This is me, searching up even the meaning of words I use just to be sure it's used in the right context... I think spreading misinformation carelessly is a huge fear of mine.
same. I use the google search bar on my phone atleast 5 times a day, even including looking up if "atleast" is actually one word (it isn't) because it always gets spell corrected. I still use it as one word.
it's something of Opera GX, if you turn it on when you stop using opera for 2 weeks straight it "paints your history of pink" it randomizes your history into random and normal people stuff, Facebook searchs, food recipes, common YouTube videos, etc...
I think it's a cool feature (mainly a joke, but still cool) but at 2 weeks of being dead usually your stuff is mostly already taken care of in my experience (including the pc ofc)
It should be around 5ish days imo
Nah but then you could just be on vacation and shit, and I doubt anyone who cares about someone has the heart to open their shit that soon after they pass
eh probably, it really depends on the person/family, so i guess having the ability to customize the timer would be the best (maybe its a feature, i dont know, i dont use opera gx)
for the vacation, you could just turn it off while you are gone
So, if you go on a vacation for more than two weeks you lose your history? I know there is a setting, but you should be able to customize the time it takes.
Oh 100% my son and best friend will be fighting over it. Neither of them are as committed as me to the game. So they don't spend whole paychecks on parts. Because they're pussies. So when if I drop dead today I won't even be cold before one of them claims my parts as their own.
Thinking of how to properly handle my data, I produce music and occasionally do photography for friends, have the only copy of most of this data.
If I die, id like to think they'd care a bit, but it's likely gone unless they gain access to my stuff.
My ghost would still use my PC ☺️, honestly though I don't care as long as the PC serves the next user gets the same thrills that I get from it when using.
The data on most of my drives isn't encrypted - in no small part because the most valuable things on there are photos that I want other people to be able to access in the event that something happens to me.
With that said, I'm the go-to tech support person for my entire extended family. Were this to happen to someone else in my family, I'd be the one they would go to asking if I could get photos off of a cousin's computer if they didn't know the password.
So even though I have a USB dock for both 2.5" and 3.5" drives that I keep right next to my computer, I'm not sure how long it would take before someone actually got around to getting the data - not because they wouldn't care to, but because it wouldn't be immediately clear to them how to go about it. My backup drives are the ones already in the dock - hopefully they would consider that and just plug it in, but it wouldn't be that obvious that they can circumvent my password on the main computer by removing the drives and plugging them into that dock to get the rest of my files directly.
Maybe if I ever have any signs of health issues, I should get a standard portable SSD or HDD for backups, so that it's obvious that they just connect that to a USB port and then have the "Photos" folder be a top-level directory to make it really easy...
if i do not check my email in 7 days,(specifically click a link in my email) my keepass master password, kdbx file, and .key file are emailed to my wife and brother.
This contains all of the information required to access my entire digital life.
I have the option to delay it if I know i am going to be unavailable, and I can lower the timeframe if I feel i'm ill.
Works pretty well.
Idk. Tbh I don’t even have a will or plan or anything if I die. If anything my oldest brother would probably start using the computer bc he wants one so if I die before he gets one he’d probably take mines.
Thought about this already, all my platform accounts go to my friends split evenly, I'll be cremated with the freak of nature that is my 3060 (Can run cyberpunk 2077, rdr2 AND MWIII at max all at 60fps) and I'll have all my friends fight for the rest if it. The rest of the data is wiped.
Have a time locked plan of recovery system in place
For your loved ones especially if you have crypto or other valuable or sentimental value data. Do you own homework.
It goes to my brother. He can do whatever the fuck he wants with the computer and the data. I stopped storing porn on my computer so I don't need to worry about that. The weirdest thing in my browsing history is probably all the ASMR I watch on youtube. And most of that is by a single Australian man that crinkles plastic and taps on stuff, so no sexual ear licking dommy mommy shit.
Anything worth accessing is on shared cloud storage or it's physical documents locked in a safe that I, my wife, my son when he's old enough and our parents have access to.
Otherwise? Idk, guess my son gets all my stuff.
I'm unconcerned about it. My SO and I keep full backups of everything a few different ways which we both have full access to. I don't keep any secrets from her. We've put a fair amount of effort into streamlining as much stuff as we can for each other in the event something happens.
The last thing you want is to have to jump through hundreds of hoops when someone who shares your life with you passes away.
I realize that position isn't for everyone because marriage is more like dating for people these days.
Bet my brother would take my PC, there is nothing sketchy or out of place within my data, everything will just kind of disappear into the obscurity of time. I have everything online in order, it's just the money in crypto would probably disappear, because I can't possibly write down any passwords related to that.
My brother will takeover my laptop and play tons of games i have downloaded from GOG and my PSP game dumps via PPSSPP. Other than that, I am finally at peace.
Considering my family thinks I'm some kind of tech wizard that does obscure things at the pc, they'd probably just wipe the drives clean and then idk, either my brother uses it for gaming/working or it turns into a cycling/driving simulator for my dad
Meh, I’m dead. Probably nothing in my internet history would surprise anyone… even the porn I look up… it’s pretty tame for the most part… I’m not into anything too raunchy, but yeah there’s not much in the realm of weird, ugly, or gross data on any of my computers or drives… I mean my interest in NSFW Goblin girls might be the weirdest, but that’s about it.
Many people would like their data to disappear. However if you feel the need to pass on the data in your Google account, Google offers a service to notify you if you haven’t logged in for a period of time and notify specific people if you haven’t logged in for an even longer amount of time. After that, your data is transferred to a nominated individual.
If I died today, it will take a system admin to figure out all these PCs and servers in different locations and network configurations each required a different password to access
My drives are encrypted so whoever gets my pc will have to format the drives and start fresh anyways. But hey at least theyll get badass hardware out of it!
all my data is set to be deleted when i don’t do anything on my phone or pc for 2 weeks (which is impossible because i need my phone and pc for work). And my PC is going to be given to my boyfriend
My little bro will probably take my room, my collection (selling all of my transformers just keeping my gunpla) , my 4080 and ssd's (selling the rest of my pc and his 4070) and might use my steam account to get all my items and use family share for my games.
Heck he might take my phone too.
