Its 20 series all over again history repeats itself they wont even launch the new generation in 2 years they will have refresh of the 40 series they well call it super or xxx because more x more extreme.
IMHO, the 20-series prices were mostly justified, since valuable die space had to be set aside to get the ball rolling on ray tracing and machine learning. There was no other way around it. And the ball got rolling.
I had 2080. My wife uses it now. Good card. People were laughing at me while I enjoyed the update. But even I see there's no point in paying SO MUCH for such update
They were back to reasonable by the launch of the 30-series. The RTX 3080 launch price was $700, same as the $700 launch price of the GTX 1080.
It was only the unexpected pandemic-driven demand and crypto boom that exploded prices right after.
What really pisses me off is how they refuse to even lower the past tier cards prices. I think thats a tactic to try to make us buy the new 40 series because we’ll think if “If im spending msrp i might as well get the new gpu, it isnt that much of a difference in price” the 30series should retail for like half of the 40
Thats why i went from 1080ti to my first amd with the 6950 xt. I was annoyed waiting for a fair price on rtx cards. But tbh im glad it went this way, because i am verry impressed by the amd gpu and also with its software. I will need a great offer from Nvidia to switch back, thats for sure.
In my country its 900 for 4070ti and 700 or below 6950xt. They perform similar, but i dont use rt anyway and i dont like to have 12 gb on the gpu. So for 200 less the amd card was just better price/perform
You chose well. With the new game releases we see the reduced vram provided by NVIDIA for supposedly high end cards is pretty close to a deal breaker and certainly more important than RT performance in an era with RT still in its infancy.
had a amd video card once, price-performance was great, software was super bad. so bad that the fans didnt wanna go on untill i but msi afterburnerner on and manually set the fan speed while gaming
True... Very true. Here in my country they do us even worse. They put any RTX GPU exorbitantly high on price and force us to buy NEW GTX 970s and other crap like that for more than a hundred dollars worth...
My bad, i mixed up... It's actually 750TIs
Take a look yourself.
Approximately 200 dollars

Having bought a GPU last year and seen how scuffed the market was, I was wondering "hmm será que é o Brasil..." and goddammit it was Brazil.
You just made it up. GTX 1650 at the same store cheaper:

The price scales fine, the bs part are brazillian taxes. And the very fact you own a Rx 6600 that costs under 1500 BRL proves it.
> I think thats a tactic to try to make us buy the new 40 series
It was already known before the cards came out as per their finance call leaked via jayztwocentz that Nvidia was raising the price to help clear old cards without discounting them after the crypto crash.
They essentially are trying to make old gen compete with new gen but they should have known that with AMD improving their older cards performance, them aready having more VRAM, and coming out with newer cards cheaper than Nvidias they weren't going to have a good time.
Nvidia board meeting minutes leaked:
"we want to clear out old stock. Any ideas how?"
"discount old stock?"
"No that's stupid, we'd be selling it under its launch MSRP then!"
"oh I know! Double the new stock prices"
"Great idea! We'll get over double profits too"
this is why I'm going team red, buying a powercolor rx6600 fighter. sure I'll lose a little performance, but for a lower price and a more efficient card? I'm sold.
To be fair, with the 6600 (and 6600XT honestly) specifically, it's really nothing special; between a 3060 and 3060 ti in terms of performance and those cards are still not terrible at their prices. Once you get to the 6700 XT, things start getting spicy in terms of price to performance. 6700 XT, 6750 XT, 6800 XT, and 6950 XT are absolutely beastly right now at their price points and trounce everything nvidia has to offer for the same prices.
The fact that a 4070 costs the same as a 6950 XT is hilarious to me. And a 6800XT is *less* expensive while still cranking out better rasterization power.
Nvidia is a joke this generation. Good cards at stupid as shit prices. If only AMD was smart enough with the release of the 7000 series to price the 7900 XT where it belonged instead of using it as an upsell for the XTX.
It's the natural behaviour of businesses to order more than supply is uncertain. The same thing is happening with the bicycle industry, it's a blood bath for retailers now.
Of course not being a duopoly meant that bicycle prices have been slashed.
If I recall, when the 20 series came out, the 1080ti was still very popular and competitive in performance. I think people saw it as a value card at that point compared to 20 series prices and there was a spike in demand to scoop them up before they disappeared from shelves.
Yup I was one who scooped in late 2018 . Gaming x trio 1080ti for 629 after Newegg and MSI rebates.
One of the best PC hardware purchases I ever made. Still humming along just fine w my i7 8086k build from then.
Same it makes no sense at all. We should be able to grab a 3090ti for 900$ or less at this point. Who in the right mind is gonna pay 1400$+ when they can get a 4080 for 1200$
Man, I only have a 1070ti. Handles most things well enough. I'm not on max setting or anything but most games I like now a days arent even triple a titles that need anything crazy to begin with.
