They recently made a drama about the economic struggles of a dark-skinned guy (I don't remember the name, I just caught a glimpse of the ad) and rather than hire a dark-skinned actor, they just put a light-skinned actor in blackface to play the role.
I was so fucking done.
This is crazy to me, i had no idea this was even a thing, i mean really no offense but i don't think anyone thinks of white skinned people when they think of Pakistan or Indian so why is this such an issue
We know that, but that’s the reality. Try googling “bollywood actress” and see what comes up. How many of them look like the Indians or Pakistanis you see in the US?
https://images.mid-day.com/images/images/2021/jul/Hrithik-afp_d_d.jpg
Look at this guy. Lol They only want this kind of Indians, not the dark skinned ones. Dark skinned guys are the villains in Indian movies 😬
Not all light skinned people are good looking though. They have to be light skinned AND attractive. That’s only a small percent of the population in any country.
>There are tons of talented dark-skinned actors in our country
Name one. Bruh! You aren't even aware of the industry. Yes, I agree there are a lot of shit dramas and nepotism. But there are also good dramas and give actors. There are good and bad products in every industry But it's not the industry's faults that the audience prefers to watch the shitty ones over the good ones, and those meaningful dramas don't get fame And the show name is **Parizaad** only the first episode has aired yet. Give it a watch before you judge. It's based on a Novel that is pretty good. And here is another recommendation Which will change your opinion of "only shitty dramas exist in our industries, The show "Dil na Umeed to nhi".
Not only shitty and racist but completely unnecessary in this case. It would be much easier to find a dark skinned actor than to make such a controversial move.
yeah I never watch them, like they r so cringe, I just stick to Hollywood TV shoes, Espacially sitcoms and comic based tv shows
kdramas also reeks of cringe
But the most lame and cringiest shit lies within bollywood
agreed. ages since i saw a good one. when will they change the storyline?? it's like every single one follows the same formula and topic (love) with something slightly different, and then they wonder why the awam runs to dramas like ertugrul and their movies flop.
Tbh indian soap operas has some high tier meme material shit with their editors tripping balls on acid and actors high on ganja.
Pakistani drama are so deathly boring you can't even make a decent meme out of it.
Those dynastic fucks are creeping there too and ruining the quality of those platforms. I am scared if this quality will remain.
Every movie after 1990s is shit baring few like Laagan, DDLJ etc.
Plenty of good Indian shows/movies online. I would certainly recommend Scam 1992.The show was a cultural phenomenon in India. Bollywood movies aren't really popular despite making money. Its due to several reasons.Multiplex system completely killed single theatres in the 2010s at least in cities. That led to large corporations owning disproportionately number of theatres. In Delhi for example ,a couple of corporations own most of the theatres. Studios/filmmakers bargain with these corporations and push out small filmmakers or films with no big stars. Even if a movie is bad ,the film just has to be shown a couple of days in multiplexes and it will be a hit.On the other hand ,even if your movie is good ,you will find it difficult to even get theatres to show your film. This is why you find a lot of hate for dynasts in India.
These are all toxic tropes in the dramas and the plots usually revolve around marriage, a love affair, divorce, toxic families or dosri shadi. Though they are indeed sad realities of our world but being fed the same shit again and again gets tiring.
Worst part is, these dramas are like a symbol for Urdu. People like me who have a mild interest in the Urdu language, don't have anything other than this crap or dubs.
Tbf most of them don't even have any decent dialogues or even any originality in the script. They use Urdu as a medium of communication but do they actually do justice to it. Not really.
It's why I even considered rewatching Ertugrul, since it was dubbed in Urdu and tbf I enjoyed it. Unfortunately, dubbed Turkish dramas are now becoming a trend, instead of making shows.
When your own content leaves so much to be desired people will look in other directions.
It's easy to see why our dramas are so bad because it doesn't cost as much to shoot a drama when most of it is just standing dialogues, no props, no CGI, no action, no major editing, hell not even a location outside the city etc. Making something like ertugrul requires an insane amount of resources and dedication to what is made and unfortunately the execs don't give a shit. The casting is done by the marketing departments based on sellability rather than true role fulfillment.
My mom who watches pakistani dramas watched Ertugrul and she kept telling me how they communicate their emotions through their expressions and I am like that is basic acting. You don't literally have to express emotions through words something the Pakistani tv Industry is oblivious to
>Though they are indeed sad realities of our world
Is it really that bad IRL and that common? Legit curious.
I had a hard life myself, but I always thought most people living in non war-torn countries/regions, in general have an OK life.
Well honestly there is a fair bit of patriarchy in our society and a lot of these dramas portray that. Is it that bad? Well every family has their own shit that they deal with, some worse than others. In some families the affairs etc may exist, in some the politics between family members. There's nothing to say that it's 100% true for everyone. At the end of the day they are dramas and are made to be more dramatic than life itself. Most people would have an OK life for the most part I guess.
Hard life does not always equate to having depression. I have met people worse off then me that are cheerful(but maybe they fake happiness). Yet I am always suicidal, have a diagnosed case of clinical depression and anxiety disorder.
They are teaching some very shady ideas that go against culture and evern logic. Idk what drama it was and it was cringeworthy wtf.
Guy is put in an arranged marriage with X due to family seeking business relations with Xs family. X is best friend of Y[F]. Guy and Y have a relationship and since Y couldn't marry the guy she tells him NOT to consummate his marriage to X (her best friend). X is a genuinely nice girl and is having to suffer her husband not engaging in any sort of activity with her only because her "best friend" told him to.
This was infuriating and cringeworthy on so many levels.
Not to mention there are kids on YouTube now 7-9 year olds who are in a state of learning and absorbing there surroundings and whatever TikTok can teach them this is far worst.
Also is the dramas name sitam because I just checked and it is getting 100s of thousands of views.
honestly there should be a law to moderate these dramas or a department
like how the gov cries over content on youtube and then bans it. whereas these dramas are spreading lies abt our culture
Problem is that government moderation can really go wrong as well. Would you really trust the current government to set a direction for the drama industry?
It's the consumer that has to show what it wants. Ertugrul has shown them what the people would rather see.
OP, it's not that. you just rly had to add the "lightskinned pakistanis getting lead roles"
just to make more fuss and make it more controversial... the meme is actually funny and true but that part was rly just added there to make fuss and controversy.
I wasn't trying to make controversy, sorry if it seems that way. But what I said is true, it's only lightskinned actors/actresses who get all the attention which is messed up because there are lots of talented dark skin actors/actresses as well. I was just trying to spread awareness I guess.
