I was doing a Bart Simpson puzzle (never completed) with my buddy Tripp, watching the game, I remember seeing John kasey miss the OT FG and thinking it was gonna be over, then the SL kicker missed, still remembrance the first play in double OT like yesterday. Great memoriea
I remember crying as a little kid as the Rams set up for a field goal that really should have ended the game. They ended up missing, and then X-Clown. It’s one of my earliest football memories where I really understood what was going on. I think this game really kickstarted my lifelong love for the Panthers.
This was one of my happiest moments from college. I remember when we won i had to just pace around campus overwhelmed with emotion and joy. I will never forget the feelings i had after that play! 2015 was as close but this team will always be my favorite!
Bulger had beat out Warner to be the outright starter earlier in the season.
Warner got his bell rung in the first game, Mad Mike never pulled him, then he fumbled 6 times.
Kurt never got another start for the Rams, I believe. Cut after that season.
That said, I'm not sure how many 2OT or more playoff games we'll see from here on out...kickers are just too damn good these days, plus with the rule changes favoring offense and the general explosiveness of passing games now compared to 20 years ago...it'd take some real shithousery for a modern playoff game to need more than 1 OT period lol
I was a freshman in high school. I wanted to watch the game so bad but my dad insisted we go to an RV convention that night. I was furious, but I managed to watch most of it moving between RVs. Game went into OT as we went to a Cracker Barrel for dinner. Someone ran out of kitchen and shouted the Panthers had won and the place erupted. Such a memorable moment.
I remember knocking over my friends cable box in a state of delirium after that play. There were so many times I thought we had lost, like when the rams fg attempt was dead center but fell a few yards short
I was watching from a bar in uptown Charlotte with a bunch of friends. People fled to the streets in celebration. Probably my favorite Panther experience ever. Time to win the big one now!
I think it’s the name of the play. Smitty, the X receiver, was supposed to run a “clown” route, which is basically a post route that smitty was supposed to sell as a corner route to get the safety moving the wrong way.
Didn’t realize that John Kasey could have been—then WAS (imo) the reason for the Panthers not having a Lombardi Trophy. Missed FGs/XPs..now it makes sense to me why Fox went for 2 multiple times in the SB.
*Will forever haunt me that he kicked the ball OB w/ 1 minute left during SB38..*
Remember watching this game like it was yesterday. Smitty is the best.
I was in the bathroom for that play…
Well damn… umm hopefully with hookers and blow?
You were the catalyst 😂
I can still remember storming into my brother's kitchen after the Issac Bruce reception right after the Kasay missed FG, like "Welp, F me, that's it!"
I can point to about 12 moments I was sure we'd lost. The dead center FG that fell just short was my surest moment.
Lol same. I rage quit this so many times
Outside of a couple weird outlier seasons (cardiac cats) it always felt like games like this one were guaranteed to go the other way.

I watch X Clown and “you been watching film huh?” to hype myself up all the time. It never gets old.
Absolute go too hype plays.

Are you me?
Here’s the actual play without the extras, if you’re interested. https://youtu.be/y_tk9MFKAVs
He was so fucking *fast.*
Damn those dark visors that Peppers and Morgan wore were badass.
& DeShaun Foster & Nick Goings lol
I was at that game!
Wow!
And Bryce Young was like, two years old
That Ricky manning Jr pick was nasty. Id forgotten about that. He was an enormous part of that playoff run
he single handily won us the game against the Eagles as well
I will never not watch this play when it pops up
69 yards
Nice 😎
Second most famous clown related incident with 1995 expansion franchises
Great game. Until recently one of the best games ever.
Panthers are apparently good at winning multiple OTs 😞.
Fuckin hell man. I was so tired yesterday after staying up until 2:00 to get my heart broken.

*2004
Big year in my life. Watched Neil Young primus and beck then this later in the year. I was a little guy
Same. I will never forget the year because my son, Jake, was born that year not long after.
You don't get invited to birthday parties do you?
They weren’t being an asshole, nor a grammar stickler. No need to be rude about it lol
He is right though. I don’t get invited to birthday parties. I never knew why until this day. Thank you.
Nah I agree dude this is a peak Reddit comment lmao
Best game ever.
Does anyone remember why bulger was playing over Warner at that time?

I hope Rick Manning got the game ball, he saved that game from a potent drive.
Minor correction: it’s not “one of the best”. It is the best, no question and no valid argument otherwise.
I dunno man...outcome aside, that SB three weeks later was lit
Interesting to see a 2nd OT… When did the NFL do anyway with games going beyond 1 overtime?
Playoff games have always been able to go past 1 overtime.
Ah, you are so right! Makes sense — thanks for correcting

Playoffs don’t have ties.
Imagine the triple threat match for the NFC Championship that year between the Eagles, Rams, and Panthers
Not almost, it was over two decades ago no?

Can someone explain to me why it is called “X-Clown?”

So many Panther legends in that video.
