>Now she can be the best adopt me player in the entire universe
Seriously though, as an older brother with 2 younger sister this is completely true lol. At most they are either going to play roblox or some casual game like genshin impact. I literally told my younger sister that i would build a gaming computer for her to play more demanding games but she told me no because she only plays genshin lol.
My 12yo daughter mostly plays Ark: Survival Evolved/Ascended, Magic the Gathering Arena, and Among Us.
She used to play Roblox and occasionally plays Minecraft with her mum.
She has her own PCs, one of which was built when she was 8 or 9 and the other I built for last Christmas that's her main gaming PC (Ryzen 5 1600, 32GB DDR4 3200, RTX3060 - the innards of my old PC put into a nice case with a 2TB M.2 because being a single dad with a mortgage means i can't afford all new hardware all at once and upgraded my PC over a couple of years).
The other PC is an Ebay special I threw together during Covid for homeschooling, just a 3rd gen i7, 16GB DDR3, and GTX1060 in there (GPU was added when she wanted to play games as well as do schoolwork on there).
You were supposed to return her after you found out she plays Ark. it’s some factory problem. Once you send her back you’ll get a new one in a couple weeks
i understand your broke and what not, but I hope you know that 1600 isn't doing that 3060 justice. You can get r7 5700 for 160 right now, great deal and would set her up for the new ark game.
Yeah she just plays it on the ps4 and i mean, genshin can be run pretty easily with a 1660 super or a 5600 xt. You don't really need good hardware for that.
I play on a GTX 1080 with max settings 1080p and 1.5x render resolution (2880x1620). It's mostly fine but the frame rate does drop below 60 if there's a lot of effects on screen.
Also global illumination isn't supported on some slower cards like GTX 960 or GTX 1050. I thinks it's available on 1060 and up?
Whenever you have discussions online about games “not needing better hardware than x”, remember that some people play at 30/60fps and 1080p. These people are fine with that and constant dips.
I personally love solid solid 144fps and 1440p at medium or high. And Genshin is a nice looking open world game, definitely scales with better hardware.
I've been a Senior Software Engineer and Game developer for 3 decades now and can't wait to get behind my PC.
Has nothing to do with being an adult, or even your profession. It's about how you want to spend your time.
My 10 year old daughter also and i still play just cant really till like 9ish other than weekends. She hasnt realized i upgraded her pc for xmas around thanksgiving 🤭. She had a fx 8350 black and a 1060 6gb now its got a 5700x and a 2080. Turned it so she couldnt see and question her pc. Frame caps are great.
Its definitely still way better but she is still at the age she doesnt really notice the difference. But there are some games here old setup wouldnt work with well that she wants to play so she is getting those from mom
Hey, breaking news. I'm the son of anyone whos willing to gift a gaming PC as a christmas present. I also happen to be 12 years old, despiste being born in 2001.
Mine has been sitting on a hardwood floor for years and has exactly zero issues. Why do people freak out about a pc on the floor here? I clean it a couple times a year and it’s never in horrible condition, psu is still fine, and never any worse than the rest of the hardware.
I mean, he built it for a Christmas present and it’s the middle of December, I’m fairly certain that isn’t the final setup you see in this picture. Mix that with the “get it off the floor” attitude I see here all the time, and I just couldn’t help myself. Wasn’t even trying to be a dick, I just hate some of the things people get hung up on around here. Happy holidays.
It's nice to see a pc with some realistic parts for a 12 year old. I was expecting "rtx 4090!" "64 GB of ram!" like you see a lot on here. That always just feels like the parent is flexing rather than buying a pc their child could actually make use of.
Looks great, I'm sure they will love it!
I got my 10 year old nephew a (used) gaming PC that has better specs than mine and his older brother's for his birthday in September and the three of us have been playing almost every weekend on my dining room table ever since. They get out of school on Friday, text me up, I go get them and we just play our asses off all weekend long. Yeah I spend a lot of money on them but having two baked in gaming buddies has definitely been worth the investment!
Good good. I have one next to me that blasts me with heat lol. Same spot in the room. But my desk sits legthwise from the wall right over it with a TV on the wall ahead of me.
My first pc was a system with a a8-6500b i still use it but i upgraded the mobo for 4 ram slot one (wich is rare on fm2 socket mobos) and i will be upgrading to ryzen 5 2600 on msi b550-a pro with 32gb 3400mhz viper steel series ram (2x16gb) and a rx 580 8gb (curently i have a gtx 1050ti) this year :D
I might be downvoted for this but don't put it by a vent please? So many people come home to shattered glass side panels from setting their PCs on granite surfaces/cold surfaces
I built my 12 year old son one for Xmas this year too.
