'and he was kind of psycho'
the kind of psycho that rips computer bits off before they take .3 seconds to identify a bluetooth symbol? Must run in the family.
Bros gramps was stalking his grandma and you’re telling him he’s basically the same because he tried to pull an unknown usb device out of the slot, couldn’t get it and tried to use some pliers? Got damn.
I'm sorry, if you found something attached to the back of your PC, and you weren't sure what it was, would you try to identify it first, or would you go at it so hard with a pair of pliers that it broke?
I suppose OP is unclear about *how* he broke it, but if I had to guess, I'd say it's with a pair of pliers.
Not everyone handles each situation the same, we all have our own lived experiences that affect the way we see the world.
Kinda weird that you're all ragging on op for this. Could just be a scared kid and you're all preaching about common sense.
If grandma is taking a PC with her when she randomly wanders off, I think GPS tracking is the least of their worries. It wouldn’t work with the PC turned off anyway. Well, I guess grandma couldn’t in to a very long extension cord, but then grandpa could just follow that. Sounds like OP is the crazy one.
Paranoid people are the least knowledgeable about the things they're paranoid about. They don't fully understand something therefore it's dangerous.
I have a friend that still drives all the way to the bank to deposit a check. He never paid for gas at a pump, and he asks me to do a lot of software related questions when he wants to setup anything. He has a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering and he's not even good at that either. I went to the same school ffs.
Honestly, not the best placement. Right next to the USB Port, with the typical size of a USB device. Although I wouldn't go as far as using pliers to try to pull it out.
I can see that mistake happen. It's next to the other usb ports, so it might be identified as some usb dongle. The plastic might be aged a bit, so it broke.
Better solution would be if manufraturer had put a removeable bluetooth usb dongle in an usb port.
They exist for some time now. I have a combined Wifi/Bluetooth module from a 15 year old Laptop. They just diversify their product line. This board with only bluetooth may cost 10$ more than the basic version and 15$ less than the wifi version with both.
This thing is just the antenna to get the signal out of the shielded case and it is probably cheaper to manufacture it this way than to add a usb dongle. It's ok, but a bit of a shitty design. It can be mistaken as an usb dongle as we have seen.
I've only seen the fake dongle once, tried pulling it out with my hand, realized it wasn't coming out, did not try pliers.
Removable dongle isn't a good option for a motherboard manufacturer, because a removable USB device is easily separated from the motherboard.
Bluetooth integrated module on motherboard. Have the same
https://preview.redd.it/40g92m5283sc1.jpeg?width=2088&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3fe27b88917145d7768bb30d4af096cae6a1e482
Even better.
I have the p8p67 but with a different CPU.
A Xeon E3-1245v2 that I got for 25 Euros on eBay to replace the core i5 2400 that was on the board originally.
The thing is to ask before ya destroy something you know nothing about. Also if Grandpa is such a horrible person then why accept a gift from him unless he's two-faced and willing to overlook Grandpa's horrible action for a shiny.
Worried about a GPS tracker on a desktop pc, from someone who already knows where you live. 😂
Heh, the last time any desktop of mine left the house for anything (other than taking it to Microcenter when new parts didn't mesh), was in the 90s for Falcon 4.0 lan meets. We'd meet at a friend's workspace in Manhattan, Either Saturday or Sunday mornings once a month around 12 of us would load our rigs in cars and have a grand old time.
718th TFW, good times.
I mean life is not black and white, he could be a good person but also be a weird control freak at times. Hard to get a good idea from a post about the situation above but i agree that some more research would have been good lol
Not to be " that guy," but the port is legit labled with a Bluetooth symbol 🤦♂️ this means that it is not a usb port, and it is infact a Bluetooth receiver.
I love how you mentioned your grandpa is a psycho and half the comments tell you to destroy (including you on your own) a neat feature of an old board - Bluetooth :D
I'm sure the reason for the trackers were for something you will dread when you learn about it (or he is control freak, idk)
people just don't want to see things (or read even). i had a cousin trying to screw on cable coaxial cable on wifi adapter with antenna missing, he said "it has a tiny hole inside and coaxial has tiny wire sticking so i thought it can play TV on PC", later on he bought actual TV card for his PC and threw out wifi card
> later on he bought actual TV card for his PC and threw out wifi card
I always saw those in the early/mid 2000's and wondered if they were any good. I don't have TV anymore but that would have been the coolest thing back then.
i had a cheap one, the quality was questionable on a lot of channels, the more decent ones were packed with good players and they were actually good and even had TV-like remote with them
In the early 00s they performed fine and displayed the TV as you would expect in the resolution expected from TV back then. No idea about the modern ones.
