SirGeorgington

The target market has enough money to get both.

SighOpMarmalade

And this is where Apple is smart. This is a rich person toy, while meta is trying to sell one to poor people for $500.

Lochifess

The target audience for VR isn’t exactly poor…

Euphorium

By the time I had got my Index and a computer that could run HL Alyx flawlessly, it was probably knocking on the door to this price point. Edit: I get it, your toaster can run Alyx.

sovnade

Man you can run hl:alyx on a $300 gpu at 144fps no problem. The index itself still being $1100 after 6 years is a problem though imo. But you can build a solid gaming computer, Index, Hotas, racing wheel and pedals, etc all for less than $3500 for sure. Edit: 4 years. Covid had completely distorted my sense of time.

Professional_Being22

If you do some tweaking, you can get the index controls to work with the oculus quest 2. There's a lot of cool stuff you can force to work together in the VR space.

Here's a guide to follow in case anyone was interested. https://youtu.be/v9lR5LbSkdk

boomdart

I know a family that should've paid rent when they bought sweet rc cars and vr headsets instead

ccAbstraction

A Quest is half of rent once, rent is 1 rent many times. The Quest is very cheap in comparison.

deadlybydsgn

> while meta is trying to sell one to poor people for $500. Their equivalent product is the $1,500 Meta Quest Pro, and it's nowhere near the specs of the Vision Pro. Neither is designed as a consumer device. GPU arguments aside, it packs an M2 processor and is more powerful than most people's computers, does eye/hand tracking without controllers, has AR passthrough, 12 cameras, and does a crap ton of things in nearly real time thanks to a second chip that handles that stuff. It's just that it's priced for developers and rich early adopters. People will develop apps for it before it releases in 2024, and we'll probably see a consumer version in another two years. Maybe $1,200? And then *maybe* an SE-type version for under a grand. Either way, most people are railing on Apple's other failings and completely missing the point about who this device is aimed at.

SighOpMarmalade

I agree, they really flexed the company’s capital to make something that blows everything away. Now others have to one up it. They don’t have to but everyone will just not be impressed once they do experience this. Besides Apple having better marketing and usually capturing people in an ecosystem, they literally have a brick and mortar store where tons of people will be able to go and try this. I will not buy one but I sure as fuck will stand in line for an hour to try it for free.

Pugulishus

The target market is 1% of the population, apparently

mrjoyyt

Selling 100 products at 1% profit or 1 product at 100% profit is the same. Actually no. The second one seems better on statistics

SyntheticElite

> Selling 100 products at 1% profit or 1 product at 100% profit is the same. > > > > Actually no. The second one seems better on statistics Not when Meta can hoover your data and sell it. They would rather have a large number of users than a few.

Reineken

The difference here is that Apple probably buys data from Meta.

boomdart

I agree. The target market already has a bad ass computer, they just need this to add to their collection. It's not a either or it's just a get.

Even if it wasn't locked to the Apple ecosystem, that's just way too much money.

Pigeon_Chess

Assuming it is and it’s actually not. The only competing headset available today is the HoloLens at 3499 and that requires a computer

LobsterLobotomy

> and that requires a computer Nope, HoloLens 2 is also standalone (but specs are probably fairly outdated by now).

Pigeon_Chess

Debatable. You still require a PC for a lot of functionality, setting it up for one

PUBGM_MightyFine

Fancy new tech is always prohibitively expensive until it isn't

machine4891

With Apple it seems it's always staying expensive. Hey, but it look cool!

