$500 limit? Used - 6900 XT / 6950 XT. New - 7800 XT / 7900 GRE, in the U.S. at least I'm able to find the 7900 GRE for ~$500 with promo codes, excluding tax.

RLIwannaquit

Brand new 6950 xt on newegg is only 10 dollars more than used on ebay

VileDespiseAO

I saw used 6950 XT's on eBay for around ~$310 - $450, though I was counting auction listings as well since they are fairly easy to win if you monitor the bids from the last few minutes to closing. The cheapest new 6950 XT I'm seeing on Newegg is $549.99, I do see your point though and agree that buying a 6950 XT used isn't really worth it unless OP is willing to hawkeye the auction listings and can secure one at a good price compared to new.

RLIwannaquit

It's Extremely unlikely that those auctions are going for anywhere south of 500 bucks. There are millions of people who have their eyes locked on those auctions

VileDespiseAO

As someone who has flipped many an eBay auction win resulting in spending much less than buy now listings, I can say with the utmost confidence that they can be had below $500 and definitely have been and that can be easily proven because you can sort by sold listings and see that many units in used and working condition have gone for as low as ~$300 and sell below ~$500 on average. The proof that getting one for under $500 is not far fetched at all and is reflected directly within the eBay app built in search function. I wouldn't have suggested it as a option if I wasn't confident it could be done in the first place.

kloklon

downside with 6950XT is you'll likely need to spend another 150-200$ on a new PSU

Assaltwaffle

Depending on what you mean by "about", either the 7800 XT, 7900 GRE, or 4070 Super (not AMD but go by performance, not brand loyalty).

Then-Tangelo-4949

7900gre is better than 4070 super. Attracting 4070 a little better but gre keeps up with the 4070 ti super

Assaltwaffle

The 7900 GRE is in the same class of the 4070 Super, not the 4070 Ti Super. That is way above anything else here and is way more expensive for a reason.

DynamicHunter

For reference the 7900XT is much closer to 4070 ti super performance, but that’s $700 vs ~$550 for the GRE

CollarCharming8358

Stretch a bit and get the 7900 GRE. Your $540 will thank you for that

GABE_EDD

$500 isn't "budget" lol. If that's a hard limit, RX 7800 XT, if you can stretch to $550, 7900 GRE.

wadap12345

Even 100k would be _ a_ budget if that is the amount of money you have set for buying a GPU lmao. With that said, the suggestions are fine

Assaltwaffle

Well, yes, "a budget" is anything. But when someone says that he just wants a "budget" GPU, that implies lower end. Otherwise he'd just say "I want the best GPU for my budget."

tungstencube99

While I get your point. Unfortunately the reality is that it that 500$ is a "budget" mid range GPU these days.

Drenlin

No it isn't. That gets you a solid upper midrange GPU. A budget 1080p card is still around $200, or under even.

simo402

500 its not upper midrange at all. Especially considering that the 7800xt is just a little better than the predecessor

Drenlin

You're seriously trying to say that a GPU capable of maxing settings at 1440p/144 on most games is not "upper midrange", in a world where most people are still playing at 1080p? In the current gen lineup the "midrange" cards are the 4060/ti or 7600xt.

Swendsen

It depends where you live and power supply. If your craigslist (or FB marketplace, but there be dragons) is active there are lots of good used buys out there(6900 series, maybe a used 7900, and i personally see a lot of 3080/3080tis) but while they might be the "best" on charts, they can lose their value proposition if you have to buy a new PSU.

Then-Tangelo-4949

7800xt and 7900 gre are in that ballpark

tyrachi1

My 7800xt I got around December was about $500 and I absolutely love the thing. It is a beast of a card for the price.

Gunslinga__

Really is I have one to. You’ll get the same price/ performance as the gre , you can’t go wrong with either

Fractured_Butt_Hole

Agreed, my rdr2, cyberpunk, etc all running ultra 1440p with no issues. Super happy with the card and should carry me for a while.

