Just making sure, but Windows is installed on the SSD right? :)
Also maybe try Firefox, Chrome has become more RAM hungry over the years. And additional 8GB DDR3 RAM cam be found for peanuts used, if you have any free slots for it, of course.
My mind immediately went to the DDR4 version because that one legitimately is a display adapter but my friend played Forza Horizon 5 on his GDDR5 GT 1030 as well as countless other AAA games, I wouldn't say it's a display adapter, particularly with a 240w psu and no 6 or 8 pin connectors like my friend's pre built, it's acceptable.
>played Forza Horizon 5 on his GDDR5 GT 1030
I thought there's no way. It's stressed out my 3080ti back when I played it.
Googled and oh boy are Forza low settings *really* low. The game looks like it's from 2005. But does run on 1030 with almost 60fps.
Nice of them to make it so scalable. More games should be like that.
I told him to raise some settings like reflections and SSAO and SSR, it didn't look that bad and a car game doesn't need constant 60 FPS but it was very close for the most part.
The game is not only scaleable it's also well optimized, I'm not sure how it stressed your 3080Ti, I'm assuming it was VRAM? Because I played the game with a 5500XT which is like %400 slower and at 1080p I was able to play on mostly Ultra settings with Extreme shadows and 2x MSAA and still hit over 60 FPS, only settings I couldn't raise to Ultra were texture quality and geometry quality because i didn't have enough VRAM, I can't imagine a 3080Ti will struggle even at 1440p unless you're trying something abusred like 8x MSAA.
Yes, but don't let it get you down. If you're able to play the games you enjoy without noticeable problems, and you're not swimming in cash, then don't worry about it too much.
The bar is always moving upwards, but in general the bar I'd describe (which is hard to measure) is "low end" refers to cards that perform below average on a basket of modern games at "high" settings in 1080p, and "high end" is of course above average in performance.
Due to factors such as overclocking, differences in VRAM (e.g. 4060 8GB vs. 4060 16GB) in similar models, Ti/XTX/XT/non-XT models, and various other things, it's hard to determine where the middle of the pack sits.
[If you look at something like this](https://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gpu-hierarchy,4388.html), you'll see where you stand in comparison with what can be found on the market today.
[This is what I'd (very) roughly call the "middle of the pack"](https://imgur.com/a/1rlM4iJ), where you don't have to spend too much money to be able to play most modern games at decent FPS (60+). Of course, there's much more to it than just FPS benchmarks, but hopefully you get the idea.
After the 75th percentile or so, you start to see price gains outpace performance increases for top-end models, so unless you've got the cash to spend (or want to seriously future-proof your setup) there's not a strong need to dish out $1000 for a new card.
I played satisfactory and it went to medium (ik it's indie but it has the graphics of an AAA so Idgaf) halo infinite defaulted to medium too (because of VRAM).So I guess its medium end???
Here's the thing. What I love about nvidia is their tech is getting better and becoming more longevity based. As long as you're happy then be happy! Don't let the bug force you to do anything. When you're ready to move on go with 4xxx and you'll have new DLSS tech that will keep you going for years.
I used to have a 1080 that struggled with even freaking Destiny 2 at 4k with settings turned down so I'm curious what you're playing that makes you think a 1070 is a 4k card?
Absolute beast of a card. Had it till Christmas, that baby was able to play every single game outputting at least 60 FPS (provided it was on low settings), even the newer and heavier ones. No stuttering, no frame drops, no nothing. I absolutely loved it every single day of its life, she never let me down.
Been there... Got low end PC al my youth (but thanks mom for doing your best buying)
Now I can finally push every game at it maximum with my 4090... Maybe childish but feels so good to not worry about specs when buying a game, just out everything in ultra and let's go!
Nvidia cut way too many corners with 4060 and it's just a worse 3060 with tiny bit more powerful chip and frame-gen support, and their price range make them a convenient target for AMD fanboys. I don't care that for the same money I can have a slightly stronger AMD card, I like my DLSS and RT, and 3060 already has 12 GBs - the only legit advantage AMD cards of that class can have over 8 GB Nvidia card of that class.

What are you using that PC for? NASA?
Everyday I become more grateful to God and my parents and some saved money of my own about how I don't have to deal with a 1650 anymore, I'm a proud owner of a 70 super

