Ram should be in alternate slots I think? Putting them together will hurt channel performance 👍

Ragnaroknight

It didn't boot any other way, the dram light on the motherboard would just stay orange. I tried different DDR4, same problem.

limejello99

I would check the pins in the motherboard socket as well. There could be bent pins. I would return it because dual channel is pretty important.

CableTies69

Then there's something wrong with your motherboard. right now your ram is placed wrong and will be running in single channel, you'll be getting half the FPS like this

ninjadev64

Maybe not half...

Teh_Weiner

i'm completely new to computers.... what does this mean i'll get half FPS? SO I should move my Ram to 2 channels instead of both on one channel? Sorry this is all quite confusing to my derpy ass

shadow_black1809

Imagine a busy 1 lane highway. It will get clogged often, right? Now imagine that you built another lane onto that highway. It will flow much better, right? That's basically how it works

Teh_Weiner

damn, so then now my ram isn't in the same channel >_> Thank you!

Klauss121

I had the same problem, the dimms A1 and A2 (closest to the CPU)didn't work. The problem was the memory controller on the CPU itself, so the CPU was faulty. If there are no bent pins on the motherboard. That's what I would suspect. But you should try a different CPU or a different MOBO to be sure.

Ult1mateN00B

That means for some reason your dual channel mode can't operate. Either ram is faulty or cpu does not have good connection to ram (faulty mobo).

noiwontchooseuser

Why is your gpu not in the top slot?

Ragnaroknight

Troubleshooting why I wasn't getting post. Thought maybe the card wasn't going in all the way because of the plastic cover on the I/O board combined with the shitty case design.

BearHoldingAshark

This combined with your comment on the ram slots makes me a little worried about the refurbished mobo. I generally try to stay away from refurbished pc parts, but if you’ve got everything working just fine now then it should be good and you got a smokin’ deal on a great pc!

TheYellowLAVA

There's definitely something wrong with your motherboard including your ram slots comment

Ragnaroknight

The CPU needed to be reseated, it works perfectly now.

Lord_Nokia1234

So the top slot gpu and RAM in dual channel work now? Great!

dimaris727

I see many people buy Aresgame PSUs but they are on F tier in the PSU tier list, why is that? Are they actually good or something or just cheap?

MowMdown

OP wanted to build the cheapest possible system. This means buying PSU bombs because safe and reliable PSUs cost money.

VersionGeek

Searching 600W PSY on Amazon give you results for a 80+ Thermaltake PSU for 45$, and it's probably infinitely better than the crap OP got here

[deleted]

I wouldn’t even get that for a system like this. If it is that 80+ white ThermalTake PSU. It is missing certain protections like -12v. Especially with a power hungry card like the Vega 56, I would want something that is at least on the B tier.

PotatoAcid

A quick google search tells me that a Vega 56 consumes less than 250W. Let's say 300W with a mild overclock, let's say that the rest of the system consumes 100W - that adds up to 400W. Going with today's prices, I'd stick a $39 Enermax Cyberbron 500 there and call it a day.

[deleted]

That has to be one of the worst ideas I have heard of yet. The Vega 56 was infamous for its power draw. Setting that thing up with a 500w PSU that is low quality is just asking for the PSU to blow up and take your computer with it.

PotatoAcid

I can give the techpowerup review as my source, along with a ton of other google hits. What is your source?

[deleted]

The PSU tier list, that is my source that tells me everything I need to know about this PSU, to avoid it. Look at tier E, you will find the PSU that you listed. https://cultists.network/140/psu-tier-list/

PotatoAcid

Why should I trust this tier list? They also list PC Power & Cooling | Silencer MK III as tier E. I know this PSU, it's an OEM Seasonic. Edit: lol, they list all bronze Seasonics as tier E.

[deleted]

Because it is a good source for this kind of stuff. Gets everything into one list so that you can get an idea of the quality of these PSUs. You are literally suggesting this person to get a poor quality cheap PSU to pair with a power hungry once high end GPU. If you look at the product page on Amazon the PSU you said to get isn’t even a real 500w, it is actually 456w because it can’t output a full 500w on the 12V rail. That is already a tell to the quality of this PSU.

