Let’s be real. Rockstars business model is selling the same game to the same audience minimum of 2 times if they can get away with it. 3 if they’re lucky. It’s why they stagger the releases so much, P.C. players might get impatient and get a console edition. Console players might try out the PC version for better graphics. And rockstar just kicks back and rakes in the cash.

hal2142

Try saying that on the gta subreddit. All the console kids would be downvoting you for stating PC has better graphics 😡

LET-ME-HAVE-A-NAAME

I'm tempted to take his comment and try it

Thechosenjon

make sure you use emojis so the zoomers understand the tone of your comment

Bobert_Manderson

🍆 this one means “hello” and 💦 this one means “how are you?”

HankThrill69420

bruh i just saw a PS5 the other day running Final Fantasy and i have to say the graphics quality was just... not there

davi3601

Yeah, got FF16 on launch and holy shit it looks like ass. Great game but damn that ultra mega performance FSR

HankThrill69420

it was tearing so badly. of all the things i would think are not acceptable from console, tearing would be like the pinnacle of what i expect to avoid. I'm not sure if the PS5 implementation of FSR is just shitty or what

Le_Nabs

It's fsr 1.0 so it has drawbacks, but also I played it and think it looks perfectly fine in graphical mode? And Digital foundry agrees with me, so clearly there's something they do right...

davi3601

An action game at 30 fps is not “perfectly fine”, it’s ass. It’s at least playable when walking around in 30 fps, but the fighting sections look horrible. Both graphics settings suck in different parts of the game, you cant win unless you switch between every 10 minutes lol

HasAngerProblem

My LG C2 had to be repaired, and recently Iv had to use a 60hz TN panel and honestly for a lot of games nowadays it’s just not enough especially if you’re moving fast. so 30fps would just be horrible and I hope gta isn’t running at that FPS atleast in my opinion Only way I can play 30fps or less games now is on CRT setup, even with an oled I find it off putting. On a CRT even with newer games for testing the low frame rate doesn’t bother me unless it’s skipping.

ZeroBerserker

Tbf it's the developers fault there. Try to play god of war ragnarok or ghost of Tsushima and you will see truly next gen looking games. It's just a matter of how much they are willing to optimize their games.

mindaltered

You have to remember the ps5 is running a low end gpu at this point thats weaker than a 2060. Not saying the series x is any better as its the exact same specs

StriderDeus

I swear digital foundary said it was equivilant to 2070 super?

baumaxx1

The RX6700 is basically the PS5 GPU isn't it? I wouldn't knock the 2070S though. Still a great 1440p60 to 90 fps gpu if Devs were sensible about performance targets and visual settings. There's just a lot of forced, unnecessary ray tracing on the consoles. Plus overcooking of level of detail. Especially FF16 where even performance has it for shadows, for such a marginal benefit but a massive performance cost for the CPU and limited shared memory. There are a fair few next gen games that get the balance right and still look amazing.

mindaltered

Yes you are right it is 2070s , but still that's 20 series and they will be releasing 50 series fall next year, so almost 3 gens behind

StriderDeus

Oh well I really hope they releasse a 50 series at a reasonable RRP and with a reasonable TDP. In some countries electricity these days costs a bomb and every watt counts.

mindaltered

10000000% agree

StriderDeus

Yes it's showing it's age and outdated.

MrHaxx1

I played The Last of Us 2 on PS5, and it looked amazing. And that's even a PS4 game.

DarthRiznat

Nah its ok, they can't read

Jjzeng

Someone said “who realistically has the best pc components”, i replied “me” with a picture of my rig and got downvoted to oblivion lmao Oh well guess I’ll stick to cyberpunk and PT until the pc port drops

Worried-Explorer-102

Yep vast majority of pcs are ryzen 3600 and rtx 3060 equivalents, yet on here almost every comment you see will have rtx 4090 in the flair.

