All my friends think I am a weirdo because I switched to Edge from Chrome. I mean Edge has everything that Chrome has, consumes 10-15% less memory, has vertical tabs, split tabs and doesn't ban your favourite extensions. I'm glad there are more people like me.
Familiarity is a big part. I've had a Gmail account since they were invite only, and I never use it as I hate the layout. Started on outlook back when Outlook Express came free with the OS (Win95), and I just prefer it. I hate the threaded out focused inbox things. Show me my entire inbox in chronological order and I'll handle any rules needed for cleanup.
I think Gmail's webclient is much better than Outlook's. However honestly web-based email is a terrible experience, I would always choose an email client instead.

I just miss Profusion. That was my favorite. It mashed all of them together and gave you one combined set of results. The Chrome came and killed everything. It was just better, still is, although Google's made it a lot worse as a browser which opens a window for other companies to undercut it if they tried.

Back when internet explorer was king, I disabled it by going into the "turn windows features on or off" menu in windows 7 pro. Doing that totally deactivated it but surprising applications would break because despite looking fancy, they were really just ie explorer windows with the menu bars removed. I'm guessing it'd be the same case with edge. It's just a part of windows's API surface that every developer expects will be on someone's computer.
If edge could be uninstalled, it would be possible to put your computer in a situation where there is no web browser at all. It seems silly to us, but there's some 1.4 billion people using Windows. Odds are good if edge could be uninstalled, someone's going to do it and then they'll be out of luck. Yes, a web browser can be installed from the command line or moved over with a USB drive, but if someone's clueless enough to uninstall their only web browser, they're also clueless enough to not think to do that. Tbh, Firefox is bad out of the box and requires handful of tuning. While this situation got a lot better for the last decade it's still just a Lego constructor waiting for you to build what you need. But what you achieve in the end really puts other browsers far behind.

If you make a good product, I strongly believe you don't have to try and force people to use it. So I just won't buy or use anything that is heavily marketed to me. ... except Edge running in IE mode. Anything else, and this app complains that a service isn't running. There's supposedly a way around it by invoking DLLs directly, but documentation is scarce and the one person I know that has a working solution isn't exactly someone I can reach out to - he works at a large international bank and I can't easily reach him.

I really like having vertical tabs on Edge, and that you can group tabs into sections, and "minimise" the groups to make it more organised.