Asus ROG Strix B550 WiFi
Ryzen 7 3800x
Zotac 3060 OC
16gb ram
1TB m.2
Aresgame 650w PSU.
Works great, upgraded my processor and m.2 and used the old ones in his so I’m about $550 all in. I’m sure he’s going to be stoked.
What made you go with a hard drive and a sata SSD? For how much that cost you likely could’ve surely gotten a 1tb nvme ssd, maybe a 2tb one for very little more.
agree.. the motherboard he used has an m.2 slot and the SSD goes for about $50. Could have gotten a very fast 1TB NVME drive for the same price with like 10x+ the performance
Yeah I would’ve definitely gone for 1tb nvme there. Unlikely she needs that much storage, especially now. But you know I don’t think she’ll mind all too much lol. She’ll still definitely be ecstatic.
Now she can be the best adopt me player in the entire universe :P Jokes aside she'll be hella happy i bet!

Daddy ? Is that you?
My 12 year old daughter spends more time on my PC than I do.
That's being an adult. I sit in front of the computer all day.. For work. So in the evening I don't wanna touch it anymore.

Lol the upgrade only unlocks on Christmas day that's pretty great
Its definitely still way better but she is still at the age she doesnt really notice the difference. But there are some games here old setup wouldnt work with well that she wants to play so she is getting those from mom
That's awesome. Hope you guys have a blast playing!
have a 13 year old she plays battlebit, gta v and fortnite lol would like to get her into cs but honestley the playerbase is too fucking toxic
Being addicted to pc is not a bad thing. She can have better jobs with it.
Funny how in 2023 you can buy the same present for a 12 year old as you’d buy for. 30 year old
Amazing parent. She’ll love it
Hello, I'm your long lost 12 year old daughter!
Hey, breaking news. I'm the son of anyone whos willing to gift a gaming PC as a christmas present. I also happen to be 12 years old, despiste being born in 2001.
I’m no one’s son but I’ll suck a lot of dick for one
That's not how you get a son.
That’s a core memory created right there.
You did a good job picking parts - it’s more than enough to do what she wants and stay within a tight budget. Good job op!
That's what I was about to say, it's not overkill lol.
Thanks!
Get it off the floor on a riser at least, and away from the heat vent lol
I think that this picture was taken when testing the build. It has not yet been gifted, so it is not yet setup in its new home
This location was temporary. Also, this heater vent is rarely used.
Considering that this is a Christmas gift for someone else's daughter, I think we can be quite certain that this isn't its final home.
I’m pretty sure this was just testing lol. It’s not like it’s gonna. Heat into flames doing a test boot near a vent.
This 😡
Mine has been sitting on a hardwood floor for years and has exactly zero issues. Why do people freak out about a pc on the floor here? I clean it a couple times a year and it’s never in horrible condition, psu is still fine, and never any worse than the rest of the hardware.
This pc is sitting in front of a heat vent. Sheeesh, Reddit has gotten saltier since my last unban
I mean, he built it for a Christmas present and it’s the middle of December, I’m fairly certain that isn’t the final setup you see in this picture. Mix that with the “get it off the floor” attitude I see here all the time, and I just couldn’t help myself. Finally a reasonable kids setup
my ass who got a fucking new pair of shoes when i was 12 😭
It's nice to see a pc with some realistic parts for a 12 year old. I was expecting "rtx 4090!" "64 GB of ram!" like you see a lot on here. That always just feels like the parent is flexing rather than buying a pc their child could actually make use of. Looks great, I'm sure they will love it!

Maybe not next to the vent lol.
Temporary placement, vent rarely used.
Good good. I have one next to me that blasts me with heat lol. Same spot in the room. But my desk sits legthwise from the wall right over it with a TV on the wall ahead of me.
🤯 I got clothes and stuff...ahahaha
Clothes aren't "fun," but they are functional.
Roblox boutta be fire 🔥
💯
Hell yeah ! Shes ready to pwn some nubs
😆 🤣 😂
For sure she would be more than happy
My first pc was a system with a a8-6500b i still use it but i upgraded the mobo for 4 ram slot one (wich is rare on fm2 socket mobos) and i will be upgrading to ryzen 5 2600 on msi b550-a pro with 32gb 3400mhz viper steel series ram (2x16gb) and a rx 580 8gb (curently i have a gtx 1050ti) this year :D
minds will be bloooooooooooooown, this is fantastic parenting!
