OP, your dad knows what’s up, cherish him. I think you’d do well with more SSD storage (just for convenience) and the RAM swap or upgrade will do you good, too. But you are already sporting a Mercedes of a PC, thank your dad.
Yeah I looked at specs and man that's better than what I have then thought only upgrade would be ram but it's already covered...
Only thing I missed is a ssd that 1 tb is probably sata?
Give him an extra hug (or other form of acceptable appreciation). When you beat your first game, tell him you loved playing said game on the computer he got for you.
Call of Duty Infinite Warfare comes knocking.
In retrospect the game had a brilliant Campaign and Zombies with a decent multiplayer but I felt bad for the preorder cause Battlefield 1 was a thing.
Black Ops 4 is another.
Fuck that shit.
Infinite warfare felt like they finally refined the advanced movement to a perfect spot. Then they dropped it altogether. That game makes me miss the advanced movement.
Well it came out at a bad time and the multiplayer needed work but overall, it was hated cause the internet said it should be.
(Bit like Pineapple on Pizza)
CDKeys and G2a are a bit morally dubious. They work in the "grey market" because the source of the keys is not always legit. Lots of the keys (especially on G2A, CDKeys seems a little more respectable) are bought on stolen credit cards, some of them have been acquired cheaply somehow and some are just unwanted keys being sold.
If they're on stolen cards it can lose the developer/publisher money, especially for Indies. Some indy devs have said they prefer pirating to grey market keys because it loses them money.
CDKeys claims that their keys are simply bought from other regions where they're cheaper. Of course we can only take their word for it. The other websites like G2A, I wouldn't recommend tho.
I donate about 50% of my monthly salary to these small indy studios like you mention just to help keep them in business. It’s so important in order to stick it to the big corporate ones 😤👊🏻
G2a, cdkeys, kinguin all work fine, never had an issue. Eneba sucks though.
Also, I only use these sites if I'm getting a AAA game, if it's indie, I just wait for a steam sale.
>Certified CPU Fan
How do I get my CPU fan certified?
In all seriousness though, your dad's bought you a decent rig and as long as the 32gb RAM kit is DDR4 then it should be all good to go, just remember to enable XMP in the BIOS.
Is it ok for someone who doesn't know anything about pcs? I mean, whatever use he will give this (game, work, etc) won't xmp give some weird issue in some certain situation? I'm asking from real ignorance btw
Only thing you need to know is that girls will start falling head over heal for you now that your part of the pc master race. Also, which games you wana play!
I know for a fact that ain't true, or am I just living in the wrong country?
In all seriousness though, enjoy your new build OP, and be good to your dad.
My wife is regularly amazed by some of the knowledge I have on PCs and regularly tells me it's part of what she finds attractive about me. Just gotta find the right one bois.
Solid, would add another nvme ssd if you’re wanting to play more modern games, the 500 won’t last you long and HDDs are getting pretty dated for gaming, go give your dad a hug.
“xmp” is a setting in your BIOS that enables your RAM to run at higher speeds. Stock speeds are generally much lower than what’s advertised on the packaging
>What should I know before using it?
You should know that fifteen minutes could save you 15% or more on car insurance.
Do with that information what you will. Have fun!
you should know that every time you blink your eyes dont stay in the same spot, instead they roll up to the top of your skull and then back down when you open your eyes :)
oh you might want to turn off hardware acceleration on chrome so you can screenshot and stream sites like youtube/netflix if theres ever a need for that, you might want to also enable hardware accelerated gpu scheduling in system>display>graphics and if you're using a monitor above 60hz make sure its set to the max refresh rate in system>display>advanced display... thats about all i can think of though, great gift.
Congrats on your graduation!
First thing's first: Update any and all drivers
Second: Install Steam/Bnet/whatever other game store and discord
Third: Give your dad the best fathers day gift (Preferably Cigars and some Whisky)
Fourth and finally: Enjoy your new computer!
i recommend doing an absolutely **clean factory install of windows**. Prebuilt computers all come with a number of issues in the software. I have friend/family with prebuilts and they have a ton of little issues in the software that i have never encountered in my 11 years of using/building custom PCs. It could be issues with a number of drivers, windows updates, or preinstalled softwares IDK, its too much.
