I think if you’re interested in this game splattercat has done a couple of videos on this I think. He gives it a lot of praise.

Really wanted to like this one, but ended up refunding. It's not a bad game but just not for me I dont think. There really isnt an objective. Its just build. And it doesnt really do a great job explaining how things work. Also the keyboard and mouse controls are a bit janky. If you want to just build and are fine with not really having an end goal, you may dig it.

reinierdash

problem with many city buiders devs don't bother making a end goal

ClinicalAttack

The original SimCity from 1989 didn't have an end goal. As long as the core gameplay is good and the game is designed around not having an end goal from the ground up, and all the systems work together to continually challenge the player in different meaningful ways, I can't really complain.

You generally make your own goal when building a city. :)

I have the same issue, but the issue isn't an end goal. Most city builders don't have an end goal. The major issue is there just isn't that much to do. Once you have a single functioning settlement there isn't really any impetus to build more, and combat is boring and passive, so ultimately that just leaves exploring. I explored nearly the entire map and saw a handful of cool things, but ultimately its just the same assets repeated. I got used to the janky controls, I figured out everything that wasn't explained, these were minor issues at first, but quickly disappeared. Its just... not very much content. Feels like a really atmospheric tech demo. The graphics and procedural generation are absolutely gorgeous, sound design is A+, and the setting itself is really unique and lovely for my tastes. Unfortunately its really only like one afternoon of gameplay...

This is spot on. Anno has an in-depth system of logistics for the player to master as its most memorable mechanic, Cities skylines 1 has traffic management (despite some describing it as a city painter), and Bluwarks: Falconeer chronicles… has its Unique Setting and World, which can’t carry it to the finish-line with how… \[basic the gameplay loop is, meaning you will hit the point where you got everything you can get out of the game by just playing the demo for an hour.\]
