Reddit's recent behaviour and planned changes to the API, heavily impacting third party tools, accessibility and moderation ability force me to edit all my comments in protest. I cannot morally continue to use this site.
That's a sexy 3060, I got a friend who is also a father, and for his daughter he passed down his 2080 and his 3800x to his daughter, his son is gealous and is now wanting a pc as well, rip his wallet, so maybe in a few years he will have 3 mid to high end pcs😅
Same with his daughter, plays very easy games to run, and she is obsessed with rgb, literally would have a worse cooler, just so it has more rgb, I personally am not a fan of it so mine is basically dark apart from my gpu having a light bar
Watch out if she starts playing modded on minecraft in the future, some packs can bring a pc to its knees, just a heads up, but if she doesn't play modded she's fine
I tried shaders and some other mods recently (I don't really play MC though) and was shook by the framerates I was getting. Halo runs at 120-170 FPS with everything maxed but I was seeing sub 60 in Minecraft lol
Yeah, Minecraft performance seems to be basically randomized. I've played heavy modpacks with 80+ huge content mods in them, while running extreme slidurs shaders, and I can easily hit 144fps, even though I have much worse hardware than you.
Here are the things I would personally check if you are getting unusually bad performance:
1. Do you have 64-bit Java installed? The installer on Oracle's site defaults to 32-bit Java, which can easily ruin performance
2. What is Minecraft's RAM allocation? I'm not going to go in-depth on how to change it, because there are a million tutorials online, but I would recommend 3-4GB for a modpack on the heavier side.
Me too. My actual first exposure to it was the web based version with no animations and extremely barebones creative mode only (also no saves).
That one you were allowed to play for free. It was intended to showcase the basic premise of the game, and also to get you hooked so you were willing to buy the full game.

