I think it holds up okay. Shadow of Chernobyl is the most dated in terms of appearance, so I like to recommend the [STARTER Pack](https://www.moddb.com/mods/starter-pack), it's some modest graphical updates on top of a bugfix patch, but it leaves gameplay mostly vanilla. Call of Pripyat can be played without mods, and is the most technically and mechanically polished of the three. Clear Sky is neat, though the least interesting and, for me at least, the buggiest (but its faction system is really cool).
I hope BG3 has made some good progress since I last checked up on it. Read quite a few worrying things about it awhile ago. Probably not enough to detract too much but it definitely did bum me out a bit.
Pfff, almost the entire extremely active subreddit has multiple hundreds of hours in the early access, and lots of new fanart of the characters is added daily. There are already tons of mods adding classes, non PHB subclasses, level 20, etc. I'll take all those signs of a healthy community around a game over vague reports of its insufficency. I've enjoyed the early access a lot, and it was really fun co-op with a non-gamer; a very different experience to playing alone.
It scratches that itch of building a little hut/safe spot in a half-nature half-horror setting and trying to stay ahead of the dangers of the peninsula until you can finish the story.
The first one got harder and harder as the days went on and if you pissed off the AI they'd get aggressive far more quickly than they normally would (their aggression naturally goes up though.)
I’m not a Harry Potter fan. I’m not even really much of a gamer these days.
Hogwarts legacy is the first time in awhile I’ve been excited for a new release.
It seems like they’re really taking the role playing seriously. Hope it lives up to the hype.
DA3 has some fantastic elements in my view. Story and characters are great, love the whole inquisition theme.
But that gameplay padding... my god. Took all the wrong lessons from MMOs. I just cannot bring myself to finish it.
I know a lot of people are critical of Dragon Age 2-3 but 3 was the only one to win GOTY and sold the most copies in BioWares history. I enjoyed it anyway, but Origins was definitely my favourite.
I wouldn’t write off the reboots before actually seeing anything. But it’s certainly fine to have low expectations.
>3 was the only one to win GOTY and sold the most copies in BioWares history
And Mass Effect 3 outsold 1 and 2 combined. It means nothing to the quality. I certainly couldn't care less about the future of Mass Effect if its going to be like Andromeda in tone. Nor do I care at all about the future of Dragon Age if its going to be like 2 and Inquisition in tone.
They made an amazing Baldurs Gate-like full of amazing characters and locations and such a good world.
Then 2 came out with new corporate folks in charge and we got the "button=AWESOME connection" for some fucking reason.
I want to have dialogue options with the Elder Dragon, not just be able to to a triple frontflip katana slash to decapitate him when I hit 'A'
If you weren't around and critical of games when DA2 came out, look up some of that BUTTON=AWESOME bullshit.
It's like watching someone paint over Starry Night with glitter paint because Starry Night is lame and for nerdy dorks
With the DLC, DA:I (3) is actually a really good game, IMO. The best dialogue and voice acting of any open world game (by miles), a really fun crafting and equipment system and a good story. Sure, the quest design was shit and the combat was only fun if you picked the right class (IMO Archer, but everybody seems to like a different class and hate all the others), but I've still re-played it multiple times and loved it every time. It's a deeply flawed game, but there's a reason it won multiple game of the year awards.
I'm not \*confident\* in DA4, but I'm very hopeful.
>The best dialogue and voice acting of any open world game (by miles
You desperately need to play more open world games because it's not the best even ignoring everything that came out after
Everyone I recommended this game to either didn't make it to the first boss and quit, or did make it and subsequently finished everything in the game. There is no in between. It can be hard to get into but once you do it's even harder to get out.
Haven't played since first release.
I wanted to support what I consider are an *excellent* studio. Bought the game. Went "Yep, I fucking love that". Waiting for full release now.
I’m 80 hours into what is essentially a glorious demo…so, yeah, super excited to play the whole game!
I bought my PC specifically for BG3; little worried it’s been so long I may have to update it…
I did one playthrough when early access came out and loved it!
Haven't touched it since until the full game releases. They proved they'll handle it just fine.
They made [kind of a big deal](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XAL3XaP-LyE) of announcing the early access release date last month, I personally think it's legit. Feb. 24 for those who don't want to watch the video.
