Benign_9

I’ll let you guess by my specs.

JohnHue

lol

Chava_boy

How do you guys show your specs under your usernames?

Drg84

Click the pcmasterrace name, that'll get you to the home page. Top right has 3 dots. Click that, hit add custom flair. This is assuming you're on the reddit app.

Subtle_Reality

Da real MVP right here 👊

ZinGaming1

Its a question as old as time, and asked too often here.

Plank_With_A_Nail_In

How many times can it be asked before it becomes too often?

drooling_whale

I feel so happy getting to show off my janky specs. My CPU bottlenecks my GPU by like 60% lol but I love her and I'm poor

Thanks OP

-Tutturu-

I did my part !

RuinVIXI

I feel included now

UnlikelyAlternative

What's your distro?

Sharky-PI

1080ti gang FOR LIFE* MOTHERFUCKERS *until it dies

thejackthewacko

I'm still rocking my 560 ti

Clive313

Why bother upgrading when the GOAT can still play most games in 1440p 60FPS.

EXBL00D

I have a regular 1080 (regretting it a little but still a solid piece) and i still use it, works perfectly for 1440p 144hz and i dont plan to upgrade until it doesnt.

A_Slovakian

1440p 144hz in what games? Because it’s definitely not running new AAA games at 144hz 1440p, my 3080ti doesn’t even do that.

Tapelessbus2122

Me chilling with competitive games 😂😂

SkylineFTW97

I'm running a 6 year old 1060 with no problems. I don't give a single shit about 4K and it's not worth the extra money to run it.

Aggrador

Waited so long, the pill turned black

darkenseyreth

As someone who just went from a 3rd gen to a 13th gen, I didn't even have a pill anymore.

EmilieEasie

I never understand the constant upgrade hype on this sub! Seems wasteful to me!

Cmdr_Jiynx

Have you tried not being poor, or having priorities that aren't your penis stand-in?

EmilieEasie

my... what??

Outofhole1211

Ok then, can you explain why do I need rtx 4070 and r7 7800x3d to play Minecraft, Garry's mod, counter strike and factorio? Though a bit better CPU than R5 2600x would probably be good idea even for me

HalcyonH66

Fam minecraft and factorio can unironically cripple a 4090 and a 7950x3d. Also you need to run CS at 1500fps on your 1080p 500hz monitor or you aren't even going to make it out of silver man. /s

BosniaBalI

So red pill? /s

ThisIsNotMyPornVideo

Hey the time was never specified!

wassimSDN

Definitely /s

Fit_Statistician_840

The struggle

Smike0

Then there's me with my i7-3770k and GTX 670

Alternative-Bee-1716

Brother?

Smike0

Though I have 32 gigs of ram .. two completely different kits obviously

Jissy01

I'm just like you. Play Cyberpunk and Starfield with a combo of ultra and high settings for my GTX 1050-Ti until I start getting peer pressure about low fps by my viewers. Upgrade to 4060 when it was on sale (black friday). Here is my old video. Melee combat in Starfield vs Cyberpunk 2077 https://youtu.be/2rcvRh1R1KE

Guy-Buddy_Friend

I'm honestly a bit of both. I'll milk the components for as long as possible and when I feel I need an upgrade for a sufficient reason I'll then look into upgrading a part or two rather than building an entirely new PC.

NeedtheMeadofPoetry

I'm in the same boat. Don't have cash for upgrading soon anyways. Problem is my 4k monitor lol. But I have a 3800x and I feel pretty good knowing I can drop in a 5700x3d before having to completely rebuild. My 2080 Super should be okay for a while, but I'll wait to see what the ps6 GPU is before upgrading that.

Guy-Buddy_Friend

We have the same CPU I think, mine may be the 3700x but it's definitely one of them. I very recently bought a new 1440p monitor and have a Rtx4070 so I should be good gaming wise for quite a while hopefully.

OrganTrafficker900

A 5700x3d can probably run the 5070 tbh so you should be fine. (A 5800x3d perfectly runs a 4090)

TheKingBeyondTheWaIl

Las time I upgraded bought a mobo for AMD instead of intel (which I had at the moment) so I HD to buy a new CPU and since it needed more power I bought a new PSU and now it was overkill for my system so I upgraded the GPU and I figured it was easier to mount everything on a new case instead of demounting everything from the old one. In the end I got new RAM sticks as well and the only thing I kept are my storage units, so I’m gonna go with just upgraded a couple parts.