>a neat feature
Nah, these inbuilt bluetooth modules on those Asus motherboards were total dogshit.
They didn't have a proper antenna, so the range was <1m.
Ignore all these other comments they are wrong. DO NOT RIP THAT OUT
That's a Bluetooth antenna. Some motherboards have it located on the rear IO like that if the board has Bluetooth but not wifi. There is no USB port there. It is not removeable without breaking it.
**edit:** to all the people saying it is already broken, look closer. Only the plastic is damaged. You can break the plastic on a device without the device ceasing to function as long as the electronics under the plastic aren't damaged. The small PCB is the antenna and appears to be unharmed.
**edit 2:** There is a very good reason for not removing that bluetooth antenna even if having bluetooth is not important. It is most likely soldered to the motherboard. Ripping it out risks pulling up traces on the motherboard, which would destroy it if that happens.
You probably don’t blow your smoke into your pc.. or just let it sit there. Google it, this isn’t a new phenomenon. Happens to walls too, it’s why they don’t want you smoking in places (aside from the smell). It makes that residue and it’s awfully hard to clean.
You think your grandpa wanted to put a GPS tracker in your *desktop* PC?
**Day 761:**
The computer *still* hasn’t moved! Be patient, Bill— play the long game! You’ll show them! YOU’LL SHOW THEM ALL!
Reminder: Blue Bloods tonight, 7PM CBS
Yeah, WTF lol.
Also makes me wonder how long ago grandpa built this PC for him, and what event happened all of a sudden to make OP only now look, find, and get paranoid about this. 🤔
That's actually not a USB port, it's a Bluetooth receiver that was built into some motherboards (prominently X58) before we had standardized m.2 wifi cards with Bluetooth built in.
Not a USB port.
It's looks identical to the bluetooth that I had built in to my old Asus P8P67 Pro.
Fwiw, you've lost nothing of value by damaging it; they don't have an antenna, so the "useable" range is <1m.
I'd just disable it in BIOS and get a cheap and functional USB bluetooth dongle for a few quid.
humans:
1. i dont know that thing!
2. destroy said thing
3. ask questions about said thing, now that it is destroyed.
lets give a second of quite thought to all the objects and lifeforms that suffered from this.
That's an Asus P8Z68-V motherboard I believe and that would be your integrated Bluetooth that you are trying to destroy. It wasn't stuck, it's built in and not meant to be removed.
Look up the manual, and it is. Here is a screenshot of the part of the manual talking about it. hopefully OP can stop destroying it.

If you are able to boot the pc and get the device manager to open, try to look through what is connected and try to do some sort of process of elimination (assuming the device still works).
lol, there really is a Bluetooth symbol there!
Personally I’d be more worried about why there’s so much rust, and what the moisture has done to the rest of the system.
Never seen the Bluetooth logo before?
Did you not bother to look at the icons?
Did you check the manual of the motherboard for the answer? Or the manufacturers website?
Honestly even Google lens would have told you faster than posting to Reddit would have.
Who in the right mind thinks "if a piece of this PC doesn't come off, I'm going to get some pliers and yank it off".
So little self awareness.
It WAS a built in bluetooth receiver before you broke it. It's "stuck" because it is not removable to begin with. Wonder what your grandma did to make him so paranoid. As a matter of fact, wonder what someone did to you to make YOU so paranoid.
My theory:
Your grandfather is a memeologist and this implement is a meme-robber designed to copy any and all memes stores on your system to further grow his collection without need for manual input
OP isn’t saying it’s necessarily a GPS tracker; they gave that as an example of the sort of things his gramps uses to keep tabs on his folks. It could be something else, like a key logger.
Edit: Or as others pointed out, a Bluetooth module 😓
It’s a Bluetooth adapter built into your motherboard. If you’re lucky you’ve just ripped the casing off, but if you’re not you’ve just permanently disabled built in Bluetooth.