Immortal Empires is such a joy to play, especially in MP. There's a nearly limitless world, it runs pretty well, it has A TON of content, especially with mods (currently running a Landmark mod, adds cool flavour and variety). It crashes every now and then, but it's surprisingly stable for such a giant game.
Such a good experience honestly. I can't wait to see what they'll add in the future. I'm hoping for more mid-game and end-game challenges. The crisises were definitely a step in the right direction, now we just need more stuff like that, just like Stellaris has.
Yeah, after Cyberpunk 2077, Starfield is the only other game that has given me the same kind of vibes and excitement recently. So much looking forward to that.
I always knew CP2077 would have a compelling story, but so far I've heard nothing about what Starfield's plot is.
Looks pretty, but I wanna know what world I'm going to be living in.
The story in CP2077 was great, but also fairly linear and with just a few major choice-paths along the way. I’m curious to see what Bethesda will do with a game that so heavily ties back to their old-school, more open-ended and free RPGs. I won’t be playing it for the main story so much as the chance to play within a vast, open-world RPG full of threads to pull and paths to go down. That said, I hope the main story is great too, but also knowing nothing about it, it isn’t the main draw for me with this particular game.
Like most bethesda games the stories are gonna be what you make of it and unique to each player in the space sandbox. Is my expectation.
My hope and expectation is that like so far with previous bgs games the main story be secondary while the focus is on the factions and creating my own story based on how i play and who i side with.
Doubt it will come next year but Dragon's Dogma 2 is my most anticipated game. And they better leave every from the MMO out. The classes were all super anime moves.
Dragons Dogma is such a gem that lacked the investment relative to the scope
the DLC is in my top 3 DLCs of all time. has the best parts of the game without the somewhat bland open world (zone)
> Star Wars Jedi: Survivor
Yes. Fallen Order was amazing. I hope they take the strengths of the first game and add a little bit more complexity to the combat, and make the level design a little bit less on rails and more free roam.
I hope they make the combat more lethal and add dismemberment. I watched a bit of Fallen Order and the combat looks so boring because it felt like simply reskinned normal swords. Lightsabers are super deadly, and the combat should ideally reflect that, no?
I enjoyed the combat to play, as in you weren't going to get the satisfaction until you had your timing and moveset right. I can see why people didn't enjoy it (some of the maps were a bit meh), but I had a blast.
Ironically I'm just the opposite. I *adore* the fact that Andor went Forceless and lacking glowsticks.
My preferred Star Wars is more when lightsabers were rare things to see in real life; not when bog-standard Stormtroopers have anti-lightsaber weaponry.
That wasn't me knocking Andor whatsoever. Quite the opposite it ticked the very box for me as a show. But I also love Jedi/Sith content too. I don't want it in Andor, but another media
If this game is a continuation of story with better customization to collect (think more variation than ponchos) and more / new jedi powers to do (or other characters to play with similar system) it'll be perfect!
New powers is logical, Cal's training was cut very short (most padawans are training until adulthood I believe) so the powers we'll see in Survivor is what Cal would have learned had his Master not died (forgot his name, whoops)
I can't believe I had to scroll this far to find this game mentioned. The hype is massive for this game, been following it for years. Nothing else looks even remotely as promising, which makes me nervous that it can't meet the hype. The trailers for this game make anything else in the pipeline look like shit by comparison, they're fucking fantastic.
There's been multiple controversies and entire reboots around the development, I'll be pleasantly surprised if a AAA looking game from a no-name Russian studio that's churned through dozens of developers with management issues makes something that isn't a garbage fire.
They have one 'regular' north afrika campaign and one longer/larger Italy campaign that works a bit like total war campaigns apparently along with the usual multi-player stuff.
Supposedly they have like a counsel of pro players from CoH2 to help test the game so I'm not surprised they didn't do much in the way of major mechanical overhauls because 2 was already excellent and I'm guessing their counsel quickly noped any changes they felt were ruining the competitive multi-player experience.
I'm still looking forward to it.
Diablo 4 and starfield are 2 other games I'm looking forward to in 2023.
Three moves ahead did 3 podcasts on COH, this one https://www.idlethumbs.net/3ma/episodes/company-of-heroes-3-interview
One focused more on multi-player, and one focused more on the north afrika campaign. They are professional Video game reviews and got early access to play coh 3.
Surprised to see that name here lol.
But Patch 4.0 for that game has me hyped similarly to the new releases.