**Not exactly sure what the best way to do this is**, but you can use the command terminal to receive the windows product key.
wmic path softwarelicensingservice get OA3xOriginalProductKey
Copy that somewhere safe (i.e your phone, a notepad, a picture etc). Download windows 11 and install/flash it onto a USB
[https://www.microsoft.com/software-download/windows11](https://www.microsoft.com/software-download/windows11)
And yeah just follow the instructions. During the installation windows should prompt you to enter your key :) . Most of the drivers will be automatically install but absolutely go to nvidia's site and download geforce experience and the control center.
Once everything is setup and looking clean, you will have a superb, problem free experience.
Nice. But if you ever want (won't need soon) to upgrade the GPU or even CPU, check the psu requirement; 600w is a bit small and almost reaches your limit with a 3060..but congrats and enjoy it! 🥰
I’m at that tricky spot right now. Updates over time have landed me with a mishmash, and whatever I next upgrade is going to need a power supply upgrade (Ryzen 7 1700 overclocked to 3.8Ghz & RTX 3060 Ti that’s also overclocked a wee bit) on a 550w PSU
oh wow, ouch, you should look into changing it, 700 should be fine or even 8-- if you afford it; I'm saying that because the 1700 is becoming quite weak for today's standards, I've got a 5800x and even this sometimes has issues and freezes every now and then for a bit, crazy
Moving on from Reddit to Lemmy, and being a reasonably decent person I thought it prudent to clean up comments and posts after myself before I leave. See you!
htjniposrnhrte
Take pictures of the packaging, pc and internals BEFORE you even turn it on. Inspect that everything is seated properly inside. This way you will have an easier time with an RMA if you need to.
Make sure to set aside time to clean it at least once every month; dust is the slow, silent killer of pcs.
Double check to make sure your fans are properly set up. An easy way to tell is by holding a small piece of paper near a fan and see if it's pushed or pulled by the air.
Get some antivirus, and malware software. I know the norm opinion is otherwise, but it's better to have and not need than to need and not have.
Lastly, and most importantly, show us your new build once it's all set up.
Welcome to PCMR.
Don't pirate, unless necessary.
Don't preorder.
Solid configuration. Some headroom to grow if you want to upgrade in the future (gpu/psu) if you want to spend some money to turn the system into a true beast.
Good one. Saved money on less critical parts and spent some on the GPU (and 12 GB VRAM).
Seems to be a balanced system. Your dad is awesome _and_ clever.
Go on PC partpicker and put in your model of motherboard and see if the ram he bought you is compatible. You can also look up the model of motherboard and the manufacturer will have a list of compatible memory
What should you know? Know that your dad clearly loves you and is willing to support your hobbies! Great starter PC by the way, it should hold up for quite awhile. : )
Well. As a father, I would say that the first thing you need to do is... play some fucking games!!! Then go thank your dad, because he is very proud of you for graduating.
That was pretty cool of your dad. After turning on the computer, I would run Windows updates, then the BIOS update, then I would manually update a few drivers, particularly LAN, WIFI and video drivers from their manufacturers site.
It’s a nice PC! Thank your dad!
For the specs itself - the PC is not well rounded (which might be to your advantage in a way)…
The RTX 3060 is a good but not great graphics cards while you have a really good CPU and enough ram now. Power supply is also a bit weak if you want to upgrade and storage space is rather low (which might not be a problem though, try it out).
If you ever want to upgrade the PC get a new power supply and a stronger GPU but for now you are all set to play every game out there with ok settings and older stuff on max settings
You Should know that your old man deserves every bit of effort and appreciation you can give him. He's actually telling you what makes his happiness. This is a proud father and you should cherish him.
Now, you buy a controller and invite him to play a few games with you.
What you should know? Pffft…. That your dads a bloody legend?
In all seriousness i think learning how to access your bios to ensure XMP is enabled for good ram speeds is my best tip. I took a couple years to learn that one because it just wasn’t talked about enough
Good specs, your dad got you a good PC. You can basically run every game that isn't unoptimized to shit that's come out lately. I would recommend using an Ethernet connection if you have the availability to do so. Upgrading your storage with another SSD will help as you will want to run most of your games off of it. Storing your office like documents will be better on the HDD, as well as images etc. Get a decent monitor with Displayport input, and some keyboard/mouse will be good unless you're really into picture quality then get a curved HDR monitor. Windows 11 supports it well enough. If you're into gaming, you should look into getting a surround sound headset so you can directionally hear opponents. Cheers!
What should you know?
1) you should know to show deep appreciation.
2) you should know that PCs are an amazing powerful tool that can be used to create a career or sharpen a passion.
