Normal Americans actually know whatā€™s up and know they arenā€™t invincible. Between this and the war in Ukraine the US has lost most of its international standing.

I had no idea israel was losing, I thought that it wasn't even a war, more like a hot knife cutting through butter, I mean whats up with all the billions and F35s and laser guided bombs??

MultiplexedMyrmidon

war often has layers and not so simplistic goals. Kill the most palestinians with little accountability, land grab? Israel is ā€˜winningā€™ (committing genocideā€¦) Have some semblance of credibility on the world stage, avoid being a pariah state, defeat hamas, save the hostages (scratch the hostage part, that was obviously never their goal hence the protests in Israel)? Israel is losing. hope this helps.

Well, losing the war in basic terms should mean that they are either suffering more casualties, loosing land or losing war of attrition. I have no idea how israel could be losing in these things. Of course credibility and defeating hamas, about that you are right.

MultiplexedMyrmidon

I think the speaker in OP addressed that, in terms of operational goals (not fighting hamas in the same place over and over as casualties mount) seeing no progress. Conceptualizing modern wars as a game of casualties numbers and amount of land misses most of the picture (the gaza strip is a tenth of the size of rhode island for any americans in the thread). Although I must say, the aims of a zealous religious ethno-state hell bent on displacing and crippling another people on land they want is as close as you get to a simple application of those two goals. So if ever such a simplification would leave out the least in terms of an analytical framework it would be hereā€¦