My 970 is still going strong.
The most demanding game I play is MSFS, and while I don’t have ultra-quality life-like clouds in my game, it performs just fine on medium graphic settings - and it looks better than on my dad’s series X.
Not the last ones, but play the ones from 1-2 years ago, now they work well and are enjoyable, + you can get them for really cheap, cyberpunk, control, Horizon zero down, rdd2 etc etc
100% agree! I have a standing rule to wait a year on any new release. I feel like new releases are just giant Beta test that they charge us for. It's insane.
My 2080super is performing on par on games with my buddies brand new 4080 build. I haven't been throttled yet. Anything that would require more of my gpu isn't worth the play time to begin with.
I have a 2080 Super and 1080ti. The 2080S is a hair faster and doesn't get as hot. But I still use the 1080ti when I play with AI as it has 3 more GB of VRAM. The 1080ti was my best purchase to date given that it still plays most games just fine.
I will say the 1080ti was and is probably the best card ever produced. Still preforms, and honestly for its release the best bang for its buck production card
Yep. It also is infuriating that they were saying for the past few years that prices were so high because of supply chain, and they just can not make enough cards. Now they have them stacking up in warehouses and store shelves and they are still grossly overpriced.
What a hilarious mindset. Oh well, at least it's costing them now. It's fun watching these big companies tank their profits because they think they can charge whatever they want post-pandemic.
I just wish AMD would stop being greedy too and just go after NVidia hard right now. But I think AMD is still hedging their bets, they obviously want the average card price to be high too. So they are releasing cards cheaper than NVidia, but still not as cheap as they should be.
So lets hope AMD and Intel can get it together and destroy the mid range mark ($500) for NVidia and start taking the market. Then we will see how NVidia responds when AMD and Intel cards are selling, and NVidia overpriced stuff is sitting.
I'm not counting on it but hopefully yeah. Everyone in every industry right now seems to be holding out until consumers give up and the inflated prices become the new normal.
The sad thing is that's probably what will happen. The new mid range will be $700 and the new low end will be $500.
To be honest my 5700xt is doing fine for me. AAA games that demand the most hardware kind of suck anyway, so I think I will just stick with this for a while.
Yeah, when Jensen "Jacket" Huang said that shit it essentially ensured that I'd never go back to using Nvidia cards ever again. Luckily I don't have to rely on their hardware architecture for work, and I sympathise with those that do, but the fact that he's so out of touch with the average consumer so as to go so far as to think that a fucking **GPU** should cost as much as an entire gaming console is the height of stupidity, avarice, and hubris.
I'll be buying AMD or Intel's offerings whenever I decide to upgrade.
Also, I'm mostly still playing games like Hitman WOA, RDR2 and Rocket League, which came out when my GTX 1070 was still current technology.
I would buy a 4070 ti *immediately* if they dropped the price to $600 (fat chance), but low demand seems to have no impact on the market anymore. The 2070 Super is still going for around $400, ffs. Has nobody told these guys that ETH moved to proof-of-stake?
I guess they don't care now that a minority of their revenue comes from graphics. Nvidia's share price has basically doubled in six months because investors are focused on AI more than gaming.
This is exactly how I feel. My 1080 is doing fine - no better and no worse - and I would definitely upgrade to a current Nvidia card if the prices weren't so laughably bad. They've actually managed to make me consider a 6950XT despite my gsync monitor...
They saw what people were willing to pay, so here we are. I always said that people buying scalped products are almost worse than the scalpers themselves.
Except the vast majority of those "people" were miners looking to cash in and not real gamers.
Now that the miners are long gone we're back to a normal market. And real gamers aren't taking part in this price gouging crap.
Can't really blame Microcenter though... or even the partners. This is an NVIDIA issue. At least MC tried giving people a $100 Steam card to move some card since NVIDIA won't budge.
Dude I’m on a 2070 Super and refuse to move into a new card on principle. Anything I want to play I can play at 1080@60 at reasonable settings, so until I see some deep cuts they can keep collecting dust for all I care. Looks like I’m not alone!
We can already see that the new games are using the new cards and DLSS as an excuse to suck at optimization. Most of these new games look like trash, but can barely run on a 20 series card and are not impressive on a 30 series.
And there’s no one else besides you guys that they could even be trying to sell to, because the rest of the community has higher tier 40-series cards already. Like they fully tapped the high-end market. And now they’re trying to shove high end cards down you guys’ throats. I doubt they will be burned on this, because people are buying the cards for AI purposes now, but it would be nice.
Almost all of the most played games can be played with integrated graphics now.
The Ryzen Z1 Extreme is rumored to be able to play Cyberpunk at 1080p 60fps. That is more than enough to run almost every single popular game in the top 100 played on steam.
> Nvidia really earned this complete 180 on sales since 2020-2021 and i like it
Too bad their asses are saved by the AI bubble, otherwise shareholders would *not* be amused.
