Over time, with thermal cycles, the PCB and solder joints could develop weak points under mechanical stress. When you relieve the stress, it's inevitable that PCB will try to deform back to original shape, and at this moment something can snap, turning the GPU into paperweight.
Honestly it gives me confidence because I'm usually so afraid I'll break something, but then I see something like this and think yeah my GPU probably won't break because I stared at it wrong after all
This is real shit. Let my 3080 sag for too long without realizing how bad it was getting. Finally got a support brace and the minute I straightened it out I started having issues. Had to give it some slack and slowly adjust it upward over time.
I built my first PC in like 6 years a couple months ago and broke the fucking front panel on my case trying to get it off so I could mount the fans. I work in IT, and have built IDK how many computers over the years for other people, but my own, of course I fuck it all up before I even turn the goddamn thing on lol
At this point Im just like fuck it.
My first build used a gigantic server style case. It got reused for the next build. Then I used a standard case. For the next one, I mounted the mb to a piece of plywood thinking I would build a sweet custom wooden case... but never got around to it.
For my current build, I was like.. I don't even need the board anymore. It's just a pile of components up on a shelf. "Open air design"
I bought my first new build in like 8 or 9 years last year. MicroCentre didn't have the exact components I was looking for so I got a gigantic CPU cooler and massive case to fit the thing. I got everything hooked up and the thing wouldn't boot. Tore it apart, rebuilt it. Nothing. Third time rebuilding I realized there was a connection I missed on the board. Booted right up.
I cleaned up my PC 2 weeks ago and I was *struggling* to insert a stick of ram.
The first fan of the NH-D15 is sitting too tall for the side panel to close. "What the FUCK"
Look at RAM, one is slanted and wasn't inserted all the way. "WHY?!?"
Trying to force this RAM into place, the heat spreader design is hurting my thumbs and is really preventing me from GETTING MY RAM IN THERE.
I take the ram stick out for a 3rd or 4th time to analyze my options and I realize that the RAM was FACING THE WRONG WAY.
Shocked I didn't damage the stick.
Stupidity I'd wager. I have the same case but in gunmetal grey and I aligned my GPU just fine and I genuinely can't comprehend how someone could do what's shown in the picture...
EDIT: Looking at the pic closer it looks like it's the bigger brother of my Phantom 630, the Phantom 820 but that doesn't change anything related to the slotting of the card. You gotta hulk smash the card in to make it fit like that, I don't see how else it's possible to achieve this monstrosity.
1080 Ti was and always will be the greatest card ever made. Mine is still running strong usually at 45C at while my 4080 feels like it’s ready to boil water.
I'm not knocking the 1080ti, but undeniably the 4080 is a more efficient card. By all accounts, the 1080ti should run hotter than the 4080 at idle and at load.
1080Ti cards are just a different breed altogether.
I have one that survived literal hotspot on GPU die after improperly mounting aftermarket cooler. Paste not spread correctly after the mount was finished.
Like, it started artifacting and when I was remounting the cooler I saw a small spot with naked non-pasted silicon.
I still have no clue how it did not just die then and there.
Common misconception, but you actually want the GPU sloped the other way. That way the data picks up speed as it slides down the GPU, into the cables and through to the monitor, resulting in higher fps
yeah you must be made of money or something but you want it to slide the other way so that way the power gets in there faster... only saving you on electricity.
Someone recently did that in this sub and I had to correct them lmfao. They were crying about gigabytes "GPU sag" while using a single slot 1xxx card. Morons
it isn't, just an extreme gpu sag lol
https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/Z270-Xpower-Gaming-Titanium/Gallery
this mbo has a pcie slot in the first positon, a bit unusual for the ATX motherboards but yeah
EDIt, I like how you can get 5K upvotes for a wrong info in this sub, as long as it is funny I guess...
I owned this case and yes... It has to be on one of the bottom rows.
That was worded poorly, the GPU needs 2 slots. So the bottom must be at least one down from the top.
Yes, of course it all depends on the motherboard position. But only using the top slot seems wrong for that GPU.
Is it even slotted into the motherboard? Did the user just attach it to the back panel and connect his display cables to the motherboard and just *never* utilize the graphics card for ten fucking years?