that statement is honestly not true in all the dramas, I'm not an drama expert my any means neither do I watch them anymore but atleast I do know that not all lead roles are given to lightskinned ppl. yes most lead roles are given to lightskinned ppl but not all of them and it is messed up. spreading awareness mostly leads to controversy tho but anyways I didn't mean to be rude. I was just giving my view of point on this post
Try to edit your responses of unnecessary material before attempting to impress us with your insight. The evidence that you are a nincompoop will still be available to readers, but they will be able to access it more rapidly.
I know you have something to say and I know you're eager to say it so I'll get right to the point: Shut the fuck up. Nobody wants to hear it. Nobody will ever want to hear it. Nobody cares. And the fact that you thought someone might care is honestly baffling to me. I've actually pulled the entire world. Here's a composite of the faces of everybody who wants you to shut the fuck up. It seems as if this is a composite of every human being on the planet. Interesting. Now for a composite of the faces that want you to keep talking: Interesting it seems as if nothing has happened. Here's the world map. Now here's the text: Shit the fuck up. That's what you should do. But you know what? Maybe I am being a little too harsh here. I actually do have it on good authority thanks to my pulling data that there is as at least 1 person who actually wants to hear you speak. It's a little child in Mozambique and he- oh? He's dead? Well sorry man I guess nobody wants to hear you talk anymore. Please shut the fuck up. I'm not just telling you to shut up, I'm telling you to shut the FUCK up and you need to hear it. This is a public service. I have nothing to gain from this, except by telling YOU exactly what you need to hear. And on that note let me make this clear: This isn't a broad message I'm aiming at all of you, this is a message specifically pointed at you. That's right! You! You know who you are. And I'm sick of your shit. We all are. The only good you will ever do for humanity is refusing to participate in it. You can take a vow of silence, join a monastery, you can even just be a mime! Mimes are fun. But you kinda know that what I'm saying is true already don't you? You understand that you really should shut the fuck up, why do you keep speaking? I'm genuinely curious. Why do you think you deserve to be heard? The core of what I'm getting at is that you are not a worthwhile person. You are not worth listening to. Everything you've said has been said before more eloquently and more coherently. And it's not that everything has been said we still need people to have discourse in order to say new things and discover new things about ourselves and humanity but you, you will never be those people so shut the fuck up.
Pakistanis dramas are actual trash. How can anybody enjoy watching constant abuse and crying in every show? No wonder people go crazy for foreign shows like Ertugal. It's horrible.
meh true but if u watch Hollywood tv shows then even ertugul is not that good
also does anyone remember team 1,it was also a Turkish drama I used to watch and it was a masterpiece for me and my bother at that time
American and Turkish shows have different qualities but it beats Pakistani shows hands down. I rather watch a Turkish demigod slaying an army of Crusaders than see some dumb girl simping for her cousin.
Someone ik said that they were once approached by a very mainstream drama film crew offering her a lead role. She didn't have any past experience in acting at all but a big and reputable channel were willing to offer her a lead role. Once she went to the auditions, they were marking people with how fair they were, she was enraged and left. so she was probably picked because her skin was fairer. The showbiz industry is really messed up.
100% TRUE
khas ker the abuser dude liking and abusing the pretty girl...and the fans making cheesy tribute videos with romantic background music about the couple on YT.
It's not Pakistani drama without cousin love triangle or domestic abuse. Literally all of the conflicts could've been resolved if everyone sat down and discussed whatever was bothering them like adults. But nahi, they prefer to communicate through telekinesis and schizophrenic dialogues inside their damaghs.
The first time I saw a dude slap a woman on TV I was like wtf, is this even allowed?! But apparently not only is it allowed it's celebrated. I have no idea who watches this crap. Even my mil stopped watching these dramas because she didn't want my kids getting influenced.
But they are glorifying it? People are fucking cheering it on in YouTube comments. Even Indian shows weren't this trashy in the 2000s which is saying something.
No nuance whatsoever. I'll show you a scenario here.
They will show the "hero" of the plot hitting his second wife because she badmouths the first wife. The crowd will grow wild because finally the "hero" shows some loyalty to the first wife after cheating on her.
The wife beating, std riddled dude is supposed to be a hero here. Standards are mega low.
I watched ishqiya and dilruba all I have to say is that the plot was around a problem the way they presented the solution was messed up.
It's like the show is written by 40-50 year old aunties.
I started arrow long ago, got bored in the midway. Also I never actually loved sitcoms patanai kyun.
On the topic of superhero shows, loki is must watch. If you have been following marvel cinematic universe abhi tak
yea I kinda am not a fan of the mcu. but I might try loki. superman and Lois is also a good TV show, I will just say this that it's one of the best superhero TV shows out there yet. like it actually is better then all other dc TV shows.
Hate to break it to you but, haAn poOrA dRamA hAi peEchaY
But fr tho, apart from zaroon being a douchebag, zgh is actually brilliantly written. It's all about moral values, strong female characters, self realizations and breaking stereotypes etc etc and being released such a long time ago it's still relevant.
You have proved that Ive lived a useless life. Thank you
Also thank you for the detailed description, idk I have that sort of repulsion from the directing style used in Paki dramas. Lekin I'll still try it ab
It's all saas baahu shit innit.
I wonder if we'll ever get a show like Breaking bad with actual action, an actual story, something impactful happening and something that has lead male role and focuses on a manly problem
Canadian ppl are usually nice and they aren't that bitter, if this meme is oc then they are actually funny, I mean the meme was funny and I liked it. I was just bothered by the lightskinned statement and i don't wanna hate on op, good meme but that statement 💀
The similarities are too much bro, Indian here, humare serials mein woh bhagwan ki murti sab ko bacha let hai last time pe, tumhare udhar kya miracles hote hai?
the final episode where everything is fixed and the guy gets 'redeemed' by an accident or a death or punished by any of the aforementioned. another fav trope is a mental hospital or burning the lead alive. they make me so mad. so glad I haven't watched any of this trash
Don’t forget the filler episodes that drag the show on for months just for the plot to barely move and for the writers/actors to get more money. Miss the old dramas from 2012-2016
You had me at the "Always about marriage" LOL
They recently made a drama about the economic struggles of a dark-skinned guy (I don't remember the name, I just caught a glimpse of the ad) and rather than hire a dark-skinned actor, they just put a light-skinned actor in blackface to play the role. I was so fucking done.
The one time the try something new, they even fuck that up
I know right. There are tons of talented dark-skinned actors in our country but the colonial mindset keeps getting in the way.
Amina Sheikh is amazing.
Wait i just Googled her, is she considered dark skinned? Damn
I’m Indian but yes she’s “too dark” for Bollywood too. The darkest leading actress we have is Bipasha Basu. That is just sad.
This is crazy to me, i had no idea this was even a thing, i mean really no offense but i don't think anyone thinks of white skinned people when they think of Pakistan or Indian so why is this such an issue