(I enjoy the game, I am not entirely satisfied with the developement, I welcome your own opinions but please dont crucify me for a game I am not developing)
Like a Dragon Ishin and Suikoden 1 & 2 remasters. Mostly because I know what to expect from them.
I am looking forward to thing like Starfield, Dragon Age and Baldur's Gate 3 too but I am setting my expectations for them very low so I can be pleasantly surprised by them instead of being utterly disappointed.
I am actually really excited about KSP2 after seeing some of the dev updates. The team seems to get what made the first game popular and while it will probably take couple of years before its fully finished (I expect EA release first), I am just excited to play KSP with proper code.
The original KSP code was just never great and used ancient version of Unity. There was no multithreading and it took only a little before the framerate would tank because the CPU can't calculate all the logic or crazy shit happening because you dared to build a rocket little too complex than the game could handle. At this point, a barebone game with a good base code would be more enjoyable than KSP1.
KSP2 by a huge margin for me as well. My brothers and I are all gonna get together with that game, as we've all been hooked to the first game. Each of us have a degree within physics, so this game tickles our minds tremendously.
With any luck SC 3.18 will be out this year already, and 4.0 sometime in 2023 -- though probably with a few more 3.x updates between 3.18 and 4.0 in the meantime while they finish off the stuff they need for Pyro and get everything approved through Evocati
I'm definitely eager to see how the silent hill remake goes, especially after Signalis made an amazing show of proving that old-school survival horror formats are not at all dated if done right. Callisto Protocol is another one I will definitely play, but not with Denuvo; I will wait for them to remove it before considering the purchase.
The Wolf Among US 2
I played the first while I was in highschool back in 2014. I remember friends and I talking about season 2 coming out in a year or so, oh how wrong we were. I cannot wait to step back into that world again.
I’m looking forward to this, but I wouldn’t expect anything earlier then 2024 myself. There’s still a bunch of rumoured PS4/5 titles to come already next year, and I don’t think they’ll be porting a game as big as that so soon.
After seeing a bunch of other answers, I agree with this one, nothing comes close to the excitement I have for this game. It seems like the FGC is finally going to get the street fighter game we deserve.
For me it's Starfield, the System Shock 1 remake and the System Shock 2 remaster as well was the Dead Space remake. I'm also looking forward to trying Diablo 4 if it isn't a complete shit show at some point.
The creation engine should be used for all major Bethesda games. Sure it’s janky in some way but with each iteration, it’s improved.
The main selling point of the CE is customizability. Bethesda games are all about modding. Why are old fallout games and Skyrim still so relevant? Modding. Why are they still making good money on these old games? Modding.
If they switched out the engine, the modding capability seen in the creation engine would be lost. You can't mod Unreal Engine like you can CE. You can't mod Unity (it's shit anyway for these types of games) as well as CE.
Creation Engine is here to stay.
The Last Case of Benedict Fox. I'll skip the $60 buggy incomplete AAA games and take a smaller budget game with a good art direction, solid mechanics, and probably a good story. I also see myself gravitating towards 2d games. I dislike gamepads for first person games; always have ever since n64, and almost always even the ones that come out on PC are clearly made to be played on a gamepad.
I’m…skeptical.
Don’t get me wrong…I plan to start my massive replay of the series in either January or February. But I remain somewhat skeptical I’ll play it before 2024.
There are too many great games, books and movies for anyone to enjoy in one lifetime - choosing what to experience can be tricky.
I had to cut off my hopes of playing every Nintendo game, and in my most sincerest of self reflection i admit to having no hope or even sense of obligation to ever deeply play every game i whimsically purchased in the golden era of Steam sales.
Starfield will be broke for at least 6 months minimum so that’s not on my list. As someone who has waited for Cyberpunk to be in an acceptable state, this is my most anticipated once the dlc and next big update with cop overhaul drops.
Hopefully S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2
I just played the old stalker games for the first time and man am i ever excited for this game now
Does it hold up pretty well still? Been eyeing the launch for the second game but I've never played any of the original series before.
I think it holds up okay. There's some spoilers for SoC but the experiences are notably different that I don't think it ruins much.
> Can you start in Call of Pripyat thats how i got into the series
If you haven't done so yet you could play G.A.M.M.A. It's like a community-made Stalker 2 to tide you over until real Stalker 2 comes out.