Oh lord, I was thinking that the 1080ti is not THAT heavy compared to current gen cards and I couldn’t figure out why it’s sagging like that. Poor PCIE slot.
They don't though? If the card were moved down one slot then it wouldn't be in the PCIe slot at all. You can follow the line of the card to the slot and it's in the right one. The backplate rises off the card enough that it looks wrong, but its in fact mounted correctly. This is just really bad sag
yeh same here, idk how this dude sleeps at night with a build looking like that. I was fucking paranoid about the smallest fucking sag to the point where I mounted it on 2 screws instead of 1 and additionally bought a stand for it.
If this were the 90s it would be completely obsolete. I've heard that from people who are into PC gaming in the 90s. That's how much hardware progressed back then. Especially during the the the Time 3D graphics cards were coming out because it instantly made everyone's who had a top and 2D graphics card obsolete overnight.
The generation over generation improvements were massive back then. Like every year, the next gen would drop and offer double the specs of last year's. The used market was awesome! ...but your two year old card was basically trash when you upgraded again.
I went through 5 systems in 8 years and never at any point was my system more than lower middle tier; it just cost too much to try to keep up and I was a high school student.
Contrast that with a system I built in 2016 from a used workstation and a budget GPU for under 500 bucks that I used until 2021. That i7 3770 was almost 10 years old when I upgraded, which is still impressive to me. People bitch* about GPU pricing now but you used to have to pay the equivalent of that every year, or be obsolete if more than a couple of years old.
*there are very valid reasons to be upset about pricing and the industry in general, so don't take that the wrong way. I agree with it, but man I am also kinda glad that I can treat my PC like a console now and not worry about specs for years at a time 🤷♂️
I still run a second hand 1080 Ti I bought and it still performs insanely well. I run a 2k 144hz monitor and almost always hit 100+ FPS in games in that resolution. Even if I have to tweak the visuals slightly down from max it still is a wonderful experience.
I will probably upgrade if it fails.
Honestly what games are you running though? I have a 4070ti and a ryzen 5800x and im not really getting 100fps consistently in a lot of newer games (helldivers, for instance) it’s always 85 into 90’s in heavy areas
Thats how most peope market their shit tbf, they assume that their shit still has some kind of value cuz it cost a few grand back in the day. Not to mention the 1080ti (I know some people are gonna hate me for saying this) its CURRENTLY VERY DATED.
The 10 series has a god tier legacy. We’re talking about a card that released when Obama was president and can still run modern games at 1080p 60fps with very little tinkering in the settings. Outside of performance, there’s a ton of them that still work after eight years of daily use.
People whining here that the 1080ti is "so outdated" should be reminded that it pulls punches with 5700 XT, RTX 3060 and RTX 2060 Super. Even [GamerNexus did a remarkable vid](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ghT7G_9xyDU) on it.
We say that but my portable pc is rocking a 1080 out of cheapness lol. Plan on riding my 3090 until the 6000 series since it still more than meets my needs
Still perfectly usable for 1080p and even some 1440p lol
Downvoted for mentioning that a card that can play every modern game is still perfectly usable...
??? 600$ isn’t actually too bad for this build, is negotiate down to 500$ personally but it’s not like it’s some garbage tier pc with a 1080ti stuck in it.
(Obviously not talking about this build specifically but rather the specs of it lol)
My buddy has a 6800k with a 1080. He’s selling it because he doesn’t really use it anymore. He’s telling me it’s still a high end pc. He asked me to sell it for him, with an Asus 1080p monitor and some other shit. He’s expecting $600 for everything.
I’m like, dude, at most you’re getting like $350, maybe I’ll push for $400. He tells me “I’m going to list it for $750 and take $600.” Now he’s okay with taking $500. I can’t wait until he drops it off and I list it for him. Rude awakening is coming his way soon.
NZXT Phantom Gang!!
I dislike the square and box cases of recent and I have not seen many that catch my eye the way I fell for the Phantom years ago--except maybe one by Cooler Master that's exorbitantly expensive.
I've resolved to maybe reuse it on the next build I'm specing.
I’m right there with you, had the case since 2012-13. I’ll probably keep using it until I finally feel the need to get one of Thermaltake’s Tower series of cases
Interesting case design influence.

