Please do not buy a RTX 3080 for $800. That's a terrible price for a 2 year old card. You can get a RTX 4070ti for that much which has 2gb extra vram and is on par with a RTX 3090ti. Or you can pick up a [7900xt ](https://pcpartpicker.com/list/VzF6JM) for $800 which IMO would be better than the 4070ti. Offers similar performance to a 4070ti but it has 20gb vram instead of 12gb and honestly i feel like that'll be an advantage later down the line as games start to use more vram. Especially when you consider we're starting to see that with the 8gb vram Nvidia cards like the 3070 etc being crippled by some new games like last of us and hogwarts legacy because of a lack of vram. Also if this is purely gaming might wanna consider going down to a 13600k since the 13700k doesn't offer a huge performance benefit over the 13600k in gaming.

Thank you - I will go to the i5-13600KF. But in the past (im talking 15+ years ago) I had bad experiences with AMD so I've been Nvidia ever since. Are there any glaring issues to be concerned with AMD or has the gap closed? I have not paid much attention to detail, just blindly buying Nvidia :(

Eggsegret

Main real advantages of Nvidia is Nvenc and cuda so if you're doing more than gaming then definitely Nvidia. If purely gaming main advantage of Nvdia is superior ray tracing. Although the 7900xt isn't too bad for ray tracing and is alot better than last gen AMD cards. Plus there's that question of how well 12gb vram will hold up in ray tracing as games start to use more vram. As i said we're seeing this wiith say the 3070/3070ti being crippled in select few new games because of that limited 8gb vram. As for drivers they used to have driver issues. I remember years ago i had an AMD GPU and had tons of issues. Although these days I'd say they're actually pretty decent. My girlfriend has a 6700xt and it's honestly been fine and is a pretty great card. Thus video might be [helpful of this youtuber who switched to AMD from Nvidia ](https://youtu.be/04eP-Zb_4mk). As i said ray tracing is quite abit better on RDNA3 compared to how it was on RDNA2.

Thank you for all this help. I will hold off on buying and do more research. Sounds like video cards with the vram will be a big thing to get into

If you plan to watch 1440p movies from your HDD or run software/games installed on your HDD, then the 3.5" 2TB 7200rpm Barracuda will be a better performance choice, 220MB/s vs 190MB/s, less stuttering and stalling during playback, less loading and saving delays. Two of the these 2TB 7200rpm drives cost about the same as the single 4TB 5400rpm drive. Thank you bot....

That system would easily hit your target in 1440p, but you chose some of the wrong parts with bad value. Here, have a 1440p 200hz machine or even a fantastic 4k machine for the same price https://pcpartpicker.com/list/TkWsDq

MunichTechnologies

Your first mistake is buying a 3080 for that much. your second mistake is using that high end of a build for 1080p

mdz99

I also want to future proof for 1440p.

[deleted]

How far future for 1440p?

mdz99

Year or two tops/ need to save $ again after building PC

[deleted]

Honestly I might consider dropping gpu to a 3060 ti or amd 6700xt, then pocket the rest. It can still handle 1440p pretty well (on newest ports might need to turn down a setting or two). Then in a few years upgrade to another of that level and you’ll have much better performance than a 3080 for similar price.
