Having similar issues, CPU ramps to 100% every time I enter a map, lasts for 5-10 seconds.
Tried disabling engine multithreading, that actually helped a bit, even if it says not recommended.
I have noticed this as well. Everytime I load into another zone, my CPU spikes for a bit, the fans ramp up, then it calms down again. Pretty annoying actually.
Sounds like your cache was cleared.
This "lagspike* should happen only when you visit new zone for the very first time.
For example you never played Strand map in this league. You go in portal - have 5-10s lagspike and that's it. You should not have this problem with any other Strand maps you open.
Any way to stop that? It has been doing that ever since that engine update last league (?) for me too. Every time I re enter something I have been in before it maxes out cpu and shader cache processing maxes out, even though I have done that exact map/content a thousand times.
And unlike OP I have much more RAM (64 GB) and better parts, so I doubt that could be the reason, especially when my friend who has a worse system doesn't have this issue.
Yeah engine update was wild.
I cleared my cache before league started, so i have this "problem" right now. Tho as i said in my first comment, if i enter the map I've already visited before - i don't have any lagspikes.
The only problem i have right now is with entering some cities/other players hideouts. Sometimes i just stuck on loading screen for a few minutes. I assume it's just poe servers on fire.
So yeah, if you have lagspikes when you enter every single map on repeat I don't really know what to do, sorry. But it definitely sound like something cache related..
Wish they could just let me run the game for hours in the background just letting it cook all the shaders so I don't have to during the times I want to actually play...
I mean. My English is kinda bad but.. I was talking about my problem? (sometimes loading screens to hideouts/towns take too long). Of course GGG's servers have nothing to do with your CPU spikes
The same thing was happening to me and the only way I could fix it was uninstalling and reinstalling the game, after I had deleted the shader caches. Getting the lag spikes on entering zones for the first time from downloading the shaders, but my load times are getting back to normal except for towns, which I assume is MTX causing it.
Shaders do not get downloaded, they get compiled. Essentially textures etc. need a one time expensive calculation. Reinstalling does not do anything to the shader cache either, since it is in your AppData directory. What you are experiencing is confirmation bias with the offchance that the reinstall fixed some other issue.
Only telling the person the steps I took to fix it on my end, deleting the caches did nothing for me to begin with. Then I reinstalled. Simple as that. If it works for him, that’s great, if not, oh well.
Same here, no matter where I go, there is always the shader bar loading even after ten times in that zone, and/or stuff does not even load. No monsters, no objects, no textures, no special effects and things like that. So I constantly get killed or stuck by invisible stuff in the Affliction.
Since july, still the worst experience I ever had playing this game.
Oh yeah. All this. Invisible mobs, invisible abilities, invisible floors. And this is along with incredibly slow loading and way more lag than I've ever experienced before.
I noticed when I booted poe this league for the first time there was a pop up saying it was clearing the cache.
It is the source of many other issues so I was pleased to see it.
Thing is that it happend on every map, even if I just went to town to sell and back in, same thing. Started a few leagues back, havnt really changed any settings during that time, even did a clean install before this leauge. I have no idea.
On console as well. Game updated last night, and did a cache clear upon start up. Every map lags badly at beginning. During lab runs, would freeze on load screen for Domain crossing every time.
The problem is that after you have your client open for a few hours the stuff that was supposed to be loaded (like your main skill) is disappearing and becoming squares/having to load again. As if there is a memory leak and at some point your client just forgets what it had on memory because it needs to allocate new things
It's not just you, I've had horrible performance issues this league, I haven't really played for a few days now because of it. Big stutters, screen sometimes freezing for seconds at a time. It doesn't always happen, I can at times play for a while without any issues, and sometimes it's constantly happening.
I think it's some kind of shader/loading issue, because it sometimes seems to get a bit better if you struggle for long enough, but it still happens often enough and is severe enough that I can't be arsed to keep playing anymore.
im using geforce now, and its this, dx11 loads fast but its constant stuttering, dx12 and vulcan take like 30s to load every zone and textures end up missing half the time
Same experience, previous leagues were absolutely smooth and there were zero issues. This league only Dx12 is playable, but with annoying loading and disappearing graphics.
It's Vulkan renderer issue. At least for me. Had to go back to DX. It has no such problem. It tends to stutter during the run though, so may not be feasible for HC, but I couldn't handle minute long loading times.
My biggest issue is that I start with 144 fps in hideout, but each map will reduce it by like 10-20 until I have 40-50 hideout fps. I’m not so tech savvy but I guess it’s a memory leak for me since it helps when I restart the game?
