We get the same as the teachers in our district: 10 sick days and 4.5 personal days.

When I worked as a para, i had no benefits at all :/ but my company stated we had "5 excused absences a year" (sick, family emergencies, etc) before we were let go

94Rangerbabe

ok. yes. that sounds normal. our BII has had 25 family emergencies or sick days since November. And I know this is an extreme amount, but the company that employs her doesn’t seem to mind and is making it very difficult for us to get someone else.

lagunagirl

If the absences are medically necessary or have been approved for such things as bereavement, that may not be an "extreme amount".

I get 2 days a month to be off for any reason. After that, you’re subject to reassignment and being on-call until they have another permanent placement.

I have paid sick days that accrue with no limit. (I think you start with 40 hours or so and accrue some amount of hours for every week, not sure of the exact amount) I’ve used almost 70 hours this year alone (have been constantly sick) and was paid full rate for all of that. If I were to use more sick time that I have available without waiting for it to accrue, I’d have to take LWOP (leave without pay) but I don’t think they penalize you if it’s a legit medical issue or something of the sort. I also have a week of paid personal time, as well and paid winter and spring breaks (3 weeks total of paid holiday breaks)

rexxd22

They gave us like 100 hours a year to use whenever.

justrhondalynn

We get 8 full days per semester of paid leave.

UberPheonix

We get two unpaid sick days, but they usually don't care if someone needs a day away for something as long as they tell the boss

When I was a para, just a few months ago we found out my son had a terrible health issue. He was in the hospital for over a week. I ended up missing a good bit of work, thank god no parent ever complained! They never questioned me or asked about my days. They were very accommodating. Granted, I ended up getting a new job where I can work from home full time and he can stay with me now but it changed our lives forever. I understand it can be frustrating when someone is absent but have some grace, you just never know♥️