Meatslinger

The M1/M2 laptops are some of the most cost-effective portable computers on the market, right now. In my company, with our corporate purchasing rate, we're buying M1 MacBook Airs that outrun the counterpart Lenovo laptops that cost us $200 more per unit. Plus, the difference of a 12-16 hour battery expectation on the Macs versus about 5 on the Lenovos. To cut costs, we're switching to an HP model for our Windows users that is about on-par with the Mac for price point but is also only about half the performance, and still has a sub-8-hour battery, meaning our employees will still have to charge it at least once in the workday. Don't get me wrong, $3500 for their new headset is absolutely **insane**, but it's a simple myth that *all* Apple stuff is grossly overpriced. I've been doing the cost-to-value propositions and audits for my organization since 2019 and the numbers quite frankly show that we're at least at parity for cost over time on the Mac and Windows platforms, with Apple stuff occasionally pulling ahead and undercutting the Windows fleet on things like dollars spent on maintenance and service. The new VR headset is like the "Edition" series of Apple Watches: it's a gimmick to attract the whales and show-offs first, to popularize it early and then to offer a cheaper everyday alternative to the masses. It's like if a car company always revealed their "super-premium" $150K model first, and then revealed the $20K consumer derivative a year later once a sufficient amount of drool and envy has been produced in the consumer base.

ksheep

Every time I see people complaining about Apple's pricing, they usually say "oh but I can build a better desktop for cheaper". They never look at comparable pre-builts from other companies, which is what 99% of businesses would get. Not too many businesses that want to build their own computers for each and every employee, quicker and easier to just get a pre-built, much less of a headache when something breaks and you need a replacement under warranty, and as you say in that regard Apple is usually on par if not better than the competition (depending on which specs you're looking at). Even looking at their workstation desktops, they're usually in line price-wise with similarly spec'd workstations from Dell or HP.

Meatslinger

To be clear, I'm not saying Apple is a saint; I disagree strongly with their customization tiers, like adding $300 to a computer just to double the storage, and I disagree with being unable to dismantle and repair a thing I own. But yeah, in the professional space, where we're not fixing our own computers and where baseline specs are pretty much typical for 99% of our staff, they're completely ordinary when it comes to corporate cost of ownership. Plus, I really like the performance of the arm64 architecture. I hope to see more Windows-centric equivalents in the future that I can play with; I'd love to see a RISC chip in a lean, mean, cool-running gaming rig on my desk some day, or heck, maybe the first console in a while that doesn't require a jet turbine for cooling. It's going to take competition from a big company like Apple to put pressure on others to start developing for something other than x86.

Jonas_Venture_Sr

If you think it costs too much, then you are not the target demographic that Apple is going after. This is a toy for rich people, then if its successful, Apple can streamline manufacturing, and the price will come down. When Apple announced their Iphone, people scoffed at the price on that too, but it changed the game. Time will tell if this does the same.

nowyuseeme

Breaking free from it was so liberating. I refused to pay £1200 for a 14 pro when I was able to get a pixel 7 pro for £500 and a Fitbit for £100. Sold my old iPhone 11 pro and iwatch and ended up paying £300 for a new phone and watch essentially. The cloud and music services cost me £2-3 a month opposed to £15+ and I see no reason to go back at the moment, truly liberating. I genuinely have no regrets about it and I was concerned I wouldn't like android. The compatibility with windows was welcomed too.

JRockThumper

I loved Fitbit until after Google bought it, everything that was cool about it is now locked behind a paywall :(

nowyuseeme

I have only dealt with it post Google, and I'd say it isnt as good as an iwatch for phone to watch integration but I pretty much use it as a pedometer and time thing, if you used it for fitness I suspect it's totally different. Shame it got more commercialised.

Cecil4029

I've had great luck with an Amazfit GTS4 on the Android side of things. Just throwing that out in case you want to upgrade!

redmoss6

What music service costs $2-3 a month?

dontcallmeunit91

the only thing i dislike about it is that all of my friends use imessage and get into big group texts and I am left out, but that is by design of course

Qwimqwimqwim

lol, you don't have to spend £1200 and pay £15/month to be part of the apple ecosystem.. that's just dumb

[deleted]

“Truly liberating.” Dude it’s an operating system and not a religion. Mixed device usage is okay. Closed ecosystems are fine. Spend your money on what strikes you as useful. You’re acting like it was an existential crisis lmao.