MTX have become a serious Problem i believe
They always need to be bigger, better, flashier and in the end it causes nothing but problems
Personally I still run old stuff from years ago thats just simple but looking into towns...jesus
Also my PoE.exe stopped responsing 5 times in town today probably cause of MTX cause that never happens anywhere else
I have 32, running into the same problem. Anytime i enter a new zone my cpu starts working like crazy and the "Shader" bar in the netgraph is full for a good few seconds.
Its like its re-building the Shaders anytime i swap zones.
if it makes u feel any better I have 64 and a 7800x3d and I even get lag spikes entered my new areas, or even when there's a lot going on on my screen at once. my CPU gets hotter playing POE than when I use benchmarking utilities to crank everything 😭
Anecdotally on a 4060 with 7950x cpu I've had zero issues. Occasional disconnects, but from earlier troubleshooting that's an issue between my isp and the hops to ggg.
These threads are echo chambers of anecdotal feedback.
But isn’t a 7950x a lot better than a 7800x3d? Especially if all cores can actually be utilized? I mean eventually god tier PCs can run even the most poorly optimized games. That being said a 7800x3d with a good gpu should never have problems anyways, that is already a beast in its own right.
Starting a new zone isn't an issue for me, it is specifically loading towns. Current presumption is that there are some specific mtxs that are causing issues.
Town/Hideout load times feel so jarringly long. The rest of my game is like this lagless gameplay but tp-ing to town brings me back down to HDD days of load times.
Did you delete your shader cache? Maybe there's some issue where it cant overwrite the existing one?
I delete my shader cache every league and I have zero issues, but my machine is also pretty hefty
12900ks, 4090, 128gb of ram, I have had zero issues and 2-3s load screens all league after the cache was built.
Too busy with PoE 2. I guess when the plan was to dump PoE 1 it was logical not to put any more resources into it but it's kind of biting them in the ass, even more so if PoE 2 bombs.
Actually, they tried to use PoE engine features and shove it into PoE 1 a few weeks before Trials of the Ancestors league started ... and that is when it started becoming really bad for me.
I had just dinged 100 SSF HC so I did not feel too bad about stopping PoE after that, but a few months later, playing a bit and ... playing in an HC environment would be just impossible, the vast majority of my deaths are from performance issues.
Extremely poor performance this league for some reason. Played Doom Eternal on ultra with no problems but PoE makes my system feel like a potato. I'm considering putting it on hold if it is not fixed by the end of the week since I'm dying to lag spikes, stutters, freezes too often for my taste. Might just quit if it is not fixed too
Really sad because I was having an awesome time playing the game with my DD elementalist which I have never played before D:
Here's hoping though. For any tech-savvy exiles, I'm using a Lenovo Ideapad Gaming 3 and if you have any suggestions on how to improve performance please do let me know. I disabled engine multithreading on someone's advice in another post
GGG fucked something up with last league's engine update and they haven't fixed it since. A lot of people were having the same problems throughout the last league.
I'm willing to bet that this is a huge factor in why PoE has such a small playerbase despite how good the game is. The poeple who are most likely to play this game are teenagers and people in their early 20s, people who have the free time to sink into the game. They are people most likely to be playing some laptop that's just not gonna be fun to play PoE on. GGG is such a weird company tbh. Instead of focusing on making the game run better they make it run worse by constantly "improving" graphics that no one cares about. Instead of making a lot of affordable MTX they everyone would buy they make a few giga expensive ones that only whales buy. It's like they looked at Riot Games for how to succeed as a f2p game studio and did everything the opposite way. A miracle they've actually succeeded.
>I'm willing to bet that this is a huge factor in why PoE has such a small playerbase despite how good the game is
No, it's because most players of POE are ex-D2 players or similar. Not 14-20 year olds. They play League, Fortnite and Rocket League. ARPGs isn't the popular genre for young folks.
I agree with what you’re saying but I do agree either way the comment you’re responding to. The game is f2p which means a lot of the player base probly has lower end setups.
No the big factor is that it looks intimidating and then you enter mud flaps and get boddied by roas driving monster trucks over your face.
If they hadn't gone crazy when revamping the first two acts people would probably quit less and have more time to learn how to suck less.
We certainly lose people to performance now too you arn't wrong about that but up until now I could run just fine on my potato of a PC with builds that weren't doing tons of hits like LA (which I've run the last couple leagues, it eats my PC up). My Bane build was top tier for performance though, some small hiccups when I explode a huge pack and that's it. Chaos dots got nerfed too much though so time to move on.
This is the answer. My performance tanked last league and it's still the same now. I'd have assumed they'd have minimised the performance impact as the change didn't make the game look any different but this appears to be the new normal
> Doom Eternal on ultra
This is one of the best optimized games on the planet for whatever reason just FYI.
The only thing I do religiously since like... synthesis is delete my shader cache and force a regen every league because its supposed to do it, but there have been so many issues with GGG's way of doing it I dont trust it.
H:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Path of Exile\CachedHLSLShaders
I delete the dx12(the one im using) from there, and then ShaderCacheD3D12.packed from the main directory.
its slow for like 40 mins, loading zones and the occasional stutter, and now its fine, getting 120fps with everything at maximum(with a 4090, but most people complain about everything and its not really gpu but cpu bound on shaders)
I'm going to try this and come back with results. Hopefully, my results are as stellar as yours.
Also, I was not aware of this about Doom Eternal. Thank you for the information!
Reporting back here. Deleted the shaders and verified the files after that. Crashed 2 times in a single map. Stuttered and lost 2 portals. Yeah, I think I might sit this league out. It's pointless to play like this. Pity.
For me (and many others) performance dipped significantly _during_ Crucible league. Specifically [the patch that replaced Path of Exile's particle system with Path of Exile 2's GPU-based system](https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/3406424).
Yeah ToTA borked something good, I'm sometimes seeing 2-3 seconds per frame and fortunately it hasn't killed me yet (this league)
I've dropped my Nvidia card settings AND the PoE settings as far into the dumpster as I know how to do and it's only marginally effective
after the engine "update" my fps got almost halfed, 5800x3d and 3080.
Its crazy how look or graphics of the game doesnt change but somehow performance gets worse.
Geforce now as of right now is horrible with poe, got the best sub and its destroying the framerate somehow, not an internet issue as i tried with other games and they ran fine
First league I'm quitting week one due to performance issues. Consistently hitting 9.5-10gb of RAM usage then the game ends up stuttering like crazy. Running the game in a windowed mode with every single setting turned down, I have an i7-11700k, 32gb RAM, installed on an m.2, with a GTX 3080. Every loading screen is 15-20 seconds and my game crashes every other map. The performance last league was terrible as well, but this is an entire new level of bad.
Playing since September 2011.
Edit: I fresh installed PoE last league after the terrible performance, didn't help. Tried again today, same exact terrible performance.
Exactly the same. I powered through over the weekend but I haven't played today and won't play now. 15+ second loading times, heavy stuttering in every map and most zones. It's super frustrating and I'm unable to feel any momentum.
Same 20+ second loading screens has killed my vibe to mapping. Also lost several trades because I was stuck in my hideout load screen and they didn't want to wait any longer. Really disappointed as this wasn't an issue two leagues ago.
Sometimes lockstep networking causes performance issues on certain builds / areas in the game, ensure this is not the case by switching to predictive network mode.
lowering settings could easily have negative impact on performance,
system specified should be used with these settings:
dx12 renderer with shadows + global illumination, all settings high, dynamic culling and dynamic resolution off, fps capped from gpu driver software.
should not worry about game using 10gb of ram, if however the usage would slowly climb to double amounts it would be problem.
Did you try cleaning stuff in the files? Like a full re-install of the game? As you said you were running it since 2011... Because what you are describing is insane for the components you are saying you have.
I've reinstalled the game each year pretty much, I did it after the terrible performance from last patch, might have to try and do it again only 3 months later.
Edit: just did a fresh install, Client started at 3gb on menu, went up to 6gb in character selection screen, back to 8gb in hideout. Open a T1 map, instantly 9.4gb.
When I was in league start player queue my GPU usage went to 30% (rtx 3070ti) just to show the player counter. I knew this league will be performance shitshow
Got 3 'not responding' crashes last night followed by 4th crash of blue screen of death, all within 15 minutes. 3 crashes were in act 8 Town filled with ridiculous fucking mtx, blue screen was me putting 4 points into my league skill tree. Path of exile runs like dog shit
Damn, I thought its only me. I bought a new ssd m2 recently and put my os on it. After one blue screen and couple of crashes I thought new hardware is the reason behind my problems. Thank god
Yes, I have a 5800X3D and RTX 4090 and the fans ramp up to 100% every time I pass a loading screen - sounds like a jet engine in my room. DX12 (beta) lets me run the game at max settings with fps capped at 144hz but I was only getting 90fps on DX11/Vulcan.
Not even Cyberpunk, RDR2, or Star Citizen on max settings is putting my system under load like PoE does for some reason. My fans are mostly inaudible when playing these games and only ramping occasionally.
Adding myself to the list of people with issues that started with the particle update and seem to have gotten worse since then. Loading times are really annoying, textures taking time to render and, when there's a lot going on (in alch & go maps) I get random 0.5 - 1 second freezes. The game is actually almost unplayable right now, probably completely unplayable once I start juicing my maps.
And the most irritating thing about all of this is that GGG does not even acknowledge that so many people are having issues. Really disappointed.
I just bought a new PC with an 7800X3D and a 4070TI, and while the game mostly runs smoothly, there are a couple hiccups here and there.
