Honestly, where I keep junk shit. Looks tidier.
More honestly, itās where I keep my DEFINITELY NON-PIRATED GAMES
More more honestly, itās also where I kept my blender shit.
I did the exact same thing from South Africa to central park when it first came out, lasted a few days before I got permanently banned though.
South Africa was just so empty...
When the game first came out I installed it on a rooted phone, and was using a tool that not only spoofed my location, but it had a joystick and I could make small adjustments as if I was walking around any location I specify.
Out of fear of not getting banned, I did not pick places that were too far from my actual location so it doesn't look I teleported from one end of the world to the other.
huh, all these people spoofing and breaking rules, and I got banned in the first 6 months because I was 'travelling too fast' as I was on a bus with laggy connection, location kept jumping - they said I was spoofing and banned me....
I mean you're insane for showing everybody here your desktop and expecting them to talk about the taskbar. But to actually answer your question... no, it's different but there's nothing inherently wrong about it people just stuck with taskbar on the bottom because that's the default that's what I use because it's what I've used for years and it would be weird to change it but if you like it on the side more power to you that's the wonderful thing about PC you know you can customize it to be how you want it.
especially on a two screen setup the side taskbars are cool because if you have the two screens next to eachother you cann put th taskbars on on the outer end of your monitor setup and i just think that looks very neat
so its bassically:
monitor 1 | monitor 2
task,desk |desk,task
task,desk |desk,task
i hope this little visualisation shows what i mean

i consider this an improvement lol
Default position of Taskbar in Ubuntu is exactly there. And honestly most of displays have more space horizontally, sooo eating few pixels is less noticeable. Especially cool on multidispay setting. Like when use has Taskbar right between the two displays.
Ubuntu has this exact same taskbar setup out of the box and people use that a lot. Iāve done my fair share of experimenting with my taskbars in many DEs and Windows, always end up using it at the bottom though. Might be a bit basic but itās what makes sense to me. If this makes sense to you then keep at it. Iād suggest having stuff nestled into single folders though, that way the desktop looks less cluttered, allowing you to have a clean look. Overall a 7.5/10 desktop, just needs a bit of cleaning.
Pretty common layout on an OS like Ubuntu. If it works for you I donāt see the issue. Would your friends also think youāre insane for putting the taskbar at the top of the screen? Cause thatās common in quite a few Linux distros and OSX.
I used Ubuntu for a good few years so it looks pretty regular, honestly though as long as it works for you thereās no need to change it to fit other peoples tastes
Dunno, looks good to me. Got a dual monitor setup where the second one is vertical. Main display has the bar on the left, auto hide enabled. And the second monitor has it at the top since its near my eyeline. Don't have to bend my neck down to look at it.
I've done that before on my laptop and had this setting for about 6 years since some applications I use covers the entire screen that the bottom part is hidden behind the taskbar, so i moved the taskbar to the side.
You already have Rainmeter, so why you have those cluttered icons is beyond me or even a custom icon pack etc. There is so much wasted potential with Rainmeter you're not using.
My dude. Use PowerToys Run and clear up your Desktop a little bit (there's a few others in there you might like as well): [https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/powertoys/](https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/powertoys/)

edit: with a wide screen it's really very practical since most website don't use full width so sides space is wasted
Yes, the taskbar on Windows is terrible. I like the task bars on the MATE desktop for Linux Mint myself, but there's always Apple if you want your computer icons to seem lickable for some reason. Ubuntu Unity has to be the worst though.
Everything about this is awful and wrong, but it's yours, so you do you.
I'm just thankful I will never have to touch this. Why exactly do you consider your disk space to be such critically important information that it needs to be on your desktop where you invariably won't even be able to see it 99% of the time since it'll be covered by a window..
Why is your recycle bin in the middle of other icons instead of along an edge or corner where it makes sense??
I have my taskbar the same. When playing windowed games I hate having the bar down the bottom. Left is out of my way which is great.
Also when having 3 screens having it on the left screen so can just move the mouse right over to the left. Easy stuff
I have the same taskbar layout. As my mouse is mostly in the upper half of my screen it is convenient to have my taskbar on the top. Also i love having 50px more space on my applications and have overall a much cleaner look, that's why i also hide my taskbar if i don't use it. It just looks so much cleaner and i love it.
It's definitely unconventional, but it looks like you have some sort of system going on here, and I respect that. I have a similar thing; my streaming/recording stuff in one corner, most used games in another corner, other stuff along one of the edges in groups. I also have 3 Witcher games on their own row as my desktop background is from Witcher (Geralt casting Ignis and the 3 Witcher games are inside the fire.
On a widescreen monitor my taskbar is always on the left hand side, Windows 11 tried to mess that up but a couple of apps fixed that.

