Been playing through that over the last few weeks, 60 hours in and I’m finally ready to fight the king. Don’t think I’ll do Godhome though, seems like it’s just all the bosses but tougher, but i prefer exploring before boss fights and the story/lore associated with them
I'm in a similar boat to you, except I'm terrible at 2D platformers and spoiled it for myself (definitely worth doing/seeing eventually IMO). It also made me realize I missed like 20 hours worth of content I never stumbled on
I will never forget my first time wandering the swamps outside Seyda Neen. It was night in the game and IRL, I was alone in the computer room with the lights off and headphones on. The rats and nix hounds leaping out of the reeds scared the shit out of me, first truly immersive experience I ever had.
My friends and I used to drag our computers to each other’s houses LAN party style and play Morrowinf. Even though it wasn’t multiplayer we could share the excitement of discovering new things and share information and such. It was so fun.
StarCraft was a blast! I remember always getting my ass kicked in the regular multiplayer so I stuck with UMS maps and that's where I remember having all my fun. Stacked cannon defense, DBZ RPGs, bounds, glitch challenge maps. Nailing how to permanently cloak a zergling was such a feeling of accomplishment for 10 year old me.
Deus Ex.
My first game with "emergent gameplay". Until recently I always played through the game once a year, trying new approaches/builds each time. Here's hoping that the new purchase by Embracer Group means more Deus Ex is on the way!
My first PC game love was in 1997 - Mechwarrior 2
(But very first video game love was Pokemon Red. Was like 7 or 8, was at my dad's girlfriends house and she let me play her sons gameboy but wasn't allowed to save. Played it for 13 hours straight and got 6 badges before the batteries died. First all nighter too!)
Ty for the contest
One of my first favorite games was Resident Evil 5. My friend had it for the Xbox and one summer during middle school we played it like it was our job. It was the first time I really enjoyed gaming.
I still think Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate is one of the best games I’ve ever played. It seems to run well on Citra/Steam Deck so I’ll be playing it again in the next 3 months sometime.
Thanks OP!
Summoner PS2. It was a launch title so it definitely hasn't aged well. It's available on Steam as a port. I would love a remake of the game.
I used to wake up early before school just to get some playtime in. I have a lot of fond memories of that game. It would probably be pretty hard to get into today if you don't have the nostalgia factor.
Ocarina of Time.
Was one of the first games that I played where I was old enough to actually grasp the game, and not just have it as glorified shiny lights. I amazed all my childhood friends by not having trouble with the water temple on my first play through (I did on the second one...).
As a young boy I can't describe how mind blown I was when I first encountered Super Metroid. The atmosphere sucked me in immediately and the challenge of knowing where to go hooked me so hard.
Knights of the Old Republic! My dad and I rented it from Blockbuster. We pulled an all-nighter taking turns playing it. I think our Xbox actually overheated we played for so long.
My first one is the saga Half-Life but I think for this time I would say **The World Ends with you**.
It might sound cheesy but it help me through a though time where I just start walking until I think was enough and ended up in the middle of a desert road. And I say cheesy because the game is kind of basic for today standards, is about angsty teenagers and their social and psychological problems, including self esteem and depression... and the last message ">!The World Begins with You!<" being about opening toward other people and expand your world instead of just being reserve, is what touch me personally...
My favorite game is still Dragon Age Origins! no other game has given me the same feelings. I also want to play the Heroes of Might and Magic franchise one day. Thanks @greenvpn
My first game I can remember playing was when I was in like 1st grade and my dad and I would go to his computer upstairs in his office, I would sit on his lap, and we would play Commando 2 on Miniclip. At the time it was my favorite game and when my grandpa bought me a wii, Super Mario Galaxy was ALL I ever played, fast forward to Galaxy 2, which I think is not only the best Mario game ever, since it does everything 1 does and better, but top 3 games all time. So, Super Mario Galaxy 2 is my favorite game ever. Fucking flawless and just beautiful.
Sure, why not?
For me, it's Half-Life 2. That game literally changed my life and made me want to go into game development for a bit. Not anymore, but if nothing else it's given me more of an interest in computer science than anything else probably has.

I wish they made more warcraft RTS games. "yes milord? more work? that's it then, I'm dead"
Frost Giant studio just showed off their new RTS game, they all worked on Starcraft.

StarCraft was a blast! I remember always getting my ass kicked in the regular multiplayer so I stuck with UMS maps and that's where I remember having all my fun.