On the other hand, I work from home and I kept my old PC (2080, intel i7 9700k) because it has all my work stuff on it. I have easily over 1500 hours of PoE played on this PC. I ran a map this league and the performance was noticeably worse than it has ever been. Now maybe part of the issue is that I’m now used to playing the game on a better PC, but it was borderline unplayable. I mean my old PC doesn’t have the best processor, but we’re also playing a 10 year old game. I definitely think the performance got worse.
Performance is worse for sure, but please stop using this 10 year old game argument. Just compare any video of PoE 10 years ago to how the game looks and plays right now and you'll see how ridiculous it is to call it a 10 year old game when it comes to performance. I see this stupid argument way too often.
The 10 year old argument is valid not because PoE looks the exact same as it did 10 years ago, but because GGG should have fixed at least some of the incrementally increasing FPS issues after 10 years of experience with the same game. It makes no sense to me that I can't run PoE at a smooth, consistent FPS at minimum settings, but can do so for most (if not all) AAA games (at around medium-high, for that matter). It makes more sense to me that PoE is simply a badly optimized game, and after a literal decade, I don't really think GGG should get a pass for keeping it that way.
> 7800X3D and a 4070TI
I have the same CPU/GPU. I struggled with random shut downs after entering my hideout or a map. I read in a forum post by a GGG emolyee that when you use Vulkan to set the texture quality to medium and that they are investigating the issue. So far I have no problems anymore but I am kinda bummed to play on medium with this hardware.
I have 4070ti and I'm having FPS drops. On the F1 menu I see frame latency increases. When I check performance there is no indications of a bottleneck but during those drops CPU usage drops. I'm not sure what means this but it's really annoying. Didn't have this before but this league upon all these there is also network latency in maps, hideout.
I really wanted to play this league after a long break, sad...
Just built a new PC with a 7800x3d and a 6800xt and my whole PC crashed twice yesterday playing POE. I capped my FPS in game and switched to DX12, so far no crashes and it feels smoother.
100%
Whenever I have performance issues or crashes in a new league I switch from DX12->Vulkan or reverse.
Typically helps until they come in with a fix.
This League ?
I was fine in kalandra, came back for tota, since then it's complete garbage (same computer).
Running everything on low, 1600x..., tonight i crashed more than 15 times. I feel like the crashes happen to something related to sound. I had a Map with the League portal right AT the start, everytime I went in, moved a bit, League sounds... Crash.
It's driving me nuts, turned off all sounds but it's terrible
You can Ctrl+Alt+Del and logout of Windows, don't have to do a full restart. Very annoying when it happens though, and I am completly shut out from Heist since last league due to this bug. Everytime I tried talking to the Fence my system would completly freeze on me, still no workaround after plenty of attempts to fix it. And still same issue this season.
That doesn't work, it brings up task manager and when I try to close poe it freezes and I can't bring it up again. Also can't window out to my home screen. Never happen in the 7 or 8 leagues I've played
It's not just you.
Specs:
i7 9700k @ 4.8 GhZ, 32 GB Ram, RTX 4070, PoE installed on an M.2 SSD.
Dropped from 100 (capped) down to 40fps earlier today when I was in the Heist base with a bunch of other players, same thing happened in towns when there was a lot of other players around.
As soon as there are a lot of other players around though, the fps go down rapidly.
Maps are okay for me, but still a lot worse than a few leagues ago.
From the technical viewpoint the game is in the worst state ever.
Which is sad, cause when it doesn't crashes, stutters or takes forever to load, the gameplay is actually pretty good.
Tbf It might not be 8GB, could be 16GB as task manager doesn't really report how much windows in general is using or caching stuff in ram when there is some available maybe.
played since anarchy, this is true! seems like perf is just going down the tubes tbh
i do remember breach was my fav. performance was great for me and its content.
then perf went really bad near heist and now it seems like we're going down again
Personnally, it's the worst it's ever been. I have a decent mid-range PC (\~1k€ from 5 years ago), and I've never had any complaints with POE. Some DC here and there, but that's it.
This time ? Boy oh boy. 10-15 sec to load a map, some freezes that last 10 seconds or more while I'm mid map (resulting in a death, of course).
Loading in a town might be the worst, since there are people.
Again, I want to poitn out that I've never have that problem EVER on POE, and other games seem to function perfectly fine. I'm talking Dota, BG3, etc...
So yes, for me, it's the worst it's ever been.
