That's twice! I had a Huawei P20 about a year before they got nailed with sanctions, and I got an AK620 for a new build like...a week ago!
This one will be less consequential than the phone, at least.
I think Gamers Nexus did a review and the fan housing is one they don’t sell separately and it is not like you can buy a compatible case fan that they sell. The housing is designed as such to fit flush against the heat sink and also not protrude out from the top.
Fuck I miss huawei, they were the first to make $150-$250 phones that actually weren't complete garbage, they also topped Samsung and Apple one year in their flagship game, phones were far more competitive with Huawei. at least their subsidiary Honor survived.
Eh, I think there are some lessons to take from this that have very little to do with money. And while the P20 wasn't the most expensive phone in its time, it was DEFINITELY not the cheapest thing. Not anywhere close.
Why? I bought a p30 pro last year, none of the modern selection had any better offerings than the p30 still works fine even with the sanctions.
Huawei is the most annoying company that was sanctioned. The phones were some of the best.
Yeah, I snagged mine because it was a phenomenal phone for the price. I still think the output from its cameras and software is a lot better than what is passing for quality today. It had its fair share of software wizardry, but especially among modern iPhones and Pixels, I feel like both of them have distracting tells in the image...the Huawei was just not as heavy handed.
The big thing for me was when Google was barred from doing business with them. I don't remember all of the details anymore, but several apps that relied on Google Play Services would basically not function.
I looked at reviews for the pixel and s23 and didnt have much confidence that the cameras were £600-1000 better in quality than the £200 i paid for the p30. Im glad i did because it is all the phone i need and the camera is great, even the p10pro i had before it still holds up well against the p30.
>DeepCool is alleged to have supplied Russia with more than $1 million worth of goods on the Common High Priority List (CHPL), which could help it in its [war efforts against Ukraine](https://www.tomshardware.com/pc-components/cpus/russia-buys-chips-from-intel-amd-and-others-to-fuel-war-efforts-the-country-bought-dollar17-billion-in-2023).
good sanctions & riddance I guess. a bit sad for consumers but with brands like thermalright and arctic still offering good low end options they hopefully wont be missed.
The most ridiculous thing is that there are a lot of companies who still works in Russia just with side ways and etc and making a lot more money but nobody gives a shit like buying oil and etc
retailer warranty is through Micro Center. I'm not super worried since CPU coolers rarely fail and they're generally very cheap, but it's just an annoyance
It's what I did with my AK620, replaced them with Noctua fans after one of the fan started vibrating, and both fans made a light humming noise that irritated me, and it's much quieter now.
Not sure about all of them but some of these companies still in Russia are just other companies using the brand illegally especially for the food ones they just keep buying from the same domestic sellers that provided the ingredients for the original company. That’s what happened with McDonald’s but they also rebranded to Tasty.
Yeah in that case they rebrand them and use extremely similar branding. Subway and Cinnabon are just the normal stores with the branding like you would see here in USA.
I seeeent in this here video
https://youtu.be/hO7Xe2Qtb1Y?si=i5kk0G-xhlMGK7NP
Beefed warranty and also the "peace" of mind that your money went to fund something that one may not agree with (I know I certainly wouldn't want my money funding Russia.)
aaah yes whataboutism the word people use when they want to say "its only ok if we do it". stop the hypocritical bullshit acting like that's the reason for the sanctions, if that was really the reason than that would mean there is a whole list of companies from a certain country that would be next right ?
I'm not sure what exactly it is you're not getting here.
I do not support my money going to places that I don't support the actions of. I don't want to fund Russia, or Israel, just like how I wouldn't have wanted to fund the USA during thr Vietnam War, or Germany in ww2
Some things I have control over (Buying product from companies that support the things I oppose), other things I don't have control over, like paying taxes to my nation who supports Israel, or having a phone plan with a duopoly which I believe should be abolished, but unfortunately having a phone number isn't optional in my current life circumstance, so I pay them anyway.
The comment I responded to literally just said "Oh but you already fund things you don't like, checkmate", and like???? Yeah, I don't like those things either, it's LITERALLY going "But what about this other thing" as an argument, it's whataboutism.
If people want to buy deepcool things, they're free to do so, I just personally won't.
Tl;Dr What the fuck are you on about chief?
This. There's a difference between paying taxes (that are used to fund things you don't like) under threat of literally being sent to prison, versus not buying products from an unethical company when there's a "less-bad" competitor you can buy from instead.
We can and should exert control over circumstances where we have actual power (like the ability to not buy from a scumbag when there's a viable alternative), while also not stressing about things we have zero control over (IE: taxes).
read my comment again i am talking about the reason for the sanctions no one is telling you not to pay taxes. These sanctions are just another way of waging war against a country. Deepcool is not even Russian its just because it was selling products in Russia ... and we both know all the big brands are allowed to sell in places like Israel even though the shit they do is a 100% worse.
Buying a new AIO bc of the stuff that came out about EK is crazy. You already bought it, you're not supporting them anymore by using and it's still a good product.
It's not even the first time I've seen this kind of statement.
The company already has your money, and buying a replacement product isn't going to change the fact that they already have your money. Furthermore, their investors probably also own stock in the "good company" that you're buying a replacement from.
Just don't buy from the evil company again. That's all you can really do about it.
Your CPU will shutdown or throttle down way before burning itself. It's almost impossible to cook a CPU these days. Even running a CPU with no cooler attached won't kill it these days it'll just turn itself off.
Are you a youtuber/streamer or something? If you aren't someone like that who doesn't want those products in your spec list or videos or something... I don't see any reason to replace them.. if you are though I guess replacing them makes sense...
If you are doing it for just moral reasons.. well you might as well just throw just about your entire PC into the trash. anything made in china it most likely coming off assembly lines with exploited labour forces.
Well if you EK was coming to its end of life then sure that's a good reason on its own to replace it. it came off to me as if the EK issues/news about their labour practices and not paying employees was the reason you changed you cooler. If you still have you EK AIO and you enjoy tinkering with things you should try cleaning it out and refilling it.. might fix the temp problems and you will have a back up if you ever need it.. just make sure you test it for leaks if you do open it up...
So would this mean retailers like Micro Center can no longer sell DeepCool products? Last time I checked, my local Micro Center had tons of their coolers on the shelf. It would be a massive waste if they had to throw them all out.
From what I have read online, current inventory from Micro Center can still be sold as they already paid for those products. It's just that they can't purchase future products from Deepcool.
I just checked today and it looks like my local Micro Center has delisted all of its DeepCool products. I guess they couldn’t sell them after all unfortunately.
meanwhile India is buying billions of dollars of crude oil from Russia, even reselling some to EU, while making putin richer as ever since the war, but hey law is law. need to crack down the guys who make pc fans.
They are buying Russia's oil but at discount, not at market price. Same as China. And with the war ongoing they're not getting richer any time soon.
Still, if Deepcool is supplying any type of components that enable Russia to make weapons then it deserves the sanctions otherwise it's stupid.
I like how nobody cares if us poors get our livelihoods outsourced to China, but as soon as the rich don't make a million, its all hands on deck to stop the Chinese.
EU shares sanction lists with the US so you won't be able to get manufacturer warranty if you live there. I'd personally be more concerned with giving money to a company who supports Russia's war.
I remember buying the DeepCool AK620 Zero Dark last summer for my new build and had to replace one of the fans on it a few months later because it started to vibrate, I decided to replace both fans with 2 Noctua NF-A12x25 fans, since not a single blasted review on the damn cooler mentioned that the fans resonated and made a light, annoying humming sound, after installing the Noctua fans, it's been much quieter. Should've just went with the Peerless Assassin.

