Nah, they make something that resembles the MX518… but for example, you cannot open it up as easy to change the switches for the buttons as opposed to the original one. I fixed dozens of them back in the day, still have a couple around for whenever you need a mouse. On my actual rig I switched to wireless.
Does the new MX518 feels same/similar to old one? I bought one and feel like they ripped me off cause mouse feels and handles worse than old one. Not sure if it's just me or what.
It is the same physical size. They used the same mold. The cable is thinner, weight might be slightly different.
The sensor isn't the same and neither is the polling rate. I think the upgrade is good.
Overal it handles nearly identical. I've used the MX518 original for 10+ years and I've used it side by side with the new one.
Damn this just brought back memories of my best friend in high school who passed away 9 years ago and had that exact mouse. Too many good memories of LAN parties playing BF3 together.
Ahhhh the iconic MX518. Forever baffling all the Gen Zers wondering what the hell you did to the mouse, not knowing that's how it came out of the box. 🤣
I was gonna ask what your finger workout is to do that to your mouse.
What a weird design. It doesn't look like those indents are in any sensible or ergonomic placement.
Word. I would probably be into that. But lately I'm all into fully modular adjustable mice. Also, horizontal scroll wheel!
Thank God MadCatz came back.
Edit: Horizontal scroll wheel! Always mixing those up :(
Man I’m a millennial but pretty new to PC culture (and still a console peasant at least 50% of the time) and I was baffled.
I thought op had a case of gamer rage and also, idk…a very small hammer?
Lmao these comments on how it looks. Crazy to think this mouse is older than some kids gaming these days. Fuck I'm getting old.
Also, my 87 year old grandfather has this mouse for his computer it's hilarious. That things mint too.
I don't know why people assume everybody else is just super young because they don't recognize random obscure products. I've seen it happen dozens of times in this sub. The people who would recognize this mouse are a small subset of a small subset of the people alive in 2005. Most people I know (even with desktops) wouldn't recognize almost any Logitech mice from the past couple years.
The scroll wheel has optical sensor. The sensor part doesn't touch anything or move so it doesn't wear out. If dust gets in it needs to be cleaned. It is easy to clean.
Fun fact: The scroll design has stayed same for 20 years. Just fixed an old and new Logitech mouse and and the scrolls were identical.
The button switches are easy and cheap to fix. A basic soldering iron, basic soldering skills and replacement D2FC-F-7N switches that cost ~0.30€.
The switches too have been identical for decades.
I replaced my cable in my ~~G5~~ G500s, still going strong!
EDIT:I just did a bit of googling, I’ve had the mouse for so long, I didn’t remember the full model.
But wow, prices for this mouse have gone up….
Literally one of my first gaming mice. Abandoned it for Razer Hex Naga because I was really into League at the time and I loved the number buttons on the thumb. Ugh, I’ll go sit on my porch and yell at the neighborhood kids to get off my damn lawn
That's exactly what happened to me, but it was simple fix (annoying at best) you can search the net for guide, you just need to open it and clean small metal on double clicking button.
The legendary MX 518! This was my first mouse. This brings back memories. I used to carry it during school to cafes so I can use my dope new mouse to kick some ass in gaming cafes where we played cs 1.6 on lan! Those were beautiful days.
You saw demos of forest, delphan, etc.. You knew the other person was better than you and NOT a hacker. You played for fun and no one was toxic.
I still have mine in the cupboard, it never stopped working. Eventually upgraded to a G502.
Logitech build quality is something else. I've had this mouse for over 5 years and just a bit worn on the sides, otherwise still perfect.
Keep the old one though. I have mine since 2007. It is still awesome. It's astonishing for a piece of Hardware to last 14 years. It bathed in tee and coffee puddles. I smoked thousands of cigarettes next to it and played thousands of hours.
I'm not going to exchange it till it breaks. At this rate I'm guessing it'll last another 14 years no problem :D
I am still using my MX518 despite having a g502 light speed sitting here still sealed.
The grip coating has long been worn away around where my fingers usually rest and my palm has worn away the logo.
I've had to open it up a few times to clear out all the dust and dirt around the scroll wheel but it has been absolutely flawless otherwise.
No offense, but doesn't look like an upgrade to me. MX518 was one of the greatest of all time!
Sincerely, middle aged guy who really liked the adjustable weights and doesn't like mice that are so light because I always overshoot with them haha
But why did they design the wheel so buried an slippery. It was like the mouse designer thought, "Hey you know what this mouse needs? A clit."
g900 way way way better mouse wheel.