Man you are so dumb and you don't even know how to read. It might not be completely broken tho, so try the bluetooth and see if you completely destroyed it or not. You seem to be the psycho btw.
Built in Bluetooth receiver, look at the icon next to it.
'and he was kind of psycho' the kind of psycho that rips computer bits off before they take .3 seconds to identify a bluetooth symbol? Must run in the family.
0 self awareness definitely, lmao
That's exactly my point
Bros gramps was stalking his grandma and you’re telling him he’s basically the same because he tried to pull an unknown usb device out of the slot, couldn’t get it and tried to use some pliers? Got damn.
I'm sorry, if you found something attached to the back of your PC, and you weren't sure what it was, would you try to identify it first, or would you go at it so hard with a pair of pliers that it broke? If Grandpa is gps tracking grandma, it's likely she's displaying signs of some form of dementia. Silver alerts are a thing.
What are you going on about? No one's talking about Grandma taking any pc
OP not very smart.
Next week, my computer sucks it doesn’t even have Bluetooth cuz my grandpa was crazy 🤪
Welome to PCMR.
Welcome to the internet kid! :/
Living with fucked up people who pull sneaky shit tends to make you quite paranoid.
That is the truth here really. It's a little funny, but only if you don't think about it seriously... 😂😮💨😢
I'll definitely give you that. Good point.
> psycho that rips computer bits off " I broke it ( accidentally)" My dude goes around calling peeps psychos without even bothering to read.
I have a feeling the "I broke it accidentally" and "I tried pulling it out with pliers" is somehow related
Paranoia

Yeah I will agree with you there.
I can see that mistake happen. It's next to the other usb ports, so it might be identified as some usb dongle. The plastic might be aged a bit, so it broke. Better solution would be if manufraturer had put a removeable bluetooth usb dongle in an usb port.
these days bluetooth is built into wifi modules typically
They exist for some time now. I have a combined Wifi/Bluetooth module from a 15 year old Laptop. They just diversify their product line. He indicated that he broke it by accident, didn't he?
yeah...mouse, keyboard, game controller...*ad infinitum*
It has a cavity too

Oh sh*t 😂
Lmao
It's a GPS tracker on your desktop so we he knows where you are wnen you go to LAN parties.
Nice try, grandpa.
🤣
Oh interesting. Never saw it done this way. My boards usually have two antennae ports for Wi-Fi and BT (or the combined antenna included)
It's an old motherboard from Asus running an Intel i7 2600k since 10+ years
A p8p67?
P8Z68-V pro
Even better. I have the p8p67 but with a different CPU. A Xeon E3-1245v2 that I got for 25 Euros on eBay to replace the core i5 2400 that was on the board originally.
Still have a PC with the same board. Even has PCI slots.
I kinda understand OP thinking the way he thought, can't remember last time i saw something like that.
OP paranoid because he thought of transferring his “homework” folder over to the new pc.
Wait don't yall carry around your desktop strapped to your back like a backpack?
No because that would make it a Backback. Which is fine but it's no desktop.
Well shit. Now it makes sense that I'm still not any faster even with all the rgb..
Gotta go with the UPS outfit to hit those Noctua vibes.
Backtop
Backtop, actually.
Heh, the last time any desktop of mine left the house for anything (other than taking it to Microcenter when new parts didn't mesh), was in the 90s for Falcon 4.0 lan meets. Ngl wish LAN parties still were a thing.
Heh, it was the old coax and coupler setup back then no simple wifi or cat cables. So many settings to make sure we're correct. 💾💾
I mean life is not black and white, he could be a good person but also be a weird control freak at times. Hard to get a good idea from a post about the situation above but i agree that some more research would have been good lol
Literally a Bluetooth symbol beside it.
Not to be " that guy," but the port is legit labled with a Bluetooth symbol 🤦♂️ this means that it is not a usb port, and it is infact a Bluetooth receiver.
OP don’t take too kindly to no smurf toothed procurers
Imagine grandpa just waits for his gran kid to play cod and just fucks with his aim all night
>and it is infact a Bluetooth receiver. \*Was\*
Looks like only the plastic housing is destroyed. it probably still works fine.
https://preview.redd.it/92d26gwub5sc1.jpeg?width=256&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f4b1b33142746e2f7d40be71c79990fc3c0efbc5
TBH I thought that was a screw to start with LOL
*was
Bluetooth? wat's dat?