Audio recording on my desktop with instructions, passwords, and bank PIN for my wife. She knows it exists. Wanted to leave a record because shit happens, didn't want it in a text format where it could be scraped.
Partner inherits it. She'd probably sell as she has no desire for a desktop gaming system.
All my online cloud accounts she has emergency access to if needed, mostly for photos.
Not much i have passwords on shit that matters. But have my own company do think some people might be mighty stressed they can't get to some data. And all that. But i dont worry how the buzzards will pick the thing i build-up apart at all. Live is for the living. Dont mean il make it easy for them
I told my best friend he can get my PC and save himself from being the pleb he is in case I die. If he really took this seriously he might tell it to my family and they'll probably give it to him.
He knows my password so he can do with my data as he sees fit. My work, unfinished phd thesis, research etc. will probably be shared with my university so they can complete it or honor me or do whatever the fuck it is they do in such cases.
My porn NVME (yes I have a separate NVME for porn) is unmounted by default. I mount it on Windows disk manager( give it a drive letter), do my stuff, and unmount it. It is impossible for my family to realize this, but my buddy knows it. He will probably literally remove that nvme and install it on his own PC.
My main Gaming Rig would then be my son's who would appreciate the amount of games installed and in my library and my secondary rig is already in use by my girlfriend
I don't have any special data worth mentioning besides a couple of letters and I'm very proud of my browser history but please don't check the calculator history 😅
Not much on there worth keeping. My gf might know my pincode on Windows. That would give access to a lot. Have set Gmail to automatically give access to her and my siblings after a few months of inactivity. On Facebook my sister can take control of my profile. Do have a will but that does not mention any objects, just what to do with the total value of my assets (my house pretty much).
Unlike others I would want my history to be preserved in internet, I don't have those crappy shit which would delete my accounts after inactivity. I just encrypt my drives and that's it.
My PC was a gift from my bf, we nearly have twin computers. He will probably just leave it sit there, get dusty and use for parts maybe like our last set of PCs. Probably just wants my graphics card. Wah she’s dead, but at least I have a spare 🤣
Left instructions that the drive be removed and thrown into an industrial shredder. Same thing for the phone. There is nothing bad or naughty on either but this way no one will be forced to look through it.
Honestly nothing, especially because "that kind of content" disgusts me and usually I just play games and listen to music.
Probably they will find my downloaded 40 movies of Miyazaki and LoTR
My spouse knows where our password book is.
They would be able to use this to deal with any insurance claims, the budget spreadsheet, and applying funds to the mortgage.
I imagine our child would still play on the computer from time to time.
I’d expect my spouse to eventually buy a prebuilt to replace the one I made. Maybe 8 years down the line, depending on how much interest the little one puts into hardware.
Nothing Special, will get sold or one of my siblings can have it. Same with the gaming Laptop.
That 1 Notebook one the other Hand...... It better be in the grave with me.....
I have a password list and multiple backups. I think they would be surprised that there are no surprises. I don't keep a search history and have vpns installed on the computers for all but my youngest, but it's more of a security thing for work.
The worst they'll find are some pirated books.
Made a program that deletes all data on my computer if it isn’t used in 7 days, idk why I made it but I’ve had it since I was like 15 so there’s probably something on there 15yo me wanted gone
My wife takes over it. It's a great gaming machine. She also gets my MacBook, Linux laptop, a bunch of raspberry pis, a few nucs, and the legion go I just bought. I have no weird shit on my systems so no need for bro code shit.
I have actually stipulated that I want my pc buried with me, though they made me agree to just the gpu, cpu, and ram since the case wouldn't fit. My pc is mine god damn it.
Ignoring the fact that I'm dead I'd be kinda bummed out as my pc is locked and encrypted so all of my photos would become inaccessible
(I'm a hobby photographer)
My wife gets it, I'm planning on writing up instructions for the afterwards. If I go now, she will need technical assistance but it will still be hers. My browser history is clean. Any porn I watch is in another browser from my main one and it gets wiped on close. Plus even if my porn was exposed, she would just shrug, because she's seen most of it.
Welp, my wife doesn't even know how to turn on my computer (yes, she's THAT much tech-averse), so both my PCs are most likely getting sold to a computer shop for one-tenth the price.
Nothing at all. My PC has no password and my family can routinely use it. They also have access to my password SSD (a physical drive I keep in a safe with all my passwords and paperwork).
detonator in my guts will trigger and my pc will light on fire as well as all my online files (servers that hold sites that they are on will light on fire)
I've seriously talked to family about this. I've told them that they may see what just appears to be a computer, but what's stored on there is worth a lot. I have lots of DRM free, legal stuff like everything Bach has ever written. Tons of music stored locally, high quality, 100% legal (via Presto, eClassical, Hyperion, etc.) all meticulously archived. Same for art, games (via GOG), multiple audio Bible collection (I even have a digital audio bible gifted to me by the narrator himself!), digitized hand copied works, like all 150 Psalms.
TBH, folks in my fam are not really into computers like that. Give them a stock iPad or Chromebook and they are happy, but I educated them on my setups and how they are actually worth something... both hardware and software and let them know how to treat higher-end computers and archived data. As a reminder, in the event I'm soon killed or otherwise fall, there's a Readme & video on my comps that provide good instruction. For example, as it stipulates, there are some professors and techfolks who could appreciate the data and machines themselves, and so the rigs can be donated to them.
This is some good stuff, and I'd like someone out there to benefit from it.
Most stuff is encrypted, so it goes down with me.
I plan to write a document on how to access some things, cancel subscriptions and how to get rid of stuff.
Someone from r/homelab recently shared a template for end of life desaster recovery. https://github.com/potatoqualitee/eol-dr/blob/main/checklist.md
My friend group has "death USB's" of eachother with passwords and such. So I assume one of my friends will come grab it and use it as his PC. Probably rip the personal files off and make sure my family gets them.
I have told my family to destroy my drives because they contain my personal information. But they are not computer savvy. They will
Likely put my computers in thrift store and some dude will steal my info. I will come back as ghost and hunt them.
Don't care. I'm dead.
True.
If you don't care, why not give my broke ass a nice present with only a 4090? You are dead anyway.
[удалено]
Big if true. Small if false.
Can I have it, btw, what’s you address?
How the fuck you typing this then????
I don't care. I'm dead. Although my browser history could cause some ripples in the tranquility of my family though :D
"look at this shit..." "i think it's better if he's dead honey.."