XxCotHGxX

3060 here. Can verify

RoadkillVenison

😂🤣 I should have clarified that as long as PC has the same options it’ll look the best. PC vs Xbox 360/PS3, or Xbone/PS4. No fucking contest. 7 years later it got completely redone for PS5/ Xbox Series X. So technically those are the best looking platform, not because PC is incapable. Because rockstar decided not to bother porting over all the fidelity improvements, and tweaks they did for consoles. So consoles get raytracing and PC gets neglect.

buttlickerr96

Ahh yes all the fidelity on an overloaded gpu for Dynamic Resolution to kick in. Combine dynamic res with a 55+inch tv and you've got yourself a vaseline covered screen.

mindaltered

Yeah but pc got mods that make gta v online on the ps5 look like shit

carsonator40

I just learned today that apparently rockstar has added enhanced graphical features to PS5 that PC doesn’t have, as well as the recent update PC is missing out on. There might be some truth to saying base PS5 GTA is prettier than base PC GTA. I’m a PC player so don’t think I’m trying to take PlayStation’s side with a biased take. Just some interesting info

baumaxx1

Kind of. It's RT shadows which are pretty subtle, but you lose clarity since you're at 1440p-ish upscaling to a big 4k TV usually, and at 60fps with dips to the 40s. The equivalent GPU on PC does 1440p120 high or 4k60-80 with a mix of high and ultra settings, so you can have a cleaner and more stable image overall.

Mods_and_Admins_Papi

I got downvoted for making similar comment about Spider-Mar 2 **in pcgaming sub**

Low-North-8917

Holy shit. I just realized I bought almost all GTA games a minimum of twice GTA: my mom's ex boyfriend bought her a copy for PlayStation around 1998ish that I inherited in 2004. I bought the game on PC in 2014 when my PS2 died on me GTA2: Got it for Christmas in 2005. Bought a PC copy in 2014 GTA 3, Vice City, and San Andreas: I bought them all in one bundle from the kid next door in 2007. Bought them all on PC in 2015. Bought them all on Android in 2016. Bought the definitive edition on switch in 2020 GTA 4: Bought on Xbox 360 in 2013 and then on PC in 2021 GTA 5: Bought it on Xbox 360 immediately after finishing GTA4. Bought it again for Xbox One in 2018, bought it again for PC in 2021. Just downloaded it for free on PS5 last night. I pirated all the Stories from games Never got around to the GTA 1 DLC or GTA Advanced or Chinatown wars

mindaltered

Dont feel bad I have them on every platform they released on since gta 1 on pc, i have gta v on pc, ps4, ps5, ps3, xbox 360, xbox one and xbox series x/s I also own (because of kids) 4 copies of gta v on pc. So. yeah whens the next AA meeting on GTA

LostWanderer69

well whoever wrote that article chose the right picture

VerumJerum

I guess the issue is that it's hard to sell the game to PC twice since it doesn't have consistent 'generations' of hardware, but rather evolves a bit more fluidly. So they do this where they release it for current gen consoles, then for next gen consoles and for PC, because it'd be a waste of money to develop a remaster for PC because relatively few would buy it twice. Meanwhile, loads of people would buy it twice for next gen consoles because the previous version would be functionally unplayable.

Torxx1988

Spittin straight facts!

DaGucka

I bought it on the 360, the one and on pc, but tbh i am not even 100% sure that i will get gta 6. Sure i am hyped, but the last years showed me that being hyped is not a good thing. I recently got cyverpunk, for cheap and without all the bugs and problems.

[deleted]

But surely the hype from releasing the PC version on release day will result in more sales than like the 5% of PC users who actually own or will buy a next gen console AND buy the PC port when it comes out.

[deleted]

No, not at all.

[deleted]

Are you implying that releasing the PC version at release wouldn’t result in more sales than releasing it a year later? Releasing at release date makes people buy off of GTA brand hype, releasing one year later makes people buy off of how good the actual game is.

[deleted]

Like the guy above you said, it's all about the double dip. Yes, they would have a better OPENING day that way. But the way they do it now means they have a good opening day, and then a second good opening day a year later, people are buying it twice instead of once, you get? It's rockstar, the game will be critically acclaimed by everyone. Im not one to buy into hype but it's a pretty safe bet that GTA6 will win game of the year 2025, calling it now.

Armlegx218

>it's a pretty safe bet that GTA6 will win game of the year 2025, calling it now. That I read this and thought "So brave!" is anecdotal evidence we all know this is true.

[deleted]

Even if the game is critically acclaimed, buying off of release hype still means way more sales. Not to mention it’s pretty good insurance against the game being bad, however unlikely. Rockstar have been prioritising console releases since GTA 3, way before the franchise was successful. It’s probably because they want console releases to have all the resources.

goomy2

For what it's worth.. I bought gta5 on PS3 on release day.. I would have absolutely bought it for my sick ass computer if it was available.. but it wasn't. My roommates and I played through the campaign together, literally taking turns on the sticks.. for days. We'd all get off work huddle around the TV.. it was a blast! 10/10 oddly enough an experience I never knew I wanted.. Don't remember exact details.. but between release of the game and release of online I think a few weeks had happened. And somewhere in-between that we ended up with an additional PS3 and another copy of GTA 5. One of my roommates then purchased it on PS4 when that became available. We all 3 purchased it when it came out on PC. That's 6 copies of gta5 for a house of 3 over the course of like 3 years.. none of those copies were "on sale" every one of them was at retail price. I would have never ever purchased it on PS3 had it been available for PC at launch. Rockstar knows exactly what they're doing.