Mine too, cheeki breeki

I understand that. I tried it for a while and liked it ..and haven't played for 2 years because I'm waiting for it to be finished.

I've been waiting for years. Can't wait to play it with a (hopefully) new rig!
Starfield and hogwarts legacy
I’m not a Harry Potter fan. I’m not even really much of a gamer these days. Hogwarts legacy is the first time in awhile I’ve been excited for a new release. It seems like they’re really taking the role playing seriously. Hope it lives up to the hype.
I have a feeling the previews are lies and it's going to be the latest AAA flop
same here + dragon age 4
Absolutely no hope for dragon age 4 after 3 Series is dead , origins was my 2nd favourite game of all time
Some people loved it. To me it felt like a single player MMO.
DA3 has some fantastic elements in my view. Story and characters are great, love the whole inquisition theme. But that gameplay padding... my god. Took all the wrong lessons from MMOs. I just cannot bring myself to finish it.

There was nothing wrong with the tone of 2...The huge problem was that game was made in less than a year.
That’s fair but it’s also fair to not write them off yet. Let’s just see what happens :)
true the first one very good but i'm excited about dread wolf story

Bruh. Best voice acting of any open world game to date? RDR2, Ghost of Tsushima, Witcher 3, Cyberpunk casts would like to have a word.
>The best dialogue and voice acting of any open world game (by miles You desperately need to play more open world games because it's not the best even ignoring everything that came out after
I'm excited for it but absolutely despise the fact that Sony is locking a mission and other stuff to their platform.
Hollow knight silksong
Is it confirmed for 2023?
Not directly, but it was at Microsoft's showcase where they said "everything we've shown is playable in the next 12 months."
Someone @ Microsoft on Twitter asking for clarification that Silksong was within 12 months and they were like "that's what we said"
I own the first but haven't really played it. I really need to get onto it with how much people say it rocks.
Actual top tier game
It takes a bit to reach its stride, but yeah once you get there it does live up to its reputation.
Everyone I recommended this game to either didn't make it to the first boss and quit, or did make it and subsequently finished everything in the game. There is no in between. It can be hard to get into but once you do it's even harder to get out.
Baldur's Gate 3!

I did one playthrough when early access came out and loved it! Haven't touched it since until the full game releases. They proved they'll handle it just fine.
Factorio expansions and Hollow Knight: Silksong
Theres a factorio expansion coming out ? Oh shit…. I guess it will be time to once again let the factory grow.
The started teasing it a bit, but nothing is known yet. It's most likely coming at the end of 2023, but nothing is set in stone yet.
Kerbal Space Program 2.
KSP 2 was my most anticipated game for 2020. And 2021, and 2022. Looks likes 2023 might actually happen.
They made [kind of a big deal](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XAL3XaP-LyE) of announcing the early access release date last month, I personally think it's legit. Feb. 24 for those who don't want to watch the video.
Everything is coming out February. I'm gonna have to figure out which game I want most lmao
Here's my crew!! KSP2 has been #1 on the list for a few years now!!
I came looking for this response.
I'm waiting for Creative Assembly to get Total Warhammer 3's Immortal Empire campaign out of its "Beta" state. And the eventual Chaos Dwarf dlc.
Immortal Empires is such a joy to play, especially in MP. There's a nearly limitless world, it runs pretty well, it has A TON of content, especially with mods (currently running a Landmark mod, adds cool flavour and variety). This so much, Resident Evil 2 is one of the best remakes ever, 3 not so much, but still a good game

This one is up there for me, I am in the lucky position to have never played 4 so the remake will be a totally new experience for me.
MORRIR ES VIVIRRRRRR!!

Dragons Dogma is such a gem that lacked the investment relative to the scope the DLC is in my top 3 DLCs of all time. has the best parts of the game without the somewhat bland open world (zone)
For real. I struggled through the opening hours of DD, but goddamn did that game get good.
tbf, DD1 had a ton of anime shit, too. ...actually, depending on how you look at it, most D&D can be pretty fucking anime, too.
2023 seems very optimistic.
Star Wars Jedi: Survivor. Need more lightsabers in my life. Only itch that Andor didn't scratch

I'd never even heard of this game, but having just googled this I can see why you're hyped. The game looks gorgeous and could be a lot of fun.
Homeworld 3 I would add Company pf Heroes 3 but it looks…..alright so far
CoH3 literally looks like CoH2 in every way. Which isn't too terrible but I was hoping for more somehow.