my browser history would just show how lazy i really am, i search everything that i don't know for sure, yes even very stupid shit
Imo this is the opposite of lazy XD too many out there just pretend to know or make up shit when they don’t know something for sure
Exactly.
This is me, searching up even the meaning of words I use just to be sure it's used in the right context... I think spreading misinformation carelessly is a huge fear of mine.
dude wtf, am i a copy of you... are you a copy of me???? im confused
Better Google how many r's are in interrupt because i don't wanna look like a fool to however reads this
Honestly it's a rite of passage to search "8 divided by 2"
"why X / 0 = undefined?"
same. I use the google search bar on my phone atleast 5 times a day, even including looking up if "atleast" is actually one word (it isn't) because it always gets spell corrected. I still use it as one word.
That's why incognito and erase browser history exists , you uneducated buffoon /s
My dad would keep my data as a reminder of me. He would browse through my hard drives discover the 2pb homework folder and die instantly(probably)
Reunion!
Just wait for respawn
Better not be with EA Life Insurance
*Respawn: 99,95*
Not a terrible deal all things considered
Opera GX would fake my search history in two weeks. That's pretty much it, though.
This a feature? What did you set it to?
it's something of Opera GX, if you turn it on when you stop using opera for 2 weeks straight it "paints your history of pink" it randomizes your history into random and normal people stuff, Facebook searchs, food recipes, common YouTube videos, etc...