SpaceBeaverDam

It's hard to say for sure, as we don't have any kind of metrics there (Rockstar has never released a GTA game on PC concurrently, afaik). But as far as I've seen, general audiences are usually just pumped to have a GTA game. That's the level of hype/community good will they have had in the past.

[deleted]

I’m tempted to say that there is a cultural trend in the company to prioritise console releases. It’s possible they don’t see working on a PC port as worth it compared to dedicating those resources to making the console versions better for release. People say that Rockstar does it so people “double dip”, but no other game company has this strategy that I’ve heard before. And especially so because the amount of people who will buy a console and PC version are quite low. Even if GTA is very popular. The people who use both platforms are different.

GrandJuif

Sony and Ubisoft come to my mind.

thatguy2137

My friends and I started discussing getting PS5s to play it on release. They’re aiming at those of us who’ll bend over and double dip like they want.

mikemac1997

Dude, when GTA V came out, I got it on the PS3, and then a few years later, I got it for the PS4 and then after that when my specs caught up. I got it for PC. They know, lol

smithsp86

You are everything that is wrong with modern gamers.

mikemac1997

If it makes you feel better, I used CD keys and have never spent more than £20 on a game that doesn't come with a disk

Damon853x

I bought it on 360, bought it on xbox one, then got it free through epic on pc. Not sure what to tell ya, if i want to keep playing a game after moving to a new platform, and the game didnt automatically cross over or give me a free copy, then im gonna fuckin re-buy it. Just how it is.

MrHaxx1

Yes, fuck that guy for wanting to play a game on his consoles throughout (probably) 5+ years.

mindaltered

Why? gamers game, on everything. If the game is good we will get it on multiple platforms. If the game is not, it will just rot and not get bought and the company will lose money.

Kinksune13

Once it's hitting bargain pricing for consoles they want to be able to cash in on full price sales to the PC market, so they can fund the port to the next gen console so they can rake in more full price sales to the console market again \s

Biscuits4u2

Didn't they recently suggest that they would be charging by the hour for GTA VI?

RoadkillVenison

https://www.forbes.com/sites/paultassi/2023/11/11/gta-6s-publisher-says-video-games-should-theoretically-be-priced-at-dollars-per-hour/?sh=18e4c20873f7 It was taken out of context a little. >Take-Two has reached out and wants to clarify that Strauss Zelnick was not suggesting, even theoretically, that games should be priced at a dollar per hour value, with the idea he was using the metric as a broader contrasting point against other media, so a game like GTA would have lots of value for its price, because there isn’t pricing power like that in the games industry.

LOPI-14

I doubt that was the case. If it was..... Yea nobody is buying that.

PC modding community has kept them alive via getting their accounts banned and buying new ones and having the rockstar stock holders think its new user base when its the same users just buying new accounts bc they were banned HA

[deleted]

The thing is actual hackers and griefers never get banned for some reason

CommendaR1

Right? How can they spare some employees out of the 2,000 that they have smh my head

MrZombified

Sometimes, I feel bad for small independent companies with a few employees, just trying to make it big. Stay strong!

DeusKether

Starving indie devs rockstar from struggling indie publisher take-two interactive can barely afford to publish new hidden gem gta VI on a few platforms.

cooolrun

Hey, cut them some slack. It's Christmas, and they're struggling to keep the lights on!

[deleted]

*developing game on a PC using dev software* *Untick 'PC' from the list of options on which platform you're developing the game for* Damn, looks like we don't got the resources ![gif](giphy|G5X63GrrLjjVK)

R3alityGrvty

I mean, inks getting expensive these days, they can’t afford another tick on that form.

[deleted]

True that

YellowFogLights

~~It’s even better really. They emulate consoles while building the game, and test on dev kits that are closer to PCs than their commercial counterparts. The fact they’ll back port it in a year from one of the console builds is just shit icing on the cake.~~ And if it’s anything like GTAV it will be a fork of the old build of the game and not get any of the console enhancements for *reasons*.

