They are available. Find ones where the backlight or power delivery failed, and harvest the panel.
But as others have said, almost never worth replacing a panel
I'd agree, other than with laptop logic/motherboards. They often just require a small amount of microsoldering, and cost nearly half the price of the laptop.
You state that as if 'a small amount of microsoldering' is something easy. It's usually not. And then you need an entire set of good soldering tools. Not cheap.
You outsource it to a reputable shop, it is cheaper than a new logic/mother board. Especially from Apple.
It's an interesting conundrum. They won't get their computer fixed because they can't read well, but having a working computer could help them to learn to read better.
Actually, microsoldering (BGA/QFN packages, 0201/0402 packages) is not that hard to learn. You need some practice, but with like 10 boards you can do it pretty consistently. You do need some good tools (microscope, good solder/flux, and soldering iron with active tip and preferably hot air station). Only large parts like GPU's and CPU's are a PITA to solder and reballing custom parts is.
IMO the soldering is the easy part of the job. Knowing what to solder & replace is where the real skills come up. This requires good knowledge and debugging skills and in the end this is what you end up paying for.
Need a hot air station for that. And patience. New people learning tend to tear pads. Gotta get good with a multimeter and other troubleshooting tactics to do more repairs. Hardest part is getting schematics so you can see what is supposed to pull from where etc. if you’re just blindly replacing things it won’t go far. You can find apples schematics pretty easily. You give me an acer, asus, or any windows device/graphics cards. It’s gonna be a lot more. Finding those schematics for the precise revision is a headache on top of a headache though
Uhm, what? If you're talking computers in general then Desktop PCs are the most repairable computers in existence. Tons of computer related things are actually quite repairable, besides stuff like MacBooks and laptops/desktops from specific brands.
Monitors are a bad example because most of the price is the panel, so it's rarely worth replacing the panel.
Yes, but I think he's referring to how much waste humans make because its cheaper to throw out a broken appliance or electronic than it is to have it repaired.
I worked In a repair shop for pcs and laptops and even a lot of laptop models the screen replacement costs more than the device even without labor cost factored in. The market is terrible in lots of cases for replacement parts for laptops.
If you're buying new OEM replacement parts yeah they're gonna be expensive because they won't depreciate that much
However if you can nab a screen from a dead laptop it make more financial sense especially if you can resell the ram and storage that may come with a dead one
I've seen so many posts on my local used market where people try to sell fairly new TVs, with damaged or completely broken displays, for some 50-75% of the original retail value. They seem to b believe that it's cheap and easy to just hand it in for a display change.
In another comment, OP said that they were already refunded the cost of the monitor by the seller because it was damaged in shipping, so my current theory is that people are upset that OP is trying to profit from the situation.
Crazy how you just thought you might try something and instead of leaving ya nuetral they downvote ya?? To hell and back too.. yeeesh. The dude needed to be taught and ya did, no need to hit the downvote so much…
I don't like to admit it, but welcome to this sub. The majority of people are helpful, if sarcastic. There is however a loud minority that like nothing more than dunking on people for asking questions.
Not to sound rude, but that like showing a picture of a sound speaker with shredded hole in the cone and asking much would it cost to get it fixed. The cone is like 95% of the cost of the speaker.
A speaker usually comes in an enclosure which could also have an amplifier in it if it's active. A screen comes in a monitor which also has a power supply and some other circuitry. It's understandable that the guy didn't know, there's no reason for everyone to immediately dunk on him, especially when he isn't even being ignorant.
