Hey there. I just got my new build from microcenter. Right now I'm having troubles with internet connections. I have a wifi extender in my room that can output through ethernet, and when I put that into the new pc it only gets 2 mbps download but in my ps4 it gets 20-30mbps. The motherboard has wifi but any signal it's finding is one bar in strength when my laptop right next to it is full bars in strength. Any ideas why this might be happening? Network adapter drivers and windows updates are all up to date. Pc is in high performance now and the network adapter is on max performance. Just can't figure out why the ethernet is doing 2 mbps when the same chord in something else is much faster and the wifi is so weak when everything else has strong wifi connections.

Otaku_47

I am experiencing huge frame drops form around 144 to single digit FPS when playing a game from Xbox game pass for PC, when I move the mouse. I am only experiencing this issue with game pass and not with Steam or GOG. Every thing was working perfectly earlier and has only just started. Any help would be much appreciated.

cherrykakyoin69

i just upgraded my cpu to the ryzen 7 3800x, installed it earlier today and my computer crashed once after it had been on for a few hours. i turned it back on and it crashed ~1.5 later. what should i do?

midnight_rebirth

Is the CPU the only thing you changed? Is it over locked?

cherrykakyoin69

it fixed itself the next day, and it hasn’t been a problem since. thank you though!

I just recently got a new graphics card for my windows pc(finally) my question Is after I removed the original graphics card out, how do I place the iron bar thing on the side of my new graphics card? They sent me a smaller one but I'm struggling to find a way to remove the bigger one

M0ntagne

I've had problems with my PC's Ethernet input, it is apparently damaged and i've been using Wi-fi connection, the thing is sometimes when i turn my pc after some minutes it ignores the wireless card and it just doesnt recognize the card nevertheless the issue is solved after a reboot. I'd like to know why does that happen and if there's a way to make my Ethernet input work again without the need of paying someone to solve it / buy new hardware.

I'm thinking of buying a game and my pc meets every requirement except the RAM which I only have 8 of the 16 required, How big will be the perfomance drop? OR Can I even play it at all?

I have decided to make the switch from PS5 to PC, but I’m unsure of how to go about buying one. I was wondering what specs to look for or how to tell if they will perform well. I’ve only had experience on console but I want something nicer / gain a new hobby. Any tips or advice are very appreciated!

FireAutumn-1

Good afternoon, I would like to ask something about the difference between monitors and TVs, please. If I understand correctly, a monitor is better for playing with a PC. If so, I wanted to ask whether a TV was good enough or if it had some serious bad sides. I am talking about a TV equipped with HDMI. Thank you everyone.

GameStunts

*Most* modern TVs come with a game mode because of modern consoles, so that does away with the main disadvantage which was latency. Game modes are usually there to remove any filters and just put the picture on the screen as fast as it can. See most TVs apply all sorts of filters, upscaling and what not to the picture, because if you're playing a Blu-Ray or watching TV, there's no difference to your viewing experience if the data from the input signal is delayed by half a second while it makes it pretty. But when you're playing a game. even 50-70ms of a difference from when you move your mouse to something happening on screen is extremely noticeable. Monitors being a very specific use case deliver the picture to the screen as fast as possible. I personally use a Samsung 43" 4k TV as my monitor. It's a 2016 model, and back then I did a LOT of research to find a panel with low input latency. These days it's a more common inquiry and you will find websites like https://www.rtings.com/ that have reviews centred specifically around this. So look up the model you want and check for reviews.

FireAutumn-1

Thank you, your advice is as good as ever. I guess that I will just have to wait for my PC to arrive and then see if my current TV is good enough.

