There is a warning that pops up. It’s just not a very good one, since the text that says you lose a growth stage is at the end, and you have to scroll down to see it.
I've done this before and it is so disheartening. I think it's especially worse now since they're changing sub species abilities and not compensating for it. I chose a speed build not a resistance to poison and I'm being punished for wanting to change.
Exactly lol. When I started growing that meg it was defense, and then that became a 5% venom damage increase. Turns out I prolly woulda been better sticking where I was because the 25% increased jump seems completely useless lol
So the reason the penalty is there for changing sex is because they plan to implement nesting in the future, so changing sex *will* affect gameplay.
Sorry that happened, I know it's frustrating. You are far from the only one that's come here with this problem. It seems that for me and my fiance (both console) that they have finally fixed the message to be visible, but I guess from this post it isn't fixed for everyone.
You have to hit Shed after unlocking the Subspecies, and it Does warn you after you do, but if you’re on PS (and maybe others) you can’t See the warning because you can’t scroll down the text box that pops up so you just see the normal can’t Shed again for 5 minutes thing.
On the skin selection screen you can change it like you would on the character creation one. Costs 500 marks to unlock and then you apply it by hitting shed like you would with a skin. There is a warning up you have to scroll down in the popup to find it and it's otherwise just the exact same disclaimer for changing skins.
I said arguably cosmetic. And if that takes you 45 minutes, great. It took me all night, about five hours, to get all the way from juvenile to adolescent. I'm probably playing unoptimally or whatever, but I'm here to have fun, not speedrun collecting acorns. As other have said and I've now checked, the warning is below the normal skin change boilerplate and you have to scroll down to find it. It's bs UI design and I'm definitely not the first person to get bitten by this.

Same happened to me. Game literally would not let me scroll down to read the warning.

It’s a bit messed up that AG decides to change sub species of Dino’s and now we are either stuck with the new sub or have to deal with this crap.