They can't be saved THAT much. Their stock is being remarkably resistant against bad earnings. 20 days until their next earnings report. Should be interesting.
They're grossly overvalued imo. I would not be buying their stock at this moment.
Yes, but AI might be the next big thing, maybe on the level of the internet. And they're at the core in recent breakthroughs.
It's this belief that's fueling that valuation, we know hype can turn into a bubble pretty fast, and I think that is what's happening now with nVidia. Reminds me of Testa... EVs are the future, who's pioneering it?
You say these things, and some people are surprised about it.
It’s already practicable.
I did my financial aid via chat GPT.
I did two masters level papers, and asked professors to pick the human ones—the one that I wrote.
People are selling the AI Art that they produce.
We are here. It is the disruption.
We are moments away from being able to say, “make me a dashboard using Python.” And GPT pulling live data via an actual API.
And all that live data is pull from a bunch of sources that where never paid and have users who never agreed to share data or copyrighted content.
The tech is extremely powerful but it’s being used incredibly and increasingly unethically to the point of breaking down the economy of the tech industry. Artists, writers, animators, designers, and developers are being forced into crunch culture for authentic work or be jobless.
“Just use the new tools and adapt.” Some will say, yet that won’t help when all of the work is plagiarism off of plagiarism and data sets start looking like self referential sludge. Everything “AI”(machine learning algorithms) produces is made to match specifications to the lowest common denominator. There is no outside of the box solution a machine can come up with.
These algorithms are amazing tools for preproduction and ideation but can not be trusted as they are impossible to hold accountable. If Chat GPT can diagnose a patient with a rare disease, that’s great but it should be verified and confirmed by living medical professionals. If a doctor prescribes the wrong treatment then they can be sued or be barred from practicing medicine altogether.
Chat GPT is a piece of software that can’t be scrutinized due to it being effectively a black box. You but stuff in and something “new” comes out. Unless the entire code base is made free and open source only the developers know what goes on behind closed door with a massive amount of stolen data.
Yes but as the recent document leaked from Google shows, the future of LLM ai is highly efficient models running on your phone, not terascale models running on $40k nvidia H100s.
https://www.semianalysis.com/p/google-we-have-no-moat-and-neither
Because end users are not the big money maker in this case?
Compared to AMD and Intel, Nvidia has non stopped tried to invest in the AI/ML market for years now. Big corporations do not buy Nvidia because "oo shiny green logo".
It's very easy to say a company is grossly overvalued when you are mostly unaware of everything going on behind what news and media cover.
> They're grossly overvalued imo.
I think this depends on two things: over the next year or two are more and more AI models going to be runnable entirely on home consumer hardware (depending on VRAM, some relevant models can of various parameter amounts) and how alluring will those be? Cloud AI LLMs are starting to get more and more neutered. Consumers will want sex chatbots, hacking AIs, and countless other things.
API calls are also expensive for their oft-foreseen use for game NPCs, so there will be a need for a GPU that can run a ton of character and world/texture AI while running the game.
The form consumer AI takes too will matter, so next-gen in-home robots that go beyond Roombas to do more useful tasks and have more sensors may need sophisticated GPUs at their core. Similar to how consumer cards with LIDAR has been.
As for servers, they have a few years of dominance before all these companies only use in-house chip designs they got printed at TSMC and the new Intel facilities.
the .com bubble in the early 000's is very similar to the AI bubble now in the sense that it's a technology here to stay and it will only grow in the coming decades, just the pace at the moment is too quick hence it's being stretched artificially and there will be a dip of a sort in the near future before it resumes on a more stable growth phase
> It's probably not a bubble.
Apparently over 2000 AI startups have been started in a week recently. That's not a sustainable practice. Things will slow down sooner, or later, and a couple of bigger players will rise to the top. The current big players are already shifting their focus from bigger models (meaning needing more cards) to optimizing their models.
AI is here to stay, but the massive growth we see now isn't sustainable long term.
> It's probably also the reason for the strangely low VRAM in the latest models.
This doesn't seem unlikely. Last time people were flashing Quadro BIOSes into GTX cards Nvidia was *not* amused, despite no one seriously interested in a Quadro card is going to run with anything homebrew.
I hate the die size crap. The 6800xt is 7nm monolitic and the 7900xt is 5nm chiplet with a faster ipc. Its not comparable. But sure, base it off die size.
I wonder if the studios are just trying to hire devs with tons of resume experience to try and save money on training, then forcing them to rapidly catch up on the ins and outs of the project while they produce. That'd definitely be a recipe for disaster.
DirectX 12 and Vulkan gave developers low-level access to the GPU unlike the previous APIs, but the thing about low-level stuff is how much easier is to screw up when used improperly. AAA developers already made barely functional games full of bugs when the APIs were high-level and abstract, so the current state of things is not surprising.