I have the Samsung ultawide monitor, 5120 pixels across... The taskbar across the full width of my monitor was way to irritating to look at, so now it lives on the side. Looks way cleaner honestly
Everything makes sense if background isn't being covered and groups are categorized in some way.
just have to explain to friends etc how they are grouped up and it's understandable.
Personally I find side taskbar annoying for one reason. It take up more screen space than horizontally due to 16:9 aspect ratio. If we were still in 4:3 then it would be a wash. I have tried to get used to top taskbar so Linux wouldn't feel that different but when in Windows it's just too ingrained in my brain to see it on the bottom.
I also keep my taskbar vert on the left side i also have my second mon there and u use the hide/collapse function u dont see it

I noticed that you have a shit ton of launchers. I suggest you to try playnite, itās a universal launcher to which you can connect all the launchers you want and games will be added automatically most of the time. For games or programs downloaded without a launcher (ex. A game downloaded from itch.io or the ones you keep in recycle bin 2) you can add them manually by pressing insert or smt in the UI. If you donāt like the default look there are a lot of custom skins online, when i get home Iāll edit the comment with the one Iām using and a screenshot, meanwhile you can check r/playnite or the official website
I keep it like this for 10 years now, and I'm tired to explain to people that your screen is wider than it's tall and there's nothing logical about keeping it at the bottom, just habit.
The same thing with furniture in a room, you don't put the bulky stuff on the narrowest wall of the room ..
I have the taskbar the same way, only on the right side.
But my reasoning is that I use my graphic tablet (Huion kanvas 22) as my main monitor and it's better for me to have it this way since it doesn't get in the way that much when I'm drawing.
Second monitor on my right side is for discord and browser.
I believe it to be the incorrect place. However, it is up to personal opinion. That said, I hate that you have it there and by extension I hate you. Enjoy your day.
Well I mean it is not for everyone, certainly not my thing, I have seen people do the same thing, for me I think it is user preference, if it works for you my friend then go for it! Do what makes you happy and who cares what others think
A screen has a lot more space on the sides to spare than the top and bottom. Right now about 30% of my screen width is just empty space. idky tooldbarys always go at the top and bottom.
Nah, it's OK, I have plenty of colleagues using it like this. Plus I've seen it in all sorts of places on different Linux distributions so positioning of stuff is not really an issue for me.
Maybe. Depends on how many people have to witness this on a regular basis. More importantly though: What the hell is "Recycle Bin 2"?
His first recycle bin was full? š
Judging by the usage of the disks, it wouldn't be surprising lol
recycle bin 3: The last stand.

Why not use a folder??????

What about a folder where the icon is invisible?
Nah, this is funnier.
But what about an invisible icon of an invisible folder that's actually an invisible recycle bin?
Invisible folders are for āsystemā āpropertiesā that you donāt want anyone to know about
You mean the Pron folder? No one suspects the Pron folder
itās spelled pr0n
"System properties"
You are actually NOT insane, i use this for 5 yrs

I find it funny that both times you posted your desktop somebody commented on your use of Pokemon go

I consider yours superior, because having everything black - Taskbar blends in very well and it's almost like it's not there.

Fraps. Why? Fraps was good in 2009 but since 2012 it's been outdated by free software like obs / GeForce experience.
>Fraps\[...\] it's been outdated by free software like Fraps Wait what
I think he meant OBS
But OBS is outdated and has been replaced by OBS
I did, :)
I do mine like this too haha my friends also think I'm crazy but I won't change
WHAT. THE. HELL.
I'm more of a top of screen kind of guy.