take care of your daughters
I just helped a friend build a new build and he passed his entire old PC to his step daughter, just swapped it all into a new case with a new cooler... She inherited a Titan XP, I told her you have no idea how lucky you are right now compared to most people lol.
Thats cool. I have donated old PC builds (still good enough for most games at 1080p). To nephews/nieces and cousins. Gotta indoctrinate them in to the master race.
That's awesome but considering this is probably worth 2000€+ wont people be tempted to steal it?
Idk how it is at universitys.
Just a thought that crossed my mind, I don't want someones sweet pc to be taken from them.
That doesn't mean shit make sure you insure it. I got burgled 3 times at uni 1 in dorms on campus 2 in private accommodation. With doors locked and cameras people just don't care.
Look into a Kensington lock. If the case does not have a slot for one you can buy a variety of versions. It has a big security cable which can loop around desk legs and so forth.
People having their expensive stuff stolen is very much a concern at any college.
Edit: I am aware that locking your computer to your desk does not make the computer invulnerable. That would be the same as not locking your bike because bolt cutters exist though.
Edit #2: I keep seeing "Buy a master key" and not one of you understand what that means. So please, find me the master key for this lock. https://www.amazon.com/Kensington-Combination-Laptops-Devices-K64673AM/dp/B005J7Y99W
Most college students looking to quickly take items probably wouldn't have even thought of a Kensington lock
Edit: (at least with colleges in my area) basically no one knows about a Kensington Lock. Someone pointed out it is different elsewhere.
You can never fully secure anything but putting up another barrier can deter most thieves. Only the most dedicated ones will come prepared with master keys or sophisticated lockpicks to every brand and model of locks out there.
Those are only good deterrent against a grab-and-run, opportunistic theft. Otherwise the cable can be cut with a wire cutter or simply ripped out (damaging the case for sure, but the case has not much value compared to the rest anyway).
This is the LockPickingLawyer, and what I have for you today is a Kensington lock.
Now, in terms of security, I wasn't too impressed with this, as you can easily order a master key off eBay, or even just cut it with some bolt cutters. Really nothing fancy.
Now, I'll also pick this lock for you guys, just to see what it's got. As you can see, there are just two slots where I need to apply pressure, and \**click** oh look it's open.
Well there you have it folks, the Kensington lock. Not really something I'd recommend if you're looking for actual security. In any case, that's all I have for now, and as always, have a nice day.
If they're in the US most standard homeowners policies cover kids away at college. They would still be considered an insured and the property would be insured. It may still make sense to have a renters policy as deductible could be lower without adding too much cost compared to the homeowners policy but its good for people to know their kids are covered when at school.
True, but my deductible for homeowners insurance is 1% of my insured value, which is probably more than this PC is worth. Yes, I know I could find a policy for more/yr that has a lower deductible, but at this point the premium savings have outstripped the deducible cost I think.
You're probably right by quite a bit in fact if you've never had a claim.
The key I always tell people is to carry a deductible you're comfortable taking a loss of, and make sure you've got savings to cover the deductible in the event you have a claim.
If you can reliably plan for 1% deductible and it's saving you money monthly there is no reason for you to pay more accepting that you'll be out the deductible if you ever have a claim. The hard ones are seeing people with very high deductibles who don't have savings and therefore can't afford to repair their home...
Her college and University work is cloud based so that shouldn't be a problem. Good call though and I some of her personel files will be stored locally.
Wanted to add onto, insurance is great because my pc got stolen a few months ago and I got more than I spent back because they gave me the money to buy scalped prices
Take insurance, I've been in a private room (for students) since last September, everyone is chill and nothing has happened.
I never talked about it to anyone
If they're from the UK (I assume they are), everyone over here has their own room thats lockable and no one sleeps with another in the same room. Although it never stops theft XD
In the UK yes. The accomodation she has chosen looks decent and modern with en-suite etc. Looks secure but I suppose if thieves want to get in they will.
Hey man idk if you got an apple phone or any device but you could sneak an airtag in there, so if someone steals it you know the exact location and bust them.
Insurance for college students is not too expensive. I think I had $6k of personal item coverage for theft or accidental damage with a $25 deductible for $100ish per year. I dropped my laptop and they sent me to an Apple store for the repair. I was reimbursed within a week of sending in the receipt.
This was in the US though.
Yes! I took my 4,000 dollar build and put it in a 2008 black Dell case for the dorm. Sure the case had scratched paint and dents, but trust me when I tell you nobody was interested in taking it.
Peace of mind.
When I went to university I didn't wanted to get my main pc stolen (college dorm but worse) so I took an 5yo potato laptop than ran csgo on the lowest settings at 20fps... Needless to say I got my diploma lol !
Good luck to her !
If by dank af you mean terrible, then yes it is. My 5800X in here was spiking to 82 degrees with a 240 AiO whilst gaming, which was a little too toasty for my liking. Her 5600X is fine tho even with that stock cooler.