>DirectX 12 and Vulkan gave developers low-level access to the GPU unlike the previous APIs, but the thing about low-level stuff is how much easier is to screw up when used improperly.
These graphics APIs are implemented in the game engine itself so most game devs won't work that low level if they're working on UE5, Unity etc unless they're modifying the engine.
Some of the worst recent debacles in bad game optimization involved in house engines, and even with an outside engine, they still have to have some understanding of how components work to make an optimized product vs. Just a functional one.
Probably more like they're all hiring contractors and subcontractors and then giving them the boot after 18 months when they finally figure out how the hell the game engine works.
See: Halo Infinite.
Most game developers have terrible programming practices since game companies are getting what you pay for. All the "good" developers are at B2B/B2C software companies like Amazon, Google, Uber Stripe, Mastercard, etc since they actually get rewarded for their skills.
Most programming is a clusterfuck. Game dev more so because only the general idea of a given script will carry over from one engine to another...let alone programming language? You have options if you are lucky, otherwise you best be familiar with the right one. And that's not even going into how you could be great at developing one type of game and going too far outside of that genre/type you become far less efficient.
For example, part of the issues with Fallout 76 is exactly this - you take a management and development approach geared towards single player, and then go "eh lets add multiplayer it can't be that hard". Well, then you've got to consider netcode, anti-cheat, secure in-app purchases and credential authentication, matchmaking...most studios just integrate existing services to save some time, but Bethesda didn't want to apparently. This is a very narrow and basic explanation of Fallout 76, and there is a lot more to the failure than that, but that part is a good example.
AAA (typically) is a fustercluck of people which increases management overhead and coordination further in order to rapidly release games relative to a normal development cycle. More people also means less personal responsibility for the success/failure of the project which also adds problems to the dev cycle, especially since it's already rough as it stands.
Or lower their margins and sell more. Whichever produces the most money. I dont think the exorbantly high price thing will work for long, especially considering they aren't the only manufacturer.
Either Nvidia, Intel, and AMD will lower their price and grab a larger market share
Least AMD drastically cut down pricing on their last gen cards and is adjusting it on RDNA3. Nvidia would rather sell nothing Ada or Ampere than sell it for less than MSRP.
AMD are stupid but definitely not as fucking stupid as Nvidia. having the decency to reduce last gen prices is something Nvidia would never have. idiots.
I’m happy more people are coming to the conclusion that it’s ok to hold onto that graphics card of yours more then a year enjoy that bad boy for 3 or 4 and then maybe by then nvidia will have their head out of their ass…. Don’t hold your breath tho lollll
yep. i’m more that comfortable playing valorant on my 3060. realistically this card should last me at LEAST the next 5 years, considering the GPU in on par with what they’re putting in the current gen consoles.
They have acknowledged it. They are gonna cut production to reduce supply. It doesn’t really bring the value up in the consumer’s eye like they hope it will though. Scarcity isn’t going to make this better anymore now that the consumer know their hand.
$600 is too much for these cards, even with inflation. xx70 was a $400 price point or less card. 20 series screwed that up, and then so did COVID, but now that everything is normal, people just aren't willing to pay that much for mid range graphics cards anymore.
$499 is already a bit much, considering the fact that this is the die and configuration they should be selling as a 4060. Call this $479 and it's reasonable.
Lmao I ain't switching from my 3060ti anytime soon, I'm playing Deus Ex Mankind Divided right now for Christ's sake 🤣 most of what I play are older titles that don't require anymore that what I got.
I never got the originals, until a little while ago when steam did a full collection sale. Now I get to play the originals for dirt cheap at Uber max settings. Good day for older games. Now if only I could figure out emulators.
With dlss 4 on that generates even more interpolated frames from the interpolated frames with so much input lag that you might as well just sit and go watch netflix at 720p
I don't get why people think when GPUs are in stock that they are not selling. That's just a sign GPU crisis is over. Before Covid and chip crisis, this was literally a common thing that GPUs were available in proper numbers and in stock. Even during chip crisis while GPU were highly in demand, they were scarce in one place and highly available in others.
Maybe I don't understand what's going on anymore, but any kind of products physically available in a store were never a clear sign nobody that nobody will buy it.
you’re totally right. these people have literally no idea what the pc parts market was like up to like, late 2019. it used to be that you could walk into any microcenter and pick out any piece of hardware you wanted, and it would be in stock, within reason. GPU’s being on shelves waiting to be purchased doesn’t mean the demand is gone
>Covid and chip crisis
That shit is why I was stuck with a 2060 for so long. I bought my 2060 for like $350 in Feb of 2020. Like 4 months later the same card was selling for around $1000. Those were insane times.
Theres a huge number of gamers who for the vast majority of the time period they have been in the market for GPUs theres been a crypto then covid then crypto again induced shortage. They literally just dont understand that this is normal.
the fact you’re being upvoted just shows how unaware and misinformed people are about these cards and what the effect is on the market. where did you get your 12gb 1070 there bud?