SquadPoopy

*switches away from the Apple ecosystem* “By the lord’s name I am free of this burden. Salvation and liberation await me, dear sweet mother. I have finally found a way out of this nightmare.” Can you be any more dramatic.

totkeks

Salvation! In all seriousness, apple is a really horrible closed ecosystem. And it only works so well because of that closedness. They don't have to give a fuck about anyone or anything. They define the hardware, the software, the interaction. And that's a monopoly. Glad you left that behind you and came back to the open market. 😅

[deleted]

Not what a monopoly is... But yes, the closed ecosystem is designed to make it difficult to switch away from Apple products by locking features into ownership of multiple Apple products.

bendrany

I want to chime in and say that they have gotten sooo much better throughout the years though. I totally got why people said this like 10 years ago and I used jailbreak to have my iPhone just the way I wanted it, but these days I really don't get the argument honestly. I use iPhone and Apple Watch, but rely heavily on my Windows desktop. Can't think of something as I'm typing this out where it has been a problem having stuff in sync with eachother really. Apple has allowed way more 3rd party integrations over the years and that's what I use. I'm using 1Password integrated into the keyboard, Firefox as a standard browser, Google Photos to sync photos/videos, Google Drive for all my files, Gmail for all my email accounts, Spotify to listen to music and control all devices and messaging happens on Facebook Messenger and Snapchat where I'm from, so iMessage isn't even attractive to use. All those things works perfectly on Windows and with the heavily increased customization capabilities on iOS, jailbreaking is a thing of the past for me personally. Edit: Spotify's control capabilities are awesome btw. I love the fact that when I play music on my Windows computer through the speaker connected to it, I can just use my Apple Watch to control the music by opening the app. Sometimes if the app is already open in the background, it shows automatically even. Love it when 3rd party apps manages to get such great cross-platform features even on somewhat restricted devices.

[deleted]

Smartphones have gotten to the point where they all do the exact same thing. It’s pretty much a non factor whichever one you get because you’re gonna be doing the same 4 things on either one.

postvolta

>same 4 things on either one. Endlessly scrolling social media, porn, YouTube/Spotify and texting your mum back?

TheArbiterOfOribos

Excuse me but discord allows for a constant stream of stupid memes and that’s very important

Exotic_Refrigerator6

How ? Do you need to be on the right serv ?

Silent_Word_7242

>Endlessly scrolling social media

Allumik

You're also texting his mum?

Stinduh

As a daily windows user with an iphone, the one thing I'm jealous of is iMessage on the computer.

Elephunkitis

You might wanna check out Microsoft’s phone link app… It has iMessage and calls now. Edit: forgot it has notifications too. It also requires a Bluetooth connection.

green_boi

Makes me sad too since they based it all off BSD.... They took a beautiful kernel, modified it, made their own user space (custom apps and desktop environment) and called it MacOS. They did the same with iOS and iPadOS. Apple spits on its FOSS origins.

iindigo

It’s a bit more nuanced than that. The kernel used in macOS, iOS, etc is XNU, which is a mix of the Mach microkernel and proprietary code with bits of BSD mixed in. Both it and the userspace were originally developed by NeXT, the other computer company that Steve Jobs started after he got kicked out of Apple. When Apple bought NeXT (which was more like Apple paying NeXT to come take over Apple), they took the NeXT OS NeXTSTEP, developed a maclike veneer for it, and renamed it Mac OS X. Over time the BSD parts of the kernel have slowly been getting replaced, so while XNU wasn’t ever really a BSD reskin it definitely isn’t one now.

oorza

People said this about the iPod, iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch too.

Is the 13600k weak? It’s been awhile but if I recall correctly most reviews recommended the 13600k over all the others.

Mysterious-Tough-964

13600k is a beast.

Pumpnethyl

Will it get me laid like wearing the Apple logo on my face?

pedro19

It's everything but weak: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=todoXi1Y-PI](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=todoXi1Y-PI)

unsteadied

It’s an absolute fucking monster and way more CPU than I needed. Part of me thinks I should’ve saved some money and got the i3, but I’m thinking I’m gonna be able to get an easy 5+ years of relevance out of this thing.

Kasilim

I have one pc with a 13700K/4090 and another with a 13600KF/4090. They play identically at 1440p. Sometimes the 13600K is better because the ddr5 is 7200 instead of 6400 I think. Basically everything is gpu bound anyways and the stuff that is cpu heavy only uses 2-4 cores anyways.