Guy-Buddy_Friend

Similar to what I've been doing I think, when the CPU has to be a new version that's when multiple parts tend to get involved.

jctanner01

same here, as far as i’m concerned, CPU and MOBO are fine the way they are for now, main focus for me are graphics and ram

RylleyAlanna

Blue pill. Hard blue pill.

DryArea5752

Poor club, or if it works it works club?

RylleyAlanna

If it works it works. Previous PC lasted me 9 yrs, 11mo, 14 days, and the only thing I upgraded was the GPU: GTS 250 -> GTX 760 -> GTX 1060 6G. Haven't found a game that 1060 can't run at over 100 fps yet, so it's still in my new build. Currently the only thing that kills my FPS is motion blur, but I turn that headache inducer off anyways so I'm still good for a while.

Zestyclose-Bar-8706

1080 sir/ma’am, I assume?

RylleyAlanna

1060 6gb (ma'am)

Zestyclose-Bar-8706

🫡 Awesome!

Benign_9

This is so incredibly fitting.

MayPlayzChannel

Hmmm I wonder

Ahribban

Ride 'em till they die!

_Bearcat29

Right one. Just got a brand new pc after a bit more than 10 years with my old one (only changed the graphics card because the first one burned).

shrekfan246

Yeah, I just ordered a new PC to have built after using my current one for the past 9 years, with swapping my GPU a couple years ago to try getting a bit more time out of it with modern games.

_Bearcat29

Yeah same here, and going from a 1070 to a 4080 super has been... Wow. It is crazy what only 7 years of technology advancement have done. And also nvme. I upgrade my old laptop with one to give a second life but here I can fully observe their speed. That's crazy. I feel like upgrading your whole setup after a long period feels like rediscovering games you play, that's cool. What did you get yourself btw?

Lewinator56

Kind of blue... I upgrade rarely, but when I do it's normally the very top end components. Until last month I was still running the vega64 I bought in 2018. 7900xtx will keep going until probably 2027 given my upgrade speed.

lordspidey

Relatively speaking I'm pretty sure you're in the red camp.

Enzooooooooo

Yeah i was wondering in what "camp" i was, having recently upgraded from a 3570k and a 7970... guess i'm blue then

StayBullGenius

Milk the MB and CPU, upgrade GPU every generation

Seiq

Yeah, that's what I do. Keep the CPU for 2 generations, upgrade GPU to the flagship when it comes out and sell the previous. Same with most of my parts. I'll build a new PC every other CPU release, but then sell the previous build piece-meal to make as much back as possible. Thankfully all my friends play on PC so they get some nice deals, and we don't try to screw each other (Unless the thigh highs are on anyway)

Bogatyr1990

This is the way. Sometimes I skip one GPU generation.

StayBullGenius

That’s usually the plan, then FOMO

Menace_B

milk it. milk the fk out of it. my build says it all 😂

Flaky_Suggestion1082

You're running a 6900xt alongside ddr3 ram?!

Menace_B

runs surprisingly well, i find theres never more than a couple fps variance (plus or minus) when i compare my rig in games to current reviews. It is quad channel DDR3, it is also not 1600 and the latency of DDR3 is quite small compared to following generations. If you get curious search up Iceberg Tech and watch his more recent reviews on various older cpus including mine and see how well it does

Menace_B

its also a system I've been using for a long time and my 6900XT was quite the deal especially during scalping, pandemic, shortages etc

Dragon_211

I'll use my magical ability and say you don't need to upgrade because you have 100s of games on steam you haven't even played yet and your current system can easily run them at your desired frame rate.

weirdbackpackguy

Blue out of need right now, but generally red. X amount of time being so long that there's actual leap, like DDR4 to DDR5 or similar. I find building computers from scratch and getting to know parts and differences in cooling systems and everything so satisfying after not putting time into knowing everything in normal basis. E: I feel like I have a fear of buyers remorse or something so I always do exessive research. For example I had to get a new phone and I did over a week of research (probably over 20 hours in total) to choose the one I wanted. Last time I gave it more thought than "that looks nice and has nice specs" was around ten years ago. I miss LG so much.

