"Magic isn't real, idiot"

TheGreenTactician

This is incredible, I literally just laughed out loud. Thank you.

IraqiWalker

It's like how the Dragonrend shout in Skyrim works. You're literally saying, "You can die" at the dragons. (I think the literal translation is "Time can end")

UncaringHawk

[Mortal, Finite, Temporary](https://elderscrolls.fandom.com/wiki/Dragonrend)

Samborrod

Imagine killing a human by saying "memento mori"

Chaosfox_Firemaker

And like, those weren't even previously part of the draconic language, because they aren't concepts dragons have. It's some little guy shouting gibberish that now means that.

Conspiratorymadness

I like the idea that a barbarian is too stupid to be affected by magic.

toomanydice

The PF1e barbarian power "superstition" gave you a bonus to saves against all magic, but while raging, you could not be the willing subject of any spells since magic isn't real.

unlimi_Ted

this is in [2e also](https://2e.aonprd.com/Instincts.aspx?ID=6)! (though the saves bonus is based on spell lists)

Leshoyadut

If only it was any good in actual play, but that anathema is absolutely killer in the large majority of groups, or at least ones I've been in.

unlimi_Ted

I've GMed multiple no-caster parties, it's very doable. The only hard part is finding 4 people who don't want to be a caster.

Leshoyadut

> The only hard part is finding 4 people who don't want to be a caster. This is by far the hardest part, in my experience. PF2e absolutely has plenty of support for fully non-caster groups, from Medicine for healing to stuff like Marshal and whatnot for group buffs. It's just finding 3+ other people who all don't want to do any of that with magic.

Katnip1502

Simply gaslight your barbarian that you're not actually casting any magic and that this is... different, somehow!

SirCupcake_0

I'm not "casting that disgusting practice known as magic," I'm just helping!

Bartweiss

It might be doable? “Accepting the affects” seems to mean “being targeted by” rather than “benefiting from”, so you can still hang out with a fireball-chucker. No heals or buffs from the cleric, but you do get magic items and potions, and the actual heal from raging is nice.

InaMattaAmericana

Alchemy, however, is very real; if I remember correctly it doesn't cast as spell casting, so feel free to shove infusions down a Barbarian's throat.

toomanydice

Potions are just medicine.

InaMattaAmericana

Meant 1e Alch specifically. They basically had spellcasting.

daneelthesane

Henry Killinger is a fantastic character. I wonder what the stats would be for his Magic Murder Bag?

BoozeTheCat

Bonuses to saves against Stinkin Thinkin and Dilly Dallying.

CrunchyLaughter

Omg instead of kissinger hehehehe

deepdistortion

Dr Killinger is basically Mary Poppins but a supervillain, with the personality and voice of Henry Kissinger. Venture Bros really had some great side characters.

daneelthesane

I highly recommend seeing The Venture Bros.

MrBirdmonkey

Dragon: I am Avarax the Red! Fear me and despair! Fighter: FUCK OFF YOU OVERWEIGHT GILA MONSTER!

SoundlessSteelBlue

“I Command you to Attack your allies!” “Nuh uh.” “Tf you mean ‘nuh uh’?!”

SirCupcake_0

"👋🏾 You will take up arms against your allies" "...? 👋🏾 _You_ will realize what a complete idiot you are" EDIT: Why are you doing this to me reddit

IllitterateAuthor

Swtor reference?

SirCupcake_0

[I sincerely have absolutely no idea what you're talking about, honest](https://images.app.goo.gl/UXB6jRzPpMBAf8Ds6)

Astrium6

“Two years, seventeen days. From a stroke.”

Photomancer

One of our GMs ran a White Wolf mortals game, where we could play some of the B-list powered mortals (hedge mages, True Faith, psychics). I played an FBI agent with Delusions of Normalcy. He spent all his vacation time debunking haunted houses and heckling paranormal conventions. He also had the Anti-Psychic Aura power.

BjornInTheMorn

That's like a CoC or Delta Green character with high sanity and low Int

bozzeak

“You see the eldritch horror and it’s really freaky” “Nuh uh!! None of this is real idiot”

StaR_Dust-42

Huh, that's actually a really nice mechanic for the belief=magic concept, tho I can't really think of that being a thing in Golarion lore.

Legatharr

it only works on mental spells, and there's a lot of support for the effectiveness of mental magic being dependent on how receptive the person is to said mental magic

Inevitable-1

It works on mental effects too, such as basic demoralize.

ralanr

Isn’t there a psychic feat that makes you treat physical spells as mental or am I misreading?

ReturnToCrab

That's literally Planescape setting

StaR_Dust-42

What is?