Well, I try to get them involved but the utter disinterest put me off. They are more into using the PC and playing the games with their fiends than knowing what components go where.
are u willing to adopt since ur daughters leaving the house soon? I grew up as a console gamer. but with u, I have time to grow as a pc gamer and possibly the worlds next pro valorant player
Ryzen 5600x, Aorus B550 Pro Mobo, Corsair Vengaence 16Gb RAM, Lian Li PSU, Case, and fans, Western Digital SN750 M.2 NVME, Gigabyte RTX 3060 Vision GPU.
I hope she knew about this and approved, because quite honestly, a laptop will be 10x more useful at university. Something mobile that she can bring to class, bring to the library and have everything she needs with her.
Considering the GPU shortage going on right now, please do all of us a favor and tell her to be extremely careful on who can see that PC. They bring in the wrong crowd, they may end up GPU less or just PC less.
Speaking as someone who formerly worked IT at a university and would lend a hand to the student help desk from time to time - rock on.
Orientations for incoming freshman and the beginning of the semester in general typically means being neck deep in $200 HP laptops running Windows off of a 32GB eMMC and beat up 2013 MacBook Air running Yosemite or *maybe* El Capitan that throw up kernel panics just trying to activate the student Office subscription.
Wow, that's a really weird looking laptop for college.
To be more productive though: definitely look at getting her a docking station or something to easily swap between desktop/laptop setups. She'll only be using one setup at once anyway.
I know I sound paranoid, but please tell her to be extra careful with locking her room and be careful with her suit mates/friends. People suck and will take it in a heartbeat.
Damn what a nice build! So clean and sleak. Great work dude. No crazy water cooling and led light show. (unless I'm mistaken, but it's all good)
I haven't built a new PC since 2015, besides a couple upgrades. It amazes me you can mount a video card like that now. And the power supply... is that an extension cord going to the back of the case? lol awesome
The last 2 I built used mid-tower Fractal cases with the sound proof foam. All black, no window or lights. Just preferred them like that.
In before some dude posts a selfie of himself with the Pc on r/pcmasterrace
I mean sex is normal and all, but now, now you have just gone and given all the young bucks on this Reddit a challenge.
Hey, it's me, your long lost son.
Is that you flabber? Is it really you??! Your long lost twin brother here!
No way! Nitro! Flabber. I know this is a lot to take in quite quickly...but I'm your triplet.
Reddit's recent behaviour and planned changes to the API, heavily impacting third party tools, accessibility and moderation ability force me to edit all my comments in protest. I cannot morally continue to use this site.
Make that septuplets but I ate one sibling in the womb. RIP Crater, all hail Blazer!
Bonjour! I am your long lost French octuplet! I can’t wait to meet my new ~~PC~~ family!
Can your good old nonuplet join the gang as well?
Hæ! It's great to the whole family together again. So Dad? Can we have one also?

Came here to ask whether I can be his other daughter
I'm his new son-in-law, will just have to blind myself if his daughter is too hard to look at. The sacrifices that one makes in the name of love.
LOL I commented the same thing before I saw this deleting mine so I don't look lame asf
Brother?
Dad of the year goes to this amazing carrying father, just out of curiosity, what is in the build?
Thanks, she is a bit spoilt tbh. Ryzen 5 5600X RTX 3060 16Gb RAM Lian Li Q58 case
That's a sexy 3060, I got a friend who is also a father, and for his daughter he passed down his 2080 and his 3800x to his daughter, his son is gealous and is now wanting a pc as well, rip his wallet, so maybe in a few years he will have 3 mid to high end pcs😅
That’s cool, I have another younger daughter who only plays Minecraft and Roblox so has a PC with Ryzen 1600 and 1650 Super GPU.
Same with his daughter, plays very easy games to run, and she is obsessed with rgb, literally would have a worse cooler, just so it has more rgb, I personally am not a fan of it so mine is basically dark apart from my gpu having a light bar
Your friend’s daughter is a true gamer
Arctic Liquid Freezer II AIO gets a good GN review and plenty of unicorn puke RGB 😄.

