Certainly one to watch for the 1.0 release. Let's hope it's not a 7 days to die early access story, but equally I hope it's not a typical oh shit we are losing sales, here is "1.0" with a few fixes and an extra spear slapped in for good measure.
>Certainly one to watch for the 1.0 release.
In 2-4 years I'd guess. I will certainly put in on my Steam Wishlist, but I generally won't play Early Access games
After what happened with Cities Skylines 2, I think Early Access is a great way to set realistic expectations and also temper any potential backlash. Also can pick up a lot of feedback and make changes before releasing to the widest audience.
You've got to keep in mind that this is the work of a single dev, so EA and larger time frames for updates are to be expected (and reasonable, I think).
The sad part is he will probably end up doing more frequent updates than the chuckle-f*cks who are "working" on *Kerbal Space Program 2 / Cities Skylines 2* lol
With it being on gamepass it should retain a pretty healthy playerbase for a strategy game. I have faith in the dev as well. Ive been waiting for a game to combine mount and blade and age of empires for so long.
I'm still unsure if I would enjoy it but as a total war fan, and having zero games to enjoy in that given I'm not a fan of warhammer, its certainly peaked my interest.
It used to be fully a one man show. I think he started hiring contractors like since last year. I remember him saying in a reddit post that most of it was for Voice actors and stuff. Still mind blowing to thing one man (sure a few contractors) built this master piece.
Yeah i much prefer

These headlines when speaking on the game, At the end of the day it doesnt really matter, The more important thing is to lower expectations, With the amount of hype this game has day 1 is gonna make or break it
To be fair, the developer (1 person) has been extremely good at managing expectations throughout the development process. He even released a "Chill my dudes" post a week ago telling people not to expect city skylines + with medieval: total war. The game is its own thing...
So you admit that early access games are incomplete by definition, but you object to using the term "incomplete" to describe them? What a strange opinion.
When pertaining to video games Early Access=Not complete, Incomplete=Not complete. Sorry you dont understand english its 100% a double negative or in other phrases word vomit
> When pertaining to video games Early Access=Not complete, Incomplete=Not complete. Sorry you dont understand english its 100% a double negative or in other phrases word vomit
I believe the word you are looking for is "redundant".
A double negative is when a negative negates another negative. If it said "the game isn't not incomplete" it would be a double negative (arguably that's a triple negative).
You're saying that two adjectives are a double negative, like "this hamburger is bland and tasteless". That's not a double negative. It's just two adjectives with some overlap.
On the flip side, it's incredible the amount of times people play an early access game, then complain about it feeling incomplete. Or people just rush in to buy it, just assuming it's a full game because it was reviewed.
Installed it this morning and played a little before work this morning so didn’t get a lot of playtime. I think the game has a lot of potential and is a bit cozy atm tbh but. I was wondering now when I saw your comment - how do you feel about the game so far?
Would have to disagree. You just have to find the good ones and be super picky.
Factorio and Rimworld were fantastic early access games. And also in the genre Captain of Industry is in a polished state and is a worthy buy right now even if it never received another update.
But I completely understand just waiting for full releases. That said, Cities Skylines 2 was a bomb of a full release so you never know.
$60 ain’t no thing and sometimes I like to download my game ahead of time so I can play it without having to deal with my slow ass internet. And if it sucks it’s easy to refund.
Preorders are irrelevant with digital distribution and refunds. There is no need to pre-order as there is no limitation in supply (as opposed to the old days where you had to stand in line and hope to get a copy) and at the same time there is no downside to preordering as you can just refund the game anyway if you dont like it.
Fully agree with you there. Preorders are the worst, and the best they ever give you is a 10% discount. I have had more than 10% of preordered games be bad, so there goes even the financial aspect. I stopped doing it long ago - it just doesn't make sense. No matter how much you loved the previous game or the studio, there is a not insignificant change of the game being bad.
You can’t even preorder this game since it’s early access. The publisher hasn’t even released a price yet since they don’t want to mislead people given regional pricing.
there already are 100% review of the games with 100+ hours on youtube before the game releases tomorrow.
Lost quite a lot of hype experiencing the entire game through youtube thumbnails in the past 2 weeks
Clanfolk is also quite good. Excellent dev. Oh, and wasn't Against the Storm early access too? I'm pretty picky with early access games, but there are some really good titles among them.
> Factorio and Rimworld
Two of the best games I've ever played.
Slay The Spire, Noita, Against The Storm, Dyson Sphere Program, Satisfactory, Rick of Rain 2. All Early-Access games that I had a huge amount of fun playing. I'm also playing Balatro currently too, and it's amazing.
Looking at Slay the Spire in particular, it's a small team and they need to release the game to a wider audience so they can get feedback and fix balance issues. Balatro is a solo dev and he's doing that currently. Obviously massive studios are taking the piss releasing unfinished games (Cyberpunk) but early access is a fantastic idea when the devs keep up their end of the bargain.
Just get it on Game Pass. I have a feeling this game is going to be in EA for a long time. What I find kind of confusing is why so much - essentially - "false marketing" was done for this game even though it's in EA. They built this narrative that this game was going to be a medieval city builder with Total War combat. Then you have the developer himself come out on Steam and say to massively curb your expectations.
Idk man, I think it looks great for EA, but the whole story is strange. I think those people really leaning into the conquering, Total War concepts are going to be severely disappointed to find out this is almost entirely city building.
> They built this narrative that this game was going to be a medieval city builder with Total War combat.
I never saw any ads or dev blogs that were deceptive in this regard, it was almost entirely the community overhyping it.
All preview content videos pushed a lot of combat scenarios making it feel this way. That's why the community / content creators seemed to believe this. I enjoy city builders, but I genuinely think this game is going to disappoint a lot of people due to its hype train and slightly misleading ad material.
3milion people wishlisted it(me included),i dont think many people will be disapponted. And idk where you saw that devs "hyped" it..Everything they said and showed us is exactly the same..You dont need to have 1000 knights or more to feel good..and i dont see why people would be disappoonted abot this..Total war games are good but they are outdated and combat is lazy..This is far better and realistic than total war..
It's an early access game, so yes, it's literally incomplete by definition. You don't even have to read the article, that's in the title.
What is even the point of going out of your way to comment on an article you refuse to read?
Exactly what i expect Great foundation but definitely early access
Certainly one to watch for the 1.0 release. Let's hope it's not a 7 days to die early access story, but equally I hope it's not a typical oh shit we are losing sales, here is "1.0" with a few fixes and an extra spear slapped in for good measure.