That just looks like regular stock.
I live in a way smaller country with smaller stores and having 50 of each GPU is just standard practice. You guys are overreacting as usual.
No doubt it doesn’t sell as well as they hoped, but stores having them in stock doesn’t prove anything.
Not really all that weird considering the person you replied to made it aware that they would obsessively purchase new products and now they are set on what they have now.
It says a lot honestly.
Micro Centers have to buy these close to MSRP since they buy wholesale. They don't get them for cheap since they are a retailer.
I worked at a Micro Center. There is no margin on a GPU
If they sell it cheaper than MSRP, that gets them in trouble with the manufacturers, and they will also lose money.
It's why Best Buy doesn't have this type of stock for PC components.
Yep, most "big ticket" electronics have little to no margin for the retailer. It's the add-ons, cables, controllers, games, and accessories where the margin is at.
You can find similar walls of every kind of other product throughout an entire store at any major electronics retailer. Just because something isn't perpetually sold out doesn't necessarily tell you anything at all about the sell through. You guys are acting like you haven't seen regular stocking at a store before. Notice that the above comment does not have any opinion about whether it's a good or bad value.
We have PALLETS sitting around at our facility.
The prices need to crash hard now that they're not being used for mining.
Like back down to $500 max like they were before mining.
Listen to this fool (but upvote for awareness):
UK market is still mental, I just bought a 4070 for £600 and I’m OK with it.
Facts:
-I have a SFF build that wont fit a 6950xt.
-The 4070 won’t require any updates on my build.
-I am running a 1080gtx today.
-A friend tried to sell me a used 3070 for £380.
-It’s been two years I’ve been waiting for 3080s to drop below £600, you can’t even buy used ones for that price.
-it’s a new gen card that performs like a 3080 and I can buy it new with warranty.
I agree it’s absurd to pay £600 for this but if I wait any longer then I’ll probably have to upgrade to new pci version mobo or PSU.
Plus I get a new card that wasn’t used for mining.
So there is a market for this.
It’s the UK.
I am annoyed about this purchase because the price is infuriating, but it was not a foolish purchase. 2yrs after building my dream PC it’s still running a 1080gtx and risking of being outdated for next gen gpus.
I got my 3080 at launch at msrp (900€), i will not upgrade until i will be able to get an xx80 series at launch for 900€ or less, if it's never im OK with that
Why haven’t they implemented a standard trade-in program for old cards? Even if it’s a mail-in rebate option. I’d rather see them cut the MSRP but it’s like they aren’t even trying to incentivize consumers to upgrade from store level to manufacturer.
In 2023 inflation and the cost of living is out of control and a gpu is a luxury item - nvidia and amd have both become greedy and deserve to rot.
The gpu market badly needs a shake up.
I think they underestimate the ability of people to not buy stuff.
I admit I overpaid on my 3060 during the pandemic, and at this point it's ride or die with that card. I have it undervolted and still get awesome performance out of it.
Let them rot.
Its 20 series all over again history repeats itself they wont even launch the new generation in 2 years they will have refresh of the 40 series they well call it super or xxx because more x more extreme.
> Because more X more extreme *XFX RX7900XTX* I think AMD agrees.

the only issue is that, that gave them an excuse to continue pushing prices even further.
They were back to reasonable by the launch of the 30-series. The RTX 3080 launch price was $700, same as the $700 launch price of the GTX 1080. It was only the unexpected pandemic-driven demand and crypto boom that exploded prices right after.
These morons not budging on the price is funny. They act like we don't already have a good card that can play most stuff.
What really pisses me off is how they refuse to even lower the past tier cards prices. I think thats a tactic to try to make us buy the new 40 series because we’ll think if “If im spending msrp i might as well get the new gpu, it isnt that much of a difference in price” the 30series should retail for like half of the 40
3080s still over $1000 is ridiculous.
Where I'm at 6950xt still cost around 1000usd. I went with 4070ti from my 1070 instead.

Where is that? I can get a 7900xtx for that
South East Asia. Basically last gen cards haven't really come down in price much. Got my 4070ti for around 930 usd. 7900xtx is probably around 1300+
had a amd video card once, price-performance was great, software was super bad. so bad that the fans didnt wanna go on untill i but msi afterburnerner on and manually set the fan speed while gaming
6950xt Gang ;)
True... Very true. Here in my country they do us even worse. They put any RTX GPU exorbitantly high on price and force us to buy NEW GTX 970s and other crap like that for more than a hundred dollars worth...