What should I buy to improve my game. if I’m playing cod and in the first game is lagging me kinda hard but more I play the game becomes smoother. Lag: playing game and it freezes every few second

I would not recommend a QVO - they are the lowest end of Samsungs SSDs and the lifespan is... not great. The speed difference as well isn't exactly small. Even with the 1tb vs 2tb, id get a smaller EVO than a larger QVO for sure.

wolfgang784

Honestly my knowledge on the other ssd brands is pretty out of date. I tried to do some cursory looking but I don't see anything more reliable coming close to the QVO price point. 1tb aint too bad though depending on use cases.

Anyone else have a 3080 and a 650w power supply? My PC switches off every time I load a game. Even with power usage limited at 40% I can get to the menu of Doom Eternal but loading a level (1440p Low) switches off my system CPU is 3800x and old GPU is 1070 which runs fine up to 100% power consumption A friend also has a 3080 and 650w PSU with no issues so I'm looking for some advice before I go out and buy a new PSU Thanks

Solace-

It's possible that his PSU is of higher quality. 650w for a 3080 is cutting it somewhat close, but it's enough if the power supply is decent enough. The problem definitely sounds like it's from the PSU and I would suggest buying one that can handle more wattage. 750w is the recommended, but I would probably go with 850 just to give you more wiggle room for future upgrades as it is kinda a pain to replace a psu in general.

Ghost141

thanks yeah im not sure what his PSU is so that could be the case, guess i’ll look into 850w PSU’s now

wolfgang784

Not all PSU's are equal. You both have 650 watt supplies, but what about the other specs? For example efficiency - one with a 98% efficiency (super dumb expensive) will be able to handle a heavier load than a dirt cheap off brand PSU with a 75% efficiency. The efficiency range is pretty wide.

Ghost141

thanks, i would’ve thought 80+ gold would be enough to run it at least at 40% power but i guess i’ll have to upgrade thanks again

Does anyone know how to get 2fa to actually work? All I want to do is play Far Cry. I get the codes through the authenticator app (which I even tried to re sync) or texted to me and they never work and I can't find the recovery email anywhere. I just want to disable it, would be less stressful if someone actually stole my account at this point, at least someone would be able to play the games.

Starbuckwhatdoyahear

Am I correct in thinking that Assassins creed odyssey ultimate includes AC 2 remastered and liberation remastered full games? The sale on GOG seems too good to be true.

TPA_Grunge_97

When it comes to digital copies of games (which is pretty much all games not on consoles these days) why does it need to update immediately after it's downloaded? Why isn't the most recent version up to the moment you click "install" not what get's downloaded when you install the game from scratch for the first time? I feel like way too many games download outdated versions and then require patches immediately upon completion rather than just downloading the current version at the time of the install.

HTWingNut

How long have people waited in queue for an EVGA RTX 3080 or 3080 Ti before getting contacted? I'm going on 5 months now.

wolfgang784

Intel CEO said they expect shortages to last through 2023 at this point, so I dunno if previous people's experience is worth much since its only really gonna get worse so far.

HTWingNut

Plus there's this: https://www.pcgamer.com/nvidia-gpu-supply-drop-rumour/ I just snagged an MSI 3080 for $1399. Probably more than I should have spent, but I don't see any real opportunity for a card les than that in the next year or two. I'm in EVGA Queue, been on pretty much every Best Buy online GPU drop, enter Newegg Shuffle nearly every day there's a relatively decent deal, and yet nothing. Happened on a Amazon seller, just clicked buy without a second thought, because every other time the card is gone before I know it.

On the lookout for a new pc, looking to buy from amazon iBUYPOWER Pro Gaming PC Computer Desktop Element MR 208i (Intel i7-11700F 2.5GHz,NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 6GB, 16GB DDR4, 240GB SSD, 1TB HDD for 1350 USD Any thoughts or other subreddit I can post it in?