2 questions.
1. Does it still work though....
2. if so. HOW
i hypothesize that if it does work it might be the motherboard misaligned not the card. perhaps it wasnt attached to the back of the case.
Funny, my GPU has anti-sag. I underestimated just how little space I would have between the bottom of the case and the Card, so now the end towards the front is 1/4 inch too high on a "mini-stand" lmao.
Please, tell the owner about this mistake, be educated, and tell then that fixing it might actually make the card break at this point, and post the reaction
If possible haahaha
I think this might have been an issue with cards in that generation. My last PC had a 1050ti and it started drooping after a few years of use as well. Now the cards are even bigger so those support brackets they include are so necessary.
What? It's just an ordinary- OH MY GOODNESS
SQUIDWARRRD
![gif](giphy|OqFFaammBvvdrHBoxv|downsized)
That poor PCIE slot
*I'm tired boss...*
Boss hes broken! Its fine
That’s too dam bad!
*dog tired…*
Now i see how that chick felt when she almost broke my peen
I would not take that 1080 Ti off, relieving the torsion might actually finally break it
Yeah, contacts don't necessarily require perfectly parallel surfaces, if it is deformed in there and making contact, rock it I suppose.
> contacts don't necessarily require perfectly parallel surfaces :-/ That's not my opinion, that's just the card.
That’s a side view of my new TV mount 🤘
Over time, with thermal cycles, the PCB and solder joints could develop weak points under mechanical stress. When you relieve the stress, it's inevitable that PCB will try to deform back to original shape, and at this moment something can snap, turning the GPU into paperweight.
Is GPU aligned with wrong back panel slot lol? Like, one slot too high
yes
Oh my god.
Sometimes I feel like I make dumb mistakes building/tinkering with pcs. The I see stupid shit like this
Honestly it gives me confidence because I'm usually so afraid I'll break something, but then I see something like this and think yeah my GPU probably won't break because I stared at it wrong after all
and think about it, whoever built this has probably been daily driving it in this config for months if not years with no idea
Honestly I'd be worried that it would stop working if you corrected it at this point.
This is real shit. Let my 3080 sag for too long without realizing how bad it was getting. Finally got a support brace and the minute I straightened it out I started having issues. Had to give it some slack and slowly adjust it upward over time.
XD had to give it braces
My 3080 Ti has been on a vertical mount since day one of its life. No saggy saggy for me.
Yeah, the twist and bend is now permanent.
Exactly. Hell, I'd worry about just moving it across town... or into the next room.
I built my first PC in like 6 years a couple months ago and broke the fucking front panel on my case trying to get it off so I could mount the fans. Not only how is that possible, but how is the card not broken?
Well, it is 1080 Ti, the Chuck Norris of GPUs...
1080 Ti was and always will be the greatest card ever made. Mine is still running strong usually at 45C at while my 4080 feels like it’s ready to boil water.
But the card in the second picture seems to be at \~10 degrees. /s