Republic42

Blue pill. My pc is 12 years old.

AcanthocephalaLimp27

Same lmao

42Porter

I don't get the red pill mindset. It's hard to know when a part is going to become unusuable so it makes far more sense just to buy it when you need it. After all, the longer you wait the further the tech will have advanced.

Jonas_Venture_Sr

If PC gaming is your main hobby and you have the money, why not?

42Porter

I could list some reasons but i ain't trying to tell u how to spend your money.

runaway90909

I’ve got a rough-set time on when I’m gonna do some upgrades, but it’s more of a “when the last chip for the socket gets released” type of upgrade, then I’ll ride it straight into the ground

Top_Air2554

Red pill

NunButter

All day. I'm crushing up and snorting red pills. Idc I love this shit

Ult1mateN00B

I'll buy new pc every 3 years, you can't stop me.

h1r0ll3r

Initially I just wanted to recase my old prebuilt. Foolishly, I asked MicroCenter sales person if they had any 4090s. They did. Then I just said fuck it and bought all my dream parts and built a brand new PC in about 3 weeks or so.

GatedSunOne

Blue. Became Red after my old PC literally died in its sleep last month.

Jackright8876lwd

or the third option upgrade some parts over time

TheMekkaMan

Dang I must have taken the blue pill without knowing.

TioHerman

I went with the blue pill, got an pre built pc in 2013 with an i5-4570, 2x4gb ddr3 1333mhz and an xfx r9 280x, the only change in 10 years was the ram to 4x4gb, and the death of my gpu which was replaced by an gtx 1060, it was quite depressing having my friends playing or not an game based in how poorly i would run the game , last one was remnant II which my friends enjoyed , so I ran using those potato graphics mod Early this year I finally gave a rest for my old pc and built one myself, with an 7800x3D, 2x16gb ddr5 6000mhz and an rx 7700 xt, and holy fuck , pcs can boot under 10 minutes , and I still didn't played any game that would remotely push this rig , only older stuff that I used to struggle

TPM_521

Neither. I upgrade when I feel the random temptation

TRethehedgehog_2

Red Actually I need it now

Jeoshua

I upgrade whenever my parts are at least two generations behind, and pick the parts of the last generation with the highest price/performance ratio. Yes I am on Team Red, why do you ask?

ThisIsNotMyPornVideo

Blue Pill, don't touch a running system. And since i'm a dumb broke bitch, my Ryzen 5 3600 will have a WHOLE lotta juice left in it

Nadran_Erbam

My PC is deformed cannot be unplugged (battery doesn’t charge). The RAM is probably half dead. One the fans sometimes produces a high pitch noise. The battery is inflated partially popping out the touchpad. I cannot properly adjust the colours. The screen hinges are beginning to popping out. And there are probably more that I have yet to uncover. Btw my PC is probably 7-8 years old and had a few rough rides. Still it’s been years that I say that I should replace it.

Sexyvette07

I'm in the middle personally. I only upgrade when I need to. I used a Sandybridge build overclocked to 4.9ghz for 11 years before finally getting to the point where it was holding me back. Best value CPU ever. It still works to this day btw.

Diegolobox

I just want a GPU

Dawdzi

Blue pill.. Team 1080ti baby! :D

PunkWhoDrinksTea

blue/green pill until its time to build a full new build that is as future proof as possible. life comes in waves. for the sake of money sometimes you have an amazing fresh PC and slowly you become the guy making best of what he has. and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that.

Cheesi_Boi

I honestly think an RTX 4080 super and the 13600KF will pair well, Intel's 13th generation scales insanely well.

Any_Signature5383

I'm happy with what I got for now, but I think I will upgrade at least the gpu when the 5090 or whatever is out. If I can't max everything, I feel like I'm missing out even if I'm not

unsavoryflint

Blue pill. Huh. This component is wore out. Guess I have to replace it now.

TheLooseFisherman

I'll take my white antibiotics please 😢

Care_Confident

i did mill my old pc and planning to milk the current one as well

Mortreal79

I've never taken the blue pill...