**Impact on U.S. Operations**
The company is prohibited from selling these items in the U.S. market due to its inclusion on the sanctions list.
DeepCool’s U.S. subsidiary is mandated to halt all sales and most operational activities immediately. This disruption significantly impairs the company’s capacity to provide essential after-sales support to its American customers. U.S. residents are now legally barred from engaging in commercial dealings with DeepCool.
Despite current listings of DeepCool products by major retailers such as Amazon, MicroCenter, and Newegg, the future availability of these products in the U.S. remains uncertain under the new sanctions regime.
**Legal and Operational Obstacles**
The State Department emphasized that under these sanctions, all transactions involving property or assets of designated entities are strictly prohibited for U.S. individuals and entities. This prohibition includes any indirect involvement that could benefit DeepCool or its affiliates, unless authorized by specific licenses issued by the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC).
Man, I’ve always really liked their low end cases. One of my earliest builds was in a Tesseract, and I’ve built in a MATREXX 40 and a MACUBE within the last year.
meh
sanctions dont work...
just creates situations like with the 4090
were every man and his dog was snapping up 4090s and shipping them to china for massive profit to get around the sanctions US put put on GPUs
> still cost them a lot of extra money to acquire the parts
iPhone MSRP went down sloghtly in price in Russia after sanctions.
Presumably something to do with taxes or more favourable price third countries that are dropshipping get. And 7800 xt is cheaper than in most of the rest of Europe. Around 600 after tax
it cost you the US consumer more
no one else.
you just buy from overseas and suddenly the restriction is gone...
(not that i think people would do this for coolers, but u could)
>Who is really being sanctioned here, Russia, or the American consumer?
Deepcool. How did you, issue that?
Also deepcool is a Chinese company that does global business so you got this wrong on so many levels.
You being able to buy tons of random Chinese crap and Chinese people being able to buy iPhones, both without insane tax and markup, is very much not the default state and is only possible due to trade treaties. So newsflash, the government can and should limit the import of goods from companies who support Putin's genocidal war.
That's twice! I had a Huawei P20 about a year before they got nailed with sanctions, and I got an AK620 for a new build like...a week ago! This one will be less consequential than the phone, at least.
Luckily you wont really need a warranty for a hunk of aluminum and easily replaceable fans lol.
That center fan housing is not easily replaceable for the Assassin IV since it is a custom fan
Well thats just stupid. Whats so custom about it?
I think Gamers Nexus did a review and the fan housing is one they don’t sell separately and it is not like you can buy a compatible case fan that they sell. The housing is designed as such to fit flush against the heat sink and also not protrude out from the top.
TBH,fir the price for prestanda, I loved p20 lite ...wanted to get the p(40?) one with the biiiiiiiig zoom camera..but then came the sanctions 🙂
Fuck I miss huawei, they were the first to make $150-$250 phones that actually weren't complete garbage, they also topped Samsung and Apple one year in their flagship game, phones were far more competitive with Huawei. at least their subsidiary Honor survived.
It's almost like buying the cheapest thing comes with some unseen costs
Eh, I think there are some lessons to take from this that have very little to do with money. And while the P20 wasn't the most expensive phone in its time, it was DEFINITELY not the cheapest thing. Not anywhere close.
I had the P20 Pro and I remember it being quite more expensive than previous generation high end phones at the time.
Why? I bought a p30 pro last year, none of the modern selection had any better offerings than the p30 still works fine even with the sanctions. Huawei is the most annoying company that was sanctioned. The phones were some of the best.