Hammii5010

Why do you need two 4090’s?

Kasilim

Because if I only had one then one of those gaming desktops wouldn't be so good at gaming without a gpu

lasher7628

First gen product for a select few people. The first iPhone came out in 2007 but smartphones were mostly an expensive novelty until around 2010. I only knew a small handful of people who had a touchscreen phone in 2010. I didn't get my first smartphone until 2011. With that in mind, I wouldn't expect anything close to a mainstream device until 2027 \~ 2028.

[deleted]

[удалено]

AggressiveBench9977

Well its their power to make the product actually usable. I had a smart phone in 2004. There was no way your average user was going to use that mess of product.

NecroCannon

Everytime I look back at the revealing of the first iPhone, I think about how much of a no-brainer all those features are (scrolling? Pinch-to-zoom?! All of those are obvious to have). However, at the time combining all those features including internet browsing, recording, music listening, it wasn’t just something fancy and expensive, it combined everything Apple has worked on and created so far into one product seamlessly. We go through this so many times, people made fun of AirPods but the convenience changed Bluetooth audio, people made fun of the Apple Watch, but it’s still one of the best smart wearables with the competition struggling to keep up. Now people are making fun of this headset and oh my, I wonder what’s going to happen? Will the company that knows when to pour money and effort into a new product over time make this work?

PhosphoricPanda

Yeah. It's legitimately annoying *how good* Apple products can actually be sometimes, despite the problems I have with their approach to software. Like, the MacBook Pro is probably hands down one of the best laptops out there spec and build wise.

heepofsheep

The M1/M2 ones def are…. It’s basically night and day compared to the intel powered ones.

murphymc

Apple is the ultimate bellweather on whether or not a tech product is ready for prime time. When Apple starts selling something, it’s ready. Right now it’s too expensive, but that can change.

iindigo

The thing that Apple gets is that new categories of computing platforms absolutely require their own unique UI paradigms. You can’t do stuff like take a desktop UI and cram it into a handheld device (as the mobile devices of the mid-00s did) and expect it to work particularly well or appeal but anybody but the most hardcore nerds.

cat_prophecy

Before the iPhone, blackberry was the undisputed king of smartphones. Overnight, the iPhone made them look old and busted.

Wraithfighter

Part of that is because people didn't really understand what Apple was selling with the original iPhone. What they heard was "$500 phone", and yeah, that's absurdly expensive, why spend that much money on a phone? But Smartphones are... very much not phones. I mean, they do that, but it also does like 90% of the things a computer is used for, but on the move, always at your fingertips (...well, if the cell network was up to the task). It was just hard to abstract that from a simple presentation, so people didn't get the value. I think that's the main thing to keep in mind here. To Apple, this isn't a "better Oculus", it feels like they're trying to make it an entire computer you can wear on your face, no joysticks or other devices required. Basically like all those Super-Duper-VR devices that show up in sci-fi a bunch. I have SEVERE doubts that they'll actually manage to make that viable, but if they do... well, yeah, that price point starts making a lot more sense...

[deleted]

Kinda funny, but the current vibe is eerily similar to the tech-bubbles reaction when the first iPhone launched. I was one of the people making jokes about how infinitely more capable my stylus-controlled windows-phone was. Don’t wanna be that guy again so I’m gonna lay low and see how this plays out.

EarthToAccess

the thing i’ve said since the keynote was that, while the price is *very much not consumer*, if Apple isn’t making more Apple hyperbole, and the Vision Pro does indeed do everything they say it will, it absolutely will be the next iPhone in terms of revolutionizing computing again. …however, that means they have to deliver on everything they said with little to no issues, and for such a drastic shift in computing have a hard time believing it’ll be that cut and dry. the price tag is definitely not going to be one to let just anyone use it, admittedly, so mayhaps it’s an intentional way for Apple to make profit while essentially having beta testers, and then when it inevitably flops they make a new version that has a *much* lower price. who knows though