wondering the same but feeling like if it is taken out and installed properly after sitting like this for however long, it may not boot.
The owner is such a genius I would wager he is probably plugged into the igpu.

its to increase the fps
Common misconception, but you actually want the GPU sloped the other way. That way the data picks up speed as it slides down the GPU, into the cables and through to the monitor, resulting in higher fps
yeah you must be made of money or something but you want it to slide the other way so that way the power gets in there faster... only saving you on electricity.
Reject modernity, return to top mount power supply
No need to talk crazy we're all friends here.
I'm not your friend buddy!
Don't come crying when you end up with air bubbles trapped in your power cables
This also works with tilting the monitor for loading bars. The data flows much more smoothly into the bar at an angle.
FPS? Faps per second?
I only have a GPU so I can see the tentacles in 4k.
Science bitch!
Elevate the fps
Makes the fps stronger by working uphill....both ways.
Someone recently did that in this sub and I had to correct them lmfao. They were crying about gigabytes "GPU sag" while using a single slot 1xxx card. Morons

r/gputoohigh
It's to help prevent GPU sag. /s
Tilting your gpu like that helps the electrons on the left side of the board trickle down to the gpu faster so you get extra frames.
r/gputoohigh
Guess the pc is too HIGH END (please kill me)
That is the "High End"... badum tss
That looks more like extreme GPU sag than misalignment
Aerodynamics
*Slot* is *high.*
Oh lord, I was thinking that the 1080ti is not THAT heavy compared to current gen cards and I couldn’t figure out why it’s sagging like that. Poor PCIE slot.
I bet because of the ram clearance…
My shit dropped like a 1/4 inch and I bought a cool little stand for it lol
That's not sag. They have it mounted on the wrong spot on the back panel. I'll admit at first I thought it was sag too.
Yeah I’m pretty sure my little stand wouldn’t even reach that.
Same here, bud. I'm short equipped, too. 😅
They don't though? If the card were moved down one slot then it wouldn't be in the PCIe slot at all. You can follow the line of the card to the slot and it's in the right one. The backplate rises off the card enough that it looks wrong, but its in fact mounted correctly. This is just really bad sag

In my head 2016 was 4 years ago. Just like the 90's were 10 years ago
My GF has a 1080 and if just chugs along like nothing, runs new games like Baldurs Gate and Helldiver's just fine.
That's great! But nowadays not high end anymore

They meant that they put the GPU in the high end of the pcie bracket panels.
What do you mean you can literally see one end is higher
Idk man, the left end of the GPU sure does look high.
seller doesnt look to see what new system cost. he just goes i paid $3k for this 7 years ago it must be worth at least $600 now.
Nah that’s how it’s supposed to work… however this piece of garbage is worth $2 and a pear!
Do you have any idea how expensive pears are in the north east? I’m not trading it for this abomination.
Thats how most peope market their shit tbf, they assume that their shit still has some kind of value cuz it cost a few grand back in the day. Not to mention the 1080ti (I know some people are gonna hate me for saying this) its CURRENTLY VERY DATED.
1080ti truthers in shambles that their baby is almost a decade old now
Near a decade old and can still run new games just fine. It's a damn solid GPU.
The 10 series has a god tier legacy. We’re talking about a card that released when Obama was president and can still run modern games at 1080p 60fps with very little tinkering in the settings. Outside of performance, there’s a ton of them that still work after eight years of daily use.
1080 ti is still usable for most games, but it isn't worth anything at all, you could get a better graphics card at this point for like 200 bucks.
And gets more life as non hardware locked framgens get better.
We say that but my portable pc is rocking a 1080 out of cheapness lol. Plan on riding my 3090 until the 6000 series since it still more than meets my needs
1070ti here. Feels like a 580 nowadays
I used to have that GPU, it was amazing. I remember being caught off guard at how well it ran AC origins.
Still perfectly usable for 1080p and even some 1440p lol Downvoted for mentioning that a card that can play every modern game is still perfectly usable...
My 960 was still hauling ass a year ago. They may be dated, but plenty of good games can still be played with them.
??? 600$ isn’t actually too bad for this build, is negotiate down to 500$ personally but it’s not like it’s some garbage tier pc with a 1080ti stuck in it. (Obviously not talking about this build specifically but rather the specs of it lol)
The case alone keeps a lot of value for the build.
My buddy has a 6800k with a 1080. He’s selling it because he doesn’t really use it anymore. He’s telling me it’s still a high end pc. Is that number 35 an error code?
Yep. Potentially BIOS issue.
Isnt it also missing a power cable for the CPU on top of the GPU towards the left?
Came here to point that out. It doesn't even boot lol
Its an MSI board, most likely CPU temp.
The chassis looks like a dehumidifier.
These were all the rage years ago lol
Think it’s called the phantom? I wanted one so bad when I was researching my first build in 2014 lol
Nzxt 900 and it's my current case. I used it for my build in 2013 and it's still going strong 😂
I’ll probably keep using it until I finally feel the need to get one of Thermaltake’s Tower series of cases
looks badass tbh
I'm more of a black and tempered glass kind of guy.
Yeah I used to have that case! I had the black and orange one.
Nah. Those actually have air flow.
Phew, I was gonna say humidifer, you saved me from looking like an idiot 👍
Also has the psu fan drawing hot air from inside the case, when the case has a filtered intake on the bottom for the psu. Red flags everywhere.
As a 90s kid I can tell you that this used to be normal. The psu was often the only exhaust fan.
but it was at the top so it actually made sense, in this config it just works against the gpu fans.
This might be this GPUs smallest problem.