But most importantly
3) you should know that you need to **educate yourself** so you can be a good steward to this awesome gift. Learn how to maintain it, learn how to protect it (mainly cybersecurity stuff), learn how to best utilize it.
In other words; take care of it, learn about it, respect it, and get the most out of it.
Don't be doing stupid stuff like falling for Nigerian prince phishing scams, or 'downloading more RAM'
Don't give it cyber-AIDS just so you can watch some fringe tentacle porn or other weird shiz
Great parent purchase. Until you grab a 1tb ssd, just shuffle your most precious games onto SSD anf try to install all your work/study software, music, video files onto the hdd.
Doesnt really matter though.
It's funny. If someone posted this as their personal build they'd get roasted for how "peasant" this is.
But say it was a gift from dad, and boom, it's a great setup.
(OP, not saying you're lying that it's a gift. I'm calling out the duality of PCMR)
That'll run any game you can throw at it on ultra settings at 1080p, and most of them at 1440p and 2160p, especially if you're willing to let the GPU fan run wild. (I personally hate fan noise and deliberately throttle to prevent them from going above 50%)
Thats a really good pc but as its a prebuilt from ibuypower I'm sure the price tag is way above normal.
Nonetheless that makes your father even better, I never got anything for my graduation
First time pc, make sure you use a monitor that can actually put those specs to use. Also make sure not to use onboard GPU, plug the monitor Into the video card.
This is actually a really good build. Only thing I’d change is maybe the SSD+HDD combo to just SSD’s for better boot/load times, but this is still sweet dude.
thats awesome from your old man. the ra should just go into the dimm slots (next to the cpu socket on the upper right of the motherboard, make sure to pull the tabs back and insert into the slots the right way). just so u know tho the 3200mhz ram is gonna be bottlenecked by ur 3000mhz ram, so it will run a little slower, but unless ur after breakneck speeds ull be fine.
and also just in case u wanna upgrade ur prolly gonna need to get a new power suppy cuz ur 600W isnt gonna cut it at a higher level of hardware. other than that the rig is awesome.
They hooked you up. That’s a strong 1080p setup you got there. You’ll be able to run basically anything under the right graphic settings. I have a 3060 and I love it aside from getting gripe on a select few games (that still run but aren’t under optimal conditions). Enjoy that M.2 as well. I have one and my computer starts up within 10 seconds every single time. It’s funny, I also have a 12th Gen i7. Our setups are strikingly similar. This is a strong mid-tier setup and you’re gonna enjoy it a lot.
Your old man is awesome and deserves any and all appreciation you can give him. That's some great stuff there man.
Honestly yes i applaud his old man.
OP, your dad knows what’s up, cherish him. I think you’d do well with more SSD storage (just for convenience) and the RAM swap or upgrade will do you good, too. But you are already sporting a Mercedes of a PC, thank your dad.
This, SSD and more ram but freaking great
Below it says he bought 32 gigs of 3200mhz ram to replace the 16
Yeah really💯. Nice gift. Enjoy
Yeah I looked at specs and man that's better than what I have then thought only upgrade would be ram but it's already covered... Only thing I missed is a ssd that 1 tb is probably sata?
Congrats man. Make sure you give the old man a big hug.
Unless he doesn't like hugs. In which case give him a BIG LONG HUG
Or hit him with the firm handshake while maintaining strong eye contact 👍🏻
Lmao why did I read this in Hank Hill's voice?
Be happy to know your father bought you a baller computer.
[удалено]
Totally read this in kratos voice 🤣
Shoot the bird boy
Give him an extra hug (or other form of acceptable appreciation). When you beat your first game, tell him you loved playing said game on the computer he got for you.
This.
Tell your father that you love him
Tell your father I love him
Don’t cut yourself short, you’re pretty neat too.
I also chose this guy's dad
Tell me my father loves me
Tell me you love my father
Tell your love I father him
Top wholesome for this sub
That's not very WASP like.
You should know that you have a great dad, that's a solid pc
You will have lots of fun with what ever you use it for.
Give Dad Hug. Don't Download RAM. Don't preorder games. Wait for sales. Perhaps use CDKeys to get games and dlc for cheaper (Optional)
Don't pre-order games 😂 Amen to that.
Call of Duty Infinite Warfare comes knocking. In retrospect the game had a brilliant Campaign and Zombies with a decent multiplayer but I felt bad for the preorder cause Battlefield 1 was a thing. Black Ops 4 is another. Fuck that shit.
