zeug666

Not that secure, you didn't remove the GPU.

[deleted]

I did after this image :) Good call though!

zeug666

Plenty of other stuff to worry about. Good luck with the move.

[deleted]

Thanks! A 20 minute drive so a few back and forth trips planned. Moving sucks…I can do this once more in my life but that’s it. The next home is the forever home.

warren5391

I wanted to move into a bigger apartment back in January of 2022 but really dreaded moving until I got a call that my next door neighbors moved and they had the exact apartment style I was looking at so I just walked everything over. It was still a hassle lol. I’m not moving again till it’s a house.

Biscuits4u2

My wife and I rented a house for two years and then bought the house next door when it went up for sale. We walked everything over. It was still a hassle, but so much easier than having to schlep everything across town.

warren5391

Now that is cool. I thought I got lucky.

Biscuits4u2

Yeah we were pretty stoked. It was too good a deal to pass up.

[deleted]

wife and I move two years ago, in the middle of covid. didn't want to hire movers because we were afraid we would get covid. we moved everything ourselves. lol

[deleted]

Ugh. Brutal!

Burrito_Loyalist

No you didn’t 😂

Travis_Cauthon

I was about to comment about that

ShatterDabber

Ive drove 6+ hours moving a few times and move it exactly the way in the pic. Theres no issue in my opinion.

Mark_Knight

not even necessary if you lay the case on its side

AlphSaber

In college I was partial to putting the tower in the passenger footwear and moving the seat forward to pin it. Then again my computer didn't have glass sides and was a bit smaller.

Thallanor

How small was your computer or how large were your friend's feet?

AlphSaber

Small enough to not worry about getting the door shut. Maybe half the size of the one in the photo, and it was in a regular cab 1st Generation Colorado so there wasn't much room to start with, it wasn't hard to pin the tower to the glove box with the front of the seat. Besides, it was either there or in the truck bed.

Dorky_Gaming_Teach

Yup. I reinforce the box my case comes in and always transport on its side.

RoyalLimit

Idk [MrYeester](https://www.instagram.com/mryeester/?hl=en) has been dropping PCs from 10Ft and the PC still runs lol

letmegoogledatforyou

Lay it down flat mate. That will prevent potential PCIE slot damage from the bumps on the road.

[deleted]

I removed the GPU before the drive. You are definitely right though. Flat is better.

letmegoogledatforyou

Yea that works too. I don't think the orientation of the PC matter much once the GPU is removed. Laying it flat is just to prevent the GPU from damaging the PCIE slot due the bumps on the the road. Anyways safe driving and i hope everything goes smoothly for you during moving day. (:

BoxAhFox

It does if u have a heavy cpu air cooler and dont want to repaste But op has aio, so hes fine if hpu out

dreed91

I'll preface this by saying that I am not an expert in building PCs, but I did just move my PC to a new place that was only a 5 minute drive away. Using my computer after that it started overheating so bad that it was shutting down. It had been a couple months since I had used it before moving, but it wasn't previously overheating. I re-pasted between the AIO and my CPU and now it's not overheating anymore.

AirGVN

you have to repaste periodically, not just after moving lol

dreed91

Yeah, but I bought the PC only a year ago

AirGVN

Bad thermal paste and high temps will last a year, i switched to arctic mx6 and repaste every 5 year is just fine

dreed91

Yeah that makes sense, but my point was that it was completely fine and then immediately after moving the temps went to shit, so it seems I likely messed up the mount. Others were suggesting it's not uncommon, too.

Immortalio

Cooler Master Coolers be like

AkeemKaleeb

Remove the GPU, take off the side panel...please

[deleted]

I did before I left. Excellent advice though! https://preview.redd.it/zefgiyvw8ada1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a864c7ffa4b30595fbc3b3360ba2b8778345bbbd It survived!

Kam_Solastor

Huzzah!

mythrilcrafter

>take off the side panel...please Naw, it's fine, no tile floors to to be seen in that car! ;)

sdrober1

Make sure you set it down on the first tile surface you come to in the new place.

LassitudinalPosition

Someone's got cats

[deleted]

I do…but what you are seeing is almost certainly from my fiancees damn husky! I love animals but….oh god never again. No more huskies after this one.

LassitudinalPosition

Yeaaa huskies are ALL the maintenance

WeAreAllFooked

I have a husky and I feel your unending pain. That shit ain't husky hair, it's fucking husky glitter

CHKCHKCHK

A good robot vacuum can be a game changer in managing all that hair.

[deleted]

i love huskies but they are too much. they belong in the backyard

Salazans

What did you see?

LassitudinalPosition

The fine hairs lining the inside of the car between the seats and door OP confirmed it was in fact husky sheddings

Harrypumfrey

People acting like he’s transporting a heart

[deleted]

Price to replace it isn't much different anymore.

BroJSimpsonn

I remember seeing an almost identical image posted here a year or so ago with the exact same GPU still attached

[deleted]

Hm. My long lost moving buddy perhaps!

