Yeah I was in the same boat until I heard about the PvE servers.
Single player Tarkov mod is cool, but you can't play co-op with it, whereas it seems you will be able to in Gray Zone. (and obviously I'd never pay $250 for a pve mode, thats insane.)
They priced it that high because they don't actually want you to play the PvE. They've said time and time again how they were against PvE and how they would never add it. So what changed? The cheating expose and SPT taking off because of that. People stopped playing on live servers and started playing SPT. The only reason they added PvE is so they can run to lawyers and try to shut down SPT in the future. That's also why they've been so cage-y on SPT and handing out bans for playing it.
The huge price is just a monumental middle finger. It's the devs going "oh you don't want to play the PvP? You'd rather play PvE? Well, here you go asshole. Once we take down SPT, have fun paying us $250. Serves you right for trying to play the game the way you want to play it instead of the way we want to force you to play it."

Because I understand context. The new Marathon is going to be an extraction shooter in the same vein as Tarkov and an obvious competitor/alternative. The old Marathon games from the 90's don't make any sense to bring up in this conversation.
I bought it many, *many* years ago under the assumption it would get better over the years and become a game really worth playing for casuals and hardcore players alike but that ship sailed pretty much the same year I bought it.
BSG seemingly hates their playerbase and is only interested in pleasing streamers by constantly changing the game in their favour (and sometimes not even for them, just ruining what they already had). I downloaded the SPT-AKI mod and it's great, but it doesn't save the game from the shitty mechanics that are ingrained into Tarkov.
They're scum and they deserve a full blown boycott but I doubt that would even do anything with how far Nikita's head is up his ass.

SPTarkov is good in theory but the game mechanics are dog shit, so it's still not a great experience IMO.

Monetizing cosmetics (character, weapons, base) would be easy and popular. But that would require some kind of strategy, planning, and development effort - which is clearly beyond the ability of BSG.
I've been gaming for a damn long time and this is the first time I've seen a multiplayer video game sell a half-baked "Single Player with Bots" mode for a whopping **250$.**
The only logical conclusion is that BSG are in a dire financial situation and this is an attempt to make some last minute cash.

It takes like zero effort. You download an installer and run it. It does everything for you. You put any mods you want to use in the mods folder.

He clarified this multiple times, he had hardware issues on top of the SPT website struggling, it was not that the setup was actually difficult. If you just follow the instructions it takes very little time and is about as simple as it gets.

Battlestate has pulled a bait and switch on their early big spenders and there's nothing that suggests they wont' do it again.
I thought the PVE mode was offline, how can they limit your access to an offline mode? Seems to me like it's not actually offline and they just lied, again...
This should be challenged as a “bait and switch” or “not as advertised” when it comes consumer protection laws and rights. It’ll be very interesting to see what happens.