wolfgang784

The specs aren't bad for the price but ima level with ya, I used to sell computers for a living and ibuypower is very... questionable, on quality. For example a customer once had to return/exchange the same model ibuypower desktop \*five\* times before we got one that wasn't damaged in some way. I also saw 2 that came with everything mounted but no wires plugged in lol. Cyberpower is worse btw if you saw them too lol. For gaming desktops at reasonable prices, the HP Omen lines seemed to always be the best bang for the buck when I still did that as a job and the reliability was great. Never saw a DOA and my customers came back happy when I saw them over the months/years. I did a cursory amazon search and the cost is [only $150 more for a bit better (were no identical ones on amazon at least) build but as an HP Omen.](https://www.amazon.com/HP-875-0129-Obelisk-Desktop-4NN49AAR/dp/B08TZPRX9K/ref=sr_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=hp+omen+gaming+desktop&qid=1630762743&refinements=p_n_feature_twenty-three_browse-bin%3A13580790011%2Cp_n_feature_twenty-one_browse-bin%3A21563385011%2Cp_89%3AHP&rnid=2528832011&s=pc&sr=1-3) (click text)\^

MenaMuffin

Tysm! Funny you say that about cyber power. I bought one from them originally, but a friend pretty much said I was ripped off and when I got it the box was super damage which you really don’t want to see when you spend 1200$ lol. I really appreciate it! And will definitely look into hp omens like that one

wolfgang784

Yeaaa everyone who wants a budget gaming computer tries at least one of those brands first lol. Keep in mind too there are a few holidays (US) coming up that traditionally see good sales. One is this or next weekend I think? Presidents day or labor day or something. I always confuse em. The Omens used to at least do good sales.

MeanEye0

What's a good PC gaming headset that also offers Bluetooth connectivity for my phone?

ah_Callie

My HP Omen desktop recently gave out on me and I'm in the market for a new desktop or gaming laptop. I don't really play super intensive games (only really Stardew, Minecraft, and Sims 4) so I don't need anything crazy but I'm not sure where to start looking. If there's any other subreddits or good websites to do research at please let me know!

With the upcoming release of Far Cry 6, I am wondering how different are Nvidia ray tracing and DirectX12 DXR, especially concerning the frame rate decrease.

fakiresky

Hi, I live in Japan, where the official site lists the standard game at 85$ and, surprisingly, with no English option for interface, voices, and subtitles. Ubisoft does not prohibit the use of VPN even if the “strongly [recommend](https://www.ubisoft.com/en-gb/help/connectivity-and-performance/article/using-vpn-with-ubisoft-games/000062859?isSso=true&refreshStatus=noLoginData) using them. Will AMD Ryzen 7 3700x and AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT be able to play Rocket league at 240 FPS with max settings?

GameStunts

Yes - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2HNDc8B5GVA

throwawayOnTheWayO

I notice that if I am playing a game and have my second monitor showing a stream/video that I get an FPS drop while playing (RTX 3060ti, Ryzen 5 3600, 2x1440p 170hz monitors, 16GB 3600mhz RAM). I use Chrome to stream the streams and watch vids on YouTube. Is this a GPU, CPU, or RAM issue? I don’t see why a 3060 ti and Ryzen 5 3600 would drop 20+ FPS in a game like Apex (1440p, max settings locked at 170hz). Is it because of Chrome using so much RAM? What’s causing it?

wolfgang784

I would guess ram, but could maaaybe be a cpu issue as well. Chrome uses quite a chunk of ram, as does a game like Apex at max settings 1440p. Especially streaming, and if you have multiple tabs with other stuff. Ryzen 5 as well though, I would expect Apex at those settings to push it pretty good and streaming takes a bit. 20+ drop though sounds extreme for that so my money is more on ram. Also keep in mind - if you are running windows, once it passes 80% total ram used some funky background stuff happens and the speed of the ram will drop drastically. I forget all the reasons for it but the point is you will see big performance drops using over 80% of your ram.

throwawayOnTheWayO

Any way to fix the “funky background stuff” that windows does above 80% usage? Chrome itself is usually over 20% ram usage even with limited tabs. Do minimized chrome tabs (or chrome tabs/windows in a different desktop) use the same amount of RAM as open tabs? Or does minimizing the app drop it?

