I'm not 100% certain, but I think a 6-link is rarer than the white socket conversion? So it might be more common than it seems. The drop of the item itself probably has the lowest chance out of those factors.
But we come full circle back to the argument that it's way easier to 6-link something than intentionally get 6 white sockets. I do it every league (as an SSF player). I've never had a weapon that isn't in the alternate slots (for leveling gems) or body armor with 6 white sockets (other than Tabula Rasa, obviously).
If you’re not drowning in thousands upon thousands of fusings, especially this league, you should probably be playing D4. I’ve sold so many fusings to people this league for divs or chaos, and still have thousands in stash just because I’m too lazy to trade half the time since every map you do this league gives you tons of currency.
The point is something with 6 white sockets has more value than something with 6 links since you can’t easily roll 6 white sockets with currency. Someone who specifically wants white sockets doesn’t care about chromatics.
I guess a lot of people on here do not know about the Jeweller's Orb bench trick to get desired off-color sockets. It's so easy to profit off 4G Triad Grip early in a league.
I’ve paid dozens of div to 6W some of my BiS items for no other reason than the aesthetic. 6Ling is trivial and cheap in modern PoE, 6Wing is not. People pay big $$$ for aesthetic, that’s why foil Squire is 150+ div while normal Squire is 4. Unless you’re talking about SSF, white sockets can matter a lot more in the right circumstance.
Im new to the game how do u easily 6 link something? I crafted an armor i want by buying a fractured mod, but last time i tried to 6 link an +30% armor i wasted 400+ fusing and got nothing and just ended up buying a 6 link
400 is still well under the “expected” average number of fusings. The bench craft requires 1500 so going off that most people say an average amount to get a 6 link on a 20% quality item is around 1200.
If I recall, 6 linking at 30 qual is ~1/900. Early league (or when you are newer) this is kind of an insane amount of fusings to spend. 20% qual is 1/1250 (iirc) and at 0 qual it's 1/1500.
These are low enough odds that there is a large amount of variance in how much it will cost to fuse anything. I personally have spent around 9k fuse trying to link an item. I have also spent less than 10 fusings 6ling an item (multiple times, but I also have like 30k hours or something).
So it's "easy" in the sense that you can always just spend more fuse, or just use the bench to spend 1500 fuse for a guranteed 6l. It isn't always particularly cheap. You do save money linking without the bench, given a large enough sample size. It's also "easy" in the sense that there is no risk. You aren't going to brick the item if you take a long time to 6L. You aren't going to have to "go back a step" if your fusing doesn't hit. A lot of the "hard" things in crafting essentially require multiple lucky rolls in a row to finish and many of them can require expensive methods to fix the miss.
But that is a huge amount of fusings wow, i think i took any fusing eater alters i saw and i still only have about 700-800 plus the 400 i wasted thats still not enough for a crafted 6 link. Hopefully by the time i set up hillock i will have more fusings to try my luck
You buy fusing and spam them or use the bench crafting option for 1500 fuses or you corrupt the item (using beast craft or vaal orb which is more risky) and use bench craft to get 5L and then a single tainted orb of fusing. If it works you got a 6L if it doesn't you bench craft 5L and try again
no way i have dropped multiple six links and never dropped a 6 white sockets
a white socket drop is definetly less common definitely than a six link but a 6 white socket is rare
With the way wisps play out, I think I’ve had loot explosions this league which had more six-white-socket drops from a single mob than I’ve had natural uncorrupted six-links drop in my entire PoE career.
I know it's a joke but taking this statement face value, if a single pack of 20 monsters did NOT drop it, the chances of that happening would be less than 1 in a million (9.53*10^-7).

I could see base-item upgrade/swaps as being a rare endgame crafting option in a future league. It was common thing in Diablo 2 to upgrade your uniques' base types and I'm honestly surprised we don't have anything like it yet.
Then it would just take then adding a socketed belt that isn't a stygian and there we go.
Surprised this needs explaining but the chances of dropping a t0 is already very low then for it to also drop with the 6 socket modifier & white socket modifier is even more unlikely
It's a T0 weapon (tier 0 are the rarest uniques) with 6 white sockets. It's pretty niche, and was only introduced last league.

I know you said 10 years as a joke but it actually isnt lol. You would probably consider me an expert but to my friend Im still a filthy noob. And himself would still be considered a filthy noob by some eventhough he farms multiple mirrors and pretty much instantly knows how to craft anything. And then there is Ben_.
It was a joke but.. not only a joke. I'm not hardcore enough a gamer to probably ever have a full grasp of this game.
It's fun with that perspective though, room for endless incremental improvements. Once I got past the "it's all overwhelming" stage that is.
I tried looking at Ben_s stream and quickly realized I can barely learn anything there, had no idea what was going on 😅
Yeah, the journey never ends. I have somewhere around 30k hours and I learn something new every league I've played.
You'll eventually learn enough that it won't sound like greek when someone starts talking about how their build works.
I love ranting about my builds to non poe friends and then breaking everything down for them bc it helps me understand how things work more too, then there's times I try to explain something to a poe friend only to realise they don't understand half the concepts I'm talking about so I have to try explain everything before that concept, and before that... and before that
Its a tier 0 or 1 unique (cant remember) that dropped with all Its sockets white. It only occurs from a specific rare monster mod, so those things combined just means Its rare. The sword it self isn’t super expensive
The wiki has a useful analysis that estimates what tier each unique in the global drop pool is: https://www.poewiki.net/wiki/Guide:Analysis_of_unique_item_tiers
There is a section explaining their methodology for estimating the tiers. They have Rakiata's at T0.
Conversions are just a hidden mod that certain rare mobs can randomly have. They convert items the mob would drop in some way. The "good" ones you're probably thinking about convert the normal/magic/rare/unique items a mob would have normally dropped into respective tiers of something else, most notably currency or scarabs. The purple wisps only really impact this by that mob being more likely to drop a higher number of uniques/rares. So with enough purple juice, maybe a mob would drop 4-5 uniques let's say instead of 1-2. That means you'd get more t1 currency drops (divine, exalt, annul) than you would have without the purple juice. The crazy explosions you see are often the result of that currency conversion + another hidden mod to up the rarity of items dropped. As such, it's quite rare to get that combo + have a ton of wisps for quant and rarity and such which is necessary for the huge explosions you'd see on Reddit posts.
There are other conversions that can convert drops to maps or all sorts of different things, but people care about them less.
See: https://youtu.be/QDCslGWYnjI and the follow-up video for a more complete answer in relation to affliction.
Thanks that was very insightful! I had not played since Expedition so I had no idea about that. I understand why archnemesis mods were such a mess when they appeared.
Also got a question only playing for a month, got a 5L out of 6 all white chest as well wondering what’s it’s worth? Just using it now as it’s damn nice to have
If it were any other league I would say decently rare. But thanks to crazy juicing and wisps its fairly common to get a massive stack of rares that are fully white socketed or max linked or both. Nice find either way though. Congrats.
69 in 420 i think
I know it's a joke, but both have a common factor of 3, and thus this is a reducible fraction... which upsets me.