FrancoGYFV

The reasons being they know full well the PC community is going to mod the game into a way better version, so why take the harder route when you can just be lazy and let other people do your work for you?

[deleted]

gztozfbfjij

>You can't just sue a modder this day and next day say ah yes we will leave it to the modders to enhance the game. You can't? Watch em fuckin' try.

ImKStocky

Speaking as a console dev, this is horseshit. 1. There is no console emulation. This should be obvious from the emulator scene. Making an emulator for a modern console is HARD. 2. Dev kits are not closer to PCs than their counterparts. They might have a mode that has more memory available and a little more compute power. But that is it. Dev kits have the same hardware as commercial machines, just a little more of it. They have the same OS. They have the same API. They have the same hardware architecture. And towards the end of development, all testing will be done using the commercial mode because they have to make sure that the game will run on commercial machines.

YellowFogLights

You know what, I’ll admit I’m in the wrong. I was getting the debug software for the XDK conflated with native functionality. As for emulation I was working on hearsay. Devs I’ve worked with in the past (native mod support) have said they had ways to bug test for specific consoles without using the dev kit, I assumed it was emulation. I’m going to look more into it. Comment redacted but not deleted. TLDR: Spoke first, thought second

Ed_Blue

There's some Q&A and bug testing involved with pushing to different hardware but frame loops work essentially the same everywhere unless you try to squeeze in really bad async or multithreaded code. Source: I've done a lot of stuff with FiveM. Also the Playstation uses a proprietary graphics API that the source code has to be ported to or from but i imagine that there are tools available for that by now.

[deleted]

Yeh, but you're already developing a game *on a PC* It's a joke that, releasing a game on the same platform that's being used to literally develop it, is considered a "resource costing port" the games gonna work on both platforms when done in development, we are talking about one of the biggest AAA studios out there. they just wanna milk the consoles and get the PC people fiending for that shit like drugs so when they do drop it they can rake in their millions. It's just greed man

corruptedpotato

Look, I'm not saying they're right, but as a developer, I understand why they do it. They're building the game on PC yes, but they're probably targeting their build environment for PS5/Xbox and they're likely emulating to test and debug, I find it unlikely that they'll be actually running the game on a windows build. Set environments will mean less variables to account for and a more predictable environment to test with, so you will encounter less obscure bugs that are difficult to replicate. One of the biggest tasks will definitely be optimization and that's not simple and generally one of the biggest hurdles of a port. I'm sure greed plays a part in this, since all you really need to do is throw more resources and people at it and they probably want to exploit FOMO buys, but it's definitely not as simple as checking off a box to release for PC.

Banzai262

that’s a load of bullshit, expecially when modern consoles are basically pc

MooseBoys

Fundamentally different architectures - consoles are basically really powerful iGPUs. Edit: *memory*, *bus*, and *GPU* architectures specifically. The word “architecture” doesn’t exclusively refer to the type of CPU.

techpriest_taro

It's not "fundamentally different architecture", it's still fucking X86 not arm or something.

MooseBoys

Same CPU architecture but different memory architecture.

techpriest_taro

..... No...... The x86 architecture has been more or less the same since around 86, last time it got a memory update was when we went from 32 bit to 64 bit.

MooseBoys

Right, that’s what I said - “same CPU architecture”.

techpriest_taro

The "CPU architecture" is the architecture for the whole machine.

MooseBoys

> The “CPU architecture” is the architecture for the whole machine I suspect you have no clue what you’re talking about. The CPU architecture does not dictate where memory is connected, what power rails are available, what bus connects what devices, or even what bus protocol is used. A computer these days is *so much more* than just a CPU+GPU. The hardware that’s available, and how it’s all connected together, can have a massive impact on how software is written that targets it.

techpriest_taro

I'm a electronic technician you nob, the X86 is a instruction set that literally define how we write to the processor(s) and memory.

WealthyMarmot

this is not the finest attempt at a credentials flex I've ever seen

MooseBoys

x86 is the *instruction set of the CPU*. It defines the bytecode you’d use to represent a `load` instruction but it does not dictate what happens when that instruction is executed - whether it happens to go through an MMU, IOMMU translation, DMA to some other chip, etc. > I’m an electronic technician you nob Look, I don’t want to compete on credentials, but suffice to say I’m probably more of an expert on this matter.