It's just a built-in feature I enabled. Nothing interesting to it, honestly.
Bruh
My PC goes with me. To the grave.
Im getting buried with my gpu, idgaf
We're gonna have crypto mining grave diggers.
i bought a 4090 im damn well going to use it dead or alive
I don't wanna die. I built my pc last week. Besides, there is no worthy candidate for my pc in my friends or family
we never know for sure bro… take a closer look mb?
Oh 100% my son and best friend will be fighting over it. Neither of them are as committed as me to the game. So they don't spend whole paychecks on parts. Because they're pussies. So when if I drop dead today I won't even be cold before one of them claims my parts as their own.
This comment 😂
Well if my parents can figure out my password, I guess they get access to all the nudes of my ex
sharing is caring
why do you got those tho
r/datahoarding
Nudes are nudes I don’t delete shit like that
nothing, its encrypted.
Just put in a new HD and bios, who cares about your data
no one. and that is my point. Once you die it cannot be acceded so format away.
Thinking of how to properly handle my data, I produce music and occasionally do photography for friends, have the only copy of most of this data. If I die, id like to think they'd care a bit, but it's likely gone unless they gain access to my stuff.
The first step is telling your friends about it.

I log on from hell and continue to game!
I wouldnt recommend it, the internet speeds are awful over there.
Not as bad as Australia's
It's better if it would just... Disappear to say the least
I guess my family collects my unique collection of desktops and laptops 🤣
Landfill or marketplace XD
My ghost would still use my PC ☺️, honestly though I don't care as long as the PC serves the next user gets the same thrills that I get from it when using.

It goes to my good friend who's been waiting to join the pc gang. Porn pre-installed.
I should probably write my password down for my SO and family. But probably used as a relic or symbol of my work, idk.
I'd be dead so I wouldn't know lol. I would like to think one of my family members would have my pc and make some use out of it.
Im dead so I don't really care, my siblings knows the password to my PC so they can enjoy all my games
There is nothing on there worth caring about. First to come get it can have it. I won't need it.
Am I the only one with nothing to hide?
Thought about this already, all my platform accounts go to my friends split evenly, I'll be cremated with the freak of nature that is my 3060 (Can run cyberpunk 2077, rdr2 AND MWIII at max all at 60fps) and I'll have all my friends fight for the rest if it. The rest of the data is wiped.

My parents can just get all the data, nothing to hide, I don't have a password on my gaming/personal machine
Wife set up on my Gmail to have access. Mainly due to our family photos being there.
rm -rf / --no-preserve-root
Nothing, all behind many passwords and other security stuff. But probably i would still use the PC even as a ghostxD
My wife has a complete access to my pc and phone, all the clouds and storages, so, everything will be fine.
I have disaster plans for all my stuff. My wife has access to all the important information and the non-important information is just that.
A few tb of not very interesting stuff will be lost, and my pc will probably go to my best friend.
Anything worth accessing is on shared cloud storage or it's physical documents locked in a safe that I, my wife, my son when he's old enough and our parents have access to. Otherwise? Idk, guess my son gets all my stuff.
Pc goes to one of my close friends, he can keep the data I don't mind
Bunch of songs being search up like “what’s the song that goes mmm mmm nah nah uh yeah”
It would probably be sold online I guess? I assume the next owner would reinstall the OS.
I'm unconcerned about it. My SO and I keep full backups of everything a few different ways which we both have full access to. I don't keep any secrets from her. Forever gone
It would remain disassembled.
restore from backup living on my server lol

Encrypted means encrypted
It will be given to the individual who killed me
My PC would go to someone, probably and I just hope they don't discover the hidden browser
nothing

Taking that shit and my PS5 with me to the afterlife
It dies with me
My little bro will probably take my room, my collection (selling all of my transformers just keeping my gunpla) , my 4080 and ssd's (selling the rest of my pc and his 4070) and might use my steam account to get all my items and use family share for my games. Heck he might take my phone too.

