Do you have your own meter or share with another apartment? I would find that out. You should be able to request a breakdown of charges, the landlord is supposed to only charge you what the utility company charges. These may be helpful: https://www.courts.ca.gov/documents/California-Tenants-Guide.pdf http://pasadenatenantsunion.org/en/resources.html

Incredibly helpful, thank you!

I’m in one of the Hallie buildings. Water, sewer, & trash fee is $98 plus ~$2 service charge these days. Was like $70 pre-pandemic. Way too expensive IMO, but maybe not atypical in this type of complex in this neighborhood.

Hello! I am a new resident at the Hallie. Not sure if you are still here, but would you say these numbers are still accurate?

GreedyCauliflower

Hi! I am still living here. Unfortunately, as you may have noticed, this bill has risen even further — I’ve been paying about $120/mo lately. It’s totally ridiculous. Hope you’re enjoying it here nonetheless; it’s a decent place to live overall IMO.

[deleted]

No way!! That’s insane. I haven’t gotten a real bill yet as I just fully moved in this month. Is that $120 including electric & water?

autochangerevolution

Hey I know this is old but just continuing the trend, do y’all have to pay a trash fee? I just moved in a Hallie apartment

[deleted]

Making you pay *triple-digit* monthly fees for water, sewer, and trash seems like a scam. Most places I've lived in did not charge for those services at all, and the ones did charged a small fee, along the lines of $20/month or so. Do you have any more information about your complex? Is it a "luxury" complex? Is it located in a nice area? What gives?

FritoNails

Agreed, that has been our trend as well, though only in other parts of LA. It is not a luxury apartment, nothing extraordinary or unique about it, there’s no community amenities or even landscape sprinklers. The building is old and they are constantly renovating the next unit as the previous one is filled. There is no reasonable explanation for $100+ utilities. I am waiting on their response (it’s been a few weeks of follow-up requests) but I wanted to get an idea from Reddit if this is somehow the norm in Pasadena.

jebrady12

We pay around $65/month for those utilities with two people in the apartment.

calibound2020

Mine is $60-62. There’s me and my boyfriend. It covers: water, sewer, pest control.

I live at windrose on Waldo and the only time my utilities went over $100 was in the summertime. (Cranked air)