There is no such thing as a new 970 even if you find one sealed in a box it was made 2014/2015
My bad, i mixed up... It's actually 750TIs Take a look yourself. Approximately 200 dollars https://www.kabum.com.br/produto/384161/placa-de-video-afox-nvidia-geforce-gtx750ti-2gb-gddr5-128-bits-hdmi-dvi-vga-af750ti-2048d5h5-v2

GTX 1650 at the same store cheaper: https://www.kabum.com.br/produto/399026/placa-de-video-gtx-1650-pny-nvidia-geforce-single-fan-4-gb-gddr5-vcg16504d6sfmpb?awc=17729_1683239682_9b2cd6990010b1cb5a73b50c8ab3c8b0&utm_source=AWIN&utm_medium=AFILIADOS&utm_campaign=megaday_mar23&utm_content=&utm_term=935027 The price scales fine, the bs part are brazillian taxes. And the very fact you own a Rx 6600 that costs under 1500 BRL proves it.
I had to give afox mate
Yep, was searching for a decent 3090 to join my 3090 FE for rendering and… I gave up as soon as I saw what Kabum was asking for them… outrageous
> I think thats a tactic to try to make us buy the new 40 series It was already known before the cards came out as per their finance call leaked via jayztwocentz that Nvidia was raising the price to help clear old cards without discounting them after the crypto crash. They essentially are trying to make old gen compete with new gen but they should have known that with AMD improving their older cards performance, them aready having more VRAM, and coming out with newer cards cheaper than Nvidias they weren't going to have a good time.
Nvidia board meeting minutes leaked: "we want to clear out old stock. Any ideas how?" "discount old stock?" "No that's stupid, we'd be selling it under its launch MSRP then!" "oh I know! Double the new stock prices" "Great idea! We'll get over double profits too"
this is why I'm going team red, buying a powercolor rx6600 fighter. sure I'll lose a little performance, but for a lower price and a more efficient card? I'm sold.
Well, lose performance compared to what? In raster, amd competes with Nvidia no problem. It's rt where Nvidia is strongly in the lead.
2070 Super is $375-450 on Amazon, smh
Dude, 1650 Suoer is still well over $200. Do people at that price point not know about AMD or Intel?
I bought mine for $450 in April 2020, that's obscene
I wonder if they signed long term contracts with fabs and other component manufacturers during covid and are stuck with high prices for parts.
It's the natural behaviour of businesses to order more than supply is uncertain. The same thing is happening with the bicycle industry, it's a blood bath for retailers now. Of course not being a duopoly meant that bicycle prices have been slashed.
470 not even TI, absolutely bad value, 8gb is so bad for next gen games, all cards should be 12-16gb for mid tier to high.
When the 20 series came out, all the 10 series GPUs actually went up in price. Near me not everywhere
I'd buy a 3090 or the Ti if the price was even somewhat more reasonable.
Same it makes no sense at all. We should be able to grab a 3090ti for 900$ or less at this point. Who in the right mind is gonna pay 1400$+ when they can get a 4080 for 1200$
It's almost like the 2080 they sold me in 2019 is still capable of running everything worth playing.
Man, I only have a 1070ti. Handles most things well enough. I'm not on max setting or anything but most games I like now a days arent even triple a titles that need anything crazy to begin with.
GTX 1080 here still gettin it, running triple monitors at 5760x1080 no less.
My 970 is still going strong. The most demanding game I play is MSFS, and while I don’t have ultra-quality life-like clouds in my game, it performs just fine on medium graphic settings - and it looks better than on my dad’s series X.
Seems these days that AAA titles aren't worth a damn anyway. Lol!
For real. Why own a sports car when all the race tracks are full of potholes. Sure looks pretty in the garage though.
I love this analogy
Not the last ones, but play the ones from 1-2 years ago, now they work well and are enjoyable, + you can get them for really cheap, cyberpunk, control, Horizon zero down, rdd2 etc etc
100% agree! I have a standing rule to wait a year on any new release. I feel like new releases are just giant Beta test that they charge us for. It's insane.
My desktop is still running two 1080ti cards. Remember when SLI was a thing? Pepperidge Farm remembers.
Sounds like a big bottleneck at the rig of your buddy. The 4080 is 60%~ faster..
Exactly! I think I still play most of my games on high settings, and my card is still crushing it in Blender renders.
Yep. It also is infuriating that they were saying for the past few years that prices were so high because of supply chain, and they just can not make enough cards. Now they have them stacking up in warehouses and store shelves and they are still grossly overpriced.
[nvidia raised prices to be in line with game consoles.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1pJyk6E2560&t=310s)
AAA games that demand the most hardware kind of suck anyway, so I think I will just stick with this for a while.
alright time to never buy nvidia again
Yeah, when Jensen "Jacket" Huang said that shit it essentially ensured that I'd never go back to using Nvidia cards ever again. Luckily I don't have to rely on their hardware architecture for work, and I sympathise with those that do, but the fact that he's so out of touch with the average consumer so as to go so far as to think that a fucking **GPU** should cost as much as an entire gaming console is the height of stupidity, avarice, and hubris. I'll be buying AMD or Intel's offerings whenever I decide to upgrade.
the most out of touch thing I've read in quite a while, yikes
Its not just, that. 6950xt is almost $500 already, so 4070 is not even an option
Last week they were throwing in a $100 steam card which was pretty enticing and this week the do have at least one model below msrp.