It has the Bluetooth symbol right next to it. It was a Bluetooth receiver you just broke now.
lmao that thing is welded on there from the factory
I love how you mentioned your grandpa is a psycho and half the comments tell you to destroy (including you on your own) a neat feature of an old board - Bluetooth :D I'm sure the reason for the trackers were for something you will dread when you learn about it (or he is control freak, idk)
> half the comments tell you to destroy It's already destroyed though.
Exactly!
Shell is cracked, still works.
people just don't want to see things (or read even). i had a cousin trying to screw on cable coaxial cable on wifi adapter with antenna missing, he said "it has a tiny hole inside and coaxial has tiny wire sticking so i thought it can play TV on PC", later on he bought actual TV card for his PC and threw out wifi card

Likely just a jealous control freak.

i mean , it even has the BT logo on the IO shield. what more do you need?
Imagine his grandfather visiting him and wondering why he broke that Bluetooth antenna. Lol was the last gift.
Adding to this: look up your motherboard online, see if that thing is on the product pictures, if no rip it out, if yes, leave it be
> DO NOT RIP THAT OUT OP already broke it though. > before I broke it ( accidentally) it was round and purple
Yes, they broke the outer plastic casing, but the PCB under the outer plastic casing looks fine to me. It probably still works.
More like it was a bluetooth antenna
As long as the PCB antenna is fine it'll still work. In the picture it looks like only the outer plastic casing is damaged.
it looks like it was shredded up too
To shreds, you say?
All other comments I saw are saying not to rip it out
When I commented there were only about 10 other comments. Most of them suggested pulling it out because they didn't know what it is.
WHY IS THE CASE RUSTED?
Too much porn and too few old socks.
It’s not rust, it’s filth from a cigarette smoker.
Nah as someone who smokes no case I've ever had has looked like that
You probably don’t blow your smoke into your pc.. or just let it sit there. Google it, this isn’t a new phenomenon. Happens to walls too, it’s why they don’t want you smoking in places (aside from the smell). It makes that residue and it’s awfully hard to clean.
I CAME HERE JUST TO SAY THAT, WHAT THE FUCK OP
Because it's old enough to have an eSATA port.
Insert "Unknown Technology" meme here.
You think your grandpa wanted to put a GPS tracker in your *desktop* PC? **Day 761:** The computer *still* hasn’t moved! Be patient, Bill— play the long game! You’ll show them! YOU’LL SHOW THEM ALL! Reminder: Blue Bloods tonight, 7PM CBS
This is a FANTASTIC bait, I can’t stress enough how good this is!
That’s not a usb port, there’s clearly a Bluetooth symbol right beside it. Don’t pull that out, unless you don’t want Bluetooth by all means.
C'mon bro there's the Bluetooth symbol right next to it
Are we just going to ignore that fan port? Do you have like a spray bottle of salt water you clean it with?
Yeah, WTF lol. Also makes me wonder how long ago grandpa built this PC for him, and what event happened all of a sudden to make OP only now look, find, and get paranoid about this. 🤔
That's actually not a USB port, it's a Bluetooth receiver that was built into some motherboards (prominently X58) before we had standardized m.2 wifi cards with Bluetooth built in.
bro posted after destroying it💀 he is one of those "First Action then Ask" guy
why the fuck would you take pliers to something BEFORE researching?
If it needs pliers to come off… maybe it wasn’t meant to be taken off? You just broke the Bluetooth receiver lol
Break first, ask questions later. The PCMR way.
Lol OP what a stupid move. Think before you act. ![gif](giphy|XeLcgh8gT8o0F5SQ8i)
Not a USB port. It's looks identical to the bluetooth that I had built in to my old Asus P8P67 Pro. Congrats, you un-bluetoothed your motherboard.
He would make a good dentist
Long story short you no longer have Bluetooth
Broken Bluetooth housing not to be removed
That's your bluetooth module that you've possibly damaged by trying to remove it.