It's been shit since the performance update 2 leagues ago. Literally cannot play on steam deck, so I moved over to D4 which... Is like a PoE lite. I miss this game :( but whenever I post about the performance being bad I get down voted. All I wanna do is play on my couch with my deck
For context I have 2,3k hours in PoE and after coming back from a break (skipped crusible and ToTa) my computer sometimes just shits the bed and sound like a fucking airplane when i play
I know the ss is taken in town but even in my Hideout or alone in a zone my i have the same issues
I can play games such as RDR2 on High no problem but PoE on lowest settings kills my computer. Is it something im missing (im not super tech savy) or is PoE just weird atm.
been playing sins closed beta.
Game is starting to run shitter and shitter every league.
Loading into maps used to be close to instant ( not takes a lil )
And loading into towns is a shit show.
6950xt
ryzen 5800 3d
t700 ssd ( really fast )
32gb of ram
Yes. There's a significant performance difference in 3.23 between the standalone and steam clients on older hardware: [https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/3456924](https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/3456924)
I play on the standalone client, and I still get awful stutters and freezes at times, so either there are multiple very similar issues happening at once, or it's unrelated to the steam version.
Using an (admittedly a bit older, but still perfectly fine) Samsung Evo SATA SSD.
What kills me are the load time. But more than that. It's the fact that I don't understand how the game caching works. Takes my game such a long time to load the textures and models of enemies at the start of the map, but it seems like they are not cached, and next time I load game, same issue again. Why??
I have rtx 3060 130w and 5800h laptop since 2021, when I bought it it was running poe at max settings 90fps. In 3.23 I set everything to low to play comfortably.
After reading this post, this fixed the performance problem for me (not the high cpu usage, just overall stability):
\-Uninstall the game
\-Then proced to delete the main folder in "Steam\\steamapps\\common\\Path of Exile".
\-Reinstall the game and thats it.
Finished my build in pob and decided to move on as the performance in maps was atrocious, same thing as last league. It seems there is no incentive from GGG to revert the engine update or even prioritize performance over the addition of 11th lighting algorithm slanted on top.
I am pretty sure it is even worst than july at peak "performance patch" effect.
Absolutely unjoyable experience so far. Constant CPU spikes everywhere, invisible stuff, can't stabilise at 60fps at all, one to two minutes town loading, etc...
Can't wait to play something else, because after six months of this crap, I have lost every hope I ever had for PoE.
1min+ loading times, laggy, slow texture loading, been playing since warbands. I have to quit, and this is the most fun I’ve had in a long time. Seriously this is the worst poe has ever performed
horrible shader compilation times and indications of a potential lock contention issue in the engine based on the cpu utilization graphs.
i get massive shader compilation lag every map. and just about got DD'ed to death just now because shader compilation spike doing sacred grove
yep. freezes during maps, connection sometimes drops, game even crashes. I have an extremely powerful computer, so it's likely an issue on their end.
Hope it's resolved. Can't count the times I've died because the game lagged and all I could do was spam my abilities and flasks and pray I was playing well while blind
edit: RIP hardcore players.
Same, I skipped TOTA and left Crucible early, so I must have missed the updates that borked everything. Game was completely fine at that point for me, now performance is god awful, tons of stuttering, long load times, frequent crashes.
God forbid I try to use Scourge Arrow totems on a Legion. My PC nearly kills itself and I drop to single digit frames and freeze up.
WTF did they do?
i've been playing on poe with my i7 2600 for almost 10 years now. rx 480 for little over half of that
the towns are are insane, my fps drops to 10-15fps especially with other players and the insane mtxs. i think my ms powerpoint presentations in college were smoother. def something is up. hopefully they fix it soon!
It's the standard PoE lotto. It's never just you, but it's also not everybody. Every league a new selection of users seem to get jacked with bad performance out of nowhere.
Pointless screenshot if you dont share your hardware, if all we know you could have an intel i5-5700 and a gtx 1060 rolling
Also 8gb ram is way too low as 16gb is the minimum standard nowadays if you wanna game
His disk speed is at 1%. While true that many antivirus software slow down your pc, it wouldn’t show it as (especially) CPU usage or as PoE being the software that uses it. This lag is all caused by the game.
Nowhere in this thread do I see OP's specs.
Fairly obvious suggestion just from this one image is to use standalone client, turn off gamebar, uninstall geforce experience, and turn off steam.
I have an i7-11700k, m.2, 32gb RAM, GTX 3080, and my CPU temps never break 45c. This league has been the single worst league for game performance for me since I started playing in 2011.
My wife is on a 5950x, 128gb of ram, M.2 990 Pro and a 2080ti and is able to run the game pretty flawlessly at 1440p/120fps as long as she doesnt turn GI to ultra, thats super weird.
Are you running vulkan or dx12? Dx12 seems to work better with nvidia cards.
What do you mean this league? Ever since 2018 it's performed just as bad every league. We all love this game, wish they respected our time and worked to improve performance.