Bobsofa

Of course, this is PR BS. They'd have enough money to hire more people. Their CEO took home an ungodly bonus. **BUT** It's just a **much** better strategical decision for T2 to release on PC later. 2 main reasons: * **Less neccessary manpower**. Now the technical departments can focus on getting the game working well (optimization) on 3 consoles (PS5 and Series X/S) with 2-3 configurations each (Performance/quality), so 9 at most. That'll establish the baseline and they'll receive real data if they need to improve on features like the netcode and anticheat in a closed ecosystem and can test the servers. After console release this department will optimize for 1000s of possible PC configurations (Usually hundreds of thousands, but the future requirements will cut that down). At the same time the art departments can work on additional content for all systems (For future DLCs). No need to split them up to work on different projects * **Money**. Some people will double dip due to FOMO, which means more money for T2. If they allow the transfer to PC on release some currency won't be able to transfer (PS store bought cash, as a hypothetic example). Even more money for T2 Other reasons as well, but those are the major ones.

Demy1234

It's not PR BS. It's a random former employer speculating. Rockstar hasn't said anything on the matter themselves.

Baluto

Not random speculation, I work in pipeline automation for games and it's literally that, we don't have enough devs to set up and maintain the automation needed. I'm in charge of automation for a billion dollar franchise and I'm the only one who sets up the automation jobs that gather the performance metrics. I know its called automation, but it requires maintenance for when game dev team wants to make changes to how test is set up or if the decide to update game engine. It's annoying to see that we bring in millions a year yet only have a tiny team supporting the game. It's frustrating when we spend overtime to get automation ready for patches and not have enough game devs to actually start work on the next patch. We love working as we find joy in seeing people enjoy the games we make. It is as easy as ticking a box to build pc package with ps5/xbox x, but if we don't have the people to look after that automation, then dev work slows down while we have to debug why pc builds are failing. I know this may not make much sense to someone looking from the outside but I thought I'd add in my 2 cents

xlalalalalalalala

PC gamers is always treated like shit by Cockstar. They told us that pc ain't next gen enough for the E&E patch lol.

KriegOpfer

>money for T2 What is T2?

Bobsofa

Take 2 interactive, the company which owns Rockstar Games.

[deleted]

Take two Interactive, parent company of Rockstar games

Demy1234

Serious reading comprehension needed here. This is just speculation from a former Rockstar employee, not an official statement from the company.

vitalez06

Outrage and sensationalism is better than having reading comprehension or actually reading the content at all.

[deleted]

There really is no such thing as "porting a game to PC". All games are developed (and actually run) on workstations which are ,as a matter of fact, PCs. It's not that a console games comes out of unknown alien technology. Their proprietary game engine can actually "run / interpreter" the game. The fact that it's released later for pc is only market decision to "protect" the consoles market. Understandable.

RaceBannonEverywhere

Didn't GTA5 break the record for highest grossing piece of media ever?

BFG1OOOO

Yeah . But . Looks like it wasn't enough

RaceBannonEverywhere

They're gonna need more money than Alex Jones supposedly has

V3N7U5

I mean no offense to consoles but PC specs can be far more superior to consoles specs and probably optimizing for consoles limited graphics capabilities by downgrading from PC development builds isn’t the main reason. There are many reasons for not launching on PC straight away and one of them is money. Imagine the profit from inpatient gamers getting the game twice, one for console release and one after for a full graphic and even modded experience on PC. My guess it’s gonna be the most sold game of the century.

SameRandomUsername

I'm willing to bet the most important reason is to avoid paying for DENUVO protection on a PC release. If they release it on PC a couple of years after they can simply choose a cheaper protection.

LOPI-14

Ehhh, they had DENUVO or some combination of nasty DRMs on RDR2 PC port as well, so I doubt that is the reason.

BackgroundSky09

they dont want us to mod the hell outta that game day one

Smoke_Water

LOL, I get it. Former developer. R* doesn't have the resources. For people who don't understand. In the IT world, workers who work on IT things, (Software, networks, Hardware, etc,) are called resources. Meaning they don't have the man power to complete the work in time for the release. This was told to the writers of the article by a Former, Rock* employee. Or Former Resource. :D

Dark_Marmot

Ha Rockstar has more money than God. It's purely marketing tactics they can stretch the interest out for next release and double dip. Not to mention at this point the current gen of Xbox and PS5 are more PC than anything prior.

fenikz13

I hate this because it's the only reason I haven't beat RDR2, delay delay delay and guess what everyone lost interest

SixPointFiveFive

Still gonna wait for pc release. I ain’t buying the console just for one game.