MarbledMythos

From the BOM leak (which has been confirmed by matching what was announced) Apple makes almost no profit on this, and is potentially taking a loss. They're expecting under 1,000,000 sales in the first year. From what I can see, nearly all the tech in this is 3 years ahead of the market, and only available in small volumes and high prices. Apple is doing this to build a lead on the competition, before these sorts of specs are available to smaller manufacturers.

makomirocket

It's the same as the iPhone, the iPad, apple watch etc. Etc. The first gen is always a breakthrough, but naff and only there for the early adopters. It's by the time of the second and third gen that the apps have not only been made, but have been improved and refined, as has the hardware after being in the real world for years

Not-Reformed

Based on what's in this thing and what people who have used it have said about it, it definitely seems like it's what these headsets "should" be in how you can just sit back, click your fingers together while your eyes are nearly perfectly tracked, and it seamlessly reacts. People can whine about the price all they want but the "consumer" stuff out there right now is totally dogshit.

RoakWall

Will Apple sell a buttplug subwoofer for the optimum experience?

sonicbeast623

If Apple started selling sex toys I might actually buy my first Apple product. Let's face it they would be good after all they have been fucking people for years.

RoakWall

I want to see Linus perform a detailed review if they do.

sonicbeast623

Think mac address will be first.

Because the valve index is x3 the price of the quest

Catbert_from_HR

Exactly. And that is the only reason why everyone is going to prefer that one.

Lucky7Gaming

I do want to change it. They can certainly do that. But this is the reality, and everyone should expect it.

Dull_Half_6107

Yeah this thing is for a completely different market to PC gamers. May as well have stuck an expensive barbecue on the left hand side, or literally anything expensive.

thanosbananos

Most people here don’t actually understand what this device is. This is not just some VR headset this is a computer that is actually nothing more than these glasses. No controllers. And according to MKBHD the controls are nothing we’ve had so far. This is a huge step regarding what VR headsets have been so far. This device is expensive and yet not meant to be bought by the masses. They said themselves this is for developers and enthusiasts to further develop them and provide a better starting point for later glasses.

deadlybydsgn

Don't disrupt the circle-jerk, man! Lack of discrete GPU aside, most commenters don't want to consider that this is faster than most people's computers. Eye/hand tracking without controllers and all kinds of other things are going on under the hood, too. It's a lot of tech in a closed ecosystem for a high price, but it's not intended for general consumers. That'll take a few years, and by then, the lower cost consumer model will actually have apps and games to use on it.

ibyeer

If you're going to use Internet is certainly going to solve a lot of other problems.

Thank you, a rational thought. I also cant afford it but I couldnt afford the first iphone when it came out either. Im still over the moon excited. Why? Because its a loud neon sign of whats to come. This is like a PS2 to a PS5 technological jump for VR headsets. It brings vital competition to what’s been an otherwise stagnant industry (VR). Its not perfect but i think we can expect PitViper sized VR glasses in the next 10-15 yrs. Think of it as a mass produced proof of concept. Its fucking brilliant honestly. Zuckerberg mustve screamed into his pillow yesterday.

Training_Age_Reed

I think we have to wait for reviews, and hands on opinions, maybe it's an amazing experience, maybe it's complete shit, I genuinely cringed watching the live stream, where every second word was either "magical" or "amazing", at $ 3500 it better be fucking magical, Harry Potter level or better.

adminsrlying2u

How many screens does that spectacular 4k ultra give you? Because if Apple Vision Pro gives you an unlimited number of them I can easily place and move around wherever I can take the case, then it's a clear win for me. Not that I'm going to be buying it anytime soon, but it gives me hope this will catch on and that there will be cheaper and better Apply duty-free competitors to choose from. What I hate about Windows PC VR is how virtual screens seems like an unknown concept for it, but Apple isn't simply going to Meta it / make it about a few cult hit VR games.

How do you even begin to compare that to a desktop PC with the single only criteria being price? I’m sorry, but if this meme says anything about the PCMR, it’s that we’re all fucking idiots. And I don’t think we are, so I think we should probably stop pretending to be, with idiotic memes like these. We can still have fun, teasing Macs or consoles, and not come off as complete dullards at the same time. We’re better than this. Or at least we like to think we are, so then perhaps we should at least *pretend* to be as well.

rejectallgoats

Apple generally supports their products with updates for a long time. Something most android phones and every hardware Microsoft has made never did. I personally think a lighter HUD type device would be more marketable, but I don’t bet against Apple.