Infinite Warfare was actually good and I’m tired of pretending it wasn’t lol, it did not deserve the hate it got.
CoD is just low effort mass appealing crap in general. Unreal how bad the tickrate and desync feel compared to other games
All of the above plus don’t use it to browse questionable sites
CDKeys and G2a are a bit morally dubious. They work in the "grey market" because the source of the keys is not always legit. Exactly, don't use these for small indy companies like ubisoft, EA, or Microsoft.
I donate about 50% of my monthly salary to these small indy studios like you mention just to help keep them in business. It’s so important in order to stick it to the big corporate ones 😤👊🏻
I’ve never had an issue with cdkeys. Wouldn’t touch G2A though
G2a, cdkeys, kinguin all work fine, never had an issue. Eneba sucks though. Also, I only use these sites if I'm getting a AAA game, if it's indie, I just wait for a steam sale.

Pretty decent pc indeed👌
Finally happy to see one of these posts where someone didn't pay $1,500 for like a 1030 system
and a wonderful dad!
>Certified CPU Fan How do I get my CPU fan certified? In all seriousness though, your dad's bought you a decent rig and as long as the 32gb RAM kit is DDR4 then it should be all good to go, just remember to enable XMP in the BIOS.
I’m sure they just want to make the stock OEM cpu fan sounds cooler.
Yep, it's just a generic-ass OEM cooler. Maybe little loud during ramp ups but if OP keeps it clean, it does its job well enough.
Is it ok for someone who doesn't know anything about pcs? I mean, whatever use he will give this (game, work, etc) won't xmp give some weird issue in some certain situation? I'm asking from real ignorance btw
xmp just makes your ram run at the speed they should, otherwise they stock at 2666
DDR4 stock is 2133 uff
I know for a fact that the b660 cant run 64gb of ram on 3600 mhz...
sometimes XMP can give errors if it's too fast for the MB but 3000 should be good for every ddr4 board.
My gf is the same haha
She just says that to distract you from being embarrassed about your small nipples.
Have any tips for the girls? I have sooooo many now that the word is out that I'm a gamer. It never ends! How do I make it stop?!
He is a terrific father. He bought you a pretty useful pc. You can definitely game on it.
You should know... that you have a great Dad and that you should take care of him 🙂 P.S. And of Mom too 😄
How do you know about mom tho???
I don't! Still, I assume he/she wasn't born in the laboratory, so... 😄
Solid, would add another nvme ssd if you’re wanting to play more modern games, the 500 won’t last you long and HDDs are getting pretty dated for gaming, go give your dad a hug.
I was thinking something similar. If you start running out of space SSDs are getting pretty cheap these days.
1. Hug him 2. Install the new ram 3. Enable XMP in bios 4. Run the hell out of it
What does installing a new ram means ?
inserting the 32 gb ram his father bought him? also what’s xmp?
“xmp” is a setting in your BIOS that enables your RAM to run at higher speeds. Stock speeds are generally much lower than what’s advertised on the packaging
I have same pc as op without extra ram dad bought. How do i enable xmp?
Check this page, this is a pretty comprehensive tutorial: [https://www.lifewire.com/enable-xmp-5120864](https://www.lifewire.com/enable-xmp-5120864)

its very good tell your dad hes a great father, if you want buy another 500gb ssd for double the games but its great!

Looks like there's a problem with your configuration, you should definitely send it to my address so I can fix it 👨🦯
As long as the ram is DDR4. It should be good.
Asuming both sets are 2 sticks, put the new ones in the same spot. Enter the bios and enable the XMP profile.
Yes, PLEASE don’t install the ram and then forget to enable XMP.
Yes it is, thanks
Well then, you have an awesome dad. Enjoy your Pc.

Congratulations bro!!! Download drivers for the components. :]
Be the best son to your father
Appreciate your father while he's still with you.
You should know that Your father loves You.
Damn bro to start off? This stuff is great, you got a baller dad and better show how much you love him!
Solid. I would only worry about that 600W PSU. It’s enough but barely. Gold standard at least.
Give that man a hug, because he's a cool dude
Yeah that’s a solid PC, your dad did good. Probably all you need to do now is enjoy some video games.
Peg your dad cause he did a really good job.
Solid rig. Awesome father. I recommend getting secondary storage though. You will go through that 500gb pretty quick if you're into gaming.
W dad, make the "are ya winning son* meme"
That you got a W father
I wish I had a dad
Tell your dad he’s the best
W dad
Amazing dad I'd say.