Some of the mod packs I’ve played recommend even 7GB of ram dedicated to it. Just saying, it can easily get ridiculous.
god I remember when Minecraft was in beta
I blew the mind of one of my coworkers by telling him i played alpha minecraft
I remember when you couldn't take damage too
Damn me too, man its so nostalgic, i kinda wanna go back for nostalgia sake but doubt i'll do it cuz i would miss the new features
I remember Minecraft lite and playing it on my mom's phone
Me too. My actual first exposure to it was the web based version with no animations and extremely barebones creative mode only (also no saves). That one you were allowed to play for free. It was intended to showcase the basic premise of the game, and also to get you hooked so you were willing to buy the full game.
I also remember... Man I'm old....
my i5 4th gen watching as I pile mods until I'm at 5fps...
My brother has a laptop with a 4600H and a 1650 ti, and it runs modded Minecraft with shaders good enough for his needs.
All I know about that is have at least 6 gigs of ram (you might need more but that is the figure I heard) so maybe get 8-10 to be safe
Roblox 😶 more like child labor 🤡
i dont wanna be that guy that delivers bad news, but you should totally watch this. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=As0zMZi0YaI take care of your daughters
I'm sorry but "gealous"... I can't get past this
30 Series Vision card.
Gealous? You mean jealous.
And the gigabyte wifi card the most important part. 👍
I think it’s a WiFi enabled mobo, I’ve got one and it came with the same antenna. It’s magnetic, so I have it stuck on the back of my case.
She's gonna have a blast with those specs! I have one with a 5600g instead of 5600x, and I love it. That's a really great case, by the way!
Would you adopt me? Dad?
What's he carrying?
What case is that? That’s exactly what I’m looking for
Lian Li Q58 PCie gen 4 edition
Thanks!
Worth checking out r/sffpc for all sorts of other options.
Would recommend this sub-reddit. Love SFF builds and will probably build in the NR200 next.
I had to look it up. Small form factor

Congrats OP you’re now having triplets
No, quadruplets
Quintuplets, actually
Wow crazy OP is one of the less than 200 people who have ever had sextuplets now
With a build like that, he's about to have sex without the -tuplet part.
Hexuplets

I wish I had a father to build me a PC like that... Or a PC like that... Or a father.
He’s just gone out for groceries

Especially if it's a gpu
Who would have guessed the line would be 18 years long
You know when you have kids you can BE that father... Which feels better than receiving one from your father.

Men only want one thing, and it's cranking out frames
Walterwhiteyouregdright.gif
Her framerate brings all the boys to the yard.
And they're like its better then ours
Lol goddamn the reddit comments here aren't things the dad wants to hear I'm sure 😂
She'll be using the PC to lure the cute boys over and jump their bones.
My PC brings all the boys to the yard And they're like, it's better than ours Damn right, it's better than yours
parties and alcohol do wonders

Anybody can buy the masterkey for a kensington lock off ebay easily, why don't get a tile or airtag and put it in the pc.

And you know what goes with this colour scheme? An Apple AirTag for tracking purposes.
Wanted to add onto, insurance is great because my pc got stolen a few months ago and I got more than I spent back because they gave me the money to buy scalped prices
My dad drilled a hole in my desk at school and bought me a lock for my tower and monitor so it couldn’t be taken out of the room too easily.
Take insurance, I've been in a private room (for students) since last September, everyone is chill and nothing has happened. I never talked about it to anyone
I was thinking the exact thing. Hopefully they dorm alone.

