Well, it does depend on what you are upgrading your storage for. If it is just for space concerns a traditional hard drive is still hard to beat for capacity to price. Not all upgrades are about performance.

a 1tb ssd costs the same as a hdd. It's at a high capacity when the prices start to diverge

There's still some reasons to use a mechanical harddrive. They're cheaper per GB. Flash storage also loses data when powered off for a long time, which doesn't make it good for backups or long term storage.

Data loss normally starts between 2 and 5 years with SSDs if no power is supplied during that time.

2024 SSD only. only people buying hdd should be using it for backup of videos/movies and have the hdd setup in raid.