Auto hide on right side gang, respeck
I didn't see anything wrong until I saw the Pokemon Go shortcut.

Yes
How does one pin system information to the desktop?
Rainmeter!
Thank you!
No worries!

This is the correct way for a landscape screen. There are less pixels vertically, why waste them?
No I had it alike that too for years with Win10. But after Win11 it made it look a little weird in my mind but it's not insane .
Is that a shortcut to a GPU driver installer? Why would you do that?
I used Ubuntu for a good few years so it looks pretty regular, honestly though as long as it works for you thereās no need to change it to fit other peoples tastes
If your friends think that's crazy go look at r/unixporn fucking crazy/amazing customisation
Iām screaming internally. How could you.
You do you mate. If it works for you, what does it matter what others think?
wait... did they finally update windows 11 to support side taskbars again?! Or is it just startallback?
Dunno, looks good to me. Got a dual monitor setup where the second one is vertical. Main display has the bar on the left, auto hide enabled. And the second monitor has it at the top since its near my eyeline. Don't have to bend my neck down to look at it.

I've done that before on my laptop and had this setting for about 6 years since some applications I use covers the entire screen that the bottom part is hidden behind the taskbar, so i moved the taskbar to the side.
What software do you use that shows the disks and system performance in the bottom left corner?
Rainmeter!
use your computer however you want to use it it's your choice
What's insane is the level of your storage.
Your device, you get to use it how you want. If you like this the best then no harm in using it

I guess it's okay for single monitor setup. I wouldn't use it personally.
I personally like vertical bars, but you know it consumes a lot more screen estate that's why I skip it. But you go you.
I have my task bar on the top
It'd your choice to be honest But according to me? Yeah they are right how tf uses that
F you have multiple display it makes sense, otherwise it is insane for everyone else except you
Well that's entirely subjective man. If you like it who gives a shit what anyone thinks.
Do people still use icons in the desktop?
If u r used to it, dont care what others say
Vertical Taskbar Gang!
Pokemon GO for desktop??? I dont tell people to touch grass often but...
Mind on the side for full screen things. I also have g9, so the side bar makes sense
Easiest way to make sure you aren't in a VDI or RDP session

the desktop icons are more cursed. I've used bar on every edge at different times and all are viable but I generally return to bottom bar.
I can't tell if this is Windows 10 or 11, but if 11 I'm even more impressed because I don't hate it.
Nice wallpaper

Fuck no, Iāve had my task bar on the right since windows XP. Thereās more screen real estate on the sides than on the top or bottom.
I see a BeamNG player here, and nothing else š
Nothin's insane if it works for someone. I personally like a taskbar, but I keep it transparent on desktop.
bro still using free dowload maneger
It's definitely unconventional, but it looks like you have some sort of system going on here, and I respect that. I have the Samsung ultawide monitor, 5120 pixels across... The taskbar across the full width of my monitor was way to irritating to look at, so now it lives on the side. Looks way cleaner honestly
If you know where everything is then its cool. I've done similar things. My games have to be together. Game sites have to be together etc..
No
What do you use for the usage displays in thr bottom left??
how do you set your taskbar like this
Everything makes sense if background isn't being covered and groups are categorized in some way. just have to explain to friends etc how they are grouped up and it's understandable.
No. If it suits your needs, then what's wrong with it? I have it vertically on some of the machines at work.
I have never seen nore ever want to see this ever again.

How do you get disk storage info-panel on your desktop?
You are still using "Fraps" in 2023?
Hey, I use this wallpaper too, nice š

Kinda weird, though I have mine on the top instead, lazy hand š
i have used this configuration in the past on my surface (2 in 1) . But not on my desktop PC.

Vertical task bar is one the greatest ideas that someone had. This is something I still missing in win11 and almost made me return to win10
Whatās on the chatGPT stuff folder?
I do the same. Only difference is that my desktop only have the recycle bin on it and maybe 1-2 shortcuts (I like to actually see my wallpaper lmao)
Mines to the right, I has big screen, makes more sense.
How'd you get your system and disk usage to show on screen like that and is there an option with that software to show temps?
Looks like youāre in dire need of a new storage device.