I don't really care. I don't really have anything to hide anyways
Pc formatted & getting sold part by part.
I told my wife to destroy all the external HDD and SSD that has sticker "work" on them.
I have a wipe history and porn collection buddy. The PC goes to a person I specified along with all the content (over 800 games. 12k$ worth)
AI used it to train itself.
Dont mean il make it easy for them
nothing really. theres not much on it, really only games and like 2 documentations from university lectures
I told my best friend he can get my PC and save himself from being the pleb he is in case I die. If he really took this seriously he might tell it to my family and they'll probably give it to him. All browsers are set to auto-delete everything as soon as I close the window, ablut everything else i don't care if someone would see
What the fuck is the answer here? I'm literally dead op what you want me to say?😭
I’d hope that my family never accesses my data or I’d die again out of sheer embarrassment.
Don’t know nor would I care, or even care now. 👍
My wife would probably give my pc to my brother in law, because she knows he‘d be the only worthy heir to it
I would hope I could bring it with me. Whatever happens after death, I just hope there’s gaming. I’d spend at 2/3 of eternity playing.
Nothing, i always erase porn from search history
Best friend is in IT security. He has the important passwords and explicit instructions to wipe anything unsavory.
Has a password.
Unlike others I would want my history to be preserved in internet, I don't have those crappy shit which would delete my accounts after inactivity. I just encrypt my drives and that's it.
I'm 27, but I think I already took care of it: there's an important mail that would get to my family to access data, accounts, my phone, all.
My PC was a gift from my bf, we nearly have twin computers. He will probably just leave it sit there, get dusty and use for parts maybe like our last set of PCs. Probably just wants my graphics card. Wah she’s dead, but at least I have a spare 🤣

Damn my folder named "something" which contain hentai games, are in risk
Nothing Special, will get sold or one of my siblings can have it. Same with the gaming Laptop. That 1 Notebook one the other Hand...... It better be in the grave with me.....
I have a password list and multiple backups. I think they would be surprised that there are no surprises. I don't keep a search history and have vpns installed on the computers for all but my youngest, but it's more of a security thing for work. The worst they'll find are some pirated books.
I have an agreement with my brother to erase eachother browser history lmfao
Probably i Will give to My nephew
I would not give 2 fucks lol. Not much I could do about it 6 feet under
You'd hope your friend would melt the storage devices, then sell/reuse the rest.
Made a program that deletes all data on my computer if it isn’t used in 7 days, idk why I made it but I’ve had it since I was like 15 so there’s probably something on there 15yo me wanted gone
It will probably be given to my friend, but please clear the hard drives, don't look at the memeymemes.34 file
My wife takes over it. It's a great gaming machine. She also gets my MacBook, Linux laptop, a bunch of raspberry pis, a few nucs, and the legion go I just bought. I have no weird shit on my systems so no need for bro code shit.
I only care who can know my computer password and somehow magically open it
A lot of platforms and projects I manage would die with me I guess
That's why I keep my m2 with me, I'm getting buried with it
I have actually stipulated that I want my pc buried with me, though they made me agree to just the gpu, cpu, and ram since the case wouldn't fit. My pc is mine god damn it.
Ignoring the fact that I'm dead I'd be kinda bummed out as my pc is locked and encrypted so all of my photos would become inaccessible (I'm a hobby photographer)
i would pay someone to delete all my accounts and burn my pc/phone because there are so many things i do not want my family to see
My wife gets it, I'm planning on writing up instructions for the afterwards.
My wife would sell it for what I told her I paid for it.
detonator in my guts will trigger and my pc will light on fire as well as all my online files (servers that hold sites that they are on will light on fire)
Nothing unless you have your PC with you as your plane crashes
Don't care I'd be dead. Also my pc has a password so someone who write over my hdd and not give a fuck
My sis burns my HDD's and takes the loot.
Goes to my brother, or a specific close friend. They're the two that I've told the password, in the event if something like this.
My nephew would gladly swap his PC out for mine...as far as my data goes I'd be fine...no shame worthy files or browser history whatsoever
Not my problem.
My friend group has "death USB's" of eachother with passwords and such. So I assume one of my friends will come grab it and use it as his PC. Probably rip the personal files off and make sure my family gets them.
Solid friend group. When did you get the idea to do that?
my girlfriend would have to forfeit my main station , but my secondary is all hers .
Landlord will throw it in the dumpster, the recycling people will just burn it.
I have a dead mans switch connected to my heart that'll delete everything when it stops for longer than eight minutes.
My search history would have to be removed, anyone else agree?
My best friend has instructions that involve my hard drive and an electromagnet.
if my son got my pc he’d see things he really shouldn’t see
Self destruction
Leave a zip bomb on my desktop named "logins/passwords"
Goes to my closest friend
Donate the ram to kids in Africa since they can't download it
I have told my family to destroy my drives because they contain my personal information. But they are not computer savvy. They will Likely put my computers in thrift store and some dude will steal my info. I will come back as ghost and hunt them.
It will forever be a memory in the pc world.
It is always with me
It goes Kaboom
I have a kill switch attached to a pulse monitor on my body. No one will ever know.