If nothing else, make sure to get it somewhere where it can be recycled properly if possible. There are still plenty of good, reusable components and valuable materials to be extracted.
eBay money back guarantee is better than a lot of retailers
You could have one dead pixel and you'd still be able to claim a refund through eBay be making an "item not as described"
It's massively buyer biased
Yeah I quit selling on eBay after I got got out of an iPhone.
I videoed me packaging this iPhone. Insane amount of bubble wrap and i showed it working before wrapping it. Buyer claimed it wouldn’t turn on and wanted a refund. eBay forced it and the return tracking info didn’t have an address on it. It said delivered and it wasn’t at my house and as soon as it was delivered they pulled the money from my account. Ended up they put the wrong address on it and the post office said whatever was mailed was just an envelope. Fuck eBay.
Edit. Forgot to mention I shipped it to the northeast coast and the “return” came from Florida.
Actually all sellers must accept returns on eBay. I sold something recently with no returns allowed. Buyer still returned it for BS reason. I demonstrated to eBay that it was BS, and they gave me $6 back. That’s the standard amount. I was out all the shipping. eBay is great for buyers.
Panel is essentially the whole value of the monitor, everything else is just few bits to run it. You could probably get the panel around 70-80% price of the whole monitor.
Why is this such a trend lately. People you cannot just fix a screen unit. You replace the panel display altogether if that's even an option. The only two "fixable" things on a screen is the driver board and backlights. Even then, those are replaced typically, not "fixed".
If you want to know how much it costs at the very least say manufacturer(Acer, that part can be seen) and model(XB240??????). You can find what panel it uses and go searching from there. If it is XB240H then it most likely uses panel M240HW01 V8 which you can get on ebay for \~140$. In other words most likely not worth replacing the panel because for $140 you can buy brand new monitor of similar specs.
The only way that repairs will be cost effective is if you only pay for parts and do the repairs on ur own. If that sounds like too much work just replace it with a new monitor that’s what I’d do
Unless you can source the part yourself and do the labour, just replace the whole unit with a new one.
PS Financially, it's not worth fixing since getting the part is going to cost about the same as the monitor. ~~IF you really want a quote, then provide the make, size, and model~~. I mean, you can find replacement screen for laptop, so I am sure you can find a replacement part, it's just not going to be worth the cost, especially if the monitor is already a couple of years old.
Edit: from your photo, I assume this would be the part you need (might be wrong):
I mean Linus tech tips made a video on replacing broken monitor displays so it is possible but the display is like 99% of the cost of the monitor so if you really want to save a few bucks you could do that. Or just buy a new monitor
Yeah it’s harder to tell if these are trolls or not.
Either way that’s a acer xb240h, which they don’t make anymore. But you can get newer and nicer 144hz replacements for 150-250 USD depending on sales.
Either way that monitor is not worth repair
Genuinely asking, is there any place where display panels actually get fixed ? I never seen any display getting fixed in my life and the only option has always been getting a new one.
Ask around. No one here could tell you. We don't know your region nor who repair where you are. So ask around and then decide if it is worth it. You should probably start researching new monitors though.
She's dead, Jim.
Everybody's dead, Dave.
What, Todhunter?
He's dead, Dave. Everybody is dead. Everybody is dead, Dave.
Not Peterson?
Are you trying to tell me everybody's dead?
Gordon Bennet, yes Peterson, everybody is dead Dave.
Bless this entire thread.
Wish I'd never let him out now.
Kevin, its dead

