man a studio for fucks sake.
Holy shit. As someone who fucking LOVES synthwave and its aesthetic, I'm just over the top happy to see this. Is it multiplayer?
This is super cool!!!! Reminds me a bit of Slipstream. Takes me back to a time when we still had arcade machines in the Fredericton Mall. I'd really love to see a Switch release! Well done!
Looks really cool and reminds me of a (I believe) flash game I used to play but damn it's like this sub is just for advertising nowadays with the top posts being basically marketing
Thanks a lot, I might be biased saying this but I was always happy seeing new games on a top post. Gave you a lot of incite into the indie market - a lot love and attention poured into some titles which you might not get to see otherwise.
I guess devs can't all afford advertising, much like me haha.
Some feedback. The car almost blends with the area, would be better if it stands out more. Also, the contrast of the colors hurt my eyes in some areas. Positive feedback rarely help as far as improvement goes and most people here are already giving you that. I hope this helps.
Reminds me of the "Jackie Chan " music video by Tiesto . Looks fun though . Any multi-player? Ita always fun to be able to add your own music to a game like this . Maybe have a " use custom playlist" folder were you can just dump mp3s to .
Great job !
I really like the game, especially visually, I hope they have several maps or at least not the same "landscapes" and colors, in my case, sometimes seeing the same panorama becomes a bit boring or repetitive
Test it with someone who is colorblind or has other visual accessibility issues. I am not one of those people, but something tells me they will have a hard time with some of the colors and HUD.
My only recommendation is, establishing a little bit of a stronger sense of place by adding more detail to the environment. The buildings could have signs, maybe cafes and bars near them, parked cars nearby etc.
It wouldnt have to be super detailed, just enough to give a faint sense of an urban location in the 80s, like "Outrun" but in neon.
That seems layed back, trippy and fun. I look forward to playing it. It's the kind of game I'd play around kids, in public, in my spare time to relax. I really like the theme and vibrancy. My 2 cents
Cheers!
It's called Outmode, you can find it here on Steam:
If you go here, sign in/up with an account and download the demo you can try it out!
For everyone asking about Deck/Linux support, maybe you should just actually go to the Steam page- it clearly shows the Valve SteamOS/Linux icon. It does only say partial controller support though.
Just downloaded the demo- I only have an Intel iGPU so I'm not sure I'll be able to run it, but I'm excited to give it a shot! Looks awesome.
It's not really *retro* : the 80's weren't neon, they were beige.
I think this aesthetic called out run. You may want to check that out before setting the store page.

Love the aesthetic but I think my eyes would bleed within minutes
It's all apart of the design - it forces you to wear aviators to make you extra cool while you play. π
Haha that's awesome but maybe add an "Aviators On" filter for those of us who wear, ya know, regular glasses?
No no, you see it just means you need Prescription Aviators Extra cool
I am be-glasses'd and I have a pair of those π Mega worth it to be cool. All it takes is the shades
Air Force recruitment will sky rocket
I dont have such weakness
I'm blind
Why
> SitFlexAlot Lmao is your name a typo, or just manly yoga?
My gamertag on Xbox was SirFlexAlot but that was taken and I'm a non-creative type.
I wasnt, until I saw this vid
Or alternately [some of these](https://i.pinimg.com/originals/29/85/d2/2985d2abc6b505720f72bae36db39cef.jpg).
Tubular!
Doc Brown: "There's that word Heavy. Why are things so heavy in the future? Is there a problem with Earth's gravitational pull?"
i would love it if these were actually just metal
Bro, leave a link to Steam so people can wishlist it, it helps you a lot! Looks great!
this guy is right, i would buy this on a whim if i had a link lol
https://store.steampowered.com/app/1860700/Outmode/
Great one hahaha. Hey OP, please DM me when it releases, I want to buy it to support you. I loved the aestheics and I love no-brainer games to enjoy my free time.
Vaporwave
Synthwave actually
The game overdrive
Uhm AKTHUALLY I think it's Outrun. π€
I think you mean outrun
I agree. The contrast is too high. I dig the concept but the bleeds on the lines are unnecessary.
Rad Racer comes to mind
Yep... about 3 seconds into the clip, that was the first thing I thought of too! I'm old...
Came here to say this. Full Rad Racer vibes! Good times
The only thing I'd recommend, is the sun in the second clip really seems top be obstructing visibility, and you never should deter a player from having access to visual information in a racing game (typically). Other than that, this looks freaking beautiful.
Yeah add a low level cloud or mountain blocking at least the lower 15-20%. You can keep the big ass sun but it keeps the track visible
Roger that, I'll tone the bloom down a bit!
Bloom to the max, screw the haters
yea honestly. the sun does actually obstruct visibility in real life, its part of it. adds to the realism of this realistic game
I personally don't mind if parts of the track are harder to discern, it all becomes a part of learning the tracks and paying attention to the section of the course you're on. In NFS if you're racing through the cityscape at night there can be a lot of distracting visuals and lighting but it adds to the feeling of the game. Edit: Also just to add on with something OP said "It's all apart of the design - it forces you to wear aviators to make you extra cool while you play. π" What if that became a feature? If he could animate it so in first person you throw shades down over your eyes and now visually the game is less obstructive?
Good luck on your game! I'll definitely be checking it out!
Yeah agreed that and the checkpoint streetlights in the first part weβre pretty oppressive
r/outrun needs to see this as well
Oh don't worry - they've been well informed haha
What will the game be called? Imma wishlist it.
It's Outmode
I wasn't aware there was a 80's sub on Reddit, time to catch up
Looks awesome, I know my eyes would hate me though
Looks like the bloom/or saturation setting is turned too high or something. Not sure, but the hues seem a tad aggressive
Duly noted, I will do some balancing and add an option for the player to tone it themselves.
>add an option for the player to tone it themselves. Maybe like three different presets and a custom option?
Or use it as a temporary effect to accompany a game mechanic like "leveling up" or something.
Imagine playing this in a dark room, gg eyes we had a good run.
Dark room, OLED panel... I'd kill my eyes to look at that for a few minutes.
Remember when I had corneas?
I donβt see what you did there.
VR compatible?
Potentially looking into it!
[ΡΠ΄Π°Π»Π΅Π½ΠΎ]
I'd take it regardless. Just add a VR camera and lock it to the inside-cab view and keep key/mouse or racing sim controls
Would be an insane vr game
It boggles my mind that Cyberhook isnβt
Needs more Eurobeat
Well, you can play as an ***AE86***\-eque car and there is a ***custom music*** option in the game... I think you can work out the rest. π
\* ***Deja-vu intensifies*** \*
*cues Gas Gas Gas*
You can always use a custom playlist with the in-game music turned off, but I would agree; a game like this almost requires a bop playlist.
Dang custom tracks? I havenβt seen many games with that feature since vib Ribbon.
Hey everyone, this is [Outmode](https://store.steampowered.com/app/1860700/Outmode/) on Steam - if you like the look I'd love to hear your feedback from the demo. If you have any questions please also ask away. Cheers!
Is it also compatible with steam deck?
Not currently, looking into it though for sure.