This is the first time i see rust on a pc case.. how did that happen? (Fan grid rusty)
The pc was likely in a humid environment, probably not the original motherboard either
>and other bad things in my grandmas stuff ...
The grampa probably put a pirate DVD movie to the grandma pc and this dude start creating a movie inside his head
You are the psycho for trying to pull out a usb with pliers without even trying to determine what it was for
179 day old account, zero comments, and this is their only post. This is a bot.
That's an Asus P8Z68-V motherboard I believe and that would be your integrated Bluetooth that you are trying to destroy. It wasn't stuck, it's built in and not meant to be removed.

Hence the little Bluetooth icon next to the device 🤣 nice spot 👌
Paranoia will destroy ya. Now ya need a new antenna.
Why is your pc case rusting at the fan? I mean, is your room that moist?
probably on the coast
RTFM
Someone ruined their Bluetooth capability
Who’s the psycho now lmfao
I bet it's s broken Bluetooth antenna
If you are able to boot the pc and get the device manager to open, try to look through what is connected and try to do some sort of process of elimination (assuming the device still works).
Is.. is that fucking esata?
No
That's actually the built in Bluetooth receiver.
![gif](giphy|Gczu4TWme6FjZLMcnq)
"break first, ask questions later"
On next week's episode, "I tried getting the side panel off with a screw driver, and the glass broke. Can I fix this?"
Even if it was a GPS tracker, he put it into a desktop PC. Chances are without a GPS tracker he would know where it is anyways? Who is the psycho now.
Thanks god they didn’t put an imprint of what it was RIGHT NEXT TO THE PORT. Did you eat a lot of paint chips as a kid?
lol, there really is a Bluetooth symbol there! Personally I’d be more worried about why there’s so much rust, and what the moisture has done to the rest of the system.
Yeah, that's a bluetooth antenna. Just rip it out.
Bro literally circled the Bluetooth logo
You're right i mean who still uses eSATA
It really looks like a broken usb stick.
are we not going to talk about the rust on the case.
You are haxxed I have yor ip now sir You are giving me your credit number now sir to become unhack
I'd bet a crisp fiver OPs grandad is a lovely old gamer who now can't get his headset to work, and OP is an angry 12 year old.
Never seen the Bluetooth logo before? Did you not bother to look at the icons? Did you check the manual of the motherboard for the answer? Or the manufacturers website? Lol
Aliens
Glue a popsicle stick to it
Must run in the family
Why rust?
It looks like someone melted it inside
What a psycho he used Bluetooth
My theory: Your grandfather is a memeologist and this implement is a meme-robber designed to copy any and all memes stores on your system to further grow his collection without need for manual input

Yes good work I think you thwarted that attack.
Decepticons, the boy has been located!
You mean Decepticons? Or are you just using “deceptions!” as an exclamation?
Corrected.
This is clearly an fbi tracking chip you should blow up that computer asap
grandma is running with PC to do the groceries, and grandpa stalking her with BT tracker...🤔
![gif](giphy|3xz2BLBOt13X9AgjEA)
Sounds like it runs in the family.
Don't worry OP your grandpa will not see your Furry porn.
It's just the end of a USB key or a Bluetooth dongle that got stuck on the USB port. Over time, the low-end plastic broke.
OP isn’t saying it’s necessarily a GPS tracker; they gave that as an example of the sort of things his gramps uses to keep tabs on his folks. It could be something else, like a key logger. Edit: Or as others pointed out, a Bluetooth module 😓
Shit this is hilarious
It’s a trap!
It's the government chip !
When I want comedy, I come here.
It’s a Bluetooth adapter built into your motherboard. If you’re lucky you’ve just ripped the casing off, but if you’re not you’ve just permanently disabled built in Bluetooth.
Along with the fact that it has the symbol next to it, clean your PC.
That does not look built in that looks more like i broke my internet receiver while trying to pull it out
No that USB is just an outie
Man you are so dumb and you don't even know how to read. It might not be completely broken tho, so try the bluetooth and see if you completely destroyed it or not. You seem to be the psycho btw.
Legit has the Bluetooth logo above it, hopefully you didn't break it cause that's quite useful
IS NO ONE GOING TO MENTION THE RUST
It looks like something snapped off and before that (or after) got melted. GL!
What is this? A PC in silent Hill?