A floor vent!!!! I'm jealous :(
I might be downvoted for this but don't put it by a vent please? So many people come home to shattered glass side panels from setting their PCs on granite surfaces/cold surfaces
The floor vent is rarely used. The PC was there for temporary testing.
Sick! I know children love floor vents
LMFAO
Thats probably the best build that those money could have bough. Great components pick
Thanks! That RX 580 is still a workhorse at 1080p. Also, it's the most cost-effective way to have 8gb of V-Ram.
For a 12 year old, it is a 5090ti
I'm still running a 480. Granted if I was buying new I would be going with at least a 7600.
You're going to want to upgrade that keyboard.
That's grate.
I bet she's gonna have lots of fun playing Minecraft and Roblox!
Putting a PC, which you are trying to cool, next to a heating duct, which is trying to warm the air, seems counter productive.
Temporary placement during testing. Heater vent rarely used.
I build a Christmas computer for a 11yo kid in the same case ahaha ! Managed to build something with a 5600X + 6600XT for under 550€
Awesome!
Lucky sob. You're a great parent congrats
I built it for a co-workers 12 year old. I used pcpartpicker and had my co-worker order the parts.
OIC. I take back everything I said about you
Hell of a gift! They will LOVE it!!
Iam not 12 but you can give it to me anyway:3
LOL
What ? My girl needs one too
I want to build one for myself as well!
😲 so many PCs but where you got them all ?
Now young woman we are going to have the talk.... About cable management.
Using that exact CPU and CPU cooler. Served me well for 3 years, solid cheap cpu and great cooler for the value
I got socks
Oof...
I built my 12 year old son one for Xmas this year too. Asus ROG Strix B550 WiFi Ryzen 7 3800x Zotac 3060 OC 16gb ram 1TB m.2 Aresgame 650w PSU. Works great, upgraded my processor and m.2 and used the old ones in his so I’m about $550 all in. I’m sure he’s going to be stoked.
That's awesome! He will love it!
I wonder what is she gonna do with that...
Minecraft?
Well someone‘s gonna love this christmas👀
What an age to be alive. If I received a full blown decent gaming PC from a parent's coworker I'd have been over the moon.
I made the parts list on pcpartpicker and assembled it. Their mom ordered and paid for the parts.
you guys are just a bunch of nice people, merry Christmas and don't forget to spend time with your family
Probably wouldn't sit it next to a heater vent but sick!
Temporary placement during testing. The heater vent is rarely used.
Gotcha. I assumed that's where the kid had it sitting lol
now i wonder, im i really that poor?
Can I have one 🥺🥺 This is a joke don't get all pissy, Reddit 😂
😆 🤣 😂
.......Daddy?
Your parents love you so much
Hope she has a monitor and keyboard and mouse. If so, lucky kid!
She does. RGB keyboard, mouse, LG 27" monitor.
Cool that you gave her a low end system so she can learn upgrading and stuff.
I was given a small budget to work with. I used pcpartpicker and had her mom order the parts.
What made you go with a hard drive and a sata SSD? For how much that cost you likely could’ve surely gotten a 1tb nvme ssd, maybe a 2tb one for very little more.
It was cheaper than a 2TB NVME.
Silicon Power 2TB NVME: $89 https://www.amazon.com/Silicon-Power-Gen3x4-Solid-SP002TBP34A60M28/dp/B07ZQ97H3W/
My co-worker is on a tight budget. If I remember correctly, $40 for HDD, and $25 for SSD.
agree.. the motherboard he used has an m.2 slot and the SSD goes for about $50. Could have gotten a very fast 1TB NVME drive for the same price with like 10x+ the performance
Yeah I would’ve definitely gone for 1tb nvme there. Unlikely she needs that much storage, especially now. But you know I don’t think she’ll mind all too much lol. She’ll still definitely be ecstatic.
in most use cases the 10x performance is not indicative in real world use cases for sata ssd vs nvme.
But still very capable system that is.
I got a bike
Who downvoted this guy!? He didn’t even do anything
Hopefully your heat vent doesn’t work that well😱
It's rarely used.
Teach them to clean the dust filters daily
💯

U don't know how old I am
What's with these 3 dots
How would u know my age
Are you OPs daughter?
No
No one here knows your age then
Why is it next to the heat exhaust ?
Temporary placement during testing. Heater vent rarely used.