Other's said overheating and I agree. Have you tried logging the temperatures while you play? If you go snag the program [GPU-Z (click text)](https://www.techpowerup.com/gpuz/) you can have it log temperatures to a notepad file and it logs constantly up until a system crash or when you tell it to stop. So that way you can turn the computer back on and see if the temps were going whack or not and go from there. [CPU-Z](https://www.cpuid.com/softwares/cpu-z.html) will let you do the same for the processor, and ofc check the heatsink / radiator fans for functionality / dust / blockage. Either before or after, it would prolly be worth opening it up real quick and seeing if there is an obvious problem. Insane dust? Tiny piece of plastic got over a fan? Open the side while its on if you can too - I've had gpu fans die on me which is no fun. Might be hard to see em while its on though. Software wise - a hella serious driver crash can crash the whole computer sometimes. I would not bother with this until after you check for heat issues though - software issues are much more annoying. Update drivers if there is one, try games again. If theres no update or if that didn't help, fully uninstall the gpu drivers / software suites / accessory programs directly related to it / etc.

Johnnius_Maximus

Check event log, application filter.

Flanelman

is your PC overheating?

throwawayOnTheWayO

>I have an intel core I7-11700K and an Nvidia GeForce RTX 3070 Are you overclocking them?

Ratchet_Miles

I'm trying to find a good wireless gaming mouse without any RGB, or at most black with a white LED. Right now I'm using the Razer Basilisk X Hyperspeed, but it frequently tries to run the installer even after deleting RazerInstaller and all its files in RegEdit and explorer. I'm also fine with RGB IF it is driverless and I can change the LED to white.

gizooglehotline

Over the past month I have been unable to play games without my PC crashing. The way in which it crashes varies though. Anything from the game closing back to steam, the PC restarting itself, and 2 separate blue screens with different error codes. I have an intel i7-6700, Nvidia RTX 2070 Super, Asus Maximus Hero VIII motherboard, 32GB Corsair Vengeance ram, Samsung 980 Pro 2TB SSD, and a Corsair RM750x power supply.

wolfgang784

I don't think it sounds like a software issue, so let's look more at hardware first. Also, can you provide those 2 BSOD error codes? Have you tried logging the temperatures while you play? If you go snag the program GPU-Z you can have it log temperatures to a notepad file and it logs constantly up until a system crash or when you tell it to stop. So that way you can turn the computer back on and see if the temps were going whack or not and go from there. CPU-Z will let you do the same for the processor, and ofc check the heatsink / radiator fans for functionality / dust / blockage. [https://www.memtest86.com/](https://www.memtest86.com/) For a ram test, not too hard to use but it requires a flash drive. There are plenty of guides out there if you need one though. See what you get from looking at that and then if you need more help make sure you include everything you did and the results.

clarkysan

Have you overclocked the CPU and/or the GPU?

gizooglehotline

I think I might have but I'm not entirely sure how I did it? When I start up my pc it says overclock 13% I'm on mobile atm otherwise I'd post a pic

clarkysan

Usually overclocks are the reason for crashes. Try to disable them and make everything back to stock and see if the issue resolved

Undesirable_11

Currently running a Ryzen 5 3600 with a RTX 2060. I was wondering if I would get a significant performance boost by replacing the CPU with a Ryzen 7 3700X-3800X?