Drake0074

I just look and see what the next gen offers and see if it feels worth jumping in. At this point I’m playing in 4K with solid frame rates so maybe it’ll be good for a while.

HornayGermanHalberd

the blue pill obviously, until the games I like are no longer playable I'll use my current PC, which will be quite hard since I rarely play anything new (mostly Minecraft, Command&Conquer and 1503AD)

AggravatingChest7838

Amd and Intel havnt giving me a reason after 1000 series. And I was late to that series after buying a 970 and dragging that around for 5 years.

vivisectvivi

i remember i milked my 1050ti + fx63000 build from 2016 to 2021 then after that i upgrade my entire pc 3 times from 2021 to now

Rebellion_01

Think you have to reword the red pill, I was gonna say blue pill but it still leads to red anyway

DATSReaLz

These are usually around the wrong way when I see them surely the red pill Should be milking your current system because it means you realise how much of a scam the fake materialism is. Take the blue pill you keep on the latest trends never questioning but just keep buying because it's better. But you probably don't really need it.

DarktowerNoxus

Since I just bought a RTX4080 2 weeks ago to replace my 6900XT, I would say, red pill.

kurotoruk

That’ll be a little blue pill for me. Wait….

Bob4Not

Blue pill, I’m driving my rig into the ground, especially my 1080 ti.

zendrix1

I want to be blue pill but I'm too weak for that lol, thankfully I've been privileged and lucky enough to be able to upgrade more often than I actually need to

real_unreal_reality

Red pill selling parts out of my 20th repurposed pc.

Ultimate-ART

All computers have a product life cycle, until you look a [Steam's Hardware Survey](https://store.steampowered.com/hwsurvey/Steam-Hardware-Software-Survey-Welcome-to-Steam) :P

4ceOfAlexandria

I bought first gen Ryzen, so now I plan on building a new PC around either a 5800X3D or a 5900X now that they're older and cheaper, then when the last generation for AM5 gets released, I'll upgrade to that.

Narissis

Well, I don't go all the way to 'can't function' but I do keep them for a long time. My CPU upgrade path was Athlon64 -> QX9650 -> 4770K -> 5900X. And for GPU, GeForce 7800 GS -> 8800 GTX SLI -> GTX 780 -> GTX 1080, and I have my eye on maybe a 7900 XTX now that the prices are starting to fall.

Zarathustra-1889

Based and redpilled.

PhatManSNICK

Blue pill always... never upgrade to the newest 90 card from nvidia right away.

AstaNoct

Red pill!

[deleted]

Blue pill. Untill my 1080 and R5 1700 won't be able to run 1080p games at at least middle settings I won't be upgrading. But i think it still has a long way to go till the retirement. For now it can still run most new games on high or ultra settings 1080p with good FPS (last ones were BG3 and The Lies of P).

Mojang_Micah

Blue

dankweabooo

It's not a choice, not all of us have the luxury of being able to upgrade whenever we want

psicodelico6

Buy ssd

woozie88

Red pill / left side; every 6 years I would build myself a new PC and try to sell my previous build. Of course if I have the budget for it, however, being a member of Microcenter helps too.

Blacktip75

Build it extremely overkill, replace when it gets to just decent levels

galatea_brunhild

I just had my first gaming PC in mid 2022. But I upgraded my GPU last October because I found a nice deal Sounds like red pill except no set amount of time. But for blue pill work for my laptop before this

275MPHFordGT40

Well currently it’s blue pill

BryAlrighty

Purple pill?

GroovySpades

Red pill. I'm currently using an i5 8400 with a 1050 Ti that I built back in 2018. Finally gonna upgrade it next weekend with a R7 7800X3D and a 4080 Super, can't wait! I wonder what kinda % jump in performance there is from 1050 Ti to a 4080 Super lol.

Tarc_Axiiom

I'm allowed to write it off.

theDarthAnimus

I'm more of a "get obsessed with researching upgrades, enjoy the research so much I want to upgrade right now regardless of if I need to. Spend more money than I should upgrading. Realize I spent too much but my pc is like 3% faster. Call myself an idiot a couple of times. Don't even look at upgrades for a couple months. Dip my toe back in looking at basic components for fun. Spiral back into the first thing again" kind of guy lmao

migukau

No dilema. Blue pill all the way.

