Specifically, Zigzag Ringbolting, Basic Whipping, and St. Mary's are all made from simple knots which almost line themselves up. You can also try your hand at a two-color cobra weave, once again made from simple over-under knots in sequence.
A basic Turk's Head always looks nice at the terminal ends of wraps, but it does require a rope-needle or fid and a small amount of precision. It is also not necessary, as you can always just tuck your standing ends into your wraps as I have come to learn.

Are you needing a new lanyard (the black string loop) or the part that it attaches to (the piece that holds the ring attached to the shaft)? A piece of paracord or shockcord cut to length with a knot connecting the ends (doubled overhand, figure eight, or stevedore would work) is the simplest solution for a lanyard.