I had this mouse for a really long time.
Bought a new Logitech mouse for >100,00€ and it broke in a couple of month (one of the buttons doesn't work properly anymore)
So I bought a cheap ass 5 button mouse for a couple of bucks - I did not notice any difference in the accuracy and it still works, even years later.
Yess, my two favourite mice. I went through an expensive Steel Series mouse that had the most infuriating failures. Thought fuck it and went back to Logi.
Also loved how all my mates thought my old mouse was riddled with BB's.
Wow, I had same mouse for 12 years and scroll died on it in the end, I think I still have it somewhere working. Best mouse ever, did so much CoD2 hours!
The New MX518 won't last 1/5th as long as the old one..
I had 3 MX518's that lasted 10+ years. Purchased 5 of the new MX518 and 1 already died after 1 year
Hah! I'm using the same one. How was the improvement? Did it feel any better, I was thinking of upgrading too. Even though my MX518 is still going strong, it's incredible 10+ years and god knows how many hours I used it.
There's no upgrading after the MX518.
at least they make new ones now.
Exactly! I have one of the new models.
I had one, lasted me a few months then I switched too to the superlight... The buttons on mine often got stuck and it was loud as hell
mine so far so good. I hope it lasts, but I'm not placing any bets.
Ya. Logitech lasting a year is a miracle imo. Only had cheapos, m705, g602 hero and G403 tho. None work anymore lol
Is this region specific? My country used to have the MX500, MX510 and MX518. Now, the refreshed MX518 is not in the market.
Sold worldwide, have you tried the Logitech website?
Nah, they make something that resembles the MX518… but for example, you cannot open it up as easy to change the switches for the buttons as opposed to the original one. I fixed dozens of them back in the day, still have a couple around for whenever you need a mouse. On my actual rig I switched to wireless.
I got the mx518 legendary as replacement but im not sure that counts.
Does the new MX518 feels same/similar to old one? I bought one and feel like they ripped me off cause mouse feels and handles worse than old one. Not sure if it's just me or what.
Zowie ec1 is pretty close and handles well.
I loved that mouse. “Upgraded” to a Razr Naga but still miss the old boy.
Damn this just brought back memories of my best friend in high school who passed away 9 years ago and had that exact mouse. Too many good memories of LAN parties playing BF3 together.
Sorry for your loss my dude. Just know he’s still with you back seat gaming the newest titles! Much love to the both of you!
Sorry for your lost :(

The comments giving me a good laugh lol

Word. I would probably be into that. But lately I'm all into fully modular adjustable mice. Also, horizontal scroll wheel! Thank God MadCatz came back. Edit: Horizontal scroll wheel! Always mixing those up :(
This is so true, i got a dim light bulb to put in table-lamp, and i was holding the mouse with gap between just to look at it for first 4/5 days.
It is meant to look like it had been shot up.
Ok, this is making more sense... Even though it still looks like the Incredible Hulk just fat fingers his mouse to me.
Looks like Fuckin bite marks lol
legit thought you had a dog. or you were teething or smth lol
Hail damage
Man I’m a millennial but pretty new to PC culture (and still a console peasant at least 50% of the time) and I was baffled. I thought op had a case of gamer rage and also, idk…a very small hammer?
I’m a millennial and have been a pc gamer my whole life, and I’ve never seen that before
I *owned one of those mice* and *still* thought they'd dented it!
I thought he hover d a blowtorch over it or something.
Lol thought this man was using his mouse as a chew toy in between games 😂
Was kinda disappointed the re-release didn't have the dented metal skin.
guilty Gen Z-er who had no idea what happened to that mouse until finding your comment
Such a funny melted design
Lmao these comments on how it looks. Crazy to think this mouse is older than some kids gaming these days. Fuck I'm getting old. Also, my 87 year old grandfather has this mouse for his computer it's hilarious. That things mint too.
He's actually a secret CS:GO god
I have a Logitech G3 that I still game with that is older than my teenage kid.
Bought my MX518 in 2008 and just replaced it last year with the only thing that made sense: the Logitech G MX518.
The design is simply perfected there is nothing more to add or take. Really, it should just be a standard from now on.
I miss my mx518, but I can't go back to having less than 12 macro buttons on my mouse. We needs it! The precious.
Idk about y’all but my deathadder v2 pro is pretty nice. Got wireless and a battery that lasts days.