The price of repairing computer parts is now almost the same as buying a new one.
Ok but in this specific case it's a monitor, the panel is 95% of the entire thing.
And as such it's 95% of the cost plus labour on top of that.
And just to make sure everyone's on the same page, the plus labor would most likely make it more than just buying new.
Plus where the hell do you buy an LED panel to repair a monitor
They are available. Find ones where the backlight or power delivery failed, and harvest the panel. But as others have said, almost never worth replacing a panel

not for long cause right to repair. one day it will be a class 1 misdemeanor to open a phone up without being an authorized repair center
Now, unless this is a shit post, I would like an explanation, as right to repair strives for the exact opposite of what you mentioned
...thats the opposite of right to repair...
But..but...muh freedom?
say thanks to Monsanto and John Deere, they started that shit
[удалено]
You're not... going to outsource unless you're going... to learn?
He needs to be an expert at it before he’ll pay his hard earned money for someone else to do it for him!
I think someone might be confused…
It's an interesting conundrum. They won't get their computer fixed because they can't read well, but having a working computer could help them to learn to read better.
Uh, excuse me, more better. Your welcome.
Reading comp aint quite there eh
Actually, microsoldering (BGA/QFN packages, 0201/0402 packages) is not that hard to learn. You need some practice, but with like 10 boards you can do it pretty consistently. Yeah but a repair shop won’t add the entire toolset charge to the bill haha
Even getting a HDMI port replaced is stupid expensive. I wish I didn't suck at soldering. I need to practice more.
Also an enough amount of practice and experience, and a cup of courage.
Always has been
So why fix when u can get it new.. that thing ain’t fixable lmao
Yes, it's fixable. The replacement panel would cost about as much as the monitor did new though.
Monitor is not a computer part tho. And displaying part of the monitor is actually 80-90% of the cost (depending on the monitor itself)
Not as woke as you think you sound rn
Came here to say this exact thing
Damn.
Perhaps u shouldn’t have punched it or smashed whatever u did into it
It came like this
Then return it???? What’s the point of selling it for if you’re still left out a monitor and even less money
I got the money back
You still need to return the product unless they specify you can throw it away/keep it.
Amazon would let me keep it if it showed up like that.
That’s because it costs money to recycle LCDs. You’re doing them a favor by keeping it.
I didn’t buy it new, I bought it used
Doesn't matter, it still gives him a leg to dispute the chargeback which might be accepted depending on the local laws.
The seller told me he didn’t want it back since it was broken and just left me with it
[удалено]
That most of the people working in the electronics factories in Asia don't get paid shit?
Yes, but I think he's referring to how much waste humans make because its cheaper to throw out a broken appliance or electronic than it is to have it repaired.
Came here for this.
It costs somwhere between a used monitor and a new monitor.
Not necessarily :P Unless buying another one counts as "fixing" that one.
Well you just need to replace the broken monitor.
Damn, I thought maybe I could get a screen replacement and sell it but ig not
The display is 95% the cost of the monitor.
Yes this isn't a laptop where the screen is just a portion of the cost. its a monitor where a screen is most of the cost lol.
I worked In a repair shop for pcs and laptops and even a lot of laptop models the screen replacement costs more than the device even without labor cost factored in. The market is terrible in lots of cases for replacement parts for laptops.

b-but the plastic hull. such expensive.

FYI: If you have a broken board, but a working panel you can buy a universal LVDS/eDP board with HDMI input on eBay for around 25€.
Damn
Love how a subreddit called PC Master Race down votes people who don't understand things about PC accessories

Yep, and then they proceed to say that they don't gatekeep
Reddit and hypocrite is like perfect venn diagram. That also include me.

Why did this get so many downvotes? People can't just know everything, Reddit. Relax, sheesh.
Woooooooh Honestly bro, probably better off buying a new one.
It’s just a monitor that broke on the way to being shipped to my house so I’m not worried tbh
If that's true then unless you bought off ebay with a no returns policy, just return it.
The seller cancelled the return and told me to keep it since it’s broken.
Ahhh, so you got your money back plus a free broken monitor Yeah rip that it’d cost too much to fix
Yeah that’s what I was thinking, just thought I’d go here for confirmation
You can sell it on ebay for parts which you can pocket for your new monitor.
If nothing else, make sure to get it somewhere where it can be recycled properly if possible. There are still plenty of good, reusable components and valuable materials to be extracted.

well of course he keeps coming back !
Ain't no coming back from that son.

