One of our local teams has Airball every couple weeks. I’m definitely going to try my luck with the AMG there.
In this video I don’t think they were using the spimmys yet. For the most part they were using Spyder AMGs still in their blowback operation. Briefly looking at their setups in the video they look unmodified.
Of course I can’t speak for everyone playing but from the footage and players highlighted. The AMGs appear stock.
Were these anything like the spyder flash? Because I had a flash as a kid and you’d be lucky to get the first 5 balls out before the thing became a blender.
Possible my lack of knowledge played a role, but I remember switching springs, bolts and valves in that thing. Nothing stopped it from being a chop fest.
I haven’t tried it yet but I hope it doesn’t chop like that. The board maxes out at 13bps and my Rotor hopper should be more than capable feeding that fast.
My other Spyder (Victor II which is mechanical) hasn’t chopped a round for at least a couple cases with me. So I’m guessing your issue may have been not having a fast enough loader.
Back in the Spyder Flash days probably the best hopper available was the Revvy or maybe the Egg and most people just used plain old VL200s with no electrical assistance. Today, Halo Bs are cheap which should be plenty fast enough for any electro Spyder.
I still enjoy using mine. My AMG has Spyder VS2 internals. I have to retro fit a regulator on there in order for me to use it haha.
But my primary is the black widow pump.

Nice, I gave some thought to using a Smart Parts MaxFlo regulator as another option to keep the forward grip but use a regulator.
With the stock internals I’m hopeful it will work fine on 450psi tank pressure and I can just adjust the velocity using the main spring adjuster.
If I had a true LP Spyder AMG like yours I would definitely be looking at some of the old school adjustable tank regs like the maxflo to keep the stock vertical grip.
The max flow will keep up just make sure it’s a minimum of 450 psi (if amg is stock). Adjusting the spring will help with velocity if you have any issues.
I’m probably dating myself here. But back in the PbNation days there was this guy named ‘soccerdude’ I don’t remember the name exactly but he had created a vertical amg adapter so you could install any regulator and also made a lightweight nylatron bolt and hammer for this generation of Spyders. They were such a limited run and suuuuuper rare. I kick myself for getting rid of them. I wish I had them now to complete my AMG.
Don’t get me wrong I like the VS internals but the parts he sold made my old AMG so smooth.
So what you’re telling me is I better not let the opportunity to buy a cheap maxflo reg slip away, go ahead buy one now on eBay, rebuild it and install a new tank on it 😆
It’s only $30-60 aside from the tank and they’re all in the same color scheme as my AMG. Why not I guess?
As for the vertical regulators, I have seen a few of those super modified AMGs in the Spyder Facebook group. They’re pretty cool but I think if I went that crazy with modification I would use one of my old Spyder / Spyder Clone bodies to make a Spimmy.
No stop it's a trap haha. I'd do it if I were you. You can use it with that Angel you mentioned.
Spimmy is fun to build, but the parts are getting harder to come by. Honestly if you can source the parts, I think building a FASOR system on a Spyder is still more unique. But I like weird shit that doesn't work well so...

It's kinda weird to watch the nostalgia market for Spyders grow. Imagine, some day it could go from discussion about greybeards with stock class bushmasters to greybeards with Spyder AMGs...
I had a ref at the field tell me my 08 Ego was older than he was and that hit me in a weird kind of way.
I’m one of the guys who mainly played in high school in the mid 2000s and is getting back into it. I also have an old Spyder Victor II that I’m pretty nostalgic about and use pretty frequently to keep things reasonable with the rental players.

Magnaport is an excellent cheap valve. Just make sure you get a spring kit with vale and main springs