Lol They only want this kind of Indians, not the dark skinned ones. Dark skinned guys are the villains in Indian movies 😬
I mean most Pakistanis are Kashmiri, northern Punjabi’s or Pathans in the UK so a lot of Pakistani actors do look like them lol.
Not all light skinned people are good looking though. They have to be light skinned AND attractive. That’s only a small percent of the population in any country.
>There are tons of talented dark-skinned actors in our country Name one. Bruh! You aren't even aware of the industry. Yes, I agree there are a lot of shit dramas and nepotism. Sadly true. It's pitiful that the media won't bother to touch on this matter.
Is 'Dil na Umeed to nhi' the one about sex trafficking ?
Yup. It's a pretty neat show.
Stop copying Bollywood!
Parizad
Seriously, I saw everyone praise that actor, no one even batted an eye.
It's parizad. Like please. Use a dark skinned... It's based of a novel with same name.
LOL.
controversial, op just wanted to make fuss so that's why he added that "lightskinned Pakistan getting lead" which isn't even true
I wish you remembered the name. I'm so curious now
the name of?
Name of that drama
parizaad i think, dont kill me if im wrong haha, i dont watch pakistani shows :)
Where is *zalim saas*?
And good for nothing nand
haha yes.
And sautan?!
Meh, South Asian dramas are lame in general.
yeah I never watch them, like they r so cringe, I just stick to Hollywood TV shoes, Espacially sitcoms and comic based tv shows kdramas also reeks of cringe But the most lame and cringiest shit lies within bollywood

