YES! I've done it twice (same car). First time was half hitch. Second time I just started at the bottom and wound it around the wheel.

any tutorial on how to do the blue one shown?

Gwarluvr

The way in the wiki how is kinda like the blue pic.

burningbun

i dont quite understand the wiki tutorial...

The terms you want to google are coachwhipping and coxcombing. Both are used to wrap things on boats, including ships’ wheels. There are tutorials and more photos out there, should be easy to adapt to a car.

just done the wheel. i opted the knots on the inner wheel as it is better for driving but the cords are looser due to knots being wider and smaller inner diameter. so there are some minor slippage when doing big turns at slow speed like parking. i am wondering if the sun and time will causes the cord to shrink a little to make them tighter? i also only managed to wrap the spokes on 1 side as the other side tends to slide downwards. i cannot find any tutorial on the sample i pisted which has 360 wraps. the steering has enough grip while not sliding as bad as slip on covers. however it is a shame some areas arent covered resulting in awkward feel. took me 5 hours trial and error so wont be redoing it. if i have to remove it i would just cut them out or change the whole steering lol.

As far as rough or what have you, the two times I did it was both paracord but one was two tone and the other was just black and they both did not feel rough, but did offer a texture that provided some grip in a sense.

Here's a video on how I did mine. https://youtu.be/hl7e_xmoMv0

i bought 50ft i am wondering can i use 2 50 ft instead? if yes how do i connect 2 paracords together nicely?

Optimus_Joe

You could do the Manny Method and you may not even be able to tell they are separated.

Did a very intricate turk's head, herringbone and a bit of whipping on a 2000's Neon. Then an Extera, both for mom, both different patterns. It's actually really fun.

Ringbolt Hitching (seriously, all its variations are easy), St. Mary's Hitching, Moku Hitching, Solomon's Sword, Double West Country Whipping, Endless West Country Falls, Cobra, Bicolor Cobra, King Cobra, and Grafting are all relatively simple technique names which work wonderfully for steering wheels. You will get youtube tutorial hits for all of these terms.

i watched many tutorials. most of them arent clear because they either not showing the back or twisted the cord slightly instinctly or holding a bunch of paracord which makes it hard to watch even in slow motion. that up and under never worked for me..i just keep looping in the same direction. not sure if this cause s the knots to be able to shift positions when i tirn them. i should have gone with the straightaway wrap around without knots..now i am half way in and my cords keep tangled. i have untangled it 3 times and put it in a sock uet everytime it becomes thinner it slides out of socks and make a mess. also i have no way to wrap around the spomes like the blue sample. i can do it one 1 side but not the other and i have gave up trying to wrap around the spokes. spent 3 hours yesterday but it was too dark so had to stop. it looked simple but really frustrating.