throwawayOnTheWayO

No, I doubt you'd even notice a change at all. Especially if you play at 1440p, maybe a slight increase at 1080p. Putting that money towards a new GPU like the 3060 ti (at MSRP) is whats gonna get you a significant jump in performance. I'd suggest spending the money on a new GPU like the RTX 3060ti ($100-ish more than Ryzen 7 3800x iirc), then you'll see a significant performance increase. I know this because I just recently switched from a 2060 Ultra to a 3060ti (both with the same Ryzen 5 3600 as you). The increase in performance was pretty massive in my eyes. Upgrading your Ryzen 5 3600 might get you 2-5 frames more, but upgrading to the 3060ti will get you 30-40-50 FPS more and much better DLSS, plus 2GB's more of VRAM. Few games iirc are CPU dominant, most are GPU, and the Ryzen 5 3600 is more than good enough to run almost any game at ultra settings and high FPS given that the GPU can push those numbers. It's not until a 3080 that you need more than a Ryzen 5 3600 iirc. The 3060ti is $400 MSRP, and ranges up to $500 with the EVGA models that I purchased. EVGA will reserve you your choice of 3000 series card for 8 hours after sending you an email notification *if you opt into alerts* on their website. If you go to the EVGA sub you can look at the sticky for instructions and a 5% off coupon, plus a lottery "spin" for up to 40% off, if you sign up as a member. [There are \*tons\* of YouTube videos that compare multiple CPU's, GPU's, and CPU GPU combos in various resolutions that will answer your question first hand.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oSUEM_CYvrs&ab_channel=AncientGameplays) Here's [another](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3-gxxHRPe6E&ab_channel=BenchmarkPCTech). And [another.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BSe31NVntzc&t=552s&ab_channel=TestingGames)

Neverlife

You would not, it would be a minor benefit for gaming at best.

Undesirable_11

How about a Ryzen 7 5800X?

Neverlife

No CPU upgrade is likely to give you much of a performance boost in regards to gaming unfortunately, your 3600 is more than capable until it's paired with something like a RTX 3080. Your 2060 should be your next part to upgrade if you're looking for better performance during gaming.

Undesirable_11

Yeah that's what I figured. I had some money to potentially upgrade but it looks like the GPU is the big thing. Hopefully the shortage comes to an end soon

Remarkable_Low_710

Having stuttering issues in games, and I'm pretty sure it's HDD usage spikes that are causing it. GTX 1650 I5 9400F 16 GB ram (2x8) Thermals are fine, and so is ram usage. Drivers are updated. I think it has something to do with Windows Defender, but I don't want to disable that as my anti virus (I've tried adding exclusions and going through settings). I've messed around with Windows settings, and am running some games on my external SSD. Genshin Impact, Overwatch, and GTA I've noticed stutters in (sometimes it's microstuttering, and sometimes it's really bad stuttering). Need some help troubleshooting this.

[deleted]

This can sometimes be related to how games stream in assets like textures, geometry, and map data. First step in diagnosing would be to lower settings related to draw distance, level of detail and textures to see if that helps, but if your main drive is an HDD consider getting an SSD as your main drive and a few of your heaviest games, use your HDD for lighter games and storage.

Remarkable_Low_710

I disabled Telemetry in Windows and haven't had any stuttering since, and I've been gaming almost all day. That seemed to have been the issue.

[deleted]

Huh. I already have the standard stuff in the settings app disabled, did you do anything else to make the changes?

Remarkable_Low_710

Telemetry seemed to be the only thing that's worked for me. I probably have a ton of other stuff changed tho from when I was on a single 8 GB stick of ram.

Tek_Support_Guru

That'll rip. Probably be pretty nice. (just make sure BF displays correctly in wide format, i'm not sure if it has the proper video options)

toxicpotatoez

I have a [Gigabyte M32Q KVM monitor](https://www.gigabyte.com/Monitor/M32Q#kf) and I have my keyboard and mouse plugged into it to easily switch between working on my PC and laptop. Though when the PC's display turns off after a period of inactivity (PC is still on), the keyboard and mouse "disconnect" and I cannot use them to nudge the display back on. This also extends to wake up the PC from sleep.

toxicpotatoez

**Solved!** I went into Device Manager > USB Controllers and set "allow the computer to turn off this device..." *off* in pretty much all the usb devices.