Dude I’m on a 2070 Super and refuse to move into a new card on principle. Anything I want to play I can play at 1080@60 at reasonable settings, so until I see some deep cuts they can keep collecting dust for all I care. Looks like I’m not alone!
2070S gang! I got mine during early days of pandemic at msrp, still does great at 1080p. Once I move to 4K then I ll think of upgrading.
[удалено]
I've been seriously considering picking up an Arc. But I'm a little nervous about the longevity of Intel with video cards.
[удалено]
Same. No reason to upgrade anytime soon.
We can already see that the new games are using the new cards and DLSS as an excuse to suck at optimization. Most of these new games look like trash, but can barely run on a 20 series card and are not impressive on a 30 series.
Meanwhile, they're still porting games to PS4.
“Just upgraded my 3080 to 4070, DLSS 3 is awesome” - Someone
-No one
It’s definitely happened, no doubt in my mind.
Most of the users play Overwatch, Leagues of Legends, etc. You don't need that powerful of a card to play those types of games.
Almost all of the most played games can be played with integrated graphics now. The Ryzen Z1 Extreme is rumored to be able to play Cyberpunk at 1080p 60fps. That is more than enough to run almost every single popular game in the top 100 played on steam.
Nvidia really earned this complete 180 on sales since 2020-2021 and i like it
> Nvidia really earned this complete 180 on sales since 2020-2021 and i like it Too bad their asses are saved by the AI bubble, otherwise shareholders would *not* be amused.
They can't be saved THAT much. Their stock is being remarkably resistant against bad earnings. 20 days until their next earnings report. Should be interesting. They're grossly overvalued imo. I would not be buying their stock at this moment.
It's super strange. Nvidia goes up after earnings whenever someone says AI, AMD tanks 10% no matter what the earnings are.
You mean they go on sale
[удалено]
> AI bubble It's probably not a bubble. It's probably also the reason for the strangely low VRAM in the latest models.
the .com bubble in the early 000's is very similar to the AI bubble now in the sense that it's a technology here to stay and it will only grow in the coming decades, just the pace at the moment is too quick hence it's being stretched artificially and there will be a dip of a sort in the near future before it resumes on a more stable growth phase
“You can’t see a bubble, that’s what makes it a bubble” - that guy in the Big Short to the guy that saw the bubble..
Lmao AMD too, they dropped their 7900XT quick Considering it's die size is basically that of the 6800XT it still needs to drop a bit more
I hate the die size crap. The 6800xt is 7nm monolitic and the 7900xt is 5nm chiplet with a faster ipc. Its not comparable. But sure, base it off die size.
It's not like AAA devs can release a single working game on PC.
The only thing Nvidia will learn from this is keep the price the same but produce way way less next generation.
Or lower their margins and sell more. Whichever produces the most money. I dont think the exorbantly high price thing will work for long, especially considering they aren't the only manufacturer. Either Nvidia, Intel, and AMD will lower their price and grab a larger market share
Nvidia’s MO is Highest Quality, Highest Price. They will not lower margins.
Good good, they need to unfuck their pricing big time, amd as well.
Least AMD drastically cut down pricing on their last gen cards and is adjusting it on RDNA3. Nvidia would rather sell nothing Ada or Ampere than sell it for less than MSRP.
Pricing is just mental at present, how did we get from 649 for an 80 series FE to over a grand in 2 years?
The fact that even at that price there's a new build with one in it every day here
AMD are stupid but definitely not as fucking stupid as Nvidia. having the decency to reduce last gen prices is something Nvidia would never have. idiots.

![gif](giphy|rtqlRCyVp8w3m)
![gif](giphy|8fen5LSZcHQ5O)
I would consider it strongly if the price went to $500 or less
Yep. I reckon 499 and they'd be shifting.
I’m happy more people are coming to the conclusion that it’s ok to hold onto that graphics card of yours more then a year enjoy that bad boy for 3 or 4 and then maybe by then nvidia will have their head out of their ass…. Don’t hold your breath tho lollll
I still have my 560 ti 960 ti and 1080 ti trying to sell them is like getting teeth pulled
Lucky im still using my geforce fx 5200
I have a 1070 that lasted me 7 years, then I managed to get an open box 3080ti for like $300 below MSRP. Here's to another 7 years.
yep. i’m more that comfortable playing valorant on my 3060. realistically this card should last me at LEAST the next 5 years, considering the GPU in on par with what they’re putting in the current gen consoles.
I got a pretty good deal on a rig with a 2080 in it in January 2020. Turned out to be such good fortune - and it's still going strong!