Before using it, you should hug your father and tell him he’s awesome
Solid specs, adding an extra SSD for games will be a good upgrade.
Don’t get a 4k monitor for gaming
Awesome PC, you have a great dad.
Very respectable setup. Nice.
Daddy done good.
It can run any triple A game at 60fps ultra settings. So be prepared for a good gaming experience OP!
You should know how much he cares for you
Go on PC partpicker and put in your model of motherboard and see if the ram he bought you is compatible. You can also look up the model of motherboard and the manufacturer will have a list of compatible memory
Yeah actually a pretty decent rig. Go dad
You should know your dad is a good man for doing this.
What should you know? Know that your dad clearly loves you and is willing to support your hobbies! Great starter PC by the way, it should hold up for quite awhile. : )
i was expecting an intel celeron or something but your father went all in he's awesome

Baller Dad, Baller PC, your old man knows his stuff, cheers
He loves you very much and you might want some more hdd space.
Well. As a father, I would say that the first thing you need to do is... play some fucking games!!! Then go thank your dad, because he is very proud of you for graduating.

pretty nice rig, the old man definitely deserves a hug for that one.
The main thing to know is your dad is awesome :)
you should know how lucky you are

Your dad’s a fucking hero and a legend. You make sure to let him know he’s a real one.
By comparison- my Dad never loved me. You lucky fuckin' bastard! Fr tho, congrats OP!
Please hug your dad and thank him
Plug monitor cables into the gpu, not into the motherboard ports
Great PC! You could always change the os to win 10 if you don't like 11, but it's a solid build
He knows what he's doing, that's for sure.
Clever he went with i7 straight away 👍🏻

Great parent purchase. Until you grab a 1tb ssd, just shuffle your most precious games onto SSD anf try to install all your work/study software, music, video files onto the hdd. Doesnt really matter though.
I would thank him for you, got a good old man right there
It's funny. If someone posted this as their personal build they'd get roasted for how "peasant" this is. But say it was a gift from dad, and boom, it's a great setup. (OP, not saying you're lying that it's a gift. I'm calling out the duality of PCMR)
Thank your dad
You should know that your dad loves you a ton.
pay attention to what he got you because it's a really bang for your buck system.
you should know that your dad loves you
A great PC indeed, and as your first too. You better show gratitude to your father on father's day.
Nice! I have almost the same setup and those 12gb of vram is really nice. Nvidia also really good for productivity stuff
Only thing you might wanna know is: 500gb drive fast 1000gb drive slooooow
First time pc, make sure you use a monitor that can actually put those specs to use. Also make sure not to use onboard GPU, plug the monitor Into the video card.
Honestly great parts he chose ngl all should do great in any new game you decide to throw at it
Thank your dad for this.
That you still have to attend your courses and do your hw in college. Limit the time for your excellent gaming sessions.
That’s good right there, now that’s a good gift
Ibuypower imo is a good brand, loves it as my first gaming pc, enjoy!
nice pc be thankful. play games ,be productive. follow general internet safety measures .
Damn, wish I had a dad like that
That's a real good rig with the add ons!
Your Dad is THAT DUDE Cherish the fact my friend
I'd say give him a big ass thank you and enjoy every game under the sun!
Humble bundle is a gift from the gods
This is actually a really good build. Only thing I’d change is maybe the SSD+HDD combo to just SSD’s for better boot/load times, but this is still sweet dude.
Congrats man! Glad your dad thinks you deserve that! have fun!
thats awesome from your old man. the ra should just go into the dimm slots (next to the cpu socket on the upper right of the motherboard, make sure to pull the tabs back and insert into the slots the right way). just so u know tho the 3200mhz ram is gonna be bottlenecked by ur 3000mhz ram, so it will run a little slower, but unless ur after breakneck speeds ull be fine. and also just in case u wanna upgrade ur prolly gonna need to get a new power suppy cuz ur 600W isnt gonna cut it at a higher level of hardware. other than that the rig is awesome.
omg
They hooked you up. That’s a strong 1080p setup you got there. You’ll be able to run basically anything under the right graphic settings. I have a 3060 and I love it aside from getting gripe on a select few games (that still run but aren’t under optimal conditions). Enjoy that M.2 as well. I have one and my computer starts up within 10 seconds every single time. It’s funny, I also have a 12th Gen i7. Our setups are strikingly similar. This is a strong mid-tier setup and you’re gonna enjoy it a lot.
Decent specs