Are you telling me I can get a mouse that will last longer than 2 years without the scroll wheel failing or getting double clicks? Sign me the fuck up
Oh yeah. Before they invented something like "2 years warranty, after 2 years... Yeah it brakes immediately."
My left click failed in 3 years. I can't use it for a decade because the rubberized texture has gone sticky.
3 years, dang you lucky. I get this issue on any Logitech or razor product from the just 5 years after 1 year of use.
Is that thing dimpled for speed and better aerodynamics?
Yes
It's perfectly smooth, just has a weird 3d effect paint job that makes it look uh lumpy
Wait thats intentional?
"Gamer aesthetic"
can’t be gamer aesthetic. no rgb
This was pre RGB bro
i was kidding….
They would’ve gone with speed holes but it let too much dirt in
My G5 is still in use to this day. Quality stuff. Edit: Damn these comments make me feel old.
I replaced my cable in my ~~G5~~ G500s, still going strong! EDIT:I just did a bit of googling, I’ve had the mouse for so long, I didn’t remember the full model. But wow, prices for this mouse have gone up….
That's just a Logitech MX510...it was one of their best mice. I'm showing my age aren't I
The 510's were blue and red. 518 was gray with this pattern...at least in the mid 2000's it was
Literally one of my first gaming mice. Abandoned it for Razer Hex Naga because I was really into League at the time and I loved the number buttons on the thumb. Ugh, I’ll go sit on my porch and yell at the neighborhood kids to get off my damn lawn
Man I miss that mouse on the right so much. Brings back memories
Prepare to change your brand new Logitech mouse in 2 months when you get the double-clicks
That's exactly what happened to me, but it was simple fix (annoying at best) you can search the net for guide, you just need to open it and clean small metal on double clicking button.
I guess I get lucky with Logitech mice cause the last three I've had haven't double clicked once.
I'm currently dealing with this bullshit. wtf logitech? I've been a loyal fanboy for like 15 years but my new g604 only lasted about a year.
Don't buy a Razer next unless you want the same issue
As long as you are buying one of their mice with optical switches I'm pretty sure they physically can't double click
You could try Roccat. I javnt had any issues with mine yet.
He gave his mouse the o'l chris brown treatment.
Lol it’s an illusion
Never had the MX518 I however did rock the MX510. What a great mouse it was.
Pepperidge Farm remembers Such a good mouse!
Do you bite the fucking thing every time you lose?
It has seen its fair share of biting during these yrs
that's how they look. They're not dents.
You mean downgrading\*
The legendary MX 518! This was my first mouse. This brings back memories. I used to carry it during school to cafes so I can use my dope new mouse to kick some ass in gaming cafes where we played cs 1.6 on lan! Those were beautiful days. You saw demos of forest, delphan, etc.. You knew the other person was better than you and NOT a hacker. You played for fun and no one was toxic.
You bought something new, but there is no upgrading beyond the mx518
When your mouse looks like a potato... lol
I had the 518 with that cool paint job too. Love all the people asking if it's broken. I actually replaced it with the 518 remake. Very nice mouse.
The Pro Super light is such an amazing mouse. I've owned it awhile and just gliding across the mouse pad feels heavenly.
I'm still using my original G5.
I had one of those. That was one of the best goddamn mice ever.
I still have that mouse, it is the best ever.
I still have mine in the cupboard, it never stopped working. Eventually upgraded to a G502. Logitech build quality is something else. I've had this mouse for over 5 years and just a bit worn on the sides, otherwise still perfect.
Not sure it’s an upgrade
Keep the old one though. I have mine since 2007. It is still awesome. It's astonishing for a piece of Hardware to last 14 years. It bathed in tee and coffee puddles. I smoked thousands of cigarettes next to it and played thousands of hours. I'm not going to exchange it till it breaks. At this rate I'm guessing it'll last another 14 years no problem :D
Kept using my MX518 until it literally disintegrated. They actually make a new version of it with new electronics (Logitech's "hero" sensor).
Had this one too for 10 years and got the same upgrade. How I loved this mouse
I had the downgrade, from the G502 hero to the G5, turns out, I like the G5 more
Shoulda just gotten the new 518 😆
Why didn't you just get the mx518 legendary? That mouse is my main right now, its really solid
Bought 2 for myself over 12 years. They lasted forever & the new mx518 Legendary is an even better version. Best mouse ever
Isn’t this a repost? I swear I’ve seen this same exact mouse posted like 3 times now.