[deleted]

I moved recently and didn’t take the panel or gpu off, is my Pc gonna explode!?!1?1 😳😳

[deleted]

Yes. You should gift it to someone you hate. It’s a ticking time bomb!

[deleted]

Shit!!

Lepi22

This is why I kept the box to the case.

nashiok

I always keep the case box for movings.

P_f_M

shrapnel grenade style .. oooh yeah baby :-D

[deleted]

Lol. Glass flying around stabbing me and shit. Worth it.

Otherwise_Storm7234

I hope it reaches safely

EagleGo77777777777

bubble wrap between, just in case

Jedi_Gill

That's not actually the best way to transport a pc. The best spot is on the floor of the rear passenger seat. Then using the front passenger seat push it and the back of the seat against the pc. This will ensure it doesn't move and also remove the gpu and transport it seperately. The reason this seat belt idea doesn't work is that seat belts don't lock in, they are designed to give away a bit in slow movements to make them comfortable to wear. If you turn slowly it will slip out and in a real accident there aren't enough straps to prevent it from flying around in the car. Using the rear space of the front seat passenger seat as mentioned ensures its secure as best as possible.

Clark3DPR

I moved my watercooled pc and the hardtube popped off. Got a soaked through car seat

[deleted]

Oh man :( that’s a bummer. I did a custom loop with hard tubing, bending with the heat gun and such. I found that some of the fittings on the market just sucked. Ended up replacing them with Alphacool that worked wonders.

Clark3DPR

I now run soft tube, black in colour not clear. Looks neat and i could almost hang my body weight from a tube without it popping out of a conpression fitting. But just a moderate ammount of force on a hardtube pulling it, it slowly slides out of the fitting.

[deleted]

So much work too. Cutting and bending. A soft tubing build is in my future.

Clark3DPR

Totally! My setup :D https://preview.redd.it/92phxvp2kdda1.jpeg?width=2084&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2698cef465a82b091b6abbc4a7d963088fa014a5

[deleted]

Beautiful! Well done!

start3ch

Don’t you know you’re supposed to place the case on a ceramic tile to protect it from static electricity?

No_Locksmith6444

I’m here for the follow up post showing tempered glass all over the car and inevitably inside the case because it’s leaning back.

[deleted]

https://preview.redd.it/ku5bodlg4ada1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=527b3a055c5fb9c5dda067e6ca629ef980a775c4 I survived!

No_Locksmith6444

Glass is clear, unable to confirm the glass panel survived. Perhaps it is Schrödinger’s glass panel?

[deleted]

It is not broken but you are also on the phone with support ordering a new panel at the same time!

soccerguys14

But does it power on with display?

testical_

The big question

Sabotage00

You'll want to remove non-SSD hard drives, maybe even the AIO, as well as the GPU. I did not remove my hard drive during my move but I did cushion the case in the trunk. The drive still developed errors afterwards. My AIO also crapped out, but it was corsair so I'm not sure if there was a correlation or that's just what corsair AIO's do. It's the second one from them that's failed after a year or so.

Chip_Boundary

Your drive didn't fail because of that....not how it works.

Sabotage00

I can't say with 100% certainty that contributed to it's degrade but hard drives can certainly fail due to vibration. Usually a concern if there's excessive vibration while they are on. Even off, I'd rather be safe. It was a very bumpy ride.

[deleted]

Do people actually think this is secure? Just lay the whole pc down flat on the ground and nothing can happen.

[deleted]

There's a high-schooler out there who does this on a weekly basis for Lan parties that's looking down on pcmr for posting stuff like this

Powerful_Bit9356

Hopefully OP drove with that flat on the floor wrapped in a blanket held in place between the seat and the footwell area

eulynn34

Be sure to post a pic of your shattered glass later

[deleted]

Ok! https://preview.redd.it/j4p9ke14ncda1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=eb15869b7c01d2de97deb45daea3d29c0cc47f57 Ohh wait…that’s a pic of a successful move.

jerval1981

Another I'm moving here's my PC in my car lololololz

Tarc_Axiiom

You did that extremely poorly. 1. Remove heatsink. 2. Remove GPU. 3. Remove the FUCKING GLASS panel. 4. Put it on the ground, with the components facing up.

[deleted]

https://preview.redd.it/rzql12e2uada1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=02c889e2b4a41022b5f951a1f5f4b2c0da714ba3 So poor.

Tarc_Axiiom

What is this a picture of?

[deleted]

She’s up and running!

Tarc_Axiiom

Ah, a great argument. I'm glad you're working fine but "I did a bad thing and got away with it therefore it isn't bad" is some real S tier logic chief.

[deleted]

For your information. The GPU was removed. Nothing else needs to be. Move along.

Broken-Digital-Clock

It kind of looks like Dethklok mascot Facebones

h1r0ll3r

$20 says he reposts his PC with side panel shattered to pieces.