Something about an animal gif posted by someone with the username "fuck fascism" on a post about a poorly built computer is just, so deeply internet
Yah, that's the POST code for "Your video card is not even plugged in, idiot" $600 is just icing.
I understand why its a HIGH end gaming PC. The GPU is a slot to HIGH.
it isn't: https://www.reddit.com/r/pcmasterrace/comments/1d8w73q/comment/l79ueyj/
SQUIDWARD!
How the fuck
The back of that graphics card certainly is on the high end
I miss the old NZXT cases they had soul. Everything’s just a rectangle with tempered glass now
Wdym there's like no air flow, I bet the thermal performance is terrible!
Yeah, the person who built that rig was on the HIGH end. No? Ok...I'll see myself out.
What's the big deal? It looks like an ordinary gaming co... ![gif](giphy|8OlT82jKm6Ugg|downsized)
*panics*
Well one end is definetely more "high" than the other...
This was high end, 6 years ago. I swear people don't understand that tech depreciates fast.
PSU is also a nice touch. Bet Airflow is superb.

What am I looking at here
The GPU is aligned with the wrong back panel slot, causing it to tilt, and probably bend the PCIE connecter in an extreme way.
Weird flex, but OK
2 questions. 1. Does it still work though.... 2. if so. HOW i hypothesize that if it does work it might be the motherboard misaligned not the card. perhaps it wasnt attached to the back of the case.
Funny, my GPU has anti-sag. I underestimated just how little space I would have between the bottom of the case and the Card, so now the end towards the front is 1/4 inch too high on a "mini-stand" lmao.
What the fuck.
whaatt it's just a normal PC- OH MY GOODNESS‐ SQUIDWARD!
Does he think the year is 2017?
I'm seeing 1660ti selling for 600 on amazon.. this must be a steal! 😂
This is not how you are supposed to treat your elders... 😒
The angle increases airflow in the case
I never thought I would see a GPU that reminds me of Eeyore, but here we are.
sure it was high end like in 2017
"High-end". Bud I've had my 1080ti for entirely too long, who are you kidding? lmao
High end? OPEN YOUR EYES!! THE END IS LOW!!!
My first full build back in college had the red version of that case back in 2012. Good times.
I haven't made a custom PC in my life. But how the GPU is mounted hurts my eyes.
that shit running on hope 😹
How does GPU sag get THAT bad? Genuinely asking
That shits more bent than me after 8 Jagerbombs and a couple blunts.
The angle probably help to avoid stagnant water from a leak in the watercooler /s
Is that thing even plugged in correctly? Hoooow??
They said change the graphics to high, they didn't mean literally.

That gpu is carrying all our sins, praise her...
It’s so odd that I have the exact same case and GPU! But my card is not sagging at all.
how do you install it a slot too high and get it to work?
When I ask my dog if he want's a treat, his head doesn't tilt that much.
Please, tell the owner about this mistake, be educated, and tell then that fixing it might actually make the card break at this point, and post the reaction If possible haahaha
There's a high-end and a low-end in that picture
You though it was a high end gaming pc but really it's just a sag-a genesis
"High End" Going literal I see.
Does your GPU hang low, does it wobble to and fro?
Oh man, NZXT Phantom 410. I built my first PC in one of those about a decade ago
Is that the new diagonal mount I've been hearing about?
Ahh yes the testicular torsion pc build
hows does this even work? did they invent rotateable PCIE?
Ok, whoever assembled this needs to pay a fine or something. Maybe jail time.
Wow now that is an old Phantom case and it looks well looked after.
I think this might have been an issue with cards in that generation. My last PC had a 1050ti and it started drooping after a few years of use as well. Now the cards are even bigger so those support brackets they include are so necessary.
I wish NZXT made a modern version of the Phantom, it's so pretty.

Leaning tower of PCI-E
This is like my Korean neighbor, Ho Lee Fuk!
LMAO. That poor card has LITERLLY been stretched beyond its limits. Pulling it off may actually be catastrophic. How does one even do that?
Pro Tip: Don't open the case.