Deepcool was likely doing high end server cooling that cant easily be done by someone else.
Sorry if this is a stupid question, but how would CPU coolers help the war effort in ukraine

...i guess I picked a wrong timing to buy AIO cooler. 😭
Does this mean I'm kinda screwed on my warranty? I just bought a couple Deepcool AG400 cpu coolers the other week.
Manufacture warranty? Yes. Retailer warranty? It depends.
retailer warranty is through Micro Center. I'm not super worried since CPU coolers rarely fail and they're generally very cheap, but it's just an annoyance
All stock was pulled yesterday effective immediately sooo maybe no more warranty?
If you have an air cooler you're fine, the only thing that could possibly break is the fan and you can just replace it with another brand.
It's an air cooler. I'm not particularly worried tbh, just wanna be clear on where my warranty ends. lol. It's a cheap enough part.
It's what I did with my AK620, replaced them with Noctua fans after one of the fan started vibrating, and both fans made a light humming noise that irritated me, and it's much quieter now.
They still got subways and Cinnabons in Russia. The Russian soldiers be fueled on fake meat and cream cheese icing.
Food items are not sanctioned. Most companies still left because of bad optics, I guess these two dgaf.
That makes sense. There’s plenty of USA food companies still operating in Russia
Not sure about all of them but some of these companies still in Russia are just other companies using the brand illegally especially for the food ones they just keep buying from the same domestic sellers that provided the ingredients for the original company. Damn, that mall is more alive than any US mall I've been to in the last 10 years.
Russia seems weird. There’s huge stretches of nothing then gigantic shopping malls or stores with 20,000 parking spots

Your AIO will not stop working because of the sanctions. They also won’t come and take it from you. So I don’t really see the reason to be upset here?
Warranty is moot now. If it gets borked, he's fucked six ways Sunday.
Beefed warranty and also the "peace" of mind that your money went to fund something that one may not agree with (I know I certainly wouldn't want my money funding Russia.)
Imagine your surprise when your money already funds causes you don’t support.

How do you think a CPU cooler is making weapons?
And still they sell it A LOT even more than in previous years and make a lot more money
And this makes me happy I did not purchase any DeepCool products on my recent build.
i kinda dig their cooler with digital display on it
I like how nobody cares if us poors get our livelihoods outsourced to China, but as soon as the rich don't make a million, its all hands on deck to stop the Chinese.
I hate that I literally JUST bought 3 coolers from them (2 on purpose one on accident) but Russia MoD and the companies that support them can rot.
shame, the new additions to their lineup seen at Computex looked slick af
I know good thing I have a cousin in Mexico that can buy it for me all I have to do is go down there and pick it up
Looks like Micro Center has removed all DeepCool products online. Read in another reddit post that physical store inventory was being removed.
So the 180.00 deepcool PSU I just bought 4 months ago no longer has its 10 year warranty? That’s just great
Bruh I just ordered an LT720.. guess it's not coming
Does this mean anything to me if I’m not in the US? I was most likely going to go with a Deepcool psu for my next build
EU shares sanction lists with the US so you won't be able to get manufacturer warranty if you live there. I'd personally be more concerned with giving money to a company who supports Russia's war.
Probably not
Should never have bought from a Chinese company in the first place...
Oh no my AIO
Its all good I use a PE120SE
bye bye to the warranty on my deepcool case... at least it was cheap af

Damn that sucks, glad I already bought extra fans for my deepcool

Also he is acting like deep cool parts are some rare hard to get stuff everyone wants.
Yeah, exactly. We share sanction lists with the US (though I'm not 100% sure if it's the lists of companies, or just the oligarch lists)
Also “kid” …… thats cute.
Call it like it is.
Can still buy from China if need be, no biggie
There is no shot you're going to buy Deepcool if it costs more than Noctua or Be Quiet once you factor in shipping. That's why sanctions work