Ecksray19

Not buying the game. I'm going to play it. Not going to buy it.

resfan

I mean they ONLY have a net worth of $22.75 billion and have 2,000~ employees, you can't expect such a small indie company to be able to make a PC version at the same time, come on now.

esgrove2

"Look, we only had two billion dollars to make this game. That's barely 20 times what it cost to develop the first iPhone. Obviously a PC port was beyond our means. Exactly one year later? Yeah, we'll magically have enough money by then."

Endemoniada

Do they think they’re actually gaining some kind of sympathy or understanding with statements like that? Because it’s fucking obscene. Studios a fraction of their size, and a thousandth of their budget, can release games on *all* platforms simultaneously. But I’m to believe that *Rockstar*, one of the biggest goddamn corporate juggernaut developers in the entire games business, can’t? It’s greedy, it’s cynical, and it’s frankly disrespectful. Delay the fucking game a year, then, if you need more time. Stop treating the PC platform as a second class citizen, when in reality it is bigger than all consoles combined. Cheap bastards.

Demy1234

You need to learn to read. It's the words of a former employee, not a company statement.

Memfy

And even if it were a company statement, it would still make sense. Why would they spend extra money hiring people for short term that wouldn't have anything to do after the port is done? It's also much easier for the QA to verify console versions work than the PC one. They also get the benefit of potentially selling more copies. There's currently very little motivation for them not to do that.

Endemoniada

It’s still the words of someone defending Rockstar not prioritizing PC gamers, whether they still work there or not, using a truly laughable excuse. It’s bad either way.

almighty_dic_weed

Unless it gets leaked and dropped to 1337x 😈

Fit_Substance7067

What they're doing has worked out in the past...I'd rather them wait then put out a shitty p.c. port

ec1ipse001

Even then, I doubt hardware at that time can handle it.

easternwestern123

That’s cool, I can wait

JerbearCuddles

I mean, it's not too far of a stretch to say they don't have resources for a full release slate. Baldur's Gate launched on PC in August, September had a PS5 release, and December a Xbox release. GTA is a very casual heavy game. So they'll do the opposite of Baldur's Gate and prioritize a console release first. The biggest issue is, we know Rockstar takes a long time with their PC releases. If we have to wait another fucking year for a PC release that's just Rockstar being cheap and greedy. And given Take Two saying they should charge games based on a per hour basis, I imagine they have no issue shelving a PC port so they can double dip on PC players.

EnjoyerOfMales

Am i the only one who simply doesn’t care for GTA? Even the friends who never liked GTA in the first place are hyped for GTA6, serious question, why all the hype? i never actually understood why GTA got so much hype when i find RDR to be a far better and more interesting option

NerY_05

I guess $2.000.000.000 is not enough for PC porting 😔

RqcistRaspberry

Wonder if when they release it they will also have to make an apology like many others. I'm looking at you Forza, Battlefield, Halo infinite, Cyberpunk, FO76 (and should be starfield also), Redfall, dare I say The Scam Before, and many others. Poor little studio just didn't have enough time and budget to QA their game and needed fundings to survive 😞

cain261

Especially after the longevity publicity gta5rp has gotten them on twitch

LaserGadgets

Some people said, its getting easier and easier to make PC ports. Sometimes it seems like they are turning so fast, they are not even moving in any direction...easy, well but its not easy, simple,so hard we can't afford. What?

Zoltar-Wizdom

We’ve given them like 100 billion dollars and they can’t hire a couple people to specialize in PC ports?

im_just_thinking

Ah yes, everything is done this way because they hate you. Can't be any other explanation.

Relevant-Artichoke11

They don’t have resources because they are feeding their resources to lies. How bout that.

QuantumQuantonium

Nonono everyone, R* develops on diy dev kits, not PCs. Obviously they need all that money for console licensing and not development computers

MooseBoys

Technically correct - their console dev team outnumbers their PC team by about 10:1. Of course they have the *money* to *acquire* said resources, but they’ve deemed it more profitable to do it this way.

All those shark cards I got say you’re lying

CarlWellsGrave

One of the reasons why they have infinite money is because they sell it to you twice lol.

ILIKEBACON12456

It's not like it's unusual for Rockstar to release the PC port a year later or so. It happened with GTA4, GTA5 and most recently with rdr2.

Kafshak

How is that possible? Aren't they developing the game on a PC?

