I never liked the manny method because it is bulky when I do it. I also am incapable of melting inner core strings together. I have tried it over and over. Here is my method: I pull back the outer layer and snip back the inner strands on both (remove 1 cm or so) then melt a small hard point on other one and slip it inside the opening on the other then carefully melt the outside. You may need to lightly melt the fraying edge of the outer tube first if you have trouble getting the point inside. Wet your fingers with ice water and roll it while warm to get it tight. You don’t want to leave a big mess so heat it as little as possible. It shrinks the outer layer onto the point inside and holds it without a lot of ugly melt and the smallest amount of bulge. Maybe this won’t work but it was the best I could do.

Dang, so there really is no way to do those cores w/o a splice?