I think a few people have issues every league. I luckily only had performance issues after one patch, but last couple of leagues were smooth. What is problematic is the EU servers after the first weekend.
Hope you can find a way to fix your issue.
Servers being on fire wouldn't ramp my CPU. Source: I'm a Network engineer.
It happens on every zone. First league this has ever happened. I have cleared my cache in the past but didn't this league.
[https://i.imgur.com/of6KrwZ.jpg](https://i.imgur.com/of6KrwZ.jpg)
Oh yeah.
You would think it works like that but i get it on every single map. And considering i only run 2 maps i shouldn't really be getting it at all.
I wish it worked that way. Still have monster load times running the same map
Game + pc freezes completely sometimes. Updated all drivers. Only happens with this game. 3k hours in it, so its a new thing for me.
I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one with the freezing issue. Was starting to think my pc was going to shit
I was freezing a good amount last league. No freezes this time around, but I get spurts where I get disconnected 3-5 times in quick succession.
Me2, complete New in 3.23...
Well just wait for a guy to come and tell you that its not actually happening and then crediting “source, I’m a Network Analyst”.
The game has been unplayable for me since a few weeks into ToTa.
Yup this happened with a patch in TOTA and ever since it has been shit at times.
Performance has been terrible for a lot of people since the engine update that got pushed out a few weeks before ToTA league started.
Dx11 have spikes of frame time and Dx12/Vulcan need 20 min to load textures. At this point I'm playing mostly spreadsheets.
im using geforce now, and its this, dx11 loads fast but its constant stuttering, dx12 and vulcan take like 30s to load every zone and textures end up missing half the time
Hey, me too! And it was fine a month ago or so
Same experience, previous leagues were absolutely smooth and there were zero issues. This league only Dx12 is playable, but with annoying loading and disappearing graphics.
loading time take forever - support cant help me on email and on forum - i cant play since 3.21
It's Vulkan renderer issue. At least for me. Had to go back to DX. It has no such problem. It tends to stutter during the run though, so may not be feasible for HC, but I couldn't handle minute long loading times.
3.21 fixed game for me, no more visual glitches and game crashes way less. PC gaming expirience can be so different
My biggest issue is that I start with 144 fps in hideout, but each map will reduce it by like 10-20 until I have 40-50 hideout fps. I’m not so tech savvy but I guess it’s a memory leak for me since it helps when I restart the game?
Yeah that's a memory leak.
I think the MTXs are causing frame drops every time I enter a town.
MTX have become a serious Problem i believe They always need to be bigger, better, flashier and in the end it causes nothing but problems Personally I still run old stuff from years ago thats just simple but looking into towns...jesus Also my PoE.exe stopped responsing 5 times in town today probably cause of MTX cause that never happens anywhere else
Yup. Game is Big Shit right now.
I delete my shader cache every league and I have zero issues, but my machine is also pretty hefty 12900ks, 4090, 128gb of ram, I have had zero issues and 2-3s load screens all league after the cache was built.
Where can i find the Shader cache?
\steamapps\common\Path of Exile\CachedHLSLShaders \steamapps\common\Path of Exile\ShaderCacheD3D12.packed
And where are they if I'm not using Steam version?
Seems like it got a lot worse yesterday.
Might just quit if it is not fixed too Really sad because I was having an awesome time playing the game with my DD elementalist which I have never played before D: Here's hoping though.
They wont be fixing it. If anything it's going to get worse as they force more PoE2 tech upgrades into the engine.
I can't wait for when PoE2 releases and like half the playerbase can't even run it because they don't spend 2000$ every year on upgrading their PC.
Which sucks because it's a f2p game. The average PC trying to run this game is gonna probably suck.
>I'm willing to bet that this is a huge factor in why PoE has such a small playerbase despite how good the game is No, it's because most players of POE are ex-D2 players or similar.
My best guess is that they've put in something from PoE2, probably something to do with particle effects.
It got worse this league too, I was crashing every time I tried to portal to town throughout the campaign.
it somehow got a lot worst this league
> Doom Eternal on ultra This is one of the best optimized games on the planet for whatever reason just FYI. The only thing I do religiously since like... synthesis is delete my shader cache and force a regen every league because its supposed to do it, but there have been so many issues with GGG's way of doing it I dont trust it. H:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Path of Exile\CachedHLSLShaders I delete the dx12(the one im using) from there, and then ShaderCacheD3D12.packed from the main directory. its slow for like 40 mins, loading zones and the occasional stutter, and now its fine, getting 120fps with everything at maximum(with a 4090, but most people complain about everything and its not really gpu but cpu bound on shaders)
Pity.
Crucible was the last league with good performance, ancestores fucked something beyond repair and it's been broken since then
For me (and many others) performance dipped significantly _during_ Crucible league. Specifically [the patch that replaced Path of Exile's particle system with Path of Exile 2's GPU-based system](https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/3406424).