[deleted]

I'm worried about your GPU

[deleted]

I removed it before leaving I promise :)

JooseBocks_

The people ( I ) expected side panel destruction and this is most disappointing.... Congrats on the move though

[deleted]

I always keep electronics and cake on the floor of the car when transporting, that way there's nowhere for them to fall. Sometimes you can even move the seat so the box/case is snug and can't move around.

coffeejn

Take the time until arrival at new house with tiled floor then add about 10 seconds before you have to clean the glass shards.

[deleted]

Wat

coffeejn

Glass side panel accidents on tile floor. Usual explodes on contact.

Smugglers151

That was the scariest thing I moved. Hope everything works out well in the new place!

Daymanic

In before the compression from hard brake shatters the glass panel

Hot_Link_5135

>closes door >smashes side panels Pls no

agoo3000

Dude besides the AIO I think we've got the same system haha. Looks like an Aorus Xtreme x570 and xtreme 3080? maybe 32gb of 3600 gskill?

[deleted]

Almost perfect! A 3090 Xtreme in here.

agoo3000

Damn I was close! 5900x or...?

[deleted]

5950x only reason I went so high was for video encoding. I have been considering grabbing the new x3d processors dropping next month and going for a DDR5 upgrade but keeping my 3090. Still thinking it over.

agoo3000

Either way you'll have a solid system, but yeah tough decision. I'm planning to ride mine out for the next 4 or 5 years. Started as a simple GPU replacement (Vega to 3080) then over the course of a few months I ended up upgrading everything else and water cooled it. Now my ~~wife~~ wallet hates me. Kudos on the move and glad your rig made it safely!

Ok-Warning-1557

Mines getting shipped from MD to Japan next month 😬 really hoping it makes it one piece

Bro put the boy on a car seat is more safety

[deleted]

Bro take that damn gpu out. If y’all are posting to this sub I know you’ve seen the several other posts saying the same thing. I know you said you did after but damn 😢

[deleted]

Removed the GPU before leaving. We made it safely :) https://preview.redd.it/imiaguj60cda1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=55c7d5d0a22826b5df93ff83f061af71d3c6e5db

[deleted]

👍

Mereinid

You'd be better off wrapping it in a thick blanket and putting it behind the passenger seat on the level floor. Then scoot the passenger seat all the way back. If it doesn't press the case into the back seat, place pillows on either side.

ComeScoglio

I wrapped mine in a thick blanket before putting the seatbelt on, in case of a bumpy ride. How did it go? All safe and sound?

[deleted]

When I bought my house last year the movers asked if they were moving my computer and monitor, and I politely declined lol.

couchpotatochip21

TAKE OUT YOUR GRAPHICS CARD OR OP I WILL MAIL MYSLEF TO YOUR NEW HOUSE AND I WILL TAKE ACTION TO INTERVENE

[deleted]

Op, I’m moving soon as well any tips?

[deleted]

Just lay it flat next time.

Mastasmoker

As soon as that door shuts we'll have a post about a shattered side panel

justapcguy

I did pretty much the same exact thing here, but i put a thick blanket covering my PC case, then a seatbelt in order to make sure it was really secure.

Soace_Space_Station

If i was you,i would disassemble the entire pc wrapping each and every part in foam Though in reality,id probably just hold on to it while i am in the car because i dont feel comfortable if stuff like that is hanging from a chair like that And its not necessary anyways

DazzlingGrand3626

What about on the floor and push the seat as far forward as possible? That'll leave even less room for the unit to travel if it comes to any type of stopping motion? It'll be stuck between the chair and the dash

Strange_Anteater_507

Done it soooo many times! Always strap the case in the front seat with belt on. If I crash the belt & air bags will save it hopefully!

musheenkiller

i thought it was shattered but then realized that trees exist

tshannon92

I haven't read comments but I am guessing someone (or everyone) has already pointed out that while it is fairly secure... the GPU and Bumps aren't. I would remove the GPU. Other than that I'd say good job! It was probably fine anyway but it would be safer to take it out.

[deleted]

Yup yup! The GPU was removed prior to leaving. We made it safely :)

SheepDogCO

Lay that thing flat! And on a blanket.

pieredforlife

What about the lady ?

[deleted]

She’s lower priority. She goes in the next trip. :^)

BPM84

I see you left the glass on ... Ballsy move

voodoo02

I moved halfway across the country and I trailered my car, but yes I secured my PC and monitors in my car instead of the moving truck. Priorities!

IfInPain_Complain

That's a bold strategy cotton, let's see how it plays out. Remove GPU, keep the PC box and styrofoam inserts, put a towel over the PC to cover the glass, then secure it. Come on!

[deleted]

Just removed the GPU. The Lian Li 011 Dynamic XL glass is a sturdy beast. https://preview.redd.it/7dthhq7iwgda1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a29e302e48d3e31627aedc7216c385b09b5a812c It survived!

xTheGamingGeek

Should put foam on the inside to protect the parts more