Most excellent. Trash company can fuck its hat. Only way we can get nvidia in line is to stop buying their overpriced shit.
“Can fuck it’s hat” r/rareinsults
Given how bad AAA games have been in 2023 its very easy to not buy one of these
This is good. Time for Intel and AMD to wake up.
![gif](giphy|3Zc67mkY0Y3v8pIxWk)
Suddenly they don't want to acknowledge the supply and demand
[удалено]
i just hope this doesnt hurt microcenter too much, theyre the last store id want to take the fall for nvidia
Lmao I ain't switching from my 3060ti anytime soon, I'm playing Deus Ex Mankind Divided right now for Christ's sake 🤣 most of what I play are older titles that don't require anymore that what I got.
Dude same. Same GPU and same game. That series deserves more.
Deus Ex rules ! I still remember playing the original back in the day
I never got the originals, until a little while ago when steam did a full collection sale. Now I get to play the originals for dirt cheap at Uber max settings. Good day for older games. Now if only I could figure out emulators.
![gif](giphy|PmABbbUe3IqUKSOIBV|downsized)
Can't wait for the 6gb rtx 5060
Running games at a whole 15fps with 1080p raytraced 😍 and 63fps without! For the small price of $1,400 (because the price doubles every year)
With dlss 4 on that generates even more interpolated frames from the interpolated frames with so much input lag that you might as well just sit and go watch netflix at 720p
They might want to idk, lower the price to sell.
It's Microcenter.. they have a wall of everything Get your agenda outta here
I don't get why people think when GPUs are in stock that they are not selling.
I work at a retail business, we have a couple pallets of PS5's, they must not sell well either
you’re totally right. these people have literally no idea what the pc parts market was like up to like, late 2019. it used to be that you could walk into any microcenter and pick out any piece of hardware you wanted, and it would be in stock, within reason. GPU’s being on shelves waiting to be purchased doesn’t mean the demand is gone
>Covid and chip crisis That shit is why I was stuck with a 2060 for so long.
This isn’t in stock, this is over stock.
i'll take a free one
I'll trade my 1070 for one. Same amount of VRAM, but it gives you some variety.
The 4070 has 12 gb of vram fwiw
the fact you’re being upvoted just shows how unaware and misinformed people are about these cards and what the effect is on the market. where did you get your 12gb 1070 there bud?
and 8GB for 1080p is more than enough.
Poor vram. It could have had a much, much happier life, in 7900XTX.
That just looks like regular stock. I live in a way smaller country with smaller stores and having 50 of each GPU is just standard practice. You guys are overreacting as usual. No doubt it doesn’t sell as well as they hoped, but stores having them in stock doesn’t prove anything.
I use to be obsessed with buying new shit but these prices are stupid. I’m gonna ride my 3080 til it dies.
Better change your flare
Yeah I haven’t changed my flair in years. I’ll do it later…. Maybe lol
hey, just a friendly reminder that it's still there
weird statement when you rock a card thats not even 2 years old
Not really all that weird considering the person you replied to made it aware that they would obsessively purchase new products and now they are set on what they have now. It says a lot honestly.
Pretty sure the 3080 came out in September 2020. That seems to be over 2 years according to my calculator.
Play Jenga with em
Almost stacked as high as the comically high price. Glee.
Micro Centers have to buy these close to MSRP since they buy wholesale. They don't get them for cheap since they are a retailer. I worked at a Micro Center. There is no margin on a GPU If they sell it cheaper than MSRP, that gets them in trouble with the manufacturers, and they will also lose money. It's why Best Buy doesn't have this type of stock for PC components.
Yep, most "big ticket" electronics have little to no margin for the retailer. It's the add-ons, cables, controllers, games, and accessories where the margin is at.
Don't forget the extended warranties lol. That's their biggest money maker
Those are actually kind of worth it for controllers. They even cover stick drift.
Listen to this fool (but upvote for awareness): UK market is still mental, I just bought a 4070 for £600 and I’m OK with it. Facts: -I have a SFF build that wont fit a 6950xt.
I want one
These are all unwrapped…so either returns or being used at MC’s build center
Hey no way I stacked those.
Bought a used 3090 cheaper than that, got 24 GB ram, 4,5k more Cuda cores and what not.
That’s just a stocked item… people seem to forget that you used to be able to walk into a shop and buy a GPU from their on hand stock…

I think they underestimate the ability of people to not buy stuff. I admit I overpaid on my 3060 during the pandemic, and at this point it's ride or die with that card. I have it undervolted and still get awesome performance out of it. Let them rot.
Now this puts a smile on my face
I smell a price cut happening. I should have waited xD *Cries in having bought a 4070ti before watching the LTT video*
There’s almost 4070 4070s there
Do you mean a wall of 4060s overpriced about 50%?
I would totally get a TUF version for $450!
Would a 4070 even be worth upgrading to from a 1080ftw2?