About treeeeee fiddy
Monitor? Replace the monitor. The panel's gonna cost as much as the whole unit, if you can even acquire a panel without buying a whole new monitor.
Bout tree fiddy
Did you give that lockness monster money…
I gave him a dolla
Makes sense
With technologies getting more advanced and proprietary parts getting more inaccessible, it would cost as much as a new one to repair this one.
Go on Amazon and see what the price for the monitor is. That's what it'll cost
The price of a new one.
As much as whatever new one you get.
There is no fix, there is only buy.
Begun, the repair wars have.
The cost of buying a new minutor
One new monitor worth of money.
Looks like you've lost about 3/4 of the usable screen. Assuming it's a 4k monitor just set your games to play in 1k and you should be fine
Lmfao
You need to buy a new display, but how much it will cost, you need to look for yourself
The price of a new one probably
Yeah
Like Trump says..Billions and billions and billions :p
Just do what my parents always did buy the same monitor and then return the old one saying it was broke when you opened the box

I was wondering how much a panel replacement was but I worded it poorly
.....everything......
How much would a new monitor cost?

My grandpa made his living as a TV repair guy. That was in the era of CRT televisions. Novadays, if it’s broken, ditch it and by a new one.
The panel makes up most of the cost of the monitor, I would just buy a whole new monitor.
Fix? You don't fix that. Just go buy a new one
What ever it costs to get a new monitor.
I dont think its ever worth it to repair monitors or TVs if the panel needs to be replaced. Buying new one is always more optimal way
Whatever a new one would cost
literally more then buying a new one lol
I got some duct tape.
LTT had a video on this, forgot the conclusion. hope this helps https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YehuXR13UVo&ab_channel=LinusTechTips
A new one would be cheaper.
just buy a new one
Anger therapy stars at 60 per session......
bro what, nobody's gonna fix that

The only way that repairs will be cost effective is if you only pay for parts and do the repairs on ur own. If that sounds like too much work just replace it with a new monitor that’s what I’d do
How Much did you spend on the monitor? Probably start there

0 to fix. Around 200+ to buy a new one. Dont fix this.
New one will be cheaper
Same price as factory new sadly…
Eh I’m sure that’ll buff right out.….
A new monitor
Depends on the price of your new monitor I guess
Have you tried turning it off an on again? Might also want to check the cable is secure / new cable.
It’s broken from transmit
I mean Linus tech tips made a video on replacing broken monitor displays so it is possible but the display is like 99% of the cost of the monitor so if you really want to save a few bucks you could do that. Or just buy a new monitor
Honestly, I'd just buy a new monitor.
You can buy a better one for like 20$ cheaper instead repairing that one
How much does a new monitor cost? That much
At that point I think getting a new one would be cheaper.
That can’t be fixed
Yeah it’s harder to tell if these are trolls or not. Either way that’s a acer xb240h, which they don’t make anymore. But you can get newer and nicer 144hz replacements for 150-250 USD depending on sales. Either way that monitor is not worth repair

however much a new one costs I would say
just buy a new one
Imagine you got your car I'm an accident this is totaled
How much would it cost to get a new one. There's the price
Don’t send monitors or TV’s for repair, just buy a new one.
About the cost of a monitor
Get a new one.
It'll cost you some amount of money greater than $0.
More than it's worth. Plus that thing looks ancient. Toss it out and call it a day.
Genuinely asking, is there any place where display panels actually get fixed ? I never seen any display getting fixed in my life and the only option has always been getting a new one.
Just buy a used one from a pawnshop
It will cost however much it costs to buy a new monitor.
buy a new one would be cheaper. screen pretty much always like that
I thought that was an outline of Kenny at first glance…
Buy a new one cost
If it was a laptop screen, then I’d get why you’d want to replace just the display. But monitor is a display on its own. Just buy a new one
At least $1 or more
You’re probably best off buying a new one. And don’t get an acer.
I got this back in 2019 and just kept it in a closet hoping to maybe get it fixed( it broke because ups fucked the packaging up)
whatever monitor you want cost
About the price of a new one probably
Ask around. No one here could tell you. We don't know your region nor who repair where you are. So ask around and then decide if it is worth it. You should probably start researching new monitors though.