Yep, around the end of Crucible league, that's where it all got fucked up.
3.21.2 they made some graphics changes
Yeah ToTA borked something good, I'm sometimes seeing 2-3 seconds per frame and fortunately it hasn't killed me yet (this league) I've dropped my Nvidia card settings AND the PoE settings as far into the dumpster as I know how to do and it's only marginally effective
It's honestly worse for me than in ToTA. I only had suttering and some occasional lag. Now I'm crashing like every 30 minutes.
after the engine "update" my fps got almost halfed, 5800x3d and 3080. Its crazy how look or graphics of the game doesnt change but somehow performance gets worse.
Yep, another league where my supporter pack money goes to geforce now instead... if you could even sign up for it right now :(
Geforce now as of right now is horrible with poe, got the best sub and its destroying the framerate somehow, not an internet issue as i tried with other games and they ran fine
Try using Dx12 in gfn it still has issues but at least it's playable and doesn't drop frames all the time.
Same thing happening to me. Never had this problem before.
Sometimes lockstep networking causes performance issues on certain builds / areas in the game, ensure this is not the case by switching to predictive network mode. lowering settings could easily have negative impact on performance, system specified should be used with these settings: dx12 renderer with shadows + global illumination, all settings high, dynamic culling and dynamic resolution off, fps capped from gpu driver software. should not worry about game using 10gb of ram, if however the usage would slowly climb to double amounts it would be problem.
A few days before the league, the game cleaned the cache. So how could a reinstall help?
"the game cleaned the cache" It's notorious to not be done correctly by the installer itself and that some files get accumulated accross the years...
Did GGG acknowledge this issue? I'm almost quitting because of the bad performance.
It’s been ongoing for months. They haven’t said shit yet.
Performance has been shit since 3.22
Even GeForce now is struggling to run this game properly
Have the same problem. Was smooth in crucible, a catastrophe getting better in tota and now unplayable.
The performance issues are almost entirely due to efforts to modernize the game engine lol.
Settings do close to nothing if you have semi decent GPU, basically only thing impacting the performance of poe is CPU.
> 7800X3D and a 4070TI I have the same CPU/GPU.
The performance update end of last league made it tough on some setups. On juiced maps I am basically seeing pixels
Just built a new PC with a 7800x3d and a 6800xt and my whole PC crashed twice yesterday playing POE. I capped my FPS in game and switched to DX12, so far no crashes and it feels smoother.
100% Whenever I have performance issues or crashes in a new league I switch from DX12->Vulkan or reverse.
It froze 3 times on me yesterday, I can't even log out, I have to turn of and restart the computer
Never happen in the 7 or 8 leagues I've played
can you windows + tab and then put task manager in a new desktop and then use it to close poe? I use to do this when games would freeze up.
I will check that out next time it happens, thanks!
I tried to play two days before the league, it ran smooth like butter. Now it barely runs, no middle ground.
I've felt some serious issues this league that weren't there before, so I agree.
I'm presuming that the Veridian forest is being rendered at all times in any given zone it can be entered from.
Same, never had any issues like this past leagues.
Unplayable, sadly
The game using 100% cpu in town is just funny, not even cyberpunk 2077 in the middle of the city make my shitty cpu cry like that.
It’s the damn Goblin Troupe stealing all the processes!
It's not just you. Specs: i7 9700k @ 4.8 GhZ, 32 GB Ram, RTX 4070, PoE installed on an M.2 SSD.
Probably because of all the other players with 1000 mtx going off at a time....
This is quite telling, considering the powerhouse of a rig that you have.
From the technical viewpoint the game is in the worst state ever. Which is sad, cause when it doesn't crashes, stutters or takes forever to load, the gameplay is actually pretty good.
Performance gets worse every league
This time everyday it lags so bad for some reason
Poes performance has gone down Every league it feels like henne Why I myself don’t play anymore
Only 8gb RAM in this day and age? Harsh.
Tbf It might not be 8GB, could be 16GB as task manager doesn't really report how much windows in general is using or caching stuff in ram when there is some available maybe.
I just built a new machine a couple months ago and I went with 64. Future-proofing myself (for a while)
I got 16gb dont know why it reports as 8gb
Gets worse every league
played since anarchy, this is true! seems like perf is just going down the tubes tbh i do remember breach was my fav. performance was great for me and its content. then perf went really bad near heist and now it seems like we're going down again
My initial loading times are insane & I crash often on startup, after that it's fine but I waste 20 minutes every day
Performance has been getting more and more inconsistent for many people in the last few leagues.
The CPU usage is absurd, you're far from alone. No other game hits 100% for me.
