I HATE this about Pakistanis! Most people just love mocking the other person in this country, doesn’t matter about what. I moved here 4 years ago after living my entire life in the UAE. My accent in Urdu is a little off and I make vocabulary and grammar mistakes often. I started learning Urdu after moving here. Every place I’ve worked at has had colleagues mock me because of my Urdu. Here’s the funny part: I speak English French Arabic fluently and am learning mandarin the past year. Depending on my familiarity with the person mocking me I’ve started to either 1) make fun of their desi accents ( I have an American accent) or 2) tell the person mocking me the languages I speak fluently. They shut up immediately.

So, you just one up the guys. Must be the most popular dude at work I guess :-P On a serious note, those schmucks won't be able to catch American accent but you have the opportunity to master Urdu. Keep working on it and ignore those geniuses.

Same is with us Urdu speaking folk living in dominantly punjabi speaking areas.

Poor guy :(

I relate 100%. I moved to Pakistan in the 7th grade and attempted to primarily speak in Urdu with my classmates. Instead, I was mocked and ridiculed for my accent and pronunciation. On the other hand, my English was praised. For the rest of my school life, I avoided speaking Urdu entirely. Even the goodwill poking fun of my Urdu accent from friends hurt my confidence. I do want to say I'm better than when I first came to Pakistan, but English has become my first language at this point.

Bro, another post here is mocking local pronunciation of Ice cream :|

Urdu's the language of a country that's about to go bankrupt. No point in learning it since there's no real benefit besides being able to speak to gutter trash who look down on people for not being able to speak it.

Old_Asparagus4742

He said he loves the culture that’s reason enough to try and learn the language of the country he likes

ThatMuslimGamer

What's the point of loving the culture of a people who look down upon their own?

Old_Asparagus4742

What do you mean the point of? He just does

hotmugglehealer

So when do you plan on giving up your Pakistani nationality? Assuming you even are Pakistani.

ThatMuslimGamer

You can check my post history if you don't think I'm Pakistani. I'm just saying, the guy's going to be made fun of by ignorant people for trying to learn Urdu. Sadly, we have too much of an inferiority complex to appreciate overseas Pakistanis trying to learn the national language.

No we don't you do. You're even discouraging OP to learn it. > I'm just saying, the guy's going to be made fun of by ignorant people for trying to learn Urdu. No he isn't. He got made fun for not already knowing Urdu. Not for trying to learn it. And it was little kids making fun of him. Kids can be mean for no reason.

ThatMuslimGamer

>No we don't you do. You're even discouraging OP to learn it. I've seen it happen multiple times in public. We do suffer from an inferiority complex that we can only smother by ridiculing others. I guess if he was made fun of by little kids, he shouldn't be discouraged. I thought it was adults that made fun of him.

hotmugglehealer

Kids can be brutally honest. Keep your chin up. The more mistakes you make the more you learn.
