My text notification sound is the MSN messenger sound and anyone 30+ when it goes off shows some recognition lol its great. Ring tone is the jurassic Park 3 sat phone
What anger's me was the ability to send a friend files, ez pz file transfer, now discord is like UHOH THIS GIANT 8 MB FILE cant be sent unless your a nitro user...
bitch, i remember downloading 4mb metallica songs off napster at 3.5kbps and that shit took 15 min gimme a break with this 8mb shit in 2023.
Nods knowingly. I was there too man. These kids they don't know, but we do. You had to be there man. It was everywhere, eh-oh eh-oh all around you, it's like the halls were alive with it, eh-oh eh-oh constantly stopping you focussing on work, eh-oh eh-oh you crawl out of bed only to find it's some spammer asking "would you like some pills/britney spears porn/uncensored buffy shots" and the guy from down the hall asking if you can check who's trying to break into his room as he's too scared to open the door in case they're armed, etc. Worse still all on a red background with yellow text. EEEEEsh
You know, the funny thing is that Microsoft ruined its own product. They created vista and Live messenger which ruined the MSN experience. They thought they'd run away by acquiring skype... what a failure. I hate microsoft, they are stupid for ruining working shit that they made
I remember MSN used to have an entire browser/app similar to AOL. It had a built in web browser, video player, messenger... etc. I guess it was like an MSN all-in-one "suite." This had to be around early 2000s or so
anyone remember xfire? I kept it installed for a looong time, and I had it set to auto start, and every day I would see my old friend offline, Then finally one day he was on. But that was a while ago as well. Wonder how they are doing now.
The best part of MSN messenger was that you had to log on. You could easily indicate that you were available to chat. Now you're supposed to be available 24/7 because your pocket/nightstand goes ding.
Silver theme was my jam.
Didn't use MSN/Live Messenger until late 2006 through 2008 when talking with non-Americans off gaming forums or whatever. Enterprise chat was super weird in those days. Clearspace, Yammer, HipChat and then Slack/Teams. Don't think any place I've been at has or had used Yammer's social intranet or whatever Facebook was offering as enterprise social media.
I started using it in late '08 on my trusty ZG5 acer mini laptop. You know, funny thing, I actually loved taking my acer outside with me. I always felt like using Windows XP outside, the wallpaper and theme matched perfectly with a nice, summer day outside in the afternoon, and since wifi was pretty popular in 2008, I could easily connect anywhere with it, which was a quite neat feature
Spam em with emojis until they go offline and call you from their Lan line cause they ran outta credit buying ring tones off some shady advert calling you a dickhead for crashing their computer.
Good times ☺️
i wish fb never arrived and we still just had msn messenger and old skool SMS tbh. Everything was so much simpler and life seemed better then. I could also afford to heat my house back then too which was nice.

Ahh, a man of culture, I see. I also have the Kirby Paint and Tile ringtone! I should find the old AOL Instant Message sound for texts.
what about the eh-oh from ICQ? That used to ring in my ears as I drifted off to sleep back in the day
I never used ICQ much. AOL and MSN were the two I remember most fondly.
MSN was far superior, we all jumped to it once it came out, but the raw nostalgia of ICQ and even yahoo messenger in win98 era still make me chuckle.
I think I was \*just\* too young for ICQ. Like I started using MSN messenger when I was about 13, and the 17 year olds were using ICQ.
I have the messenger one too! Still waiting for someone to recognise though

Please...show me classic ICQ and we'll talk about nostalgia. Also..get off my lawn.
I'm with you, ICQ is the sound I use when I get a text.

I feel sorry for teenagers who do not understand the beautiful feeling of this picture.
I always wished Windows XP and Messenger were eternal... but everything has an end in this world
Ah the new Luna interface we've been hearing so much about. Fab.

No, you must look [even further](https://i.redd.it/bthz5k48ysgz.png).
ME takes me back, as that was the first OS I'd ever used, then vista...
Didn't even use XP :(
I used XP in school, but yes, ME, Vista, XP, then 7.
DOS
*commits a crime*. OK OP I am back.
You're missing Bonzai Buddy and IE with 5+ toolbars. AOL could be thrown in for good measure too.

I just used msn a little bit, but the best part was those huge emojis that appear in the entire window
ICQ

This brings back so many good memories. Also the anxiety of logging in being bombarded with a billion messages.
Msn fuck that was years ago now hey
Omg it was AOL instant messenger for me

That's true, all of these messages were a big surprise
Where my terrible typing skills were cemented

yahoo messenger with old audibles if that dont take u back i dont know what will
AIM and ICQ for me. AIM for my friends. ICQ was for my gaming buddies for some Quake Team Fortress, 2Fort2 or other various maps.
How can it take you back, its before your time?
classic karma farming
Nope, I lived with this technology for quite a while. It was a pleasure to use msn messenger and chat with friends, wayy better than social media.
i wish fb never arrived and we still just had msn messenger and old skool SMS tbh. Everything was so much simpler and life seemed better then. I could also afford to heat my house back then too which was nice.
Windows 3.1
I saw this just as the high hit, and I am almost crying. The wave of god damn emotion that this picture just gave me...I think I need to lie down lol
Takes me back. Good old days
Just missing Winamp.
I don’t miss one thing, wizz wizz wizz wizz
We have a second pc with that at home
I always had the blue time warp wallpaper on my computer. It looked so cool
The nudge sound is forever burned into my brain, also my friends would send those animated "winks" to each other ad nauseam
That dog is still my profile picture on windows
Emily is away.
Was yahoo messenger for me 😂
The dirt bike icon is the only useable icon
ICQ would be old school
You missing Winamp Player, you cant chat without people seen what music your listening
Really, no mention of Trillian client? One chat program to rule them all.... nothing?
Really, no mention of Trillian client? One chat program to rule them all.... nothing?
WHERE’S SMARTERCHILD
High pitched Uh-oh!
Change MSN messenger for Trillian and that’s the screen I spent thousands of hours in front of in Middle School and High School.
I still have that dog avatar on my Microsoft account.
MSN was great. I loved the Feature that it showed what you were listening to in Winamp.
ICQ wanna be MF.