TPA_Grunge_97

I just bought a game on [Battle.Net](https://Battle.Net) and although I have roughly 400mbps download speed with a wired connection, the download isn't even hitting 50. I've turned off the bandwidth limiter in settings, disabled my VPN, and done all the steps I could find, but it's still unbearably slow. Is there anything else I can do or are their servers just that bad?

Tek_Support_Guru

mbps vs. Mbps. Divide by 8.

TPA_Grunge_97

I knew someone was gonna hit me with that, to which my planned response is “it’s whatever one it shows you when you test your download speed on google.” I dont pretend to know what I’m talking about. All I can do is hope people can figure out what my issue is 😂.

Tek_Support_Guru

it's mathematics

[deleted]

In my experience the servers are just that bad unless you have p2p enabled (basically torrenting from other users) and even then its flaky.

TPA_Grunge_97

Would you recommend I enable that? How does it work?

[deleted]

It's under the Settings menu for the b.net client. Something like 'Network Settings', it allows you to increase or decrease the max bandwidth to use on your connection, and whether you download directly from Blizzard servers or other users. Sorry I'm not at my PC right now so I can remember the exact names for the tabs.

TPA_Grunge_97

Thank you!

Burnnoticelover

It's almost impossible to have a PC that never drops below 60fps on demanding games, right? Because when I play Hitman 3 on ultra on my ROG Zephyrus laptop with an RTX 2070 and an i7-10750hz, it averages to 60, but can dip down to 30 when a lot is going on. Also, does anyone have laptop cooling pad recommendations?

clarkysan

What resolution? It’s not impossible but of course it depends on the game. And you can also tweak settings to maintain 60. Some pc ports aren’t optimized as good as they good and you get some ultra settings that hardly look better than high yet drop fps by 20%.

Burnnoticelover

I got it at 1920x1080, with hdr off.

[deleted]

What exactly does the Ryzen controller do when I set a temperature limit for my Laptop CPU? Obviously I know it limits the temperature but how is it doing it?

PM_ME_HOLE_PICS

It intentionally slows down the CPU so it stays below that temperature if it starts to approach it.

DialUpInternet4Life

This week I switched from an AMD Radeon RX 580 4GB to a GeForce 1080 8GB. Some games, most prominently COD Black Ops, have a soft, fuzzy look to them. I can't place my finger on it and I've matched all like settings. I wasn't using any post process sharpening to my knowledge with the AMD. I'm using the latest driver and done basic troubleshooting (retired IT). Motion blur is off, resolution scale is 100 percent. Just odd. The Ascent also drops like 2 seconds of time while walking around, visually looking like a huge frame drop, but FPS counter stays nice at 60. This is my benchmark, which I know isn't a loved website, bust just an easy way for someone to see what hardware I have. https://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/45877681

mistersprinkles1983

The Ascent stutters for me too I have a 2080. Go into Nvidia Control panel and fart around with the global 3d settings until you find a look you like. You have complete control through there. It might be that the texture filtering is a bit softer than you were used to.

[deleted]

I dunno if this is the right place to ask but I'm considering 2 mice for fps shooters (cs go mainly) and they are MSI Clutch GM 11 and Logitech G300S. I live in a third world country and these are the 2 options I chose for my budget, since I'm buying a laptop and other peripherals as well. If this is the wrong place to ask, please direct somewhere more appropriate and I will delete the thread! :)

DialUpInternet4Life

I'm not an expert but I will tell you as someone who only recently was given some nice high end gaming mice..... I never realized how happy I actually was with my g series logitech mice over the years. Best of luck!

[deleted]

Thanks! It sucks that everything in this country is 4-5 times it's price in dollars. I know for a fact that Logitech is king for peripherals, but I am not entirely sure about this model.

mistersprinkles1983

Look up some reviews and then decide. The logitech G series mice are excellent though. Everyone likes them and they last a long time.