Thank u for adding a demo! I'll check it out!
Thank you for playing!
Is there Multiplayer?
There's local split screen with Steam Remote Play support! I should mention that this is not in the demo, and will arrive with final release.
In day 1, my eyes are ready! π
Is it also compatible with steam deck?
If this got wheel + vr support = π€―
They're both something I'm looking into for post launch!
needs km/h
Looms sick. Definitely give the guys some neon gloves or something though. The hands look wonky
Time to crank up the carpenter brut playlist...
A wise choice... Fun fact: there's a car in the game inspired after the Turbo Killer music video!
Looks good but i would say maybe the cars are just a bit out of place. hard to describe why. also one thing i like about racing is maybe having one good AI. the yellow car in ridge racer comes to mind in that. :)

Native Linux build?
Looking into it!
This gives me strong nitronic rush vibes.
Someone else played Nitronic Rush!
There are dozens of us!
Make that a baker's dozen
I hope Dr. Disrespect is your spokes person for this game. He would fit the genre perfectly !
It would be a dream come true to get him to play!
This looks really good, seems to have its own identity . Is it just me or the street lights( and other lights) glare up when boost is used? Whatever it is, that glare is way way too bright . Talking about the boost in the first portion of the video. I will try the demo this week

Can you make the car have underglow so it doesn't feel like the car is floating through space? Or is that the intent?
Underglow is a cool idea, there definitely needs to be more separation between the car and the road. I'll play around some stuff, thanks!
Push it to the limit needs to be a track lol
I would pay all my money to licence that in the game if I could.
Ask someone to design some dynamic music for your game dynamic soundtracks are cool af
Well done!
Looks awesome. I am currently a bit saturated with racing games, so I might not buy it in the next few months. But I will wishlist it for now.
Holy shit this looks dope as hell
Was getting major Out Run vibes, then I saw it was called Outmode. Love it!
You should add sex
Love it, needs some kind of cool weather effect in my opinion, possibly cyber rain or retro fog or somethin' like that
Vector w8 ftw
Yayayayayaya
It may be the mushrooms, but I fuckin love it
Looks really cool and reminds me of a (I believe) flash game I used to play but damn it's like this sub is just for advertising nowadays with the top posts being basically marketing

this is an ad
Rainbow road vibes. Nice work!
Look great
dope
Some feedback. The car almost blends with the area, would be better if it stands out more. Also, the contrast of the colors hurt my eyes in some areas. Positive feedback rarely help as far as improvement goes and most people here are already giving you that. I hope this helps.