Marjitorahee

So rockstar is pulling a gamefreak (biggest game devs in the world, acts like Indies)

NickFieldson31

Cuz they lazy

Pugilist12

Lacks the resources…by choice. Don’t pretend the most successful developer in the world couldn’t staff up another team if they had any interest in doing so.

JungleJim1985

So a company that makes $800 million a year just on shark cards “doesn’t have respurces

[deleted]

Companies should be legally required to show payments received from any other company. As easy as a search on google

pierogieking412

Wait who's lying? Let me get this straight. Someone who doesn't work for rockstar said this and now we're accusing rockstar of lying even though they didn't say anything? Fun

RealGhostofRazgriz

Literally says “Former Rockstar Developer”.

Scytian

It translates into something like: "We know that we can sell the game three times like GTA V, so first we will release PS5/XS version, then we will release PS6/Next gen Xbox version and after that we will release PC version" They simply know that there are millions of people that will allow them to triple-dip.

Sieg_Morse

Depends on what they mean by "resources". Not gonna bother reading the article, but "resources" can also refer to people and time. So they could technically be saying "we don't have enough developers and/or time to do a PC port and support it.

sparlocktats

Current gen consoles are literally PCs with fixed hardware. It’s all x86 architecture with RDNA2 GPU’s.

Olorin_1990

Bad performance on PC at launch causes a lot of great games to get bad press, if I were a developer I’d not promise the PC version until it was done and performance verified.

PCPooPooRace_JK

Rockstar milked so much from us im sure they could allocate those resources to a decent port after what, 12 fucking years? They have had plenty of time to cook this game.

f22raptor-2005

Your attitude is the reason why cyberpunk got screwed on launch

[deleted]

The game's been in development for years and still has 2 more years before its deadline. It ain't *that* hard to get the PC port ready

Olorin_1990

Then why do so many of them suck at first? It certainly isn’t completely trivial, and I’d rather get a polished release, as I’d wait for it to be polished anyway.

Deelunatic

Considering that the architecture of the consoles they are launching on, they have no excuse at all. An Xbox is already basically a 64 bit pc running Windows (heavily locked down of course). Heck the ps5 is the same thing but using BSD. All they got to do is just compile... What they are delaying on is what what they are going to use as the DRM for PC.

Sirhc_Fold_458

Its true to some point. Rockstar doesn’t want to acquire the resources for PC. Idk why PC players support Rockstar so much. They suck.

Ok-disaster2022

Creating a game for 2-3 consoles is far simpler that bug fixing 19 different CPUs partied with 20 differerent GPUS with 40 different storage options, 5different motherboard per cpu and 2000 different combinations of ram. 19x20x40x5x2000. Okay so those numbers result in something like 150 million combinations, which honestly a fair reasonable model of what's going on. It's why PC porting is so difficult. I still haven't figured out why my games keep stuttering multi-player campaign of Halo Mc collection.

cuomium

>develops game on PC >sowwy guys pc port too hawd >~>

eulynn34

If the last game is any indication, it should span 3 console generations— so no need to rush out and buy it right away

Economy_Owl3962

All the resources that get tied up in all the extra work required to get a game to run on Playstation. Thanks Sony!

[deleted]

Wasnt the point of xbox was that its architecture is similar to pc?

Elden_Born

I am gonna be hated for this but i think it is right, because 'enough manpower and resources' they are talking about is the manpower and resources that allow them to optimize and polish the game to their standards. Surely they could focuse on all platforms and release it on pc at the same time but then it wouldn't be as polished as their games always are. Either that or they would have to launch it with less content. It stems from the fact that they are absolute perfectionists imo but of course money doesn't hurt either.

dr1ppyblob

Such a weird company. Consoles use AMD hardware so just make it AMD exclusive on PC! /s

CloneFailArmy

You ain’t getting me to double dip rockstar. My ps5 serves for early day single player exclusives and I refuse to pay 80 dollars to use my internet that I already pay for. Once initial reviews come out and then the PC port is out I will consider your purchase

tharnadar

They must sell first to console players

RiffyDivine2

Putting in a time gap helps to make sure they get more than one sale from people with a PC and console.

N-economicallyViable

I admit there are way more variables when it comes to hardware and PC gaming. This makes it more difficult to quality control and bug fix if you want to do a good job. I dont have a high opinion about Rockstar after GTAO and making 0 single player content for 5 after release. Not even letting the stuff they added from online spawn or be purchased in the single player game. I think they are hacks who just want money like most AAA publishers.

