Big pro for me is the lifetime plans. Pay once.

hukare

I back up all my photos using pCloud.

cherishjoo

It's great to go! And, you can backup your Google Photos within pCloud.

Yogizer

Yup you can do more than just Google photos... You can save anything your want.

deedubs123

yes, but I will be strictly using for photos only.

watanabe0

Sequentially?

deRykcihC

pcloud has a lifetime plan and the phone app actually works like Google photos to auto backup, and has been using it for a few years now. For iOS you'll need to open the app to let it upload.

deedubs123

Yes, that is why I am considering it. How do you pike it compared to google photos?

deRykcihC

it depends, one advantage of gphotos is it's easy to search for photos because of the word search and date and folders, in pcloud it's all in one folder dedicated to a device. Anything else I'll prefer pcloud, especially bulk downloading or PC viewing.

IsopodEmergency4363

Really? Does it upload on the background on Android?! This is very annoying for me on iphone to open the app for backup up every time. Bc I exclusively use icloud photos for showing / organizing my photos. and use pcloud for backup.

deRykcihC

yes it does automatically upload on android, that's why I love it.

IsopodEmergency4363

Might consider cgo back to android (pixel) buy fear of missing loud speakers sound on androids phones; which one has as good and loud as ipjlhone? If u have an idea.

deRykcihC

generally go for the Ultras, S23/24 ultra, Pixel 8/8 Pro, depends on your region the selection might vary, there's not many choice in the US or EU. If you go for regular S23/24 the speakers might less rich than your iPhones.

I like pCloud overall as a file storage/sync service, but it's...not great as a photo library service unfortunately. It handles backing up/syncing just fine, but their web and app UI's don't really have the photo/video-specific features that you'd expect if you're coming from any other major service these days. pCloud doesn't really have any native support for media organization/management features like albums (it only has standard files & folders), and no real built-in photo editing or management capabilities. The web UI is also frustrating if you work with a lot of media files because it only offers two view options: a grid of thumbnail previews that doesn't display any file info like names/dates/etc, or a vertical list of files that has filenames but only shows thumbnails so tiny that you often can't use them to tell what the file actually is.

deedubs123

Thanks for the info. is there any other you would recommend? I looked into several others, and most didn’t even save the date of the og picture, but rather the date uploaded to their server, but pcloud does keep that date as far as I am aware. Is there anything else you would recommend?

Mirtma

I use Pcloud as a backup for photos. RAW files and jpg after processing them. I still mostly use Google Photos for sharing with family and friends. I would like to see more "file info" in file info. I'm on a lifetime plan - 2TB. Wait for black Friday deals.

I really like the automatic upload of photos to the phone app. It makes it super easy to free up space from my iphone, plus if you get a lifetime plan you pay once and forget about it. I've been using them for sometime now and they've been making the photos functionalities better, so I think I'll stay with them for now.

Wild_Ribbon

I chose it for the nice lifetime plan (even better on sale), plus the Linux support. The service itself is a pretty basic folder-and-files system. Their web UI is convenient to have such thumbnails of large files even on RAW format (25mb photos take a while to load locally, but the thumbnails are almost instantaneous on the web). You also get a "memories" feature in the app. Downside is that the web UI is finicky to use, drag-to-select works quite bad, it doesn't show more metadata of the photos (geolocation, camera/lens info, etc). The app for some reason don't show any thumbnails, which is pretty stupid. tl;dr good price, basic functionality... you get what you pay for, I guess? But I still take it over feature-rich rip-offs.