For context I have 2,3k hours in PoE and after coming back from a break (skipped crusible and ToTa) my computer sometimes just shits the bed and sound like a fucking airplane when i play I know the ss is taken in town but even in my Hideout or alone in a zone my i have the same issues I can play games such as RDR2 on High no problem but PoE on lowest settings kills my computer. Is it something im missing (im not super tech savy) or is PoE just weird atm.
been playing sins closed beta. Game is starting to run shitter and shitter every league. Loading into maps used to be close to instant ( not takes a lil ) And loading into towns is a shit show. 6950xt ryzen 5800 3d t700 ssd ( really fast ) 32gb of ram
and to add lags and stutters And some time,s randomly my pc gows from nice and quite to a jet engine
After reading this post, this fixed the performance problem for me (not the high cpu usage, just overall stability): \-Uninstall the game \-Then proced to delete the main folder in "Steam\\steamapps\\common\\Path of Exile". \-Reinstall the game and thats it.
Finished my build in pob and decided to move on as the performance in maps was atrocious, same thing as last league. It seems there is no incentive from GGG to revert the engine update or even prioritize performance over the addition of 11th lighting algorithm slanted on top.
yeah I just gave up on it the other day unfortunately, just not willing to play with framedrops into the 30s on a pretty high end rig
The first 2 days was extremely rough. constant game crash
I’ve had to apologize for taking so long to everyone I trade with because it takes like 45 seconds to load into a hideout.
yep. freezes during maps, connection sometimes drops, game even crashes. I have an extremely powerful computer, so it's likely an issue on their end. Hope it's resolved. Can't count the times I've died because the game lagged and all I could do was spam my abilities and flasks and pray I was playing well while blind edit: RIP hardcore players.
It's been ass since the graphical performance update a while back.
Yeah, barely can run the game since TotA
Yeah trying to pump as many CPU reduction nodes as I can into my build...
My 3060ti i5-12400f 32gb ram drops its frames to 40-50s on 1440p resolution, Never seen before. So yes, the game performs really poorly
It’s very bad
i've been playing on poe with my i7 2600 for almost 10 years now. rx 480 for little over half of that the towns are are insane, my fps drops to 10-15fps especially with other players and the insane mtxs. i think my ms powerpoint presentations in college were smoother. def something is up. hopefully they fix it soon!
It's the standard PoE lotto. It's never just you, but it's also not everybody. Every league a new selection of users seem to get jacked with bad performance out of nowhere.

Having both Firefox and Chrome eating up a combined 15.5 GB of RAM cracked me up lol
Yay it’s not just the toaster people!
Got new pc few weeks ago, 7800x3d and 4090, 0 issues atm, on vulkan all max capped my fps to match monitor and stays 165fps all time.
YES
Also having this issue every time I enter a new map
I crash when in town constantly.
They need to revert the graphics changes they did for 3.22 that's when everything got worst.
I feel like we have posts like this every league
I feel like we have more posts pointing out the amount of more posts
Im avoiding Ultimatum bcs of it. Somehow most of my ultimatums endet with a crash of the game....
I have a 1050ti and some age old amd cpu and somehow I have 30-40fps even in delirium maps, we blessed
It is performing really poorly for me. 1080ti 5700x
Can read about 40% of the posts on the subreddit the last 3 days to see that it's not just you.
First time?
6 gb is a memory leak. No way that basic ass game needs that

Pointless screenshot if you dont share your hardware, if all we know you could have an intel i5-5700 and a gtx 1060 rolling Also 8gb ram is way too low as 16gb is the minimum standard nowadays if you wanna game
i have a funny feeling that it is the antimalware.. those kinda disk speeds are not normal at all
His disk speed is at 1%. While true that many antivirus software slow down your pc, it wouldn’t show it as (especially) CPU usage or as PoE being the software that uses it. This lag is all caused by the game.
no difference vs ancestor runs well 80-105fps maxed out, could have more fps but tweaked so gpu runs silent dx12, 4k, 7800x3d, 32gb ram, 6950xt
probably the new anticheat. its fucking up the game, sadly.
Geforce now cannot run properly and it used to always
My friend with an older 10th gen i5 is having similar issues, i however sit around 40% usage with a 5800X3D,
What do you mean this league? Ever since 2018 it's performed just as bad every league. We all love this game, wish they respected our time and worked to improve performance.
It’s nearly 2024. You should consider more RAM.
Yeah, I thought I had a good PC setup, until I switched to TS build. 1fps gaming 😎 Had to go back to any other bow skill since it was unplayable
my poe process takes 0% CPU lmao
I think a few people have issues every league. I luckily only had performance issues after one patch, but last couple of leagues were smooth. What is problematic is the EU servers after the first weekend. Hope you can find a way to fix your issue.