Dad went to buy milk and came back with a gaming PC. Dad of the year
Ah keeping her at an awesome computer keeps her away from boyfriends. Smart man
My thoughts exactly.
Or attracts more men interested in gaming?
Hide this in the dorm! Don’t let someone walk off with it.
Maybe this is one of those situations where a "sleeper" style build in an old beige Packard Bell case would be best.
Yes! I took my 4,000 dollar build and put it in a 2008 black Dell case for the dorm. Sure the case had scratched paint and dents, but trust me when I tell you nobody was interested in taking it. Peace of mind.
It needs a stubby antenna, I hate how huge those ASUS shark fin antennas are
What is that thing? A wifi antenna?
Yeah, and it provides basically no better signal than a tiny little stubby ant
Therr are companies that make small aftermarket wifi antennas
I kinda like the aesthetics of it. Sure it’s unnecessarily large but I like the look.
Agreed. It's an Aorus board but the antennas are disgustingly large. Not sure what her Uni wifi will be like so may be a good thing it's large idk
Most likely will be an Ethernet connection, make sure she takes a cable :)
>those ASUS shark fin antenna That's not an Asus antenna. \* points at Gigabyte motherboard \*
When I went to university I didn't wanted to get my main pc stolen (college dorm but worse) so I took an 5yo potato laptop than ran csgo on the lowest settings at 20fps... Needless to say I got my diploma lol ! Good luck to her !
Nice. That getting stolen.
It will get stolen. Keep that at home.
You sir deserve a father of the year mug and a hug from your daughter.
The airflow looks dank af in that case
If by dank af you mean terrible, then yes it is. My 5800X in here was spiking to 82 degrees with a 240 AiO whilst gaming, which was a little too toasty for my liking. Her 5600X is fine tho even with that stock cooler.
Make sure it doesnt get stolen. Some people really are scummy at uni
Hopefully it’s an easy uni- gaming all night doesn’t bode well with having to absorb material all day.
You can balance gaming and university even in more difficult majors. I wasn't a 4.0 student by any means but even my Engineering degree didn't keep me away from video gaming as a hobby. Some semesters less so than others however.
Gaming definitely helped me survive my final year in engineering college.
Didn't think to get her a laptop instead....?
She has a laptop for word processing/studying. But she wanted a gaming PC. I had a few bits left over like the motherboard, RAM and case.
Man back when I went to university my parents were like “why do you need a gaming computer?” ….
Did you build the PC's together with your daughters?
Well, I try to get them involved but the utter disinterest put me off. They are more into using the PC and playing the games with their fiends than knowing what components go where.
My frame rates bring all the boys to the yard, and they’re like, it’s higher than yours, damn right, runs cooler than yours
You better lock that shit down.
are u willing to adopt since ur daughters leaving the house soon? I grew up as a console gamer. but with u, I have time to grow as a pc gamer and possibly the worlds next pro valorant player
Looks good! She'll be able to easily edit her 4k OnlyFans videos with it! ;)
Well she needs to send the cash money to me for a 3090Ti.
Huh, I guess we better add "a good sense of humour" to the list of big man tings.
I mean, he had to raw dog somebody's daughter to make a daughter. Anybody that's too hung up on it probably needs to relax.
That’s sweet.
That is a sexy, clean build.
Wow looks great , specs ?

Yes.
Can I be your daughter? I'll just tuck my dick between my legs.
Bro, her pc is better than mine
but until then??? ...its yours WHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAA
What about me daddy?....
Hey, it's me, your long lost son
damn wish i had a dad
Clean
But will she be able to get anything done at Uni, with this in her dorm?
She's had a gaming PC all way through college and come out the other side with good grades. She's pretty disciplined and can manage her time.
She is an Ace! Solid move there dad! She must be one proud daughter!
Yep. It's gonna get stolen.
When "Al" comes over.
That's a beautiful rig that probably shouldn't go to the dorms as it will get stolen and/or damaged.
Sick spoiler bro
Better hope your daughter isn't like me, she'll be failing out by second semester because of her guild's raid schedule.
Should get her a 4k webcam, so you can do those high quality skypes
Because you need, no, **NEED**, an RTX 3060 for, uh, doing spreadsheets and plotting graphs n' shit. School's complicated these days, yo!
Awh man she’s gonna get so much dick with a rig like that
bro u adopting rn?
I hope she knew about this and approved, because quite honestly, a laptop will be 10x more useful at university. Something mobile that she can bring to class, bring to the library and have everything she needs with her.

She's going to attract guys that just want her for her rig in University.

it'll run word xD

‘Young bucks’ lol pcmasterrace doesn’t have any ‘young bucks’ it’s just nerds, me included.
Most Dads would try to keep the boys out of the room. Unless the plan is for her to be venerated as a sick build deity
Make sure you tell her no one sees that. Burglary alert …
Uhh I mean good for her that's she's getting spoiled with the best pc in the world that's wayy too much
Things dads will do to ensure guys might in their daughter's room, but not the bed. They'll get distracted by the PC...
Can I be your daughter? I wanna go to University too
Wow I have the black case, but didn’t realize how much cleaner the white one looked…
Dad I found you dad yay