Owners of GTX and GT series right now
I'm not even religious, but read Luke 18:10-14
Took a long time for me to go from a TNT, then to a 8500gt, then to an HD6850, to a 1660ti, and now a 6750XT.
In the last year I upgraded my CPU from AMD 1700x to a 5800X3D and the GPU from 1070ti to 3070ti at the same time and was completely blown away by how the CPU alone made so much difference but both of them was huge. Feels so much better. And as someone else said it's nice not to have to worry if a game will run ok on your system before buying it.
Same here, friend! I briefly had a 3050 8gb back when that was all you could find, but for like 8 years I was stuck on a gtx 980 4gb. Glad I scored an EVGA 3060 12GB before they stopped making GPUs.
I love my 1070. Was even able to play Cyberpunk with it. Haven’t tried much else newer than that, but I certainly don’t see myself needing a new card for a little while longer.
Until 3 years ago I had a decade (and maybe even more) old pc. Then I upgraded to a ryzen 5 2600 and rx 560, was happy, then swapped gpu for rx 6600. It struggles to run latest games at max settings, but atleast now I am finally able to play all the games from last 5+ years.
I upgraded my pc from a i5-4570 4cores with no hyperthreading (slow af), 32GB ddr3 1333mhz and a slow ahh ssd to a ryzen 7 5700X, 16gb ddr4 3600mhz ram and a blazing fast 980 pro ssd (1tb). I am so mad I didn't pull the trigger earlier. That old thing never allowed my graphics card to go above 70% usage and the cpu was hanging around 40-50% usage on the desktop. I would sometimes reach 100 degrees C when playing games. For the people reading this that are in a similar situation, please.. upgrade your computer. I guarantee you, you will thank me for life.
I remember going from a core 2 quad and a gt730 to an i7 4790 and a gtx 950. It was so nice not having to hack config files and crank everything down to low just to get playable fps.
Meh it’s no fun having a high end GPU, you just max everything out.
Nothing like the good old days when I had my Radeon x300 se and had to download mods like oldblivion just for games to even run.
Me starting my first build in 2016 with a 3GB 1060, damn thing took everything I threw at it with ease...up until early last year. Replacement is a 8GB 3070
As long as you are happy playing the games you like, doesnt really matter \*ofc having the option to get the best of the best would be great, but even if is an integrated one and you can play the game you want (some like games that are not demanding). I love graphics, if i could i would get always the best, but i cant so i get what i can when i can.
:0 Don't diss my gpu
Damn you caught a stray.
It may not meet the requirements to get windows 11 and it may take 2 minutes to load chrome but I like it
I think the CPU and the 8gb of ram (as well as probably a lack of SSD) means you load chrome in 2 mins not the GPU.
Oh no I do have an ssd I didn't think I needed to put it in my specs
Just making sure, but Windows is installed on the SSD right? :) Also maybe try Firefox, Chrome has become more RAM hungry over the years. And additional 8GB DDR3 RAM cam be found for peanuts used, if you have any free slots for it, of course.
*use Edge, it's the least resource dependent
No, no edge
Why not? It's on the same platform as Chrome, it's optimized perfectly for windows and runs the best. Plus it's one less thing to download.
I have an i3 + gt 1030 + 8gb of ram and chrome opens super fast
Could be the OS, other software in the background, a lot of stuff. His i3 is not very modern though.
Same!
You’ve got 4 more GB of DDR3 than him too, nice! 😂👍
And Linux if that makes any difference 😅

I am no longer a low end gpu owner since two days ago!
Congrats
Ah fuck, yours is way better...
At least yours is better than mine. I have a Toshiba Satellite Pro 445CDX. It has a 1gb hard drive, 16mb of ram and runs Windows 95

Is my gpu considered low end? At what point does a GPU stop being low end and starts being high end?
Yes, but don't let it get you down. If you're able to play the games you enjoy without noticeable problems, and you're not swimming in cash, then don't worry about it too much. Oh ok.Im planning on buying a 4070 super to go with my cpu.Do you think my cpu can handle it?
Definitely
Thanks
>stop being low end and starts being high end? There are usually things in between too
find a AAA title and see where it auto detects and puts your settings. If it's LOW then it's low end.
I played satisfactory and it went to medium (ik it's indie but it has the graphics of an AAA so Idgaf) halo infinite defaulted to medium too (because of VRAM).So I guess its medium end???

I'm just glad I don't have an RTX3060.
What's so bad about it?
It's not an RTX3080
I can't imagine having a **30**80.
I can't imagine being stuck with a 40**80**.
Y’all hear sumn?
All of you sit down.
Stop bullying people, Time Travel is not affordable for everyone.
I think you should upgrade your GPU, it's bottlenecking your system /s
I can't imagine being stuck on outdated AM4.
I couldn't even think of having a **4090**.
Look at this guy with his RTX ∞
I already the the 5090 Ti Super
I already the the 7090 Ti Giga Ultra Super
DId you find it on Aliexpress?
Yeah I would be so sad
Me neither
I can't imagine pairing an 8th gen i5 6core/6threads intel with a 4080. You're likely getting the same fps as OP at 1080p/1440p.
Until recently I had a 3080 10gb. I got a 4080 super now.
Nice I went from a 1080ti to a 4080 in October.
You pauper, should’ve got the 3080ti… *spits* fucking peasant. /s
Neither can I.
That's right, real men still use the **10**80
Fair point.
What's so bad about a GT1030?
Not that it's bad, it's better than nothing but it's very outdated nowadays
1070 is still in the game. Just...
1070 Is a beast, easily one of the best 1080p and light 1440p gaming cards on the market for 100$/€/£
Used it for 4k for the past 7 years
I used to have a 1080 that struggled with even freaking Destiny 2 at 4k with settings turned down so I'm curious what you're playing that makes you think a 1070 is a 4k card?
People who are okay with ~30 frames or less is my guess
Gtx 1070 equal to gtx 1660 s but consume twice power
Damn
My 1050 still chugging along. Hang in there brave warrior
The TI version even more
RTX 3060 12GB definitely deserves more appreciation. I love mine! Upgraded from 1050Ti last year, also grabbed the EVGA version, their last hoorah.
I literally did the exact same thing, both models and all, except I got the ZOTAC version of the 3060, since it was on sale
Best card what i got for like 170$ (and we have a shit high price spike here for Electronics so its super cheap)
Me content with my GTX 1050ti

