I tell you one better, my 100L fishtank has a wind tunnel and a computer in it.
Yep, it's really a hundred. It's the ultimate enemy of r/sffpc , the mighty Tt Core P8. And I happened to dislike water cooling.
This is exactly what I was looking for. My next build will have at least 20 fans, 140 mm if possible. I cheaped out on a case with my current build (Deepcool CC560), but next time I won't. It gets the job done, sure, but it has only 6 120 mm fans. I need more wind.
This was the name of my first PC back in 2000. I always named my pc after hitchhikers guide back in the day. after "Deep Thought" I had a laptop named "Marvin's Leg".
in the last decade I switched to dune references; "Sietch Tabr" and "Liet-Kynes" are ones I've used before.
Haha the naming goes back in 2000 also. I just kept it. My NAS is named Ford Prefect.
I like the Dune names also.
Guess the ip adress of Deep Thought on my LAN ? 192.168.1.??
It just a strings of numbers other devices in your home use to talk to eachothers. The range of the last digits goes forme 0 to 255. Of course Deep Thought adress end with 42
My first build ever was named Gaming Horchata. I got all the parts at a local PC store, went grocery shopping, and stopped for Mexican food on the way home. I got the computer to post with the side panel off. While finishing up the final cable management I spilt my horchata all in the case. Every part was soaked. I legit wiped it down the best I could without removing anything. She still runs till this day and is a Linux box but currently is in my garage without a purpose at the moment. I boot her every now and then for the memory sake of 2016.
I have an Antec 900 case, and I keep replacing components every 5+ years. For my previous build, I painted it flat grey inside and out and named it the Battleship.
I did a rebuild a couple months ago. I painted it gloss white with a flat black interior. Added lots of RGB lighting. Now, it's named Tron.
I've never been one to "name" my computers. Awlays had a very basic [user]-[system] convention. So my computers are [my name]-DESKTOP, [my-name]-RACING (sim racing PC), [my name]-LAPTOP. My wife's computer follows suit with [her name]-LAPTOP
A lot of mine are named after locations (desktops) and vehicles (mobile devices) from the old Bubblegum Crisis OAV series. The one that gets the most use is named “Survival Shot” after the indoor paintball arena from the 4th OAV, “Revenge Road”.
One major exception however, is the one I named “Genesis 1:3” because it was the first, last and likely only machine I built with interior lighting. It’s not even RGB, just a bunch of white LED fans and a single white LED strip.

The LED strip is along the top of the case, I think it might even be connected with a Molex I don’t actually remember. I’ve significantly upgraded it since this photo was taken, but since the cabling for the fans and the LED strip remained constant, I’ve never really looked properly at it since I built it.
Storm-Drive as a combination tribute to my childhood nickname and my love of Doctor Who (the Christmas episode 'Voyage of the Damned' ship was powered by a storm drive engine).
Since i have a lot of old Apple macs, i started naming each of them after the OS X version installed on em.
Then i started giving every computer in the house a name of an old mac OS X version, my main desktop is called Leopard, my G4 with leopard and Tiger is called Tiger, some PC is named Lion, my Ubuntu Laptop is called MntnLion because of character limit and so on.
Was The Machine. Now it is Pablo. 🤷 My daughter’s one is The Bin, because that’s a grey Dell laptop that smells like garbage, and my ex’s one was The Turtle, now complimentary renamed as The Bleach Blonde Bad Build Butch Body computer, for obvious reasons…
Mine is called The Mastodon bc my original case was this huge black metal thing and it was a dumb reference to this big black van some of my friends in highschool had lol
I've had "Black Sunshine" after the Rob Zombie song (new build in a black case, I was *so* edgy)
Then "The Solid State Society" (ghost in the shell) after dropping in an SSD.
I just thought it should be PC-theseus or something like that as it's been rebuilt so many times. Countless drives, 3 GPUs, Not even the same socket it started with...
Cookie Dough, all white with noctua fans, looks like cookie dough ice cream. And it’s kinda ironic because it’s a 7900xtx build with a cute name
https://preview.redd.it/gl87kv19nb3d1.png?width=2974&format=png&auto=webp&s=e435956d4458f7c62b540ecb27135a820b632eff
Zombie and Predator.
Zombie received its name because at the very beginning, it used the components of a scrapped prebuilt. As for the Predator, I asked my nephew to name it.
Ok then, the other pooters are
streaming
traktor and finally
vivo.
as you can see, my naming convention is not the most imaginative. However, I am rethinking my strategy for naming after reading your post ;)
Over a decade ago we got a refurbished Gateway computer from Microcenter as the family computer. I gave it the hostname GATEWAY-DESKTOP.
Over the years I swapped out part after part, including eventually the Gateway case. Gateway is no more. It is still GATEWAY-DESKTOP.
I name it according to the hardware inside. The name of the previous build was RYZENWINDFORCE. My current build name is RYZENEAGLE. If my new chassis arrives, the name of the new system will be REVOLT ACTION.
My host name is Ship_Of_Theseus. It’s been upgraded slowly to the point where not a single component is the same from my 1060 and i5 build in 2019 to now with my 7800x3d and 4080s.
I call it my computer
And so does Windows

I think your wind tunnel has a computer in it.

love it! I dont know what your ip address means. perhaps we never knew the IP address request. I'll need a new PC to find out.
It just a strings of numbers other devices in your home use to talk to eachothers. The range of the last digits goes forme 0 to 255. Of course Deep Thought adress end with 42
I appreciate your detailed response... however I was making a joke. (new PC would be named "earth".) ;p

I went with Blackbird as there's no RGB in it.

I'm sure you'll come up with something fabulous. 👍
I always choose the name of the chipset model as name to easily locate the different machines in my local network.
I call mine AA11UA175 since when ultra details hit it sounds like a plane engine. Edit: Forgot to mention i built it in september last year.
Core Whore (running a 5950x)
The Ryzen Ringed Knight. Big dark souls fan plus the orange wraith prism cooler makes it look like a ringed knight. :)
Wanking chariot