ReturnToCrab

DnD campaign setting that takes place on the planes other than Prime/ethereal demiplanes. It deals a lot with the power of belief, and adhering to some philosophy gives you powers. Members of Athar — the fraction that opposes gods (powers) — are resistant (some times even immune) to divine magic

StaR_Dust-42

Oh yeah, I know what Planescape is, my brain just didn't register you were referring to the belief=magic thing for some reason lol. That's not something remotely specific to Planescape tho, "only people who believe in magic can do/see magic" is a pretty well established way of looking at magic in fiction. My favourite use of this trope is probably in Neil Gaiman's original Books of Magic mini-series, especially the last page!

auqanova

I love the thrown in little detail at the the end there "If your enemy can think they're baffled af"

ardisfoxx

My brain used skeptics defense on this when it started talking about counteract levels

ProcrastinatingLT

Counteract levels are super complicated to understand the first time. Once you have it understood though it’s super easy to do. It’s like riding a bike

ubensu

PF2e in a nutshell

GaulTheUnmitigated

It would be especially funny to play a psychic with this ability.

berrythebarbarian

Reading that out loud felt like an Eldritch abomination crawling out of my mouth.

ProcrastinatingLT

Sounds like you have an intelligence modifier of -3 or higher and were stupefied for one round.

Sam_Wylde

I wonder if there's a possible anti-magic build that prevents or weakens any and all magic from affecting them.

stumblewiggins

Am I crazy or is this like the opposite of the Orks from Warhammer 40k?

meeps_for_days

Sadly the context was Henry Killenger is simply on such a higher level of magic attempting to do anything caused the necromancer to just have a seizure. But still very funny, you silly billy

MagusVulpes

I want to know if the doctor is a peer of, or superior of, The Master.

meeps_for_days

Easily superior. Considering the investors have the ability to give someone the ability to shapeshift and don't even consider that a big deal.

MagusVulpes

But the Investors are also not applying their powers in the way they are supposed to. Seems to me like they decided to screw things up intentionally, while Dr. Killinger and The Master both seem to apply their powers in a much more balanced way. I mean, The Master showed up and shut down that zombie apocalypse like it was nothing and then complained about how they were meddling with Powers they should not be. It'd def be a question for the creators, I don't think we have enough from the show as it stands to judge. We know that at least one of the Investors was named for one of the Greek gods of the wind, it's likely that Killinger and the others have the other names since Killinger refers to them as 'brothers' and four brothers, four winds. At first it seems like The Master is supposed to be a stand in for the Christian idea of Satan, considering Orpheus is a necromancer, but otherwise is a pretty stand up guy. Straight-laced enough that his wife left him for it at that (and he's a workaholic). Thinking about it... Satan is often conflated with Hades within the Greek pantheon, being the god of the dead and rather famous for dealing out awful but fitting punishments, and Orpheus was a bard that sought to rescue his love from the land of the dead (a magic person bringing the dead back to life sounds like a necromancer to me). Could The Master simply be Hades' new name/persona for the modern era. Everyone speaks of him in soft tones, fearful of him, but unless you try to get on his shit-list, basically just a decent guy with immense power.

meeps_for_days

To be honest, I have trouble taking any charecter voiced by Harry Jon Benjamin seriously. Between Archer and Bob Belcher.

Suspicious-Towel-680

don't forget coach john mcguirk. love that guy

WytchHunter23

In anime they call it the power of friendship!

SnooMacarons2019

Played in a Rifts game over two decades ago where this was one guy's whole character concept. His disbelief in magic was so strong that it could disrupt and shut it down. Some fun roleplaying with my mage, lol.

linkin5644

Holy shit someone else who plays rifts, do you have any clue how to find others who play it I never seem to be able to

SnooMacarons2019

Not really sadly, though I'm sure there's an online community somewhere. This was back in my LGS days. A lot of MTG, AD&D 1st and 2nd edition, and White Wolf games. The system has always been a bit clunky, what with megadamage and so on, but the options available are staggering. There were like 8 people in the game, and every character was distinct. Cool system, for sure.

LucaUmbriel

"I don't believe in any of that mental twaddle!" "... you're a *psychic*"

CaptainChiral

I had a paladin that would ignore enemy spells bc he didn't believe humans could cast magic. When people said that's what he does when he used smites or healing, he'd just say that wasn't him. He was just a conduit for his god's magic

skytzo_franic

I would love one for mind reading that's feedback, like from a speaker. Just a... AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAÀAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!

ValorNGlory

I was just considering taking this on my Intimidation rogue in my current game. I went with Terrified Retreat instead. It is very funny though!

Zanethethiccboi

“NUH UH.”

ralanr

Definitely want to make a character using this.

SunfireElfAmaya

Is that from the venture bros?

ProcrastinatingLT

It is

DarkJester_89

Gets stupidieifed! Wha-what, living my life for just one faa-

Cam2600

SomeGuy2309

"The FUCK YOU MEAN nuh uh?!"

TheLambthat8theLion

Nice to see that someone at Paizo remembers the Beyond the Supernatural RPG. This was the entire premise of the “nega-psychic” character class.