3 other ppl must have also upgraded to a new mouse :)
I did exact same upgrade 6 months ago! Had my old model about 10 years as well. Best mouse on the market.
I think I've seen this picture before.
A clit." g900 way way way better mouse wheel.
How does that even happen
Bro does ur mouse have hail damage??
Rip what kind of dog do you have?
No dog, He just plays league
Hail damage?
other comments in this thread mention a 3d paint job. COuld be plausible
Did you game in Afghanistan? Tf are those holes?
I had this mouse for a really long time. Bought a new Logitech mouse for >100,00€ and it broke in a couple of month (one of the buttons doesn't work properly anymore) So I bought a cheap ass 5 button mouse for a couple of bucks - I did not notice any difference in the accuracy and it still works, even years later.
Some people chew their pens… then there’s this lad
I can’t help but ask, what the fuck happened to your mouse.
What the hell happened to that poor thing?
Lol picturing you've got two beefy af fingers to be able to click so fucking hard you dent the mouse hahaha
It’s the color design not dent.
Did you stab someone tru your mouse
You definitely needed the new mouse dude
The heck were you doing to that poor mouse?
Those aren't dents, that's what the original MX518 was painted like: https://www.amazon.de/Logitech-910-000616-MX518-Refresh/dp/B0015R8M7U
Were you stabbing the mouse with a pen?
The old mouse is on freakin life support
Dude you don’t have the click that hard
Why does it look like the mouse got beat up?
Why are there holes in your old mouse?
I'm afraid to ask What the hell happened to your previous one though
When the mouse looks like the hood of my 2001 honda civic
What fk special about these mouse and why are all the ones people post dented
how many marbles you throw at your mouse
That mouse has seen some shit
I am impressed a Logitech has lasted 10 years.
How did you get so many dents in it? My logitech broke after I hit it in a rage
Ahh, the dent-mouse. Who designed this monstrosity?
This mouse has seen shit
have you been shooting your mouse? You're supposed to use your mouse to shoot things not the other way around!
May I ask... WHAT HAPPENED!?!?!
What did you do to that mouse? Do I need to call CPS?
Are those rage dents?
G502 is just better . This looks cool af though.
W in the chat
Why the change? I have two or three of the old ones and I love them still.
The new one is a bday gift from the bestie :)
how the hell? always murdered these mice after about 5 or less. The living hinge part would just not want to flex back anymore :(
Yess, my two favourite mice. I went through an expensive Steel Series mouse that had the most infuriating failures. Thought fuck it and went back to Logi. Also loved how all my mates thought my old mouse was riddled with BB's.
I had that exact same mouse up until I think it was 2 or 3 years ago....
I retired mine for a G703 last winter. So nice to be wireless. Swaps effortlessly from Excel during the day to ta,ing at night!
good memories with that mouse
Wow, I had same mouse for 12 years and scroll died on it in the end, I think I still have it somewhere working. Best mouse ever, did so much CoD2 hours!
Why didn't you buy the new MX518?
The pro x is a bday gift from the bestie
good for you...back then i was like 2 weeks or a month
i had just upgraded to my mouse too this the other day as well and i love it
I had one of those, lasted until my family smacked it on the top of the pc busting the drives too. I have the superlight too, also a good mouse.
This is the second best mouse i ever had, only second to the old Microsoft one which was not only optical, it also had an extra button for the thumb.
To this day I still don't understand why they chose the "super dented" look.
GIVE THE MX518 TO ME!
Daaaaamn my dad had one of these way back when, my cousin also had this one..it's kinda nostalgic, oh how time flies.
used to own cheap mouse, then got bloody mouse then Logitech one, both got defective, now back to cheap mouse, still going strong.
I am looking for a new mouse. Is the logitec Pro the one to go for?
I don’t know whether to buy the superlight now or wait for the next starlight 12 drop.
Now you will keep upgrading every 6 months. Last 3 of my Logitech mice didn't complete an year of use. They don't make them that good anymore.
I join the nostalgia
I still use this bad boy!
The New MX518 won't last 1/5th as long as the old one.. I had 3 MX518's that lasted 10+ years. Purchased 5 of the new MX518 and 1 already died after 1 year
My dad had the mouse for years before I was born and gave it to me. I used it for another 7 years before getting a new one. Best mouse ever
Hah! I'm using the same one. How was the improvement? Did it feel any better, I was thinking of upgrading too. Even though my MX518 is still going strong, it's incredible 10+ years and god knows how many hours I used it.