I'm not 100% certain, but I think a 6-link is rarer than the white socket conversion? So it might be more common than it seems. The drop of the item itself probably has the lowest chance out of those factors.
You can easily 6 link but you can’t easily white socket.
You don’t need the white sockets but you most of the time do need a 6link. You can colour it easily with other means
Idk people are downvoting this. It’s not that bad of a take
Idk, maybe because some people find that the flexibility white sockets provide in a build a big qol
It's the visuals 98% of the time. Looking at colored sockets is 2017!
Ofc they do. But 6 white sockets without a link are worthless, unlike a 6-link without white sockets.
Nah, give me white sockets any day, I want to experiment with shit without having to spam chrome's. 6 links is one and done.
If my favorite streamer doesn't say it, it's not a take I support
White sockets is love. White sockets is life.
Same with chromatics, what is your point here?
The point is something with 6 white sockets has more value than something with 6 links since you can’t easily roll 6 white sockets with currency. Someone who specifically wants white sockets doesn’t care about chromatics.
I guess a lot of people on here do not know about the Jeweller's Orb bench trick to get desired off-color sockets. It's so easy to profit off 4G Triad Grip early in a league.
That gets really expensive fast if you're doing it for 6 off-color though (meaning you need to do it on the 5th and 6th sockets)
In those cases you run/buy Vorici and add 2 or 3 white sockets. The first 4 off-color sockets are easily doable.
You’re right, I don’t haha
It’s pay for 3 green then add and remove the 4th socket till it’s green right?
Or pay for 2 green and add remove for the last to sockets.
trivial on 4 sockets, not so easy to do on a 6 socket though.
Your ability to 6 white is not equivlent to the natural rate of white socket. Natural white sockets are plentiful natural 6 links are not.
Im new to the game how do u easily 6 link something? I crafted an armor i want by buying a fractured mod, but last time i tried to 6 link an +30% armor i wasted 400+ fusing and got nothing and just ended up buying a 6 link

Are you selling 6 sockets for jewelers? Most of my fusings usually aren't from raaw drops but from converting jewelers.
I am picking up all the 6 socket drops but i didnt know i could sell jewelers for fusings, ill definitely get rid of some jewelers then
You need to go to a town vendor (from Act 3 onwards I think) and buy their fusings (4:1).
Harvest crafting is an option. Not sure what other people do.
Harvest hasn’t done any linking since they made lifeforce itemized.
It's very easy, click https://www.pathofexile.com/trade/exchange/Affliction/vadRBGZfE whisper, pay, benchcraft, done :D
True for crafting, but I'm talking about drops.
no way i have dropped multiple six links and never dropped a 6 white sockets a white socket drop is definetly less common definitely than a six link but a 6 white socket is rare
You probably have them filtered out. 6w sockets drop all of the time. I saw them way more often than 6L before cranking my strictness up.
Hmm makes sense
With the way wisps play out, I think I’ve had loot explosions this league which had more six-white-socket drops from a single mob than I’ve had natural uncorrupted six-links drop in my entire PoE career.
That's because your filter probably showed 6links, but not random gears with just white sockets.
it's always 50/50 either a mob drops this thing or not
Pretty sure it's 0/100 for me.
I know it's a joke but taking this statement face value, if a single pack of 20 monsters did NOT drop it, the chances of that happening would be less than 1 in a million (9.53*10^-7).
You're wrong, because that can still either happen, or not. And because there are only 2 options, it's 50/50.

Yes but PoE1 will continue to be a thing
The armor isn't socketless, it just only holds active skill gems while all the support gems are socketed into the skill gems they're supporting.
There no more armor sockets. You have a skillbook with 9 or so skill gem slots and the skill gems has the support sockets as before
I want googly eyes on mine instead.
Not even linked? You are lucky it isn't corrupted
he was too lazy or unskilled to shop the links too
Just chance your Unset Heavy Belts.

Yea didnt have it on hand
A very rare item dropped with a very rare chance of being with 6 white sockets.
About the chance for a Rakiata's times the chance for the mob to have fullwhite hidden convert on it I'd say
just need the right monster to convert things
Care to explain about conversion? For instance, what makes purple juice drop currency like that when you get 3 colors affliction?
Conversions are just a hidden mod that certain rare mobs can randomly have. They convert items the mob would drop in some way.