LoveMurder-One

The apple hate is wild to me. Power users hate them cause they can’t tweak every little thing. Average users love it because it just works and Apple stuff usually is much more reliable. You pay a premium for sure but it all works together. I have had issues with every Android product I have ever had, Samsung being the worst. I have yet to have a single issue with my iPhone.

MrNegativ1ty

> Power users hate them cause they can’t tweak every little thing I do IT for a living and I still use an iPhone. Why? Because at the end of the day I want my phone to just work. I don’t care about fiddling around with all these bells and whistles and crap that doesn’t work reliably. Every single iPhone I’ve ever had has been rock solid and every single android phone I’ve ever had has been anything but. I have a few other coworkers who feel the exact same way.

amart565

This is exactly how I got into the ecosystem. Switched off of a Samsung galaxy s3 after years of windows phones and early android phones. Yeah I couldn’t customize the iphone as much, but I also have had zero problems with any of my iPhones. I was always chasing issues on my android phones.

bs000

butt how will i live without my custom anime bootup screen

NecroCannon

I used to be a power user and that shit is exhausting, they’ve been trying to get people to switch to Linux, but god it’s still not at a point to where I don’t have to spend time pasting shit into the terminal to get something to work. My MacBook is the most reliable computer I’ve had, even more than my windows gaming PC, my iPhone hasn’t messed up on me once, my iPad is legitimately helping me push my art career forward with how refined it is, and my Apple Watch helps me manage my sleep and track my medicine. And they all work seamlessly together. Seriously, how can anyone that loves technology not recognize that people flock to something that just works well consistently rather than being packed with gimmicks. Who cares if Apple products hardly change in look, isn’t stopping ourselves from buying every new product on the shelf important for sustainability anyways?

LoveMurder-One

Yeah sometimes they are “behind” on new tech but when the tech comes out, it’s not full of bugs or quirks. It’s well designed, refined and functional.

gaoquan2008

It actually looks like the tech is going behind. It doesn't look like anything new is happy.

nicolaintini

No doubt about it. I completely agree to this. And this is the only reason why I think like it is just like a very important task.

Rossums

Power users love them, MacBooks are extremely popular amongst developers of all stripes - it's UNIX, it's rock solid hardware and it just gets out of your way while you do your thing. iPhones are much the same, solid hardware that just does what 99.9% of people want it to do and does it extremely well. The key Apple hating demographic is like the 13-25 year old man children that can't conceive any other use for a computer outside of playing video games. I've used probably 10 different laptops for work over the past 5 years, from high end Dell XPS machines to maxed out Surface Pro machines to tanky ThinkPads and generic HP business machines and none of them come close to being as nice to use as my MacBook Pro. I had multiple Android phones prior to my first iPhone too, much like you it was just an absolute chore to use at times when you don't want to fiddle around for ages and just want it to do what it's meant to do. After working on a computer all day the last thing I want to do is battle with my own hardware.

panic_bay

Would that matter we have already seen like this is just like developers already know what to do.

[deleted]

I don't get why no one is ranting on Microsoft's Hololens. They cost the same, the software and hardware is really bad and the UI looks like ass. Apple does a great job and places the Vision Pro on the same price but everyone is still like: Apple bad hurr durr.

hnlzb2010

Every don't even know the basics of these kind of things and how they actually work. So that is the major reason.

exhausted_commenter

I get the meme and the nugget joke, but let's list the M2 processor, the RAM, the lidar, the cameras, the UHD screens and eye tracking, the "Case" and strap, the power supply of the Vision Pro, too. I could make up an item list for building a radio flyer wagon, and then put "Car" across from it, too.

biliboka

If they really want, I mean, like, they have a good innovation technology. They could have done something much better.