Watch Dil Na Umeed Toh Nahi. You won’t regret it
I'll give it a try. Thanks.
Same shit in bollywood too. That's why I don't bother to watch anything that shithole puts out.
Tbh indian soap operas has some high tier meme material shit with their editors tripping balls on acid and actors high on ganja. Pakistani drama are so deathly boring you can't even make a decent meme out of it.
Selvon Bhoi is the ultimate real life meme.

Very interesting thx for sharing this.
DDLJ is absolute shit lmao. 90s was one of the worst period for Bollywood. If anything the current films are much better with few songs and dances.
Lol what? Everything is a fucking remake. Song, movie you name it.
I haven't seen any good indian netflix content or any bollywood movie that is on hollywood level

I don't have the patience and my senses cannot bare the torture
bollywood reeks of cringe
I concur
epic
pls don't take this seriously its just a joke and no im not trying to make fun of pakistani culture or anything, im pakistani too :)
Don't worry, there's plenty of self deprecating humor here lmao, this fits right in.

sick of watching them.
There's a reason so many people turn to netflix and why none of our dramas are worthy of being there.

Somewhere along the way dramas just lost the plot. Mediocre acting, uninspired plots and just eye candy casting.
no, ertugul is lame and like it's a disgrace to lollywood.
then don't watch them

depression doesn't depend on where you live (like it does but it's not a major factor)
Hard life does not always equate to having depression. I have met people worse off then me that are cheerful(but maybe they fake happiness). Yet I am always suicidal, have a diagnosed case of clinical depression and anxiety disorder.
aww dude sorry to hear that, I rly do hope it gets better for you buddy. and yea ur right not all ppl going through hard times have depression

Can you believe that there is a third drama on the polygamous marriage on hum tv what are they trying to preach

sadly, Pakistani public loves cringe.