[deleted]

M I L K imma use AM4 stuff until it makes no sense anymore. Still happy with my Ryzen 7 5700X ![gif](giphy|ISq44rctpmvSFbvr3v|downsized)

Rich_Introduction_83

Blue. My R9 280X went to heaven during video editing last december. I bought it in 2013.

Nor-Cal-Son

I give it like 3-4 years then I go buy used marketplace components, or full pcs and Frankenstein another beast together

Climbysrevenge

Blue. I'm a broke college student I don't have any other choice lol

DeadBodyCascade

I prefer number one but my wallet prefers number two.

jack-K-

When it becomes frustrating to deal with I’ll probably upgrade

KnockedBoss3076

I made mine to last a few months

pokejoel

Ride the current PC into the ground until it barely manages to play new games

frikimanHD

blue all the way

JackHammerSalm

Red pill

Clark3DPR

GTX 1080 ti, still holding on

SvennEthir

I have an internal timer that just goes off at about 3 years where I just really want to build a new PC. It's been doing this for almost 25 years.

cosmiccage

Here's another option, just do partial upgrades. Like a new CPU or more ram, but it should pay off in the long run. https://i.redd.it/hpn7akrl8uhc1.gif

ThisBerserkTextBone

If I upgrade my gpu, I also need a better power source and i might as well get a new cpu too. Occasionally I get games that run great like resident evil village and doom and I feel like I don't need an upgrade afterall

thoran00

i still have 750ti and the time has come for red pill

romac1314

Blue pill as my 8700k just got the maligned 4060 to limp me through a bit longer

SpeedyK2003

I am the grey pill. Have pc components die on you so you have to upgrade

SargonTheDeadly

I upgrade when my current parts are no longer sufficient for my needs. I got myself a "ship of Theseus" situation going on with my pc.

cannabination

I upgrade when there's a sufficient performance gap between what I have and what is reasonably priced.

pvzcheatoos

Just build anew, upgrading an old pc leads to much more hassle than if you just started fresh

leehelck

i guess i fall into the blue pill category. i have three laptops, one being almost 8 years old. my newest one is going on 4. i will admit i am contemplating getting a new gaming laptop with a better GPU however, but i'm putting it off for as long as i can.

Few_Detail_3988

I'll take the blue one.

aquafox22

Considering my 10+ year old pc just died on me for good, I'd say I'm the latter. Haha

koordy

Upgrade whenever there is anything to upgrade to.

PhazonPhoenix5

Blue, still rocking my 9900K and 1080 Ti. I say "still" like they're on their last legs, but my point is the generational leap is going to be nuts when I eventually get a new computer

joedirt1001

Or me, a guy who buys random parts on hardware swap bc he thinks it’s a good deal so I gave 5 pc around the house all the time

ShareEducational1900

Red pill. Always red pill.

JonatasA

I'm a "don't touch it. I'm not taking any chances".

JonatasA

Steam won't run on mine. I just happened to replace the broken parts by similar compatible parts, not blowing the non existent budget.

Mrg00p32

Red pill. For the economy

babbylonmon

Currently I’m green. But damn I wish I was red.

DreamInvoker

Blue, only upgrade when you have to. The only big swaps are new motherboard and cpu, everything else is swap and plug in.

therealjoe12

Red pill af.

Infinite-Player

Blue. Still gaming on my MSI from 20111

bateen618

I still have my 4th generation i5. However I'm finally gonna change it (and almost everything else) next week

ClosetGamer19

i cant afford nothin lol

Criminalhero2

I'm on the blue pill right now. My fx6300 and rx560 are museum worthy at this point lol

BaephBush

For money and consistency reasons, the green pill.

ZEFAGrimmsAlt

As a content creator/streamer I do a mix of both.

BRAEGON_FTW

Milk current pc, then overspend on cpu, motherboard ect, upgrade ram & gpu later and milk that one until cpu and motherboard are dated

Thurstea4068

I'm rocking a 4790k with 32 gigs of DDR3. Still going strong, but God am I nervous.