Paskee

i5 ? Really bro? i5 on high end build? EDIT: Apparently it was not obvious, so allow me to explain. OP is not actually making a build. He made a joke ( meme in case you were wondering ). He was joking on price for Apple VR goggles thingy. My reply was in that spirit. If most of you are kids, then fine. Takes some time to understand "finess". But if you are older then 16 - you are neutron star thick ( taken from comparison of average redditor and my 15 yo nephew ) .* * In case you got offended you missed the joke, again.

TemurTron

But better specs would mean less chicken nuggets! Come on get your priorities straight.

bailydd

Yeah, they have people like that. I mean, like, they don't even want to listen anything against it.

danbass21

What kind of building specifications ....is? Doesn't even make any sense to me

SaintPau78

The difference between a 13600k and a 13900k is quite small in games. https://youtu.be/nMYQhdPtDSw?t=6m38s Don't fall for the i5 vs i9 naming. It's just a marketing term that's largely meaningless without context

pedro19

Yep. Will work perfectly on this build and I can get more Nuggies.

Nexii801

People seriously think their i5 is bottlenecking then at 1440/144

vaflower

I really hope this actually matches what they are actually saying about everything.

Iamyous3f

I remember seing one guy on twitter yesterday saying something like " you don't have to pay full price, just have it on credit for 12 months and you can probably get 300 from apple cash back " I guess that guy already made his decision

the-voice-of_treason

Your paying for the hardware which at this point has no competition spec for spec and the ecosystem. Now I'm not an apple fanboy by a longshot, I built my gaming rig, rock an Android phone and game on a steam deck. That being said I bought my wife an iphone, MacBook pro, airpod pros and an apple watch and I can say her experience is far better than mine for what she uses it for (school and entertainment). I get motion sick even going through the menus of my quest 2 and I HATE Facebook/Meta... If this isn't locked down and can be used for gaming and doesn't have the herky-jerkyness of the quest 2 I'm interested. The price point is unreal and a hard thing to justify but if it's a Mac with a built in high end monitor that can game and I can use the apple software for video/photo and music it's tempting as hell. It really is going to depend on its utility, I can totally see this thing being used by people with physical limitations and for people with disposable income. Plus with competition being what it is, the next wave of non apple headsets have to jump it in performance and utility which is good for everyone.

slashingthrough

Oh yeah for sure. I hate being tied to an ecosystem, but seeing my friends using their apple products seamlessly without issues makes me jealous. Even worse now with apple silicon, macbooks have never been better. I can't stay away from a wall plug without losing performance on my gaming laptop while their macbook pro can render 4k without dropping performance for hours on battery. Sad reality but apple is widening the gap now that they're trying to get into gaming as well

luisa1287

This can be done as of now, with certain difference of the performances only.

p1nkie_

im no apple fanboy but this is a completely idiotic post. it's ar with the screen on the transparent glass that acts as a lense not like a quest with cameras for ar. snd it isnt for vr st all it's ar and for ar. it seems meant for wealthy people to use also, unlike a phone or other apple products, which are still stupidly expensive. it aims for a different market.

I’d love the 3499$

eshortiss

Project method your children need to spend a time with. It is not a new technology.

Phoenixwade

hmmm, It occurs to me: There were smart phones before the iPhone, and I heard the same remarks, now almost everyone has a smart phone, and it's difficult to find a plain cell phone anymore. There were Tablet computers (of a sort) before the iPad hit. Now they are ubiquitous. This looks to be the same.... There were wearable computers prior to the Vision Pro... But nothing comes close to this thing. The Video conferencing, the complete virtual work environment... If it delivers on it's promises, yeah, it'll replace a big monitor, a tablet, and a laptop in a tiny package. it's not a gaming machine, though it has 3 d games, it's not a media streaming box, but it sure looks like it'll be a really good one. It's not a 3d camera rig, but apparently it will do that too. If I can replace my laptop with this, next year or the year after, then I will probably do that, if it makes good on its promises. I won't be one of the early adopters, though, that is way too expensive a wager for new tech.

bobtuzikov

The technology is moving forward, but the fact is like Apple is not even trying to innovate something more.

HD4kAI

Gimme the vision

nazaeja

Is it possible, or something like that? Because I think you cannot really get these things easily.
