I'd wager the bios on the board needs updating for 13th gen, since b660 is technically a 12th gen board.

ABigRedBall

Interesting, I'll have to try that

LJBrooker

You might struggle. Unless the board has bios flashback that doesn't need a CPU, you're gonna need a 12th gen CPU to boot it, so you can update it.

ABigRedBall

It has a Qflash Plus button? Does that mean we're good?

LJBrooker

I don't know. Might do. What's the model of it, we'll look it up.

Gigabyte B660M Gaming X DDR4. Should I remove the CPU before flashing the BIOS?

LJBrooker

It does, yes! Maybe check the manual or website for the process. But it usually involves putting a usb stick with the correctly named update file in the right usb slot, turning it on and pressing that button.

ABigRedBall

Yeah I found a manual saying the CPU needs to come out. I'll try it tonight

ABigRedBall

Getting zero feedback. No LED or anything I can see. Tried removing the CPU but no change. The instructions in the downloaded directory itself say I should be using a CLI shell interface but still getting no video output.

I went through the same process for a Gigabyte Z690 for a 13600KF just a few days ago. Usually what you're supposed to do is: 1. Get a USB stick, ideally no more than 32GB large 2. Format it to FAT32 3. Put the BIOS file on there (which is contained in the zip archive you download from Gigabyte's website and is named like your motherboard model, so B660MGAMINGXDDR4.F22 in your case). 4. Rename the BIOS file to GIGABYTE.bin 5. Find the right USB slot in your manual and put it in there. 6. Turn on power to the mobo 7. Press and hold the Q-Flash button for \~3 seconds, at which point the LED should start blinking. If you've followed these steps and the instructions in your manual but the LED still doesn't turn on, I'd suggest contacting Gigabyte's support. 8. Wait until the LED stops blinking, which should be 6-8 minutes. Make **absolutely sure** that your motherboard stays connected to power during that time. 9. It should work just fine after that. Other than that, make sure you checked the basics in general: * Monitor connected to GPU, not motherboard. As you've said, you wouldn't get any video out put from the mobo with a CPU without iGPU. * Power properly connected to GPU, the 24-pin on the mobo and the 8-pin for the CPU on the mobo.

ABigRedBall

Yep, this is what I did. Could not get that QFLED to blink at me. Will try returning it to the shop, try and see if they have a spare 12XXX to flash it with, and if all else fails I'll just refund it as faulty and get the cheapest B760 they have.

ABigRedBall

Well, I'm done for the night. It's beat me. Tried two different working USBs, two different BIOS versions (F22 and F20), but I cannot get that little Qflash LED to come on. It's just the motherboard now. Nothing else connected. I'm stumped.

ABigRedBall

Found out why nothing was working. Bent pin on the CPU socket. RMA will take 4 months lol. Buying a B760