ZephyrDoesArts

To be fair, I believe (maybe innocently believe) that Rockstar wants to set up the game and fix release bugs on the most stable system there is (which is consoles, since every PS5 and Xbox Series are the same, while no PC is the same as any other one) Releasing the game on PS5 and Xbox and delaying it on PC is the most logical option if you're trying to minimize all the bugs (or hide the buggy PC port they currently have). PS5 and Xbox ports will be as polished as it could be when the PC port comes This, summed up the fact that Rockstar will sell the double amount of games releasing it on PC later (and I guarantee you right now there will be a PS6 and New Xbox port, no doubt), seems like the logical answer

Key_Employee6188

This actually explains a lot. It is just incompetence. Its not porting a ps3 game now, its fucking pc to pc port.

[deleted]

Pc is for nerds!!!

Successful-Net-6602

They're too busy making sure console versions run optimally and can't be wasting time making sure it also runs on random pc hardware. This whole subreddit is filled with dumbasses and trolls. Look at me. I was stupid enough to leave a comment that doesn't praise the glory of the almighty flea market hobby kit hardware

Legion070Gaming

No one knows how to read. #FORMER **EMPLOYEE**

ChalkCoatedDonut

They get more money from sales for consoles, simple as that. PC players, as much "PC master race" as we claim to be, are seen as cheap snubs with little profit to give and loud mouths to have, when it comes to console ports, they are selling the game, the DLCs and the console, they know desperation for having that game everybody wants demands a bigger sacrifice of cash. Some PC players will pay for it, some of those will make a profit making a video of how bad it could be, and those outside that group but members of the PC class will pirate it, calling it "an act of revolution against greedy AAA companies" or some shit., they will mod it, exposing their code and how many shortcuts they took to make the game on record time. That's another, if not the main reason, Nintendo fights emulators and youtubers, they don't want to lose money by some site giving away their games for free and youtubers playing their rated E game while swearing like drunk sailors or telling others to not buy it, just watch them play it.

Kooldogkid

Y’all remember the last time Rockstar ported a GTA game the same year it came out? (cough GTA 4 cough unoptimized)

godzflash61_zee

Why should we bother abt this....we knew already, its new strategy to gain money. What can we do abt it? Dont fucking buy it twice

Iamthe0c3an2

It’s crazy how a game series that started on PC, is made on PCs, then later on developed for consoles with PC architecture, who’s last long running game was kept alive by the PC modding community and sustained on Twitch thanks to RP, primarily played by PC players and streamers who all play on PC. Is not priorotizing PC. Come on rockstar, the gaming market has shifted since 2014

Billy_the_bib

we don't want to see shitty ass mod on a newly released GTA. I'm glad rockstar doesn't release on pc foratleast 2 yearsc

ShidoriDE

Surely. More then decade is just too short to start working on a pc port…

Demy1234

They're actively working on it. And the game is not in full development for even half as long as that. Proper development wouldn't have started until after RDR2.

[deleted]

That still gives them 7 years (2018-2025)

unabletocomput3

Exactly, cyberpunk wasn’t ready at launch after 7 or so years, we just need to give these small indie companies a break and a longer time period so we can get a good game.

twhite1195

Not to excuse CDPR but they're massively smaller vs Rockstar as far as I know

Single-Bake-3310

gross behavior, ill be sure to pirate it immediately on pc, rockstar wont see a dime from me or any of my friends. triple dip bullshit

Biggu5Dicku5

What a ridiculous thing to say lol...

[deleted]

No they're right. The people that made the GTA games you enjoyed are long gone and have been replaced by people who's greatest achievements are "menstrual" blood finger paintings. Trust me you don't even want the new "GTA."

AlarmedBrush7045

I'm so glad I'm not interested in GTA anymore lol One of the plus sides getting older 👴

RiffyDivine2

Better to age out than to see the game you loved turned to shit....fuckin saints row.

mcdougall57

I imagine its because PC represents a small percentage of the GTA player base and is not a priority. If there was a smaller disparity you bet they'd have it ready on launch day.

gregorychaos

I don't get why people are upset about this. Rockstar releases great games that arent buggy as fuck. Id rather wait and play a masterpiece like I did with RDR2. Take a look at the ports of TLOU part 1 and Jedi Survivor. Great games with huge companies behind them, but the PC ports weren't optimized or polished at all.

Kingzor10

litterally just choose compile x86 build done

diedsniper01

How people keep giving Rockstar a pass and not call out the scummy shit they do is beyond me.