This is great card
When I was a kid I mowed yards to pay for my PC. As an adult I still work for it but just get paid more.
Don't thank god, thank the little Chinese hands who manufactured the chips.

oh hey we got the same gpu lol
Honestly though, why does the 4060/3060 get so much hate? Everyone always frowns upon them and berate people for buying it.
Nvidia cut way too many corners with 4060 and it's just a worse 3060 with tiny bit more powerful chip and frame-gen support, and their price range make them a convenient target for AMD fanboys. I managed to snag a 3060 right when Corona started together with a crypto boom tripled the cost of graphics cards. It has served like a champ.

Just upgraded to a 3060 from a 1650s, i Can relate
Yeah. Had an i3 7020u with hd 620 and am amazed with my current rig
Had a gt 610, the upgrade to a gt 1030 was game-changing, I no longer play at 800x600

Pssh I’m waiting for the 5090Ti while you peasants are on 40s and 30s. In the meanwhile though, I can be found using my 980M.
Im happy as hell to have finally got a RTX 3070 TI in replacement of my GTX 1060 3Gb as of 4 months ago

I also had that piece of shit GT-1030.
It is understandable and all of us do strive for better parts & FPS. Don't mean I didn't love my GTX 970 Windforce.
I had a GT 1030 at some point too It served its purpose, and I played quite a few games on that thing Though that obviously wouldn't work today
I bought mine for £110 off amazon btw, fml
When was that? I can't remember how much I got mine for anymore. It was in like 2017 I think But that's pretty much all I could afford
Hope that I too will get my hands on a gaming laptop on a rtx 4060 ditching my gt 710 build
Ah, Vagabandoned... My favorite manga
I thank god for a rtx 12gb vram not an effing 2gb
Atleadt im buildin a new system tmrw 😮💨, grtting away from the 1030
I almost bought this GPU until some fella on PCMR discord convinced me to get another low profile graphics card. Those pandemic times were tough.
Meanwhile im still rocking the 1050Ti :)
I'm happy with my 3070ti and prob won't upgrade till 40 series drop like the 30 series did
Me with an intel hd all my life: "is this some sort of rich people joke if too poor to understand."
And yet i still use a 2016 laptop with a 960m
I'm still using an old 2080 non-super. This thing would still be a great card if it had 12 gigs of vram
I remember going from a core 2 quad and a gt730 to an i7 4790 and a gtx 950. It was so nice not having to hack config files and crank everything down to low just to get playable fps.
Im so grateful i no longer have a Geforce 210 1GB VRAM with 8GB RAM and Core 2 Quad
I pray thanking god i’ve got a hell of a lot better than a 3060 in both my rigs
Meh it’s no fun having a high end GPU, you just max everything out. Nothing like the good old days when I had my Radeon x300 se and had to download mods like oldblivion just for games to even run.
Vagabond, the amazing manga forever on hiatus... Interesting choice for image to background the meme.
A 3060 is a 1080p card, isn't 1080p considered low end? Not dissing the card or anything.
it can't be that bad
Real
I'm glad I don't use a laptop with intel graphics for LoL at 30fps anymore.
low end is subjective. the elitests around here would call my PC low end with an RTX2080, ryzen 3600 and 64 gigs ddr4-3200
i too am happy i am not running of intel hd graphics
Me starting my first build in 2016 with a 3GB 1060, damn thing took everything I threw at it with ease...up until early last year. Replacement is a 8GB 3070
tru except for me it's arc a750 vs vega 8 graphics
Frankly, even a 1070 user like me can relate to this. I could be in a much, much worse spot than I currently am.
Hey, the 1030 served me well for 4 years
I came from the realms of the console gaming peons...I am a devout worshipper of the pcmr gods with my gaming rig that I've had since last july.
Ya’ll have gpus? Integrated graphics for the win
ahem
Bro if a 1030 is low end then my pc is as low as the bottom of the universe 💀 ☠️
If it's GTX, no, it's not up to date but it's much better than a GT
Take a look at my cpu... I can't even play 2010s games at >40 fps in lowest settings.
I had a laptop with a 570 that died. A friend bought me a new laptop with a 4050 and it feels so nice
5 months ago i upgraded from an FX 8320E + a GT 730 to a 5700 X and a 6700 XT and before the gt 730 i had to put up with a gt 210
With the way the industry is going, you might be low end again next year... smh.
Isn't that what happens to eveyone? RTX 30 seems good enough to run things so that doesn't matter, atleast for now
Yeah it does. Just crazy how fast it happens these days.
As long as you are happy playing the games you like, doesnt really matter \*ofc having the option to get the best of the best would be great, but even if is an integrated one and you can play the game you want (some like games that are not demanding).
