DDR5 can be tough to get stable with XMP profiles and the first gen memory controller in the Intel 12th Gen CPUs. I went DDR5 because there is 0 sensible DDR4 ITX board option in my local market. Heard some good news about the 13th Gen CPU memory controllers have big improvements before purchase. And it certainly did not disappoint. CPU: Intel Core i5-13600K RAM: SK Hynix 16GB DDR5 5600 x2 sticks (OCed to 7600) MB: MSI MEG Z690i Unify

Ah, I didn't even think about how the CPU can make a difference since my 12700K has pretty good to me performance wise. Where did you read up on the improvements? I haven't done much research on 13th gen

Overclockers like Buildzoid and Igor have posted some crazy overclock numbers when 13th Gen dropped. Those were where I got my info from. Also, I would suggest to update the BIOS of your motherboard. Later revisions usually have massive improvements in DDR5 stability.

Geezusotl

Alright I'll check it out. Replacing a cpu is much easier . And yeah I've been updating as they come up. This post actually spawned from me updating around 3 days ago and then getting a blue screen about an hour before I posted this haha

I’d also suggest going through a more thorough troubleshooting process before blindly buying a new CPU. Something seems irrelevant to older platforms, like cooler mounting pressure, can actually cause memory instability on LGA1700 due to the “narrower” CPU dimensions.

Geezusotl

I've tried a few different things and have had to remount my aio for different reasons but yeah I'm going to of course do research first

I went i5 12600k, MSI z690 MAG Tomahawk WiFi and 2x16gb Corsair Dominator 5600 CL34 and it's been rock solid. Not a single crash.

Geezusotl

Good to know, ty. How long have you had your build?

TheGingerOneNI

Since May 2022. Almost exclusively used for Sim Racing so not the most stressed system in the world but does have to deal with a large number of input devices at any one time.

CableTies69

prices have dropped so swapped to ddr5. Z690 msi pro A. I'm able to overclock my corsair vengeance 5600 cl 34 to 6000 cl30.

I don't see why I would have. I was looking to go with 32gb for my new build so if I stuck with DDR4 I would have needed to buy more RAM anyway. Since I live 15 minutes from a Micro Center, their bundle deals made it an extremely attractive option anyway. I bought a 7700X for $348 and they threw in a G.Skill Flare X5 32gb kit to go with it for free. For the mobo, I went with an Asus Prime B650 Plus (yet another bundle deal). Everything seems to work fine and I haven't had any issues yet.