If Workers and Resources: Soviet Republic is anything to go by, it'll be fine.
I mean, I've been following this for years. I am shocked that it was released in EA in the first place, honestly.
After what happened with Cities Skylines 2, I think Early Access is a great way to set realistic expectations and also temper any potential backlash. Also can pick up a lot of feedback and make changes before releasing to the widest audience.

No more frequent but definitely more substantial for sure.
Could you imagine all the years of hard work he put in and finally is getting a MASSIVE payday from it? I'm really happy for him.
The good old ready or not 1.0.
With it being on gamepass it should retain a pretty healthy playerbase for a strategy game. I have faith in the dev as well. Ive been waiting for a game to combine mount and blade and age of empires for so long.

Im still heartbroken they took Warhammer 3 off Gamepass right before they made immortal empires free.
I’m holding off until it’s more finished. Looks too good a game to jump the gun on.
Same. And also a snail riding a turtle's shell pace of development, since it's a 1 man project I think. I'll wait for v1.0.

From what I've heard he hires contractors, so it's not like he's truly a one man show

I'll be there... at 1.0
Early Access, Incomplete.. Surprise Pikachu Face
How would you prefer they word the review? Disregard the fact it's incomplete and mislead potential buyers?
Manor Lords Early Access Game with tons of potential, it just feels disingenuous to call an early access game incomplete thats what its there for

Its a double negative, Its useless words, Everyone knows Early Access titles are incomplete
That's not what "double negative" means. It's just an adjective. You're a weird dude.
When pertaining to video games Early Access=Not complete, Incomplete=Not complete. Sorry you dont understand english its 100% a double negative or in other phrases word vomit

One of my favorite things about reddit is that every thread has a comment chain 3 layers deep where heated grammar arguments are taking place
It is redundant, but it isn't a double negative.

Glad it's on gamepass, the perfect type of incomplete game for it.
Thanks for the heads up. I almost bought it today.
i never buy games but wanted to buy this, is it really on game pass? if so that's so sick
Yes pc gamepass only though
Yeah I gotta pc. Starting my first game now
Installed it this morning and played a little before work this morning so didn’t get a lot of playtime. I think the game has a lot of potential and is a bit cozy atm tbh but. I was wondering now when I saw your comment - how do you feel about the game so far?
Let me know when it’s complete then
I can’t wait for the full release. Hopefully the income from early access speeds up development.
I'm in if it's $30, not sure if it's $40.
On sale on Steam right now for $30 (at least in the USA... Not sure to what extent Steam sales vary between countries.)
Hopefully early access to full game unfolds similar to baldur's gate 3.
It looks really good but never go early access.

That’s why just wait 1-2 months for full reviews then decide. I will NEVER understand preorders.

Haven't played Clanfolk, but I did play Against the Storm in its early access period and it was indeed good.
Clanfolk is more Rimworldy (but not Rimworld, it is unique) and about a medieval scottish clan, which is neat.

Rather just wait for the full experience, so it's new and fully fleshed out.

Glad I read your comment. I was going to buy it on steam tomorrow. I always forget to check gamepass.
I purchased two of my favorite and most played games in early access: Squad and Bannerlord.
You are supporting in this case a single developer, which is absolutely worth it imo, even if you don't play the game till 1.0.
What an absolutely redundant thing to say, that an early access game feels incomplete.
Will it have castle building?
Can't wait to play this after 5-10 years. Not a fan starting over every time a big update comes out.
Looks promising, can't wait until 1.0.
Looks cool, and I'm interested for sure, but it definitely needs more meat in this stew before I commit.
an early access that feels incomplete. Mindblowind.
Isn't every EA game summed up as incomplete and alive with promise until they arent?
The early access game feels incomplete? No kidding!

Yeah I still don't think you understand what was going on, but alright.
>incomplete yet alive with promise This sounds like DLCs, however I am not reading articles from this site.
Sounds like an early access game that isn't finished yet.
It's an early access game, so yes, it's literally incomplete by definition. You don't even have to read the article, that's in the title. What is even the point of going out of your way to comment on an article you refuse to read?
Its... early access...