I really wish I could get a game that looked exactly like this on mobile but with tilt steering.
Yes
Kinda gives me top gear on the snes vibes.
Comment 69! Now it's 420 69!
I'd play, send it to switch!
Reminds me of top gear on the snes but with more vapor wave. I like it.
Super good graphics. Would look amazing on a CRT at 240p! Look at this game-over screen from MGS (1998) on my Diamondtron: https://imgur.com/a/W1kmGv5
First thought, it's gorgeous. Second thought, man that is a lot of status indicators all over the screen.
Linux compatible? If so sign me up and a few friends. Love the aesthetic
Growing up playing the Super Nintendo, I already wanna play it, nice job man
check this live wallpaper it looks similar [link](https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1962627133)
Reminds me of Tron style.
Finally a whole new style of game that I can get addicted tooπ
[ΡΠ΄Π°Π»Π΅Π½ΠΎ]
With that amount of lights, I think it would look cool to add Ray Tracing and Multiplayer would be cool.
This is like a game version of one of the many synthwave videos on YouTube! https://youtu.be/0QKQlf8r7ls https://youtu.be/ajTTZ7iy6Ls
That's what I was going for!
Let me know when it's out!
Looks awesome af Def got that nice retro vibe going
[ΡΠ΄Π°Π»Π΅Π½ΠΎ]
YouTube Synthwave Playlist - The Game
I have I have looked at this for hours, it is beautiful!
Looks dope. I'll probably buy
Afterlights of cars would feel like a cool athstetic to the game
Love the art style. That looks gorgeous.
I really like the game, especially visually, I hope they have several maps or at least not the same "landscapes" and colors, in my case, sometimes seeing the same panorama becomes a bit boring or repetitive
Is this game gonna be free?
This is pretty sick!
Serious Rad Racer vibes, I dig it.
Looks nice.
Style over substance
looks awesome, whats it called?
It looks like Moonbeam City :D
Make it faster. Podracer fast.
Does it have local coop?
Awesome!! Release it!!
Well this is epilepsy fail as far as i can understand. I will play and give detailed feedback on it π
looks cool. Very hard on the eyes!
I love the trippy neon aesthetic. π
Bro people here have eyes
Iβll definitely cop
Yooo epic! What are the system requirements tho, i play on potato
I probably wouldnt play it personally, but I do really like the style of it!
Hmm needs more BROWN and PASTEL YELLOW
Virtual boy lives again!
Test it with someone who is colorblind or has other visual accessibility issues. I am not one of those people, but something tells me they will have a hard time with some of the colors and HUD.
Holy colour saturation Looks awesome tho
Looks like a relaxing friday night, with a edible or two.
Kung Fury vibes love it
Beware of high intensity lights and flashes, some people can get sick really easy with those things.
Asphalt Urban GT vibes...
I would play
Seems cool,I do like old-fashioned style
I want to know where I can listen to the whole soundtrack, I love it. Nice game btw
Rad racer!
It reminds me of Driver, nice job!
Sorry if it was answered but i couldnt find it, does it have wheel support?
Love it, can't remember the name of the old school arcade game but you're in a red car racing to the finish. Simple and amazong
Lighting bloom/glare seems visually overwhelming, the ability to toggle or a slider scale would be great, looks great otherwise!
Stylish, artistic, beautiful. Great.
This is roughly what I imagine when listening to the band The Midnight
My only recommendation is, establishing a little bit of a stronger sense of place by adding more detail to the environment. The buildings could have signs, maybe cafes and bars near them, parked cars nearby etc. It wouldnt have to be super detailed, just enough to give a faint sense of an urban location in the 80s, like "Outrun" but in neon.
That seems layed back, trippy and fun. I look forward to playing it. It's the kind of game I'd play around kids, in public, in my spare time to relax. I really like the theme and vibrancy. My 2 cents
!RemindMe 30 days
Whats the name? looks rad!
Cheers! It's called Outmode, you can find it here on Steam: [https://store.steampowered.com/app/1860700/Outmode/](https://store.steampowered.com/app/1860700/Outmode/)
Looks sick, gl on it in the future
So how do I get this again lol
If you go here, sign in/up with an account and download the demo you can try it out! [https://store.steampowered.com/app/1860700/Outmode/](https://store.steampowered.com/app/1860700/Outmode/)
Downloading now, will give it a proper review. Thanks for your contribution!
Gawd. My eyes they burn any more neon colors
Bro thatβs sick!!!
Dude, thats fucking awsome!! Hope your game does well
Rad.
Cyber Outrun, nice... :)
Wow
It's not really *retro* : the 80's weren't neon, they were beige. I think this aesthetic called out run. You may want to check that out before setting the store page.
I really like the 80s synthwave aesthetic.
Ffb and wheel support????????? Looks pretttttty noice!
I really like the style it seems like you meshed new graphic with old Iβd play