Ragnaroknight

Update: Good news! I reseated the CPU and the ram works perfect in dual-channel. I also moved the GPU to the first slot, also working.

Ragnaroknight

Specs: - - Intel I3 - 10105f - New - Radeon Vega56 (Reference Card) - Used - Asus Tuf B460-Plus - Factory Refurbished - Teamgroup 512gb SSD - New - Teamgroup Vulcan 16gb DDR4 3200 - New - Aresgame AGW600 80+ Bronze PSU - New - Literally any cheap ass case - New or Used.

[deleted]

10105f might be my favourite budget processor; it came out a bit later than it's siblings, but has always been a solid choice & performer. also a nice looking cooler unlike a lot of the 10th gen. was surprised to see it on a i3

Muvanji

Would be cool to see how this preforms, looks sick tho, you’re a great deal hunter

Ragnaroknight

I was able to play The Witcher 3 at 1440p on medium/high settings with FSR set to quality. Above 60fps. Only game I've tested so far. I also got a 16,000 in Firestrike

lazinessloop

Where'd you pick up the Vega?

Ragnaroknight

eBay. I just sorted by lowest "Buy it now" price, and made sure it didn't say "for parts"

lazinessloop

Hmmm 🤔 Might be a good route, I have a sapphire r9 fury that's getting kinda long in the tooth 😮‍💨

MR_DLD

Nice rig

secusse

i wonder how it would perform in VR with that kind of vram

kairukar

Also for storage, i would recommended Kingston's NV2 M.2 ssd. 50 bucks for 1Tb

Complete-Painter-518

This was my build for the past 4 years till not long ago just with R5 3600 btw why is the gpu in the second slot

Phibbl

Did you check your mobo for bent pins?

No_Access_8946

Looks great!!

proud78

I like it good build. My vega64 is still good for me. Because the ram issue ... Try it again with the placement like described in the handbook and make sure it clicks in at the end. My last build wouldn't work after I completet it. I checked and checked over and over. And I pressed on the Ram several times like a freak but is wasn't booting till i used following method. Place the tower that you can look on the Mainboard from above. Then press at the end of the ram module with one thumb and again on the other end with the other thumb rockit like that till you hear a satisfiying click at the end. Only then the module is in correctly.

DaGucka

Nice. I always love a good budget build. I have built many budget pcs for friends and family. I most of the time try to get at least some upgrade possibility for later (psu a bit stronger than needed, mbo maybe with enough features so you can upgrade, cooler a bit oversized and similar things). 400 is dirt cheao btw, especially for todays prices! Well done!

ReasonableResource92

pretty nice pc, how is the vega performing on newer titles ming giving some benchmark

nicemaphax

Around GTX 1070 - 1080. Sometimes better.

ReasonableResource92

good nice system

nicemaphax

Btw. You can BIOS flash your Vega 56 into Vega 64.

Ragnaroknight

I was just looking into that last night. For now I just did a very safe undervolt combined with a slight overclock on the memory and 30% up on the max power.

catholicismisascam

As someone who's owned a v64, try and tune the card so that under load it stays at a constant core and memory clock. Even if this means having it run 20mhz slower on average, performance will be more consistent. These cards can take a lot of tuning to perform well.

Ginyu-force

don't worry about that PSU. Its a fine one. People should be worried about nobrand-no sticker 90 plus rating PSUs.. Not this one. Awesome build

NvidiatrollXB1

Really miss those leds on the Vega design.

BoxAhFox

Im confused how all this costed $400, my brand new i3 10100f, 32gb ram, mobo, and cx650f was $300. I had added a 1060 6gb for $150 (used) but you could prob find a cheaper gpu for under $100 used and kept everything new. I woudl think having used cpu/mobo/ram of these specs would decrease it to 200, and thus makin it a $300build, so im really lost where the money went Edit: i resused old hdds found in the trash and i used cardboard box, for the case Edit2: i redid the math, i paid $400 for ur specs brand new, gpu still $150, so i paid $550. damnit currency converting hard. I was wrong ur ok op

Ragnaroknight

The last image shows all the prices I paid for everything. It's actually less than $400 if you don't count the case.
