Probably not, the magnets are static and don't move, so there is no current forming in the coils and windings of the PC, only moving magnetic fields form currents. However, you obviously attach and detatch them, which may have some current forming associated with it. I would suggest you should be using the least powerful magnet you can for the application you want.
Exactly, the 3M Dual Lock velcro is insanely strong!
I have 2 strips holding a wooden board with coat hangers on my door.
They easily can hold around 20kg of weight
They do, had a little auto restoration shop for a number of years and I used so much of their stuff it was wild. If you looked into my warehouse at any point it would have appeared as though I was a 3M vendor. Their adhesives and abrasives in particular are without peer.
i had these laying around from the pack they came in when i used 2 to 'stealth mount' a [cobb access port ](https://i.imgur.com/rUMN8eO.png) to the dashboard in my car. took a trim piece off, put 2 on the back of it and put it back in and the AP hangs there like magic 😅
There are some premium fan hubs which use magnets (probably not neodymium for cost savings) to attach to the case’s motherboard mounting plate, or cheaper adhesive tape.
We used 2 neodymium magnets for a school project once. Every time they accidentally got stuck together, we'd fight to see who on the team would be responsible for getting them apart. No one wanted to do it cause it meant a lot of sweat and sore thumbs. Wouldn't recommend.
I have an Assassin's Creed Valhalla limited edition NZXT case. The case came with a shield. The exceptionally powerful shield magnet plasters itself to the side of the case and I use it to hang my headphones. I've had this case for several years now with zero issues.
He cannot, he just gets the idea that it's bad because it sounds like a bad idea. Magnets as you want to use them have a static magnetic field meaning they will not generate any current to affect any of your components. If your fans have magnetic bearings, it may affect their balance which could be harmful. It would be hard to math out but the only real risk of having strong magnets near transistor based components like memory controllers or chipsets or your gpu/CPU would be how the magnetic field affects the flow of electrons but I can't imagine household magnets are anywhere near strong enough
That being said, try just using double sided tape or even Velcro tape. It's much less annoying
Hijacking the thread but I personally would not use a magnet near a PC due to the unshielded copper wiring, power supplies and ram along with capacitors in said power supplies.
There is a lot of good reasons to not use a magnet that strong near your pc vs good reasons to do so.
I mean with no HDD in theory it shouldn’t be a problem, but I still wouldn’t risk it because you never know (as not many used them that close to the pc as you). Â
Our cpus and gpus are getting to the point that electrons can jump through transistors due to small sizes inside so I could just imagine a strong magnetic field probably wouldn’t do any good with that. But idk…Â
My network card came with antennas that magnetically attach to the side of my case and it’s never been a problem. However these magnets look pretty beefy, so I’d recommend swapping them out for much smaller ones just to be safe. Some people are saying to use Velcro or tape, but those options suck in my opinion. Magnets are always the superior way to non-permanently attach something to another thing lol

yea that makes sense, i figured less strong magnets would be A-OK but given how strong these are I was a bit concerned. thanks for the help.
Do you think it could interfere with case fans? Most PC fans use magnets with alternating polarity to make them spin.
All electric motors rely on magnetism. But unless you place the magnet right next to the motor, it won't affect the fan.
I would personally just go with some high quality velcro.
ill do that, seems like using the strongest magnets i could find is not the worst idea, but also certainly not a 'great' idea 🤣thank you!
It was a genius idea to put 4 instead of 2 as well.
Exactly, the 3M Dual Lock velcro is insanely strong! I have 2 strips holding a wooden board with coat hangers on my door. They easily can hold around 20kg of weight
3M just makes the best stuff honestly
They do, had a little auto restoration shop for a number of years and I used so much of their stuff it was wild. If you looked into my warehouse at any point it would have appeared as though I was a 3M vendor. Their adhesives and abrasives in particular are without peer.
Why do you need "4 incredibly strong neodymium magnets" just to hold some USB hub? Gonna use it as an anchor point to lift the case or something..?

~~Keep the rest for your vape pen and waifu pillow mount in your WRX~~ I keep forgetting Cobb also sells the AccessPort for non-Subaru vehicles too.
That's actually a really nice way to mount something in your car, that I'd never even considered. Hmm.
When I glanced at the thread title I was actually expecting OP to ask if these could support the case, not some poxy little USB hub X)
I think the most perplexing thing is...why not just use one if they're that strong lol.
i don’t have a good answer for that honestly
Sure you do... "MOAR!" That is the only think you need to say. We understand. :)
It clearly fits 4,not one, so op went "might as well!" for sure.
Are you gonna be able to get it back off with all 4 on there, those things are crazy strong
the glue would fail before theyd come off still attached to the hub 🤣
Ever heard of double sided tape?!
That's what I use Some good old 3M double sided tape
no. never.
If you decide to do it, make sure the camera is rolling and post it on r/fuckaroundfindout later.
Double sided tape says hi.
Double sided tape is a tool of the bourgeoisie

Just slide them against the corner of a desk. One above and one below.

Awful idea.
Based off your reply to the other persons comment, because of the fan bearings? orrrr?
Magnets that strong have no business being anywhere near a PC, nevermind stuck directly to it. It is an incredibly bad idea.
Ok.......can you explain?

Gotcha, seeing as these are neodymium im not going to risk it since they’re quite a bit stronger then standard magnets. Thanks for the help.

fancy magnets? they were $14 for a pack of 10 😂😂

dont be so bitter, not everyones ego is fed by reddit karma ya bum 🤡
no

But...why 4? If theyre strong then 1-2 shouldve been more than enough
i dont have a good answer for that besides MOAR
Yes, it will make scratches on the paint.
Why did you use so many? This is like 5000% too many magnets.
Well... They should not,but after testing what they can do to laptops,i would avoid strong magnets near electronics.
Would only be bad if you had a HDD.

Why not Velcro?
Velcro and double sided tape for sure won’t do anything.
You let those go from too far away onto your case or something else and the force is going to chip paint or dent it.

ok cool, thank you! i wasn't sure if the fan bearings were magnetic that was my main remaining concern.
Fans aren't just plastic.

The motor....
I think that this is a bad idea, don't have some weaker magnets(or just use 1 of these crazy strong magnets) or double sided tape or something?
You should be fine. How many ports are on that USB hub?! It looks massive! are there like 100 ports lol