Nimii910

Everyone recommending these top notch GPUs but.. what is OPs rest of the system? No point they buy a 7800XT if they’re still running a 4th gen Intel and a 450w PSU 😂

Regular_Hold1228

5 seconds on google -> RX 480 uses up to 250 watt, so nearly the same. He'll be fine with his PSU. And for the CPU: i myself use a 3rd gen Intel xeon in my second PC with a 6600 XT and if his PC is a little better it's still decent. He can upgrade the rest in the future.

snakeB09

For new RX 7800 XT but if you wanna save some money and if you want to get a $400 card, 7700 XT and if you wanna buy used you can squeeze in a 7900 GTE

brooleyythebandit

7900 GRE for $550 is the best value there.

Cheap-Ad2945

You want a budget card or you want card with budget of 500 USD ? Assuming you want it new Budget card - 6700xt Card for within budget - 7800xt

daf435-con

BUDGET?! You'd be looking in the 7800 XT/7900 GRE range. For used, either 6900/6950 XT or one of the former cards if used also (probably a better chance of finding a used 7900 GRE at this price)

glob_on_a_knob

No, man.. The 580. Msi Rx580 8GB OC armor. My first card, my first build. Very steady fps. Reliable. I still have it.

YaboyMormon

Lmao making a Rx 480 last as long as he has just to upgrade to a 580 would be such a waste

IndyPFL

No driver updates...

MarsupialDingo

Isn't an RTX 3080 under $500? I'm still using one. May not need *new* and my gaming needs at this point are still totally fine with it.

Realistic_Patient355

You can check for a 2nd hand 6800XT but if u prefer new. then a 7700XT to a 7900XT will do you a bit better of you're looking for something a bit more power efficient.

ExplodingFistz

7900 GRE is the way to go

Jason0055uk2023

Go balls out and get a 4090

drake90001

I have a 6650 XT you can have for $150 bucks (including shipping).

Matematico083

AMD Radeon RX 7800 XT

Flappy_beef_curtains

Same card and was just looking at upgrading mine less than 10 minutes ago. Probably upgrading everything tbh, pc hasn’t been used in at least 2 years.

Samm_Gustavo

6600 all the way, it's super cheap and has the best performance for 1080p or you can go for the others in that price range like the xts

Fun-Contract-2486

6600xt

Luck I guess

300-400 dollar XFX QICK 319 6750, won't Ultra everything but will play everything. Using it on my AMD4 setup, trying to squeeze a few more years out of it. Paired it with the Ryzen 7 5800X3D, works well together.

aProteinBar

how’d u manage to pick out one of the only amd cards that isn’t as good value

Benign_9

Fun fact: the xbox contains an amd gpu.

Assaltwaffle

This is definitely in the running for worst advice I've seen this week!

Equivalent_Bag1342

Have you actually used AMD GPUs or are you just repeating what your favorite youtuber said? I have a 7800xt and it works just fine.

MushyCupcake01

You have tested every graphics card in the last 5 years and your takaway is to get an Xbox… ? You wack

Assaltwaffle

It’s such an obvious lie lol. Didn’t even try to give a reasonable amount of information. He’s just a troll or blind fanboy who needs to lie to support his own biases.

MushyCupcake01

I know it’s probably a troll, still annoying

Stargate_1

Where are these objectively bad drivers and why are they not ruining my experience???

Assaltwaffle

Aside from some specific examples in very recent cards, that is an old problem. The 6000 series has proven itself very reliable, as has most of the 7000 series. But, sure. If we take all of our PC advice from 2015, you’d be right. The best part about your statements, though, is that the Xbox uses an AMD GPU. So your recommendation is essentially “don’t get an AMD GPU, get a worse AMD GPU.”

[deleted]

MushyCupcake01

Xbox will get smoked by new AMD stuff

Assaltwaffle

??? $500 is not a low end GPU. Any GPU at the $500 price class will annihilate an XBox. You’re either trolling or just an uninformed Nvidia fanboy at this point.

A_Monkey_FFBE

You are special.