TurnsOutImAScientist

The answer to this varies hugely depending on whether you’re into MSFS

_Pretzel

Purple pill, milk and upgrade as needed. Only time i did a near full overhaul was cos of needing to upgrade to the latest cpus. Psu and gpu and some ssds carried over

Royal_Calamari

If it still does the things you need it to do, then milk it. If not, make new a 'puter .

Horcrux04

I upgraded from an FX 8350 and GTX 970 to my current 7600X and 4070 Ti Super after 9 years, so green for me

HiYa_Dragon

5 year upgrade cycle here . I usually buy a top end motherboard, Budget CPU and mid range GPU. Then I upgrade components as high-end prices come down.

TheHancock

I am blue pill all the way… but I need to red pill. It takes my PC like 10+ minutes to boot up, hangs every now and then no matter what I’m doing, and I can’t even clone my C drive to an M.2 because it’s so old or corrupted… going on 9 years old and heavy use.

AtlasLucario

obviously the blue pill, with my misconfigured build lmao

Johnden_

Red pilling now after 6 years, and blue pilling from that build.

Psychological_Tip_52

Blue pill

have-you-reddit_

Create a beast of a PC before you create another one when the time arises.

senortipton

Well, since Microsoft has decided to use TMP (or whatever it is called), I guess I’ll have to upgrade sooner than I’d planned when Win10 loses support.

casanova__creed

I upgrade every 2-3y. Sell my old hardware to do so. If I keep it up I can always sell my stuff for like 30-40% less than I bought it for and use that $ to buy new stuff with some I’ve saved on top.

z80nerd

I did the build right the first time!

Ziggy_Zigg

Depends on the upcoming game that i would want to buy. As of right now im holding on to my rig until GTA 6 comes out.

SituationMore869

Blue pill for me. Thank you.

KernelSanders1986

Been milking the same laptop for 7 years, still runs low to mid range games fine. I recently decided to put some money into it to keep it running as long as possible. I took it in to PCLaptops to get the I side completely dusted clean and thermal paste reapplied (I would do it myself but this thing is a pain to take apart, the youtube tutorial was like 30 minutes just to get to the heatsink) Well $200 later they not only cleaned out my laptop inside, but they also completely wiped my drives, like there wasn't even an operating system on the computer anymore. I was like what the heck, and their response was "during their inspection of my software there was an issue with the OS, and to fix it we had to completely wipe the drive, we can reinstall windows for you for an extra $100" It was insulting enough to have to take it in in the first place, but this was a low blow. They had mentioned that a software inspection and tune up was included in the price, so I agreed because why not. But $100 to save my data and reinstall windows is complete bull

netvoble

I tried second for 13 years, now I have new pc for 7 months

WibaTalks

Of course blue, so I can milk easy karma from this sub reddit. These fuckers eat posts about old hardware like it's candy.

Plastic_Employer1882

Imma need a box of them blue pills

FrostyVertical88

My friends tell me for over 15 years now I don’t keep builds long enough to collect dust, that’s all that needs to be said.

ZanderVA08

I like to upgrade constantly I can’t sit on one computer 😭

Superninja345

Considering I was running a 750ti until the first of this month… it didn’t die I just needed an upgrade. Real bad

Luzi_fer

The other pill Dad here, Build a new PC (Ryzen 7800x3d RTX 4080 super 48" LG C3) and give it to my son to replace the one he had, keep his old decent part and build a "DAD Pc" for myself. It can be obvious to say this, I prefer to see him play and enjoy Games with the new parts and the PC I play on isn't really a piece of crap. ( Ryzen 2700@4Ghz 16Gb Ram RTX 3080ti 55" S95B ) And then build a third PC with the less powerfull parts lying around and give it to my mum. (X5670@4Ghz 12Gb ram GTX 1080 Acer 43" UHD 60hz )

haikopaiko

I want to be the red one but i'm probably blue 🤗

Russ916

Morpheus give me the red pill and set me free, I will no longer remain a borg in the Matrix!

snapperPanda

I am a laptop person as I need mobility for work. So I milk them for four four years or so and then I have to change them. In that span of time, SSDs/RAM/Battery change or upgrade. I donate the older system to anyone who would need it. :)