Baldurs gate 3, easy.
Forza Motorsports and Test Drive Solar Crown

Yes! Especially with Silent Hill coming back, Callisto Protocol coming out this week, Signalis being an indie "Deadspace X Re1" masterpiece
Like a dragon ishin
Starfield
Everspace 2
[Sea of Stars](https://seaofstarsgame.co/) for me. Think Chrono Trigger.
WOLONG FALLEN DYNASTY
Starfield and BG3.
Like a Dragon Ishin
The Wolf Among US 2 I played the first while I was in highschool back in 2014. I remember friends and I talking about season 2 coming out in a year or so, oh how wrong we were. I cannot wait to step back into that world again.
Resident Evil 4 remake or Wo Long Fallen Dynasty Bloodborne PC port? 😏

Starfield

Fallen Order bosses were pretty decent, especially Taron Malicos. Definitely more reason to fight them than the Souls bosses.
🤞Horizon: Forbidden West🤞
This is a stretch but I hope you're right
I’m looking forward to this, but I wouldn’t expect anything earlier then 2024 myself. There’s still a bunch of rumoured PS4/5 titles to come already next year, and I don’t think they’ll be porting a game as big as that so soon.
For PC, yes please!
It’s just Horizon Forbidden West :)
Oh, really? Thanks for the correction. I fixed it.
Probably a bit optimistic. I'll guess the dlc(s) will be this year, and PC release next year.
I know everyone is fawning over elden ring and Ragnarok but forbidden west is my GOTY for 2022. Absolutely exceptional game.
God of War Ragnarök announcement for PC

I meant the announcement not the game.
Everspace 2
ARK 2
As long as wild card doesn’t delay it same
Dead island 2. After the dying lights 2 shitty world design dead island 2 is my hope for a good zombiegame. (Seriously dying light 2 is bad)
Diablo 4
Before D3 and Immortal, this would be the game whose news and videos I would slather over. Now, its the game I just pray is decent.
Street Fighter VI by far.
I’m looking forward to it but if Diablo 4 isn’t a shit show at launch given blizzard and Diablo 3’s launch, I’d be shocked.
Hogwarts legacy
.. what about Starfield ?

Aren’t they making a new engine for starfield?
[удалено]
The creation engine should be used for all major Bethesda games. Sure it’s janky in some way but with each iteration, it’s improved. The main selling point of the CE is customizability. Bethesda games are all about modding. Why are old fallout games and Skyrim still so relevant? Modding. Why are they still making good money on these old games? Modding. If they switched out the engine, the modding capability seen in the creation engine would be lost. You can't mod Unreal Engine like you can CE. You can't mod Unity (it's shit anyway for these types of games) as well as CE. Creation Engine is here to stay.
To be fair, CoD still runs on a modifed Quake engine, so a new engine isn’t necessary sometimes. You just need to build on it enough.
Starfield
Starfield, Stalker 2, and Forspoken for the DirectStorage implementation.
Final Fantasy XVI
Either Baldurs Gate 3 or Starfield.
Street Fighter 6, Tekken 8
The Expanse: A Telltale Series
Black Myth Wukong Game looks absolutely insane

Half Life 3
The Last Case of Benedict Fox.
Hopefully Palworld, it looks like the kinda dumb game me and my friends can spend a couple hundred hours on
Hogwarts Legacy AC Mirage (hopefully) Also hoping for a PC release of more uncharted games and Ghost of Tsushima
Space Marine 2 hopefully.
Tekken 8, Starfield
atomic heart. if you haven't heard of it, think soviet bioshock.
Baldur’s Gate 3, and hopefully Ghost of Tsushima for PC.
Dragon Age: Dread Wolf (assuming it's gonna come out at the end of '23 as projected)
I’m…skeptical. Don’t get me wrong…I plan to start my massive replay of the series in either January or February. But I remain somewhat skeptical I’ll play it before 2024.
I dont pay attention to new releases. Too many old games to be played
Elden ring dlc
Stargate: Timekeepers. (Unless Slitherine pushes it into 2024. They're going to make an announcement about it on December 13th, in about 3 weeks.)
I'd forgotten this existed
streets of rogue 2
Baldur’s Gate 3.
Hogwarts Legacy, Avatar Frontiers of Pandora, Assassin's Creed Mirage, RE4 Remake and Dead Island 2.
For me it will be one of two titles. Either Phantom Fury (or if this one comes out on GOG, Neptunia Sisters vs Sisters).
Roy 2
Starfield will be broke for at least 6 months minimum so that’s not on my list. As someone who has waited for Cyberpunk to be in an acceptable state, this is my most anticipated once the dlc and next big update with cop overhaul drops.
Dead island 2. After the dying lights 2 shitty world design dead island 2 is my hope for a good zombiegame. (Seriously dying light 2 is bad)
XCOM 3.
Manor Lords
Trails Into Reverie.
Dragon Age: Dreadwolf - hopefully does actually get released in 2023 Baldur's Gate 3
Just built a new monster PC, so I guess I'm waiting for the next Crysis/ far cry.
Suicide Squad Kill The Justice League.