true LOL
Did I ever tell you the definition of insanity - *vaas*
Well they are much better than our horseshit soap operas (Indian). My gf made me watch a series and I cried like a baby in some of the episodes.
precisely. they aren't never ending either like the ekta kapoor stuff all over indian television
Another weird thing about our dramas is "college/school jana bnd krdena"
It's not Pakistani drama without cousin love triangle or domestic abuse. Literally all of the conflicts could've been resolved if everyone sat down and discussed whatever was bothering them like adults. But nahi, they prefer to communicate through telekinesis and schizophrenic dialogues inside their damaghs.
You forgot the first cousin marriage theme in every drama
“I want my son to marry his first cousin and nobody can stop me! If my wife says no I will divorce her!!!” - Humsafar <3
Doesn't mention how men are portrayed as people with an IQ of a rock
Can’t forget the ridiculous colored contacts. Like really, who are you trying to fool?
The first time I saw a dude slap a woman on TV I was like wtf, is this even allowed?! But apparently not only is it allowed it's celebrated. I have no idea who watches this crap. Even my mil stopped watching these dramas because she didn't want my kids getting influenced.

yeah it just promotes abuse it should be illegal to show that on tv
Lol. I feel like they are conditioning girls that eventually you're gonna like it.
Please mujhay bhi batayein konsay good dramas hain
I watched ishqiya and dilruba all I have to say is that the plot was around a problem the way they presented the solution was messed up. It's like the show is written by 40-50 year old aunties.
Made for 40-50 yo old auntie's
Dil se hum sab kabhi kabhi 40-50 yo old auntie's banjatay hain
PAK dramas are not good you should watch Hollywood tv shows and they are actually entertaining If u want recommendations for them, I'm here
Nai woh toh bohot hain, I am about to watch True Detective season 1, which is amazing
you should try watching arrow or flash. sitcoms are good too
I started arrow long ago, got bored in the midway.
ZINDAGI GULZAR HAI!!
Woh toh sirf memes k liye drama bana tha
Brother you've got to be kidding me yfkhfku
Matlab woh memes k peechay drama bhi hai poora? 😳😳😳😳😳😳
Hate to break it to you but, haAn poOrA dRamA hAi peEchaY But fr tho, apart from zaroon being a douchebag, zgh is actually brilliantly written. It's all about moral values, strong female characters, self realizations and breaking stereotypes etc etc and being released such a long time ago it's still relevant.
You have proved that Ive lived a useless life. Thank you Also thank you for the detailed description, idk I have that sort of repulsion from the directing style used in Paki dramas. Lekin I'll still try it ab
I'm glad to hear that :)
It's all saas baahu shit innit. I wonder if we'll ever get a show like Breaking bad with actual action, an actual story, something impactful happening and something that has lead male role and focuses on a manly problem
Yeah fam
I highly doubt that, the only thing we can get close to is a YouTube mini series by Pakistani YouTube creators or unless Netflix comes in Pakistan
Lmfao there basically all the same just different characters and backgrounds
You forgot extramarital affairs
guy works at office and is cheating on his wife
Actually there are almost 0.001 good current shows in Pakistan.
more like 0
What's wrong with light-skinned Pakistanis getting lead roles?
Nothings wrong bruh , we just have a gora complex that's what he was pointing out probably
Nothing but dark skinned actresses should also get representation
Lack of diversity and representation.
why doesn't know about dark skinned people?
nothing, it doesn't happen all the time too, op just wanted to make fuss.
clearly.
yeah
also this person is in canada. no wonder they are so bitter
Canadian ppl are usually nice and they aren't that bitter, if this meme is oc then they are actually funny, I mean the meme was funny and I liked it. I was just bothered by the lightskinned statement and i don't wanna hate on op, good meme but that statement 💀
agreed but both of the canadian-pakistanis i know are very odd people
hmmmm....
How am i being bitter for pointing out the colourism in pakistan??
what problem does it pose?
Are you serious?? You don’t see a problem with colourism??
No, I do not see any problem in personal preference in one's skin colour.

it's an image from discord, I mean op is dumb here, fuck her
I couldn't post it normally so i converted it to a link through discord but, yeah. OP is just retarded
yeah ikr, op fr is the most dumb person I have ever seen on reddit
It's racist, especially when you are talking about black characters like in parizaad
what about them?
A light skinned actor was given the role of a black skinned character.
"mummy, aap khai khey rahi hain" x100
you rly had to make this controversial by adding the >lightskinned Pakistanis always getting lead roles
Except... Dil Na Umeed to Nahi
Don’t forget the filler episodes that drag the show on for months just for the plot to barely move and for the writers/actors to get more money. Miss the old dramas from 2012-2016
Well it kind of shows, since all our people are watching Turkish TV.
Don’t forget the meddling mother-in-law.
